whole_a work_n for_o nothing_o be_v to_o be_v keep_v from_o the_o slaughter_n that_o be_v for_o destruction_n no_o mean_a in_o destroy_v sin_n though_o a_o right_a hand_n or_o eye_n they_o must_v away_o and_o give_v place_n to_o the_o divine_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o light_n which_o be_v bâ—fore_o as_o the_o spiritual_a virtue_n begâ—n_v in_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o willing_a be_v to_o little_a purpose_n troublesome_a and_o heavy_a as_o a_o work_n in_o the_o fire_n if_o not_o thereby_o destroy_v because_o of_o his_o not_o feel_v any_o grace_n or_o spiritual_a savour_n therein_o the_o way_n wile_n and_o device_n of_o the_o evil_a one_o to_o deceive_v and_o devour_v soul_n be_v such_o and_o so_o divers_a in_o these_o late_a day_n that_o the_o ignorant_a and_o unskilful_a soul_n may_v not_o easy_o escape_v because_o he_o take_v all_o advantage_n by_o the_o time_n temptation_n bodily_a wit_n and_o faculty_n of_o such_o dark_a soul_n to_o lead_v they_o into_o self-love_n and_o the_o sundry_a kind_n of_o lustful_a live_n in_o the_o vanity_n of_o their_o mind_n wantonness_n and_o pleasure_n upon_o the_o earth_n as_o fit_v themselves_o for_o a_o day_n of_o slaughter_n and_o so_o keep_v they_o while_o he_o may_v in_o presumption_n etc._n etc._n but_o if_o once_o he_o see_v any_o soul_n will_v entire_o give_v themselves_o to_o be_v spiritual_o employ_v than_o he_o strive_v by_o himself_o and_o his_o minister_n to_o set_v their_o sin_n in_o order_n before_o they_o and_o tell_v they_o they_o be_v great_a sinner_n and_o more_o in_o this_o change_n and_o turn_v then_o in_o any_o thing_n before_o say_v to_o they_o that_o be_v not_o the_o way_n but_o a_o denial_n of_o christ_n a_o fancy_n and_o frenzy_n of_o a_o fanatic_a spirit_n and_o for_o some_o wicked_a end_n and_o that_o it_o will_v bring_v they_o into_o contempt_n want_n and_o poverty_n wherein_o none_o will_v pity_v they_o that_o they_o must_v change_v their_o condition_n with_o their_o mind_n wife_n and_o child_n come_v to_o want_v that_o they_o will_v fall_v into_o bodily_a sickness_n and_o be_v lay_v in_o prison_n that_o they_o shall_v have_v learned_a man_n to_o advise_v they_o better_o the_o minister_n to_o admonish_v they_o and_o pray_v for_o they_o to_o take_v counsel_n at_o the_o priest_n lip_n which_o preserve_v knowledge_n and_o not_o run_v of_o their_o own_o head_n with_o a_o few_o giddy_a contemptible_a people_n that_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o scripture_n and_o original_a tongue_n and_o if_o they_o depart_v not_o from_o their_o new_a way_n great_a temptation_n will_v overtake_v they_o and_o with_o much_o more_o of_o this_o kind_n do_v this_o flatter_a devil_n seek_v to_o beguile_v such_o soul_n as_o hearken_v to_o he_o by_o the_o cunning_a craftiness_n of_o such_o as_o lie_v in_o wait_n to_o deceive_v and_o that_o entangle_v with_o entice_a word_n of_o man_n wisdom_n to_o beguile_v their_o soul_n with_o bodily_a savour_n sweetness_n of_o wit_n art_n and_o outward_a exercise_n and_o thereby_o if_o possible_a draw_v they_o aside_o from_o the_o simplicity_n and_o puff_v they_o up_o with_o conceit_n of_o themselves_o as_o if_o they_o have_v by_o such_o wisdom_n and_o the_o way_n thereof_o former_o find_v the_o feel_n of_o heavenly_a joy_n and_o so_o lead_v they_o back_o again_o and_o up_o into_o high_a notion_n and_o conceit_n of_o a_o proud_a mind_n until_o they_o become_v base_a and_o blockish_a and_o thereby_o fall_v full_a low_a at_o last_o with_o their_o cold_a dry_a and_o barren_a soul_n for_o the_o more_o they_o imagine_v to_o gain_v by_o such_o mean_n the_o great_a will_v be_v their_o loss_n and_o they_o the_o far_o off_o from_o what_o they_o so_o seem_v to_o seek_v and_o much_o more_o indispose_v