apriori_fw-la faith_n may_v evidence_n itself_o many_o christian_n go_v on_o in_o a_o doubt_a way_n mere_o because_o they_o think_v they_o must_v have_v evidence_n of_o their_o faith_n by_o some_o effect_n that_o follow_v their_o faith_n and_o till_o than_o they_o can_v have_v no_o comfort_n it_o be_v true_a where_o true_a faith_n be_v there_o will_v be_v fruit_n and_o effect_n of_o it_o but_o certain_o if_o you_o can_v learn_v this_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o find_v a_o evidence_n in_o faith_n itself_o you_o will_v soon_o come_v to_o comfort_v and_o it_o be_v a_o safe_a way_n a_o great_a deal_n as_o thus_o if_o you_o have_v doubt_n about_o your_o condition_n and_o fear_v your_o sin_n be_v not_o pardon_v and_o that_o you_o have_v no_o interest_n in_o christ_n the_o way_n to_o be_v free_v from_o these_o doubt_n and_o fear_n be_v by_o renew_v the_o act_n of_o faith_n itself_o by_o present_v to_o your_o soul_n the_o riches_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o the_o lord_n jesus_n and_o by_o view_v the_o glory_n of_o that_o see_v if_o it_o will_v not_o draw_v out_o your_o soul_n to_o believe_v and_o if_o upon_o this_o your_o heart_n stir_v not_o for_o the_o present_a set_v these_o thing_n before_o your_o soul_n again_o and_o turn_v not_o from_o renew_v the_o act_n of_o faith_n to_o poor_a upon_o your_o corruption_n and_o then_o say_v you_o can_v see_v no_o interest_n that_o you_o have_v in_o christ_n but_o look_v upward_o again_o and_o again_o and_o by_o the_o very_o view_v of_o they_o a_o virtue_n will_v come_v in_o to_o draw_v the_o heart_n to_o believe_v as_o by_o present_v the_o law_n there_o be_v a_o efficacy_n to_o terrify_v and_o affright_v so_o by_o present_v the_o glorious_a thing_n of_o the_o gospel_n there_o be_v a_o efficacy_n to_o draw_v out_o faith_n and_o then_o you_o be_v to_o renew_v the_o very_a primitive_a work_n of_o faith_n that_o be_v to_o close_v with_o christ_n and_o to_o cast_v yourselves_o upon_o the_o freeness_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o though_o you_o find_v in_o your_o heart_n such_o and_o such_o corruption_n and_o be_v ready_a to_o say_v shall_v such_o a_o one_o as_o i_o be_o so_o pollute_v and_o defile_v cast_v myself_o upon_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n yet_o lie_v hold_v upon_o christ_n and_o you_o have_v as_o much_o reason_n to_o do_v it_o from_o thence_o as_o from_o any_o thing_n and_o therefore_o this_o must_v be_v thy_o course_n to_o renew_v this_o primitive_a act_n of_o thy_o faith_n again_o and_o again_o i_o but_o yet_o my_o doubt_n and_o fear_n remain_v but_o if_o thou_o will_v have_v a_o evidence_n to_o it_o again_o &_o again_o a_o thousand_o time_n over_o and_o at_o last_o there_o will_v be_v a_o evidence_n of_o the_o act_n of_o faith_n itself_o but_o you_o will_v say_v this_o may_v be_v presumption_n to_o cast_v one_o self_n upon_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n i_o answer_v this_o be_v no_o presumption_n because_o the_o very_a act_n itself_o give_v thou_o a_o right_n to_o all_o that_o be_v in_o god_n and_o christ_n now_o presumption_n be_v when_o a_o man_n take_v that_o which_o he_o have_v no_o right_a to_o and_o if_o a_o man_n do_v that_o to_o which_o he_o have_v no_o right_a before_o yet_o if_o that_o he_o do_v give_v he_o a_o right_a it_o be_v no_o presumption_n but_o you_o will_v say_v this_o be_v a_o licentious_a way_n &_o give_v liberty_n o_o do_v not_o wrong_a faith_n when_o thou_o though_o thou_o can_v see_v no_o reason_n for_o it_o in_o the_o want_n of_o sight_n and_o sense_n can_v most_o difficult_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n and_o therefore_o no_o doctrine_n of_o liberty_n that_o soul_n that_o can_v go_v through_o all_o the_o difficulty_n of_o faith_n that_o can_v overcome_v the_o creature_n when_o we_o see_v a_o beauty_n and_o excellency_n in_o it_o and_o that_o because_o it_o be_v his_o similitude_n