a_o eternal_a inheritance_n heb._n 9.15_o then_o it_o be_v that_o he_o be_v once_o offer_v to_o bear_v the_o sin_n of_o many_o and_o unto_o they_o that_o look_v for_o he_o he_o will_v appear_v the_o second_o time_n without_o sin_n unto_o salvation_n bless_a be_v all_o they_o that_o wait_v for_o he_o in_o sincerity_n but_o i_o come_v to_o the_o matter_n in_o hand_n and_o in_o the_o first_o place_n i_o will_v note_v by_o the_o way_n four_o thing_n from_o the_o four_o first_o verse_n of_o this_o chapter_n antecedent_n to_o our_o text._n one_a samson_n fall_v in_o love_n with_o a_o woman_n in_o timnath_n a_o daughter_n of_o the_o philistine_n ver._n 1._o and_o from_o hence_o i_o observe_v that_o as_o samson_n love_v this_o philistine_n woman_n though_o dwell_v in_o the_o house_n of_o his_o enemy_n and_o so_o by_o nature_n one_o of_o they_o so_o also_o jesus_n christ_n love_v his_o church_n when_o in_o the_o house_n of_o his_o enemy_n viz._n the_o fall_a estate_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o whilst_o she_o be_v a_o enemy_n he_o lay_v down_o his_o life_n for_o she_o rom._n 5.8_o 2_o the_o opposition_n he_o meet_v with_o from_o his_o father_n and_o his_o mother_n in_o the_o pursuit_n of_o his_o desire_n in_o take_v she_o to_o be_v his_o wife_n ver_fw-la 3._o and_o hence_o i_o observe_v that_o person_n out_o of_o a_o sincere_a zeal_n may_v sometime_o oppose_v god_n in_o his_o most_o wise_a and_o oft_o time_n various_a dispensation_n 3_o the_o reason_n move_v they_o so_o to_o do_v ver_fw-la 3._o which_o be_v because_o she_o be_v a_o stranger_n of_o another_o nation_n and_o 1._o that_o as_o no_o opposition_n nor_o persuasion_n can_v remove_v samson_n affection_n from_o this_o philistine_n woman_n so_o nothing_o no_o not_o sin_n itself_o can_v nor_o can_v ever_o be_v able_a to_o separate_v or_o remove_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n from_o his_o church_n jer._n 31.3_o rom._n 8.38_o 39_o but_o contrariwise_o the_o love_n of_o christ_n will_v move_v he_o to_o separate_v and_o remove_v all_o sin_n with_o whatever_o else_o offend_v he_o from_o she_o in_o his_o own_o time_n 2._o as_o the_o want_n of_o circumcision_n and_o several_a other_o thing_n require_v by_o the_o law_n can_v not_o prevent_v samson_n love_v and_o marry_v of_o this_o philistine_n woman_n so_o want_v of_o inherent_a qualification_n &c._n &c._n can_v hinder_v christ_n love_v and_o espouse_v of_o his_o church_n to_o himself_o ezek._n 16.6_o 7_o 8._o but_o contrariwise_o his_o love_n to_o she_o have_v do_v and_o will_v move_v he_o to_o wash_v and_o cleanse_v she_o fit_a and_o qualify_v she_o renew_v enrich_v and_o adorn_v she_o so_o as_o may_v render_v she_o most_o well-pleasing_a in_o his_o eye_n ezek._n 16.9_o 10_o 11_o 12_o &_o 13._o and_o this_o bring_v i_o to_o our_o bewildered_a world_n to_o purchase_v marriage_n and_o betrothe_v unto_o himself_o his_o belove_a church_n and_o spouse_n hos_fw-la 2.19_o jer._n 3.14_o 2_o his_o occasion_n thither_o which_o be_v to_o and_o his_o mother_n he_o will_v do_v nothing_o in_o the_o case_n without_o their_o company_n and_o consent_n which_o afford_v we_o this_o three_o proposition_n that_o as_o samson_n