to_o return_v into_o the_o right_a way_n of_o obtain_v it_o for_o thereby_o the_o mind_n will_v be_v oft_o and_o high_o lift_v up_o as_o if_o it_o be_v in_o a_o happy_a estate_n and_o condition_n more_o holy_a virtuous_a and_o better_a than_o other_o and_o to_o rejoice_v as_o if_o they_o have_v escape_v a_o very_a great_a temptation_n and_o to_o conceive_v angry_a stir_n in_o themselves_o when_o other_o seem_v not_o so_o to_o esteem_v of_o they_o and_o the_o flatter_a spirit_n will_v sudden_o praise_v and_o applaud_v such_o as_o for_o good_a deed_n and_o virtuous_a live_n and_o this_o last_o be_v the_o sore_a and_o great_a of_o all_o temptation_n and_o most_o dangerous_a because_o of_o the_o delight_n man_n will_v seem_v to_o feel_v about_o they_o by_o such_o sound_n to_o the_o ear_n and_o sweet_a savour_n of_o sense_n tickle_v they_o with_o delight_n therein_o as_o if_o all_o be_v well_o and_o they_o have_v much_o grace_n and_o be_v right_o travel_v with_o their_o mind_n from_o fleshly_a thing_n while_o they_o be_v only_o ravish_v with_o spiritual_a pride_n wherein_o the_o vain_a love_n and_o self-conceit_n pray_v weep_v speak_v and_o thank_v god_n with_o the_o pharisee_fw-mi while_o they_o know_v not_o god_n but_o their_o proud_a heart_n deceive_v they_o and_o lead_v they_o to_o show_v outward_a love_n and_o meekness_n in_o speech_n and_o gesture_n as_o if_o they_o be_v spiritual_o virtuous_a and_o that_o they_o dislike_v nothing_o but_o sin_n only_o because_o it_o be_v contrary_a to_o god_n and_o yet_o be_v even_o then_o at_o the_o gate_n of_o spiritual_a death_n so_o puff_v up_o with_o pride_n and_o pleasure_n therein_o as_o that_o they_o be_v even_o dead_a while_o they_o live_v or_o rather_o twice_o dead_a and_o pluck_v up_o the_o root_n become_v servant_n to_o man_n and_o time_n mistake_v one_o thing_n for_o another_o with_o their_o fleshly_a heart_n get_v aloft_o and_o puff_v up_o rest_v in_o the_o root_n and_o rottenness_n of_o sin_n black_a and_o thick_a darkness_n fill_v their_o soul_n which_o may_v be_v hide_v from_o some_o man_n yet_o christ_n jesus_n see_v it_o and_o abhor_v it_o and_o their_o service_n because_o of_o their_o hypocrisy_n and_o heresy_n so_o accompany_v with_o bodily_a and_o spiritual_a pride_n which_o be_v never_o learn_v of_o christ_n as_o their_o god_n for_o man_n make_v any_o thing_n his_o god_n that_o his_o heart_n be_v in_o love_n with_o that_o he_o take_v content_a in_o dare_v sin_n against_o god_n for_o or_o wrong_v any_o man_n by_o and_o so_o such_o man_n have_v their_o divers_a kind_n of_o idol-god_n one_o his_o belly_n another_o the_o applause_n of_o man_n a_o three_o his_o opinion_n and_o word_n hear_v or_o speak_v wherein_o such_o serve_v not_o the_o lord_n jesus_n but_o their_o own_o lustful_a mind_n and_o every_o other_o thing_n that_o a_o man_n choose_v by_o his_o own_o act_n to_o take_v pleasure_n in_o be_v his_o god_n and_o then_o when_o god_n stir_v up_o such_o soul_n to_o obedience_n and_o give_v they_o suitable_a ability_n these_o proud_a heart_n resist_v all_o and_o in_o stead_n of_o obedience_n become_v rebellious_a heady_a harsh_a and_o high-minded_a abuse_v the_o tender_a mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n god_n in_o the_o light_n of_o his_o spiritual_a leading_n to_o repentance_n and_o this_o condition_n be_v as_o aforesaid_a the_o more_o desperate_a because_o therein_o such_o conclude_v that_o all_o be_v well_o and_o sound_n and_o that_o they_o be_v right_a sure_a and_o righteous_a even_o above_o any_o ordinary_a pharisee_n and_o so_o arrogate_v to_o themselves_o and_o therefore_o hear_v and_o consider_v thou_o that_o think_v thou_o stand_v that_o suppose_v thou_o be_v raise_v from_o death_n to_o life_n have_v taste_v of_o the_o good_a word_n of_o god_n and_o