upon_o the_o creature_n and_o it_o be_v god_n excellency_n that_o be_v there_o and_o a_o spiritual_a heart_n have_v more_o freedom_n to_o let_v out_o itself_o to_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o creature_n than_o any_o in_o the_o world_n beside_o because_o he_o can_v meet_v with_o and_o taste_n god_n there_o but_o though_o god_n give_v we_o leave_v to_o do_v this_o yet_o evermore_o so_o that_o we_o be_v sure_a to_o reserve_v our_o heart_n to_o god_n to_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o infinite_a excellency_n that_o be_v in_o god_n above_o any_o creature_n and_o if_o we_o be_v not_o careful_a of_o this_o we_o shall_v soon_o fall_v off_o from_o glorify_v god_n as_o god_n and_o our_o heart_n will_v stick_v in_o the_o creature_n and_o this_o have_v be_v the_o ground_n of_o all_o the_o outward_a idolatry_n and_o spiritual_a idolatry_n in_o the_o world_n of_o outward_a idolatry_n which_o do_v arise_v thus_o man_n at_o first_o see_v some_o excellency_n and_o worth_n in_o the_o creature_n as_o the_o sun_n and_o moon_n and_o star_n they_o do_v acknowledge_v god_n above_o they_o and_o that_o these_o be_v but_o creature_n and_o that_o there_o be_v more_o excellency_n in_o god_n then_o in_o any_o of_o these_o but_o at_o last_o come_v to_o look_v upon_o the_o creature_n too_o much_o and_o be_v take_v with_o the_o excellency_n they_o see_v there_o their_o heart_n stick_v in_o the_o creature_n and_o they_o lose_v the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o infinite_a
excellency_n of_o god_n above_o the_o creature_n and_o so_o fall_v from_o god_n and_o worship_v they_o that_o be_v no_o god_n and_o so_o for_o spiritual_a idolatry_n those_o that_o commit_v idolatry_n with_o riches_n or_o any_o creature_n come_v to_o they_o at_o first_o and_o say_v to_o they_o how_o do_v you_o apprehend_v the_o comfort_n of_o the_o creature_n be_v there_o not_o infinite_o more_o in_o god_n then_o there_o be_v in_o the_o creature_n yes_o they_o will_v say_v i_o but_o by_o let_v our_o heart_n out_o upon_o the_o creature_n and_o by_o pore_v upon_o the_o beauty_n of_o the_o creature_n we_o begin_v at_o length_n to_o lose_v the_o power_n of_o this_o apprehension_n that_o be_v at_o first_o upon_o our_o heart_n and_o so_o commit_v spiritual_a idolatry_n with_o the_o creature_n and_o therefore_o it_o must_v be_v our_o care_n to_o keep_v entire_a and_o fresh_a our_o apprehension_n and_o sense_n of_o that_o infinite_a distance_n that_o there_o be_v between_o god_n and_o all_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o creature_n and_o so_o long_o as_o thou_o do_v keep_v thy_o apprehension_n fresh_a and_o strong_a here_o there_o be_v no_o danger_n and_o thou_o sin_v not_o in_o let_v thyself_o out_o to_o the_o creature_n if_o it_o have_v not_o abate_v thy_o apprehension_n of_o the_o infinite_a disporportion_n that_o there_o be_v between_o god_n and_o all_o creature_n therefore_o now_o see_v there_o be_v a_o infinite_a stupendous_a height_n of_o excellency_n in_o god_n above_o all_o creature_n there_o shall_v be_v the_o like_a thought_n in_o our_o heart_n towards_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n thus_o as_o there_o be_v a_o infinite_a distance_n between_o the_o excellency_n of_o god_n and_o the_o excellency_n of_o all_o creature_n so_o there_o aught_o to_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o infiniteness_n in_o the_o distance_n and_o disproportion_n between_o that_o esteem_n and_o delight_n and_o dependence_n we_o have_v in_o and_o upon_o the_o creature_n and_o that_o we_o have_v in_o and_o upon_o god_n therefore_o you_o shall_v not_o satisfy_v yourselves_o in_o this_o that_o you_o acknowledge_v god_n above_o the_o creature_n for_o all_o will_v do_v so_o but_o you_o be_v to_o find_v in_o your_o soul_n such_o a_o disproportion_n between_o your_o esteem_n and_o joy_n and_o desire_v after_o the_o creature_n and_o that_o you_o have_v after_o