that_o by_o the_o mean_n of_o death_n for_o the_o redemption_n of_o the_o transgression_n that_o be_v under_o the_o first_o covenant_n they_o which_o be_v call_v may_v receive_v the_o promise_n of_o a_o eternal_a inheritance_n heb._n 9.15_o then_o it_o be_v that_o he_o be_v once_o offer_v to_o bear_v the_o sin_n of_o many_o and_o unto_o they_o that_o look_v for_o he_o he_o will_v appear_v the_o second_o time_n without_o sin_n unto_o salvation_n bless_a be_v all_o they_o that_o wait_v for_o he_o in_o sincerity_n but_o i_o come_v to_o the_o matter_n in_o hand_n and_o in_o the_o first_o place_n i_o will_v note_v by_o the_o way_n four_o thing_n from_o the_o four_o first_o verse_n of_o this_o chapter_n antecedent_n to_o our_o text._n one_a samson_n fall_v in_o love_n with_o a_o woman_n in_o timnath_n a_o daughter_n of_o the_o philistine_n ver._n 1._o and_o from_o hence_o i_o observe_v that_o as_o samson_n love_v this_o philistine_n woman_n though_o dwell_v in_o the_o house_n of_o his_o enemy_n and_o so_o by_o nature_n one_o of_o they_o so_o also_o jesus_n christ_n love_v his_o church_n when_o in_o the_o house_n of_o his_o enemy_n viz._n the_o fall_a estate_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o whilst_o she_o be_v a_o enemy_n he_o lay_v down_o his_o life_n for_o she_o rom._n 5.8_o 2_o the_o opposition_n he_o meet_v with_o from_o his_o father_n and_o his_o mother_n in_o the_o pursuit_n of_o his_o desire_n in_o take_v she_o to_o be_v his_o wife_n ver_fw-la 3._o and_o hence_o i_o observe_v that_o person_n out_o of_o a_o sincere_a zeal_n may_v sometime_o oppose_v god_n in_o his_o most_o wise_a and_o oft_o time_n various_a dispensation_n 3_o the_o reason_n move_v they_o so_o to_o do_v ver_fw-la 3._o which_o be_v because_o she_o be_v a_o stranger_n of_o another_o nation_n and_o father_n and_o mother_n when_o by_o they_o oppose_v for_o love_v of_o this_o daughter_n of_o the_o philistine_n get_v she_o for_o i_o for_o she_o please_v i_o well_o and_o from_o hence_o i_o observe_v 1._o that_o as_o no_o opposition_n nor_o persuasion_n can_v remove_v samson_n affection_n from_o this_o philistine_n woman_n so_o nothing_o no_o not_o sin_n itself_o can_v nor_o can_v ever_o be_v able_a to_o separate_v or_o remove_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n from_o his_o church_n jer._n 31.3_o rom._n 8.38_o 39_o but_o contrariwise_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n will_v move_v he_o to_o separate_v and_o remove_v all_o sin_n with_o whatever_o else_o offend_v he_o from_o she_o in_o his_o own_o time_n 2._o as_o the_o want_n of_o circumcision_n and_o several_a other_o thing_n require_v by_o the_o law_n can_v not_o prevent_v samson_n love_v and_o marry_v of_o this_o philistine_n woman_n so_o want_v of_o inherent_a qualification_n &c._n &c._n can_v hinder_v christ_n love_v and_o espouse_v of_o his_o church_n to_o himself_o ezek._n 16.6_o 7_o 8._o but_o contrariwise_o his_o love_n to_o she_o have_v do_v and_o will_v move_v he_o to_o wash_v and_o cleanse_v she_o fit_a and_o qualify_v she_o renew_v enrich_v and_o adorn_v she_o so_o as_o may_v render_v she_o most_o well-pleasing_a in_o his_o eye_n ezek._n 16.9_o 10_o 11_o 12_o &_o 13._o and_o this_o bring_v i_o to_o our_o text_n in_o which_o i_o will_v note_v four_o thing_n also_o one_a samson_n journey_n down_o to_o timnath_n a_o city_n of_o the_o philistian_o and_o from_o hence_o take_v this_o proposition_n that_o as_o samson_n go_v down_o to_o timnath_n a_o city_n of_o the_o philistine_n to_o take_v a_o wife_n from_o thence_o so_o jesus_n