bear_v it_o may_v be_v some_o affliction_n and_o take_v heed_n of_o this_o false_a liberty_n for_o than_o will_v satan_n try_v and_o winnow_v thou_o and_o be_v teach_v thou_o as_o selfishness_n where_o it_o feed_v on_o nothing_o but_o black_a smoke_n in_o thick_a darkness_n and_o spiritual_a blindness_n as_o a_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n bear_v about_o and_o heavy_o load_v the_o soul_n and_o conscience_n that_o it_o can_v comprehend_v the_o light_n but_o every_o tentation_n of_o the_o same_o nature_n with_o it_o prevail_v over_o it_o and_o lead_v it_o captive_a more_o and_o more_o into_o a_o servile_a slavery_n and_o lustful_a live_n in_o fleshly_a filth_n for_o sin_n be_v not_o any_o corporeal_a thing_n and_o therefore_o not_o corporeal_o to_o be_v destroy_v strive_v about_o or_o contend_v with_o neither_o have_v man_n any_o power_n of_o themselves_o to_o amend_v this_o in_o themselves_o more_o than_o in_o other_o and_o therefore_o can_v but_o bodily_a thing_n until_o the_o sore_a pain_n and_o miserable_a blindeness_n of_o that_o condition_n as_o paul_n when_o he_o cry_v out_o o_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o be_v find_v and_o feel_v and_o then_o will_v the_o lord_n jesus_n appear_v as_o the_o pain_n of_o this_o dark_a soul_n and_o conscience_n wherein_o be_v to_o be_v a_o free_a suffering_n with_o a_o patient_a wait_a and_o pleasure_n and_o devote_v themselves_o to_o pray_v read_v study_n learn_v and_o confer_v of_o heavenly_a matter_n sigh_v weep_v or_o do_v any_o other_o act_n outward_o or_o otherwise_o yet_o if_o he_o love_v himself_o mind_n or_o careful_o heed_n provide_v for_o the_o flesh_n or_o outward_a man_n or_o have_v any_o other_o earthly_a fear_n care_n or_o immoderate_a desire_n this_o will_v not_o do_v it_o but_o the_o great_a be_v the_o deceit_n by_o such_o forsaking_n and_o act_n in_o his_o become_v affect_v with_o himself_o as_o if_o better_a than_o other_o or_o in_o slight_v other_o by_o term_n ground_v in_o love_n but_o the_o fleshly_a part_n gain_v ground_n again_o in_o the_o earthly_a dark_a and_o dead_a nature_n and_o then_o be_v the_o law_n of_o sin_n serve_v for_o the_o time_n but_o yet_o if_o there_o be_v no_o wilful_a sin_n or_o like_v thereto_o it_o be_v not_o he_o but_o sin_n that_o stir_v in_o he_o which_o he_o consent_v not_o to_o and_o thus_o have_v many_o be_v trouble_v and_o overlay_v for_o a_o time_n with_o weight_n upon_o their_o weak_a part_n that_o they_o have_v not_o have_v for_o that_o time_n any_o clear_a sight_n or_o freedom_n in_o themselves_o but_o sit_v sad_o without_o any_o knowledge_n of_o their_o own_o condition_n or_o ability_n to_o move_v one_o step_v forward_o because_o sin_v get_v so_o great_a a_o hold_n or_o as_o a_o lodging_n in_o their_o bread_n etc._n etc._n and_o full_a many_o have_v so_o fall_v by_o his_o mean_n into_o this_o high_a spiritual_a pride_n and_o think_v that_o therein_o they_o have_v do_v god_n service_n and_o unless_o the_o soul_n be_v root_v and_o ground_v in_o love_n and_o so_o in_o meekness_n with_o a_o spiritual_a feel_n of_o jesus_n christ_n as_o god_n equal_a with_o the_o father_n it_o will_v be_v apt_a to_o yield_v to_o such_o transforming_n and_o to_o ask_v as_o the_o disciple_n sometime_o do_v who_o shall_v be_v great_a and_o so_o may_v soon_o depart_v from_o the_o simple_a and_o pure_a life_n and_o thou_o attend_v faithful_o thou_o will_v find_v and_o know_v that_o god_n forsake_v no_o man_n in_o such_o tentation_n unless_o it_o shall_v be_v to_o increase_v their_o spiritual_a strength_n if_o they_o suffer_v a_o while_n patient_o and_o not_o turn_v to_o folly_n that_o they_o may_v find_v jesus_n christ_n the_o sweet_a and_o ready_a way_n full_a of_o spiritual_a refreshment_n and_o comfort_n and_o themselves_o