god_n as_o be_v man_n have_v their_o anger_n stir_v a_o little_a o_o how_o much_o filth_n do_v they_o present_o discover_v how_o many_o have_v we_o that_o all_o the_o while_o they_o be_v please_v be_v exceed_v meek_a and_o love_a but_o let_v any_o thing_n stir_v their_o passion_n and_o o_o what_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o filth_n appear_v like_o a_o pond_n that_o be_v full_a of_o mud_n at_o the_o bottom_n and_o clear_a at_o top_n but_o stir_v it_o a_o little_a and_o then_o it_o be_v nothing_o but_o filth_n a_o father_n or_o a_o mother_n can_v tell_v how_o to_o be_v displease_v with_o a_o child_n or_o correct_v it_o but_o abundance_n of_o corruption_n come_v with_o that_o anger_n and_o so_o a_o governor_n a_o servant_n who_o can_v execute_v justice_n upon_o other_o but_o there_o will_v be_v much_o of_o self_n self-end_n and_o self-interest_n but_o now_o here_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n that_o when_o he_o manife_v his_o wrath_n though_o it_o be_v sore_a wrath_n yet_o he_o be_v glorious_a in_o holiness_n in_o great_a wrath_n he_o be_v infinite_o powerful_a in_o his_o wrath_n and_o in_o the_o execution_n of_o his_o judgement_n and_o yet_o infinite_a in_o holiness_n too_o therefore_o the_o vial_n of_o god_n wrath_n be_v say_v to_o be_v of_o gold_n which_o be_v the_o pure_a mettle_n so_o be_v god_n in_o the_o execute_n of_o his_o judgement_n o_o let_v we_o labour_n to_o imitate_v glass_n the_o glory_n of_o the_o lord_n etc._n etc._n we_o behold_v but_o god_n back_n part_n in_o his_o work_n as_o god_n say_v to_o moses_n we_o behold_v but_o the_o footstep_n of_o god_n in_o his_o work_n but_o when_o we_o behold_v he_o in_o christ_n we_o behold_v he_o with_o open_a face_n now_o look_v what_o difference_n there_o be_v in_o know_v a_o man_n when_o we_o only_o see_v the_o print_n of_o his_o foot_n upon_o sand_n and_o when_o we_o look_v he_o in_o the_o face_n so_o much_o difference_n there_o be_v between_o the_o know_v of_o god_n and_o his_o glory_n as_o it_o shine_v in_o the_o work_n of_o creation_n and_o as_o it_o shine_v in_o the_o face_n of_o christ_n that_o god_n therefore_o may_v manifest_v his_o glory_n he_o will_v not_o pardon_v sin_n so_o free_o as_o to_o say_v you_o have_v sin_v but_o yet_o i_o will_v pity_v you_o and_o pardon_v you_o and_o there_o be_v a_o end_n no_o though_o he_o will_v pardon_v sin_n yet_o he_o will_v do_v it_o this_o way_n a_o three_o reason_n why_o god_n will_v bring_v thing_n about_o this_o way_n be_v this_o because_o god_n see_v there_o can_v be_v no_o such_o way_n to_o draw_v poor_a sinner_n to_o himself_o as_o this_o when_o god_n shall_v reveal_v to_o a_o sinner_n that_o he_o be_v not_o only_o a_o merciful_a god_n but_o that_o he_o have_v provide_v such_o a_o strange_a way_n to_o convey_v his_o mercy_n this_o have_v a_o mighty_a efficacy_n to_o draw_v the_o soul_n to_o god_n for_o the_o poor_a soul_n apprehend_v its_o own_o guiltiness_n and_o god_n hatred_n of_o sin_n and_o understand_v withal_o that_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n be_v set_v upon_o such_o a_o way_n of_o mercy_n be_v by_o this_o as_o by_o a_o mighty_a argument_n prevail_v with_o to_o draw_v near_o to_o god_n in_o a_o way_n of_o dependence_n upon_o such_o a_o strange_a way_n of_o conveyance_n as_o this_o be_v and_o when_o god_n have_v make_v it_o appear_v by_o reveal_v to_o i_o the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n how_o his_o heart_n be_v set_v upon_o this_o way_n of_o show_v mercy_n to_o sinner_n