christ_n come_v down_o from_o heaven_n into_o this_o sinful_a bewildered_a world_n to_o purchase_v marriage_n and_o betrothe_v unto_o himself_o his_o belove_a church_n and_o spouse_n hos_fw-la 2.19_o jer._n 3.14_o 2_o his_o occasion_n thither_o which_o be_v to_o marry_v the_o woman_n who_o love_n notwithstanding_o her_o nonconformity_n to_o the_o law_n and_o custom_n of_o israel_n have_v make_v so_o well-pleasing_a unto_o he_o and_o from_o hence_o take_v a_o second_o proposition_n that_o as_o love_n be_v the_o only_a impulsive_a or_o move_a cause_n which_o bring_v samson_n down_o to_o timnath_n to_o marry_v this_o woman_n who_o otherwise_o can_v not_o have_v be_v acceptable_a to_o no_o more_o than_o she_o be_v in_o a_o eye_n of_o reason_n fit_a for_o he_o so_o likewise_o mere_a love_n be_v the_o impulsive_a cause_n which_o alone_o move_v jesus_n christ_n to_o come_v down_o upon_o the_o earth_n to_o marry_v his_o church_n unto_o himself_o who_o have_v she_o not_o be_v so_o love_v by_o he_o can_v never_o have_v otherwise_o be_v acceptable_a to_o he_o be_v in_o her_o fall_a estate_n in_o a_o eye_n of_o reason_n upon_o all_o account_n so_o unfit_a for_o he_o 3_o his_o company_n which_o go_v down_o with_o he_o which_o be_v his_o father_n and_o his_o mother_n he_o will_v do_v nothing_o in_o the_o case_n without_o their_o company_n and_o consent_n which_o afford_v we_o this_o three_o proposition_n that_o as_o samson_n notwithstanding_o the_o ardency_n of_o his_o love_n will_v do_v nothing_o without_o the_o knowledge_n advice_n company_n and_o consent_n of_o his_o father_n and_o mother_n so_o jesus_n christ_n in_o all_o his_o proceed_n in_o and_o towards_o his_o church_n do_v not_o only_o in_o all_o thing_n conform_v to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o father_n but_o also_o have_v the_o father_n still_o present_a with_o he_o to_o bear_v he_o company_n mat._n 26.39_o and_o so_o much_o be_v he_o delight_v therein_o that_o when_o through_o excessive_a sorrow_n and_o trouble_n he_o have_v but_o the_o least_o apprehension_n of_o his_o father_n absence_n

his_o mind_n his_o affection_n together_o with_o all_o other_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v altogether_o dead_a and_o lifeless_a and_o second_o it_o be_v a_o deadness_n in_o sin_n not_o to_o sin_n for_o so_o be_v the_o true_o godly_a according_a to_o their_o measure_n but_o a_o deadness_n in_o sin_n hence_o note_n a_o natural_a man_n thus_o dead_a in_o sin_n be_v first_o not_o sensible_a of_o than_o ordinary_a in_o the_o mean_a while_n not_o see_v that_o his_o whole_a nature_n be_v pollute_v and_o that_o the_o best_a of_o his_o action_n whilst_o out_o of_o christ_n be_v but_o as_o filthy_a rag_n which_o instead_o of_o merit_v any_o good_a thing_n for_o he_o do_v rather_o like_o the_o blood_n of_o abel_n cry_v to_o heaven_n for_o vengeance_n upon_o he_o for_o without_o christ_n we_o can_v do_v nothing_o john_n 15.5_o that_o be_v nothing_o well-pleasing_a to_o he_o for_o whatsoever_o be_v not_o of_o faith_n be_v sin_n o_o that_o the_o world_n can_v once_o be_v bring_v to_o see_v and_o in_o sermon_n after_o sermon_n and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o man_z whilst_o in_o nature_n have_v neither_o eye_n to_o see_v ear_n to_o hear_v nor_o heart_n to_o receive_v oh_o sad_a condition_n but_o again_o three_o the_o state_n of_o christ_n church_n in_o general_n and_o of_o every_o member_n thereof_o in_o particular_a before_o call_v by_o christ_n etc._n etc._n be_v a_o state_n of_o blindness_n and_o insensibility_n