poor_a blind_a and_o naked_a without_o he_o and_o to_o have_v nothing_o bâ—t_o what_o he_o give_v and_o herein_o suffer_v much_o buffet_n of_o satan_n and_o his_o minister_n without_o hee_v or_o rather_o with_o despise_v such_o tentation_n set_v they_o at_o nought_o etc._n etc._n but_o if_o any_o shall_v strive_v with_o his_o thought_n and_o bodily_a wit_n to_o drive_v away_o tentation_n and_o put_v they_o out_o as_o by_o mastery_n thereby_o will_v the_o enemy_n get_v advantage_n and_o overcome_v and_o therefore_o as_o before_o so_o i_o say_v again_o ever_o withdraw_v thy_o thought_n from_o the_o tentation_n into_o the_o light_n of_o jesus_n christ_n where_o the_o strive_v and_o life_n of_o strength_n lie_v and_o wait_v on_o he_o for_o deliverance_n and_o victory_n and_o also_o beware_v thou_o never_o show_v such_o temptation_n to_o any_o worldly_a man_n though_o repute_v never_o so_o wise_a learned_a or_o religious_a that_o have_v not_o feel_v the_o like_a trial_n in_o themselves_o for_o they_o will_v certain_o bring_v thy_o soul_n into_o great_a danger_n by_o their_o worldly_a advice_n to_o thy_o fleshly_a feel_n and_o this_o also_o know_v that_o the_o lord_n be_v please_v to_o leave_v the_o soul_n so_o sometime_o for_o its_o trial_n a_o little_a season_n that_o in_o mercy_n he_o may_v gather_v it_o more_o clean_o into_o himself_o to_o grow_v and_o spring_v up_o as_o a_o morningstar_n and_o deliverance_n he_o will_v sure_o give_v in_o the_o needful_a time_n to_o all_o his_o member_n that_o they_o may_v trust_v in_o he_o more_o full_o and_o then_o he_o glad_v they_o with_o his_o presence_n and_o fasten_v they_o to_o himself_o show_v they_o his_o secret_n and_o give_v they_o treasure_n of_o wisdom_n and_o knowledge_n he_o bring_v in_o light_n and_o expel_v darkness_n open_v the_o eye_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o light_v it_o to_o see_v how_o good_a it_o be_v for_o it_o to_o be_v so_o trouble_v the_o like_a whereof_o david_n witness_v and_o thereby_o learned_a the_o lord_n righteous_a judgement_n i_o shall_v here_o say_v little_a of_o the_o faith_n that_o stand_v in_o the_o wisdom_n of_o man_n though_o that_o be_v most_o in_o use_n and_o esteem_v with_o the_o worldly_a wise_a man_n of_o this_o generation_n because_o it_o be_v of_o mention_v in_o other_o place_n as_o the_o great_a engine_n of_o deceit_n serve_v to_o silence_v the_o voice_n of_o christ_n in_o their_o own_o and_o other_o conscience_n and_o for_o other_o earthly_a end_n and_o to_o lead_v they_o into_o perilous_a path_n of_o sin_n and_o selfishness_n from_o the_o pure_a and_o spiritual_a path_n of_o jesus_n christ_n the_o endless_a light_n love_n wisdom_n and_o power_n of_o god_n whereby_o man_n conversion_n be_v hinder_v and_o the_o way_n thereto_o as_o it_o be_v thereby_o block_v up_o for_o in_o man_n conversion_n before_o reason_n be_v turn_v into_o light_n and_o will_v into_o love_n and_o the_o soul_n come_v into_o a_o wait_a condition_n for_o cleanse_v it_o usual_o feel_v its_o self_n heavy_a load_v dâ—ll_o and_o indispose_v thereto_o by_o reason_n of_o such_o obstruction_n as_o thereby_o and_o otherwise_o also_o lie_v wherein_o he_o feel_v no_o spiritual_a refreshment_n or_o true_a joy_n of_o love_n and_o delight_n and_o therefore_o he_o ever_o set_v his_o heart_n and_o mind_n spiritual_o upon_o good_a meditate_v on_o he_o to_o know_v what_o he_o will_v and_o to_o please_v he_o see_v he_o know_v he_o have_v love_n and_o enjoy_v he_o by_o his_o grace_n and_o by_o degree_n more_o and_o better_o and_o as_o the_o soul_n ever_o keep_v to_o these_o desire_n it_o will_v be_v show_v plain_o in_o the_o light_n what_o be_v evil_a and_o what_o good_a what_o be_v please_v to_o god_n and_o what_o be_v contrary_a to_o he_o and_o teach_v he_o all_o needful_a