i_o conclude_v now_o that_o the_o lord_n be_v willing_a to_o be_v reconcile_v to_o i_o and_o why_o then_o shall_v i_o be_v unbelieving_a any_o more_o why_o shall_v i_o have_v hard_a thought_n of_o god_n any_o more_o why_o shall_v i_o remain_v in_o my_o doubt_a condition_n any_o long_o thou_o can_v not_o be_v more_o desirous_a of_o the_o salvation_n of_o thy_o soul_n than_o god_n be_v of_o magnify_v his_o grace_n and_o mercy_n and_o god_n have_v do_v more_o for_o thou_o then_o thou_o can_v possible_o do_v for_o the_o salvation_n of_o thy_o soul_n beside_o it_o be_v a_o mighty_a draw_v argument_n for_o by_o this_o mean_v the_o infinite_a distance_n that_o conicience_n apprehend_v to_o be_v between_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n be_v take_v away_o for_o when_o the_o soul_n see_v it_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o infinite_a deity_n that_o be_v so_o far_o above_o it_o it_o stand_v shake_v and_o tremble_v and_o dare_v not_o draw_v nigh_o to_o god_n what_o have_v i_o to_o do_v say_v the_o soul_n with_o such_o a_o god_n as_o this_o be_v who_o be_v so_o infinite_o above_o i_o but_o now_o when_o thou_o know_v that_o christ_n be_v between_o god_n and_o thou_o than_o this_o distance_n need_v not_o scare_v thou_o yea_o now_o all_o thy_o guiltiness_n and_o all_o the_o filthiness_n and_o pollution_n of_o thy_o soul_n and_o all_o that_o the_o law_n have_v to_o say_v against_o thou_o will_v have_v a_o power_n upon_o thy_o heart_n to_o draw_v thou_o unto_o god_n in_o this_o way_n of_o reconciliation_n and_o that_o be_v the_o way_n of_o true_a comfort_n the_o gospel_n itself_o though_o there_o be_v no_o preparation_n before_o yet_o have_v a_o efficacy_n to_o draw_v the_o heart_n to_o christ_n for_o christ_n be_v all_o in_o all_o in_o that_o and_o do_v not_o say_v i_o be_o a_o poor_a mean_a creature_n i_o can_v do_v nothing_o i_o can_v remember_v a_o sermon_n i_o can_v pray_v or_o perform_v any_o good_a duty_n as_o i_o ought_v why_o remember_v soul_n christ_n be_v all_o in_o all_o true_a if_o any_o thing_n be_v require_v of_o thou_o in_o the_o business_n of_o salvation_n it_o be_v somewhat_o but_o know_v that_o god_n have_v lay_v help_n upon_o one_o who_o be_v mighty_a therefore_o it_o be_v not_o thy_o weakness_n nor_o the_o distance_n between_o god_n and_o thou_o that_o can_v hinder_v if_o thou_o right_o apprehend_v god_n in_o christ_n reconcile_n the_o world_n unto_o himself_o another_o reason_n may_v have_v be_v this_o god_n do_v it_o to_o endear_v his_o mercy_n to_o his_o saint_n for_o ever_o for_o indeed_o nothing_o indeare_v god_n mercy_n to_o they_o so_o much_o as_o this_o that_o they_o see_v it_o come_v to_o they_o in_o such_o a_o way_n of_o conveyance_n and_o that_o which_o will_v endear_v mercy_n to_o the_o saint_n in_o heaven_n to_o all_o eternity_n and_o for_o which_o they_o shall_v be_v full_a of_o the_o praise_n of_o god_n shall_v not_o be_v so_o much_o for_o the_o good_a thing_n they_o enjoy_v as_o for_o that_o strange_a and_o wonderful_a way_n by_o which_o they_o come_v to_o enjoy_v they_o this_o i_o say_v be_v that_o which_o shall_v take_v up_o the_o heart_n and_o be_v a_o great_a part_n of_o the_o work_n of_o the_o glorify_a saint_n in_o heaven_n to_o all_o eternity_n even_o their_o admire_a adore_a and_o praise_v god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o then_o god_n delight_v to_o honour_v his_o son_n and_o that_o he_o may_v set_v he_o up_o he_o make_v he_o to_o be_v the_o mean_n of_o conveyance_n of_o all_o good_a to_o those_o he_o intend_v it_o to_o as_o if_o a_o king_n be_v to_o honour_v his_o son_n what_o way_n can_v he_o take_v to_o do_v it_o more_o effectual_o than_o this_o that_o all_o the_o favour_n he_o mean_v to_o show_v to_o any_o shall_v be_v only_o through_o his_o son_n so_o when_o god_n the_o father_n will_v honour_v his_o son_n he_o appoint_v from_o all_o eternity_n that_o all_o the_o grace_n and_o mercy_n that_o any_o shall_v have_v from_o he_o shall_v be_v only_o through_o his_o son_n therefore_o as_o christ_n say_v all_o judgement_n be_v commit_v to_o the_o son_n that_o all_o man_n may_v honour_v the_o son_n as_o they_o honour_v the_o father_n so_o i_o may_v say_v of_o the_o work_n and_o dispensation_n of_o god_n grace_n that_o all_o be_v convey_v to_o christ_n and_o by_o he_o communicate_v to_o those_o that_o have_v interest_n