for_o though_o man_n in_o this_o estate_n lie_v in_o the_o gall_n of_o bitterness_n and_o bond_n of_o iniquity_n chain_v up_o in_o the_o devil_n prison_n where_o this_o from_o the_o scripture_n and_o god_n minister_n yet_o still_o he_o remain_v blind_a and_o insensible_a till_o god_n move_v upon_o the_o heart_n see_v eph._n 4.18_o but_o four_o for_o i_o haste_v the_o state_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n and_o every_o member_n thereof_o whilst_o in_o nature_n and_o uncalled_a be_v a_o state_n of_o alienation_n from_o god_n alas_o whilst_o thus_o they_o have_v no_o true_a knowledge_n of_o he_o nor_o fellowship_n with_o he_o they_o see_v he_o not_o nor_o enjoy_v he_o though_o in_o he_o they_o live_v move_v and_o have_v their_o be_v they_o rise_v up_o in_o the_o morning_n and_o lie_v down_o again_o at_o night_n day_n after_o day_n month_n after_o month_n and_o yet_o have_v not_o god_n in_o a_o godly_a way_n as_o much_o as_o once_o in_o all_o their_o thought_n they_o rare_o do_v as_o much_o as_o once_o serious_o consider_v whether_o they_o be_v go_v to_o life_n or_o death_n to_o heaven_n or_o hell_n to_o god_n or_o the_o devil_n five_o and_o last_o the_o state_n of_o christ_n church_n in_o general_n and_o every_o member_n thereof_o in_o particular_a before_o effectual_o call_v by_o christ_n to_o himself_o be_v a_o state_n of_o deceiveableness_n this_o paul_n confess_v to_o titus_n titus_n 3.3_o for_o alas_o general_o nay_o i_o think_v i_o may_v say_v always_o they_o that_o be_v most_o without_o god_n have_v the_o least_o sense_n of_o the_o want_n of_o god_n they_o that_o be_v most_o with_o the_o devil_n be_v in_o the_o least_o fear_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o they_o that_o be_v real_o the_o great_a sinner_n be_v the_o least_o trouble_a for_o their_o sin_n for_o either_o they_o be_v whole_o carnal_a in_o their_o life_n as_o well_o as_o heart_n and_o so_o mind_v no_o religion_n at_o all_o or_o else_o they_o fall_v a_o do_v and_o work_v for_o life_n build_v upon_o their_o prayer_n duty_n work_n and_o obedience_n think_v these_o shall_v stand_v they_o in_o some_o stead_n conclude_v that_o if_o they_o can_v but_o live_v civil_o deal_v just_o do_v their_o duty_n orderly_o and_o keep_v all_o god_n commandment_n to_o the_o utmost_a of_o their_o power_n according_a to_o the_o law_n well_o then_o undoubted_o all_o shall_v be_v well_o with_o they_o both_o in_o death_n and_o judgement_n and_o consequent_o to_o eternity_n though_o they_o know_v nothing_o no_o nothing_o of_o christ_n the_o gospel_n faith_n nor_o self-denial_n not_o mind_v that_o the_o scripture_n say_v that_o there_o be_v no_o name_n give_v under_o heaven_n whereby_o we_o can_v be_v save_v but_o the_o name_n of_o jesus_n and_o that_o whosoever_o believe_v not_o in_o he_o shall_v be_v damn_v for_o without_o faith_n it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v he_o but_o do_v and_o live_v be_v the_o only_a religion_n of_o heaven_n and_o lord_n of_o eternity_n shall_v become_v suitor_n to_o such_o hellhound_n as_o the_o best_a of_o we_o be_v by_o nature_n again_o observe_v that_o text_n in_o jer._n 3.12_o &_o 22._o where_o the_o lord_n most_o earnest_o and_o compassionate_o suit_v exhort_v and_o invit_v his_o church_n with_o all_o possible_a persuasion_n to_o return_v from_o her_o backslide_n for_o say_v he_o i_o be_o marry_v unto_o you_o ver_fw-la 14._o only_o acknowledge_v your_o iniquity_n and_o that_o you_o have_v transgress_v against_o i_o and_o then_o return_v oh_o hackslide_a child_n and_o i_o