thing_n for_o salvation_n gain_v they_o for_o he_o and_o bestow_v they_o on_o he_o and_o therefore_o as_o there_o be_v a_o stand_v fast_o in_o this_o watchful_a desire_n victory_n will_v be_v give_v so_o that_o the_o soul_n wait_v and_o meditate_v meek_o and_o patient_o until_o jesus_n christ_n accept_v thereof_o give_v spiritual_a savour_n and_o accomplish_v his_o own_o work_n therein_o with_o victory_n as_o to_o other_o saint_n in_o his_o own_o time_n and_o so_o as_o it_o may_v become_v that_o soul_n chief_a joy_n to_o know_v and_o do_v that_o heavenly_a will_n because_o of_o the_o true_a spiritual_a delight_n therein_o but_o if_o man_n shall_v comply_v and_o strive_v with_o his_o bodily_a wit_n and_o worldly_a wisdom_n that_o will_v but_o drive_v he_o far_o off_o and_o a_o wretched_a thing_n it_o be_v for_o any_o man_n to_o leave_v the_o inward_a watch_n and_o keep_n of_o his_o heart_n and_o shape_n to_o himself_o any_o outward_a form_n spirit_n and_o deceive_v himself_o by_o think_v he_o have_v acceptance_n with_o god_n in_o his_o own_o do_n which_o so_o do_v be_v direct_o against_o god_n though_o they_o may_v be_v right_a and_o acceptable_a in_o those_o that_o be_v lead_v thereto_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o this_o general_a call_n of_o soul_n employment_n nothing_o be_v right_o do_v but_o in_o watch_v and_o prayer_n nor_o any_o true_a watch_n keep_v or_o prayer_n present_v but_o in_o the_o light_n and_o with_o a_o spiritual_a understanding_n wherein_o virtue_n wisdom_n and_o strength_n come_v to_o be_v receive_v and_o right_o employ_v but_o this_o consist_v not_o in_o learning_n to_o say_v word_n or_o know_v how_o many_o part_n prayer_n have_v or_o how_o to_o word_n it_o wise_o for_o the_o draw_v of_o other_o affection_n and_o so_o to_o make_v long_a prayer_n for_o pretence_n or_o as_o to_o be_v hear_v for_o much_o speak_n in_o the_o way_n that_o man_n wisdom_n teach_v of_o bodily_a exercise_n as_o do_v the_o pharisee_n whereof_o christ_n warn_v his_o disciple_n and_o lift_v up_o themselves_o in_o their_o own_o strength_n for_o the_o applause_n of_o man_n that_o they_o may_v be_v repute_v able_a christian_n of_o excellent_a part_n full_a of_o knowledge_n better_a than_o other_o etc._n etc._n by_o which_o mean_v many_o be_v themselves_o deceive_v by_o think_v they_o have_v the_o grace_n of_o christ_n and_o spiritual_a knowledge_n and_o thereupon_o do_v so_o worship_v and_o please_v themselves_o in_o their_o heart_n as_o if_o they_o be_v the_o only_a man_n to_o pray_v praise_n and_o of_o the_o a_o ostle_n doctrine_n fellowship_n and_o prayer_n as_o they_o be_v of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o the_o godhead_n in_o the_o manhood_n of_o christ_n but_o that_o no_o man_n may_v mistake_v my_o understanding_n in_o the_o command_n of_o christ_n jesus_n my_o lord_n how_o to_o pray_v or_o my_o practice_n in_o obedience_n thereto_o let_v every_o one_o turn_v in_o their_o mind_n to_o his_o light_n and_o there_o wait_v to_o know_v how_o he_o say_v enter_v into_o thy_o closet_n and_o shut_v thy_o door_n forget_v not_o that_o and_o pray_v to_o thy_o father_n in_o secret_a so_o christ_n himself_o pray_v in_o the_o mountain_n in_o the_o garden_n in_o the_o desert_n alone_o from_o his_o disciple_n and_o require_v thâ—m_n to_o watch_v and_o pray_v and_o also_o appoint_a joint_n particular_a case_n as_o be_v that_o in_o choose_v one_o in_o the_o room_n of_o judas_n their_o pray_v together_o with_o one_o accord_n their_o sit_v so_o together_o wait_v for_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n while_o they_o have_v receive_v but_o the_o first_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n so_o likewise_o the_o church_n pray_v for_o peter_n and_o for_o other_o on_o other_o occasion_n