in_o he_o that_o the_o son_n may_v be_v a_o while_n and_o admire_v at_o the_o depth_n of_o the_o council_n of_o god_n and_o the_o infinite_a glory_n of_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o grace_n to_o mankind_n that_o god_n shall_v ever_o have_v such_o thought_n towards_o such_o poor_a worm_n as_o we_o be_v that_o he_o shall_v not_o rather_o have_v let_v such_o despicable_a creature_n eternal_o perish_v then_o go_v in_o such_o a_o strange_a way_n to_o show_v mercy_n to_o they_o true_o brethren_n god_n have_v do_v more_o in_o bring_v a_o poor_a soul_n to_o himself_o then_o in_o create_v heaven_n and_o earth_n the_o work_n of_o create_a heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v but_o a_o low_a piece_n of_o work_n in_o comparison_n of_o this_o wonderful_a way_n of_o god_n convey_v his_o grace_n and_o mercy_n to_o the_o child_n of_o man_n through_o his_o son_n this_o be_v the_o masterpiece_n of_o the_o work_n of_o god_n which_o he_o have_v already_o do_v or_o will_v ever_o do_v to_o all_o eternity_n and_o god_n therefore_o be_v to_o be_v admire_v and_o adore_v in_o this_o we_o be_v to_o glorify_v god_n in_o every_o creature_n but_o how_o be_v god_n to_o be_v glorify_v then_o in_o his_o son_n wherein_o so_o much_o of_o his_o glory_n do_v appear_v if_o it_o be_v a_o sin_n for_o we_o not_o to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n when_o we_o behold_v his_o glory_n in_o his_o mean_a work_n o_o what_o a_o sin_n be_v it_o not_o to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o behold_v the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o his_o glory_n shine_v in_o the_o face_n of_o jesus_n christ_n god_n expect_v brethren_n that_o those_o who_o live_v under_o the_o gospel_n shall_v spend_v their_o day_n and_o thought_n and_o talk_v about_o that_o glory_n which_o he_o have_v manifest_v in_o his_o son_n o_o you_o that_o have_v such_o chaffy_a drossy_a spirit_n that_o can_v spend_v your_o precious_a thought_n upon_o such_o poor_a thing_n as_o you_o do_v know_v that_o here_o be_v a_o object_n to_o take_v up_o your_o thought_n and_o your_o sin_n be_v abundant_o the_o great_a in_o this_o that_o you_o spend_v your_o thought_n about_o such_o vanity_n when_o god_n set_v before_o you_o so_o glorious_a a_o object_n to_o raise_v up_o your_o heart_n unto_o himself_o and_o you_o that_o spend_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o your_o life_n in_o vanity_n know_v that_o this_o day_n you_o have_v hear_v of_o a_o truth_n that_o above_o all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n shall_v take_v up_o your_o time_n and_o thought_n in_o the_o contemplation_n of_o it_o and_o you_o that_o have_v more_o time_n and_o great_a estate_n than_o other_o and_o be_v not_o put_v upon_o it_o to_o get_v your_o bread_n as_o other_o be_v and_o so_o have_v great_a opportunity_n for_o the_o worship_n and_o service_n of_o god_n and_o for_o search_v into_o his_o truth_n yet_o how_o do_v you_o spend_v your_o time_n in_o vanity_n and_o light_a thing_n as_o if_o there_o be_v no_o great_a matter_n to_o take_v up_o your_o heart_n it_o be_v a_o sign_n of_o a_o vain_a and_o frothy_a spirit_n that_o when_o god_n propound_v such_o glorious_a thing_n to_o you_o that_o yet_o
it_o shall_v be_v the_o content_a of_o your_o soul_n to_o baffle_v out_o your_o time_n in_o vanity_n and_o thing_n that_o will_v not_o profit_v well_o if_o you_o will_v have_v a_o evidence_n to_o your_o soul_n that_o christ_n be_v all_o in_o all_o to_o you_o and_o shall_v be_v to_o all_o eternity_n take_v it_o in_o this_o if_o ever_o god_n have_v open_v thy_o eye_n to_o see_v his_o glory_n in_o the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o that_o thy_o heart_n be_v take_v with_o it_o and_o overcome_v by_o it_o it_o be_v a_o argument_n that_o thou_o be_v indeed_o the_o soul_n which_o god_n thing_n hope_v for_o and_o give_v be_v to_o thing_n so_o high_a and_o glorious_a as_o the_o