notwithstanding_o the_o ardency_n of_o his_o love_n will_v do_v nothing_o without_o the_o knowledge_n advice_n company_n and_o consent_n of_o his_o father_n and_o mother_n so_o jesus_n christ_n in_o all_o his_o proceed_n in_o and_o towards_o his_o church_n do_v not_o only_o in_o all_o thing_n conform_v to_o the_o will_n of_o his_o father_n but_o also_o have_v the_o father_n still_o present_a with_o he_o to_o bear_v he_o company_n mat._n 26.39_o and_o so_o much_o be_v he_o delight_v therein_o that_o when_o through_o excessive_a sorrow_n and_o trouble_n he_o have_v but_o the_o least_o apprehension_n of_o but_o more_o especial_o this_o young_a lion_n so_o jesus_n christ_n in_o endeavour_v the_o redemption_n and_o espousal_n of_o his_o church_n unto_o himself_o have_v and_o do_v meet_v with_o many_o opposition_n but_o especial_o that_o roar_a lion_n the_o devil_n 1_o pet._n 5.8_o for_o 1._o when_o he_o be_v in_o the_o flesh_n in_o order_n to_o the_o accomplishment_n of_o man_n redemption_n how_o often_o do_v this_o lion_n this_o devil_n set_v upon_o he_o and_o not_o content_v himself_o with_o daily_o trouble_v vex_v and_o persecute_v of_o he_o by_o his_o wicked_a instrument_n the_o jew_n he_o first_o drive_v he_o into_o the_o wilderness_n to_o tempt_v he_o there_o where_o he_o deal_v with_o he_o as_o it_o be_v hand_n to_o fist_n but_o still_o do_v no_o good_a again_o 2._o he_o stir_v up_o husband_n he_o desire_v to_o have_v poor_a believer_n the_o church_n that_o he_o may_v try_v and_o sift_v they_o as_o wheat_n and_o true_o beloved_n the_o devil_n have_v put_v many_o a_o poor_a christian_a hard_a to_o it_o he_o have_v make_v many_o a_o one_o cry_v out_o oh_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v and_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o many_o of_o you_o in_o this_o congregation_n have_v meet_v with_o he_o to_o your_o sorrow_n and_o so_o by_o woeful_a experience_n know_v these_o thing_n i_o now_o speak_v to_o be_v true_a but_o to_o all_o you_o that_o be_v labour_v in_o this_o bitter_a warfare_n and_o hour_n of_o trial_n this_o day_n of_o jacob_n trouble_n let_v i_o say_v thus_o much_o to_o you_o have_v a_o care_n of_o trust_v to_o the_o arm_n of_o flesh_n and_o of_o put_v confidence_n in_o man_n have_v a_o care_n of_o sell_v yourselves_o for_o nought_o by_o put_v confidence_n in_o that_o which_o can_v save_v but_o consider_v our_o great_a samson_n be_v spiritual_o come_v down_o in_o and_o by_o the_o gospel_n and_o he_o be_v among_o we_o and_o present_v with_o we_o and_o if_o he_o do_v but_o as_o much_o as_o show_v his_o head_n or_o make_v bare_a his_o arm_n in_o any_o of_o our_o heart_n and_o soul_n than_o the_o devil_n be_v go_v he_o be_v flee_v and_o though_o we_o seek_v he_o at_o such_o a_o time_n we_o can_v find_v he_o and_o why_o well_o because_o christ_n be_v come_v down_o to_o dwell_v with_o we_o oh_o sir_n can_v we_o but_o live_v more_o by_o faith_n with_o and_o in_o christ_n we_o shall_v be_v less_o trouble_v with_o the_o devil_n company_n but_o i_o haste_v belove_a time_n will_v not_o permit_v i_o to_o speak_v to_o all_o these_o four_o proposition_n thus_o raise_v from_o the_o word_n i_o shall_v therefore_o make_v choice_n