thing_n of_o god_n be_v first_o then_o certain_o faith_n itself_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o very_a substantial_a thing_n faith_n be_v not_o a_o conceit_n and_o notion_n for_o it_o give_v reality_n and_o substantial_a be_v to_o those_o thing_n the_o world_n count_v conceit_n faith_n be_v the_o most_o substantial_a glorious_a thing_n in_o the_o world_n it_o be_v that_o in_o the_o work_n of_o which_o the_o power_n of_o god_n appear_v more_o than_o in_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n therefore_o in_o ephes_n 1._o 19_o 20._o there_o be_v some_o six_o or_o seven_o gradation_n of_o the_o wonderful_a power_n of_o god_n that_o appear_v in_o the_o work_n of_o faith_n now_o that_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o exceed_o substantial_a thing_n that_o have_v such_o a_o mighty_a power_n of_o god_n in_o work_v of_o it_o god_n do_v not_o use_v to_o put_v forth_o extraordinary_a power_n for_o the_o do_v of_o ordinary_a thing_n now_o when_o he_o speak_v of_o faith_n he_o set_v out_o his_o power_n in_o a_o glorious_a manner_n and_o in_o a_o extraordinary_a way_n and_o thereby_o tell_v we_o that_o faith_n have_v some_o great_a matter_n in_o it_o and_o indeed_o faith_n have_v much_o in_o it_o though_o it_o be_v a_o grace_n that_o empty_v we_o of_o ourselves_o yet_o it_o be_v that_o whereby_o the_o believer_n be_v enable_v to_o do_v one_o of_o the_o most_o glorious_a work_n that_o ever_o creature_n be_v enable_v to_o do_v as_o now_o for_o a_o poor_a soul_n to_o see_v its_o self_n in_o yet_o to_o lay_v hold_n upon_o a_o mediator_n between_o god_n and_o man_n and_o to_o trust_v in_o a_o righteousness_n beyond_o itself_o and_o to_o tender_v it_o up_o to_o god_n the_o father_n for_o a_o full_a atonement_n and_o satisfaction_n and_o to_o venture_v its_o self_n and_o eternal_a estate_n upon_o it_o and_o be_v unholy_a and_o filthy_a in_o itself_o yet_o to_o unite_v itself_o to_o god_n in_o as_o near_o a_o union_n for_o the_o kind_n of_o it_o as_o possible_o a_o creature_n can_v have_v with_o the_o creator_n next_o the_o hypostatical_a union_n of_o the_o humane_a nature_n of_o christ_n with_o the_o divine_a i_o say_v for_o faith_n to_o be_v able_a to_o do_v this_o it_o be_v a_o high_a and_o most_o glorious_a work_n and_o there_o be_v a_o abundance_n of_o the_o power_n of_o god_n appear_v in_o it_o by_o this_o how_o may_v we_o discover_v the_o vanity_n of_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o great_a number_n of_o people_n in_o the_o world_n who_o have_v nothing_o but_o mere_a emptiness_n in_o they_o their_o very_a faith_n be_v only_o a_o notion_n and_o no_o marvel_n then_o if_o all_o thing_n they_o believe_v be_v but_o notion_n they_o can_v do_v nothing_o with_o their_o faith_n you_o say_v you_o hope_v and_o believe_v and_o trust_v in_o god_n mercy_n but_o what_o can_v you_o do_v with_o your_o faith_n what_o real_a substantial_a work_n of_o faith_n be_v upon_o your_o heart_n when_o faith_n come_v there_o come_v the_o mighty_a power_n of_o god_n and_o his_o wonderful_a glory_n into_o the_o soul_n that_o create_v as_o it_o be_v and_o give_v substantial_a be_v to_o the_o most_o high_a and_o glorious_a object_n in_o the_o world_n therefore_o know_v that_o faith_n be_v not_o a_o dead_a slight_a empty_a thing_n in_o the_o soul_n but_o it_o have_v a_o mighty_a operation_n upon_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n and_o woman_n and_o certain_o that_o faith_n that_o must_v save_v a_o soul_n must_v have_v high_a and_o glorious_a operation_n in_o the_o soul_n again_o if_o faith_n give_v a_o substantial_a be_v to_o thing_n hope_v for_o than_o we_o must_v learn_v to_o strengthen_v and_o exercise_v our_o faith_n in_o the_o thing_n we_o hope_v for_o which_o of_o we_o he_o be_v in_o the_o dark_a in_o many_o thing_n as_o there_o be_v many_o truth_n now_o dispute_v about_o church_n and_o the_o like_a yet_o to_o know_v he_o have_v that_o