of_o the_o point_n i_o shall_v observe_v this_o method_n first_o to_o show_v the_o state_n and_o condition_n of_o christ_n church_n in_o general_n and_o every_o member_n thereof_o in_o particular_a before_o call_v by_o and_o unite_v or_o marry_v unto_o jesus_n christ_n second_o i_o shall_v consider_v whether_o the_o church_n first_o seek_v unto_o christ_n or_o christ_n unto_o the_o church_n in_o order_n unto_o the_o effect_n of_o this_o bless_a union_n or_o marriage_n three_o mention_v some_o of_o the_o great_a let_n hindrance_n and_o impediment_n which_o do_v most_o interrupt_v this_o bless_a union_n and_o agreement_n betwixt_o christ_n and_o his_o church_n four_o i_o shall_v give_v you_o some_o caution_n in_o order_n to_o a_o timely_a prevention_n of_o the_o danger_n occasion_v thereby_o his_o mind_n his_o affection_n together_o with_o all_o other_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v altogether_o dead_a and_o lifeless_a and_o second_o it_o be_v a_o deadness_n in_o sin_n not_o to_o sin_n for_o so_o be_v the_o true_o godly_a according_a to_o their_o measure_n but_o a_o deadness_n in_o sin_n hence_o note_n a_o natural_a man_n thus_o dead_a in_o sin_n be_v first_o not_o sensible_a of_o sin_n second_o he_o be_v not_o trouble_v for_o sin_n three_o he_o be_v not_o burden_v with_o sin_n fourthly_a he_o have_v no_o true_a desire_n to_o be_v deliver_v from_o sin_n true_a he_o may_v have_v some_o conviction_n and_o perhaps_o sometime_o sharp_a one_o too_o but_o it_o be_v either_o not_o for_o sin_n as_o sin_n or_o else_o but_o for_o some_o particular_a act_n of_o sin_n more_o notorious_a than_o ordinary_a in_o the_o mean_a while_n not_o see_v that_o his_o whole_a nature_n be_v pollute_v and_o that_o the_o best_a of_o his_o action_n whilst_o out_o of_o christ_n be_v but_o as_o filthy_a rag_n which_o instead_o of_o merit_v any_o good_a thing_n for_o he_o do_v rather_o like_o the_o blood_n of_o abel_n cry_v to_o heaven_n for_o vengeance_n upon_o he_o for_o without_o christ_n we_o can_v do_v nothing_o john_n 15.5_o that_o be_v nothing_o well-pleasing_a to_o he_o for_o whatsoever_o be_v not_o of_o faith_n be_v sin_n o_o that_o the_o world_n can_v once_o be_v bring_v to_o see_v haste_v the_o state_n of_o the_o church_n of_o christ_n and_o every_o member_n thereof_o whilst_o in_o nature_n and_o uncalled_a be_v a_o state_n of_o alienation_n from_o god_n alas_o whilst_o thus_o they_o have_v no_o true_a knowledge_n of_o he_o nor_o fellowship_n with_o he_o they_o see_v he_o not_o nor_o enjoy_v he_o though_o in_o he_o they_o live_v move_v and_o have_v their_o be_v they_o rise_v up_o in_o the_o morning_n and_o lie_v down_o again_o at_o night_n day_n after_o day_n month_n after_o month_n and_o yet_o have_v not_o god_n in_o a_o godly_a way_n as_o much_o as_o once_o in_o they_o can_v but_o live_v civil_o deal_v just_o do_v their_o duty_n orderly_o and_o keep_v all_o god_n commandment_n to_o the_o utmost_a of_o their_o power_n according_a to_o the_o law_n well_o then_o undoubted_o all_o shall_v be_v well_o with_o they_o both_o in_o death_n and_o judgement_n and_o consequent_o to_o eternity_n though_o they_o know_v nothing_o no_o nothing_o of_o christ_n the_o