in_o he_o that_o will_v make_v the_o thing_n of_o eternal_a life_n evident_a to_o he_o it_o be_v a_o wonderful_a blessing_n of_o god_n to_o have_v a_o principle_n that_o give_v subsistence_n and_o evidence_n to_o such_o thing_n as_o these_o be_v how_o exceed_o will_v many_o poor_a soul_n rejoice_v if_o they_o may_v have_v a_o evidence_n but_o of_o some_o one_o truth_n of_o religion_n as_o the_o truth_n of_o a_o deity_n which_o reason_n give_v light_a in_o they_o be_v so_o pester_v with_o atheism_n that_o they_o will_v give_v a_o thousand_o world_n to_o be_v rid_v of_o it_o now_o if_o this_o be_v so_o great_a a_o mercy_n to_o have_v that_o which_o do_v evidence_n only_o one_o principle_n of_o religion_n what_o a_o glorious_a mercy_n than_o be_v it_o to_o have_v faith_n to_o evidence_n all_o the_o glorious_a thing_n of_o god_n and_o to_o make_v they_o clear_a and_o plain_a to_o you_o you_o can_v remember_v there_o be_v a_o time_n when_o you_o think_v they_o fancy_n and_o conceit_n but_o now_o you_o see_v they_o as_o clear_a as_o the_o light_n of_o the_o sun_n and_o you_o will_v not_o now_o for_o a_o thousand_o world_n but_o you_o see_v they_o as_o you_o do_v hereafter_o brethren_n when_o we_o shall_v see_v they_o not_o by_o faith_n but_o by_o sense_n o_o how_o shall_v we_o bless_v god_n then_o that_o we_o have_v before_o a_o evidence_n of_o these_o thing_n make_v to_o our_o soul_n what_o will_v have_v become_v of_o we_o if_o we_o have_v not_o have_v a_o evidence_n to_o clear_v those_o thing_n to_o we_o that_o lead_v to_o this_o glory_n to_o evidence_n the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n for_o eternal_a life_n i_o see_v these_o thing_n subsist_v and_o evident_a before_o and_o now_o god_n reveal_v they_o full_o to_o i_o whereas_o on_o the_o other_o side_n those_o that_o want_v a_o principle_n of_o faith_n to_o make_v they_o substantial_a and_o evident_a to_o they_o when_o they_o shall_v come_v to_o be_v substantial_a and_o evident_a to_o their_o sense_n o_o what_o a_o horrid_a terror_n will_v it_o be_v unto_o they_o than_o you_o will_v say_v o_o lord_n that_o i_o have_v see_v these_o thing_n before_o my_o heart_n then_o will_v never_o have_v be_v take_v so_o with_o now_o i_o see_v they_o be_v real_a and_o substantial_a o_o miserable_a man_n that_o now_o i_o be_o o_o the_o work_n of_o faith_n that_o can_v make_v those_o that_o be_v of_o weak_a part_n to_o see_v god_n in_o these_o this_o be_v a_o great_a blessing_n what_o man_n will_v be_v willing_a to_o loose_v the_o sight_n of_o his_o eye_n to_o gain_v a_o world_n because_o it_o discover_v so_o much_o of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n now_o if_o the_o eye_n that_o receive_v only_o these_o natural_a thing_n be_v so_o preecious_a o_o than_o what_o be_v it_o to_o have_v a_o principle_n within_o we_o a_o eye_n of_o faith_n clear_o to_o evidence_n the_o great_a thing_n and_o glorious_a counsel_n of_o god_n unto_o we_o if_o a_o crystal_n that_o can_v receive_v colour_n into_o it_o from_o without_o be_v precious_a o_o what_o be_v the_o crystal_n of_o faith_n it_o may_v well_o be_v call_v precious_a faith_n for_o it_o receive_v into_o the_o soul_n the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o excellency_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o great_a thing_n of_o eternal_a life_n and_o these_o be_v bring_v into_o the_o soul_n by_o faith_n in_o the_o reality_n and_o power_n of_o they_o to_o raise_v the_o heart_n and_o eye_n the_o eye_n of_o sense_n be_v precious_a because_o we_o can_v see_v visible_a object_n by_o that_o but_o the_o eye_n of_o reason_n be_v more_o precious_a because_o that_o can_v make_v thing_n see_v which_o be_v not_o see_v by_o the_o eye_n of_o sense_n reason_n can_v discourse_v up_o to_o god_n himself_o and_o it_o be_v the_o wonderful_a excellency_n of_o a_o reasonable_a creature_n that_o god_n have_v give_v he_o that_o ability_n that_o he_o can_v discourse_v so_o from_o the_o effect_n to_o the_o cause_n and_o from_o one_o cause_n to_o another_o till_o at_o last_o he_o get_v up_o to_o further_o in_o the_o eleven_o place_n in_o all_o it_o do_v it_o strike_v at_o our_o life_n the_o law_n be_v satisfy_v with_o no_o affliction_n let_v it_o be_v transgress_v in_o the_o least_o degree_n all_o the_o affliction_n that_o can_v possible_o be_v in_o this_o world_n will_v not_o satisfy_v it_o such_o be_v the_o severity_n of_o it_o i_o say_v that_o it_o strike_v at_o life_n and_o at_o eternal_a life_n it_o follow_v to_o pursue_v we_o to_o our_o blood_n to_o temporal_a and_o eternal_a death_n and_o here_o i_o may_v open_v the_o condemn_a sentence_n of_o the_o law_n but_o that_o will_v require_v a_o subject_n by_o itself_o therefore_o i_o only_o name_n what_o be_v in_o this_o head_n that_o it_o strike_v at_o our_o life_n upon_o every_o transgression_n of_o it_o again_o twelfthly_a the_o severity_n of_o it_o be_v in_o this_o that_o upon_o any_o breach_n it_o do_v present_o bind_v over_o the_o soul_n though_o it_o do_v not_o execute_v it_o present_o by_o the_o strong_a bond_n that_o possible_o can_v be_v to_o everlasting_a death_n it_o suspend_v execution_n but_o the_o bond_n be_v immediate_o seal_v upon_o the_o breach_n of_o it_o so_o that_o all_o man_n upon_o every_o breach_n of_o it_o have_v chain_n clap_v upon_o their_o soul_n which_o be_v the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n whereby_o they_o stand_v bind_v to_o eternal_a death_n by_o such_o bond_n as_o all_o create_a power_n in_o heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v not_o able_a to_o loose_v thirteen_o in_o the_o next_o place_n such_o be_v the_o severity_n of_o the_o law_n that_o when_o it_o be_v once_o offend_v it_o will_v never_o be_v make_v amends_o again_o by_o any_o thing_n we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v suppose_v we_o have_v offend_v the_o law_n in_o some_o one_o thing_n and_o that_o but_o once_o if_o after_o this_o we_o shall_v endeavour_v what_o we_o can_v for_o our_o life_n and_o swelter_v our_o heart_n blood_n to_o obey_v the_o law_n and_o think_v to_o make_v up_o the_o breach_n we_o have_v make_v yet_o we_o can_v never_o make_v it_o amend_v again_o it_o be_v true_a some_o though_o they_o be_v offend_v yet_o by_o double_a diligence_n may_v be_v please_v again_o but_o we_o must_v never_o think_v to_o do_v so_o with_o god_n be_v under_o the_o law_n when_o we_o have_v once_o break_v it_o we_o can_v with_o all_o our_o care_n and_o diligence_n be_v able_a to_o make_v it_o amâ—â—â—s_v and_o that_o be_v a_o great_a part_n of_o the_o severity_n of_o the_o law_n ay_o but_o what_o have_v we_o to_o do_v but_o to_o mourn_v and_o cry_v and_o rend_v our_o heart_n because_o of_o this_o distress_a condition_n we_o be_v in_o fourteen_o nay_o the_o law_n accept_v of_o no_o repentance_n it_o will_v not_o discharge_v the_o guilt_n of_o any_o one_o sin_n for_o all_o the_o sorrow_n in_o the_o world_n and_o here_o lie_v a_o great_a mistake_n of_o people_n when_o they_o have_v offend_v they_o think_v they_o will_v be_v careful_a to_o make_v amends_o and_o they_o will_v mourn_v and_o repent_v etc._n etc._n it_o be_v true_a if_o you_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n this_o be_v something_o but_o if_o you_o be_v in_o your_o natural_a condition_n shall_v you_o weep_v your_o heart_n out_o and_o send_v stream_n of_o blood_n from_o your_o eye_n in_o mourn_v but_o for_o any_o one_o sin_n suppose_v that_o which_o thou_o count_v a_o little_a matter_n a_o sin_n in_o thought_n shall_v thou_o resolve_v to_o cry_v out_o and_o mourn_v for_o that_o one_o sin_n all_o thy_o life_n it_o will_v not_o be_v accept_v unless_o thou_o come_v under_o the_o bless_a liberty_n purchase_v by_o christ_n therefore_o know_v the_o difference_n of_o be_v under_o the_o law_n and_o under_o the_o gospel_n fifteenth_o yet_o further_o such_o be_v the_o rigour_n of_o the_o law_n that_o
