and_o by_o the_o mark_n and_o figne_n of_o sanctification_n it_o be_v to_o be_v wish_v that_o both_o the_o one_o party_n and_o the_o other_o yea_o the_o whole_a generation_n of_o holy_a one_o the_o son_n of_o unity_n will_v study_v unity_n among_o themselves_o and_o make_v conscience_n of_o that_o apostolical_a injunction_n so_o far_o as_o in_o they_o lie_v 1._o thess_n 4.11_o study_v to_o be_v and_o to_o differ_v and_o it_o be_v a_o very_a acceptable_a thing_n unto_o they_o to_o differ_v from_o their_o brethren_n and_o to_o blaze_v the_o same_o i_o will_v not_o be_v mistake_v a_o tender_a conscience_n a_o inquire_a and_o search_v spirit_n after_o the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v very_o commendable_a but_o yet_o with_o special_a respect_n to_o the_o community_n of_o christ_n and_o all_o his_o church_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v we_o suffer_v much_o disadvantage_n by_o our_o neglect_n this_o way_n but_o to_o return_v to_o the_o business_n in_o hand_n this_o i_o think_v will_v be_v grant_v that_o for_o a_o man_n to_o know_v his_o interest_n in_o god_n and_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o his_o heart_n be_v a_o part_n of_o sanctification_n whether_o it_o be_v by_o the_o testimony_n of_o the_o spirit_n or_o any_o other_o way_n and_o therefore_o at_o least_o in_o some_o sense_n it_o be_v to_o be_v grant_v that_o the_o knowledge_n of_o our_o justification_n be_v by_o the_o knowledge_n of_o our_o sanctification_n again_o this_o i_o think_v will_v be_v likewise_o grant_v that_o no_o man_n can_v be_v assure_v of_o his_o justification_n and_o not_o be_v sanctify_v that_o he_o can_v know_v his_o justification_n without_o sanctification_n it_o be_v very_o true_a that_o it_o be_v a_o very_a hard_a and_o difficult_a thing_n to_o find_v out_o the_o truth_n of_o holiness_n and_o supernatural_a work_n of_o god_n spirit_n in_o the_o soul_n the_o heart_n of_o man_n be_v so_o deceitful_a above_o all_o thing_n and_o there_o be_v so_o many_o counterfeit_a quallification_n and_o common_a gift_n and_o it_o be_v to_o be_v grant_v also_o that_o many_o delude_a hypocrite_n think_v great_a matter_n of_o their_o conceit_a holiness_n from_o such_o and_o such_o quallisication_n wrought_v within_o they_o and_o such_o and_o such_o thing_n do_v by_o they_o and_o many_o also_o who_o heart_n be_v most_o upright_o with_o their_o god_n yet_o through_o ignorance_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o consciousness_n of_o their_o own_o guilt_n misjudge_v of_o their_o own_o happy_a estate_n and_o so_o err_v on_o the_o other_o hand_n yet_o this_o i_o think_v be_v not_o to_o be_v deny_v viz._n that_o the_o mean_a saint_n have_v peculiar_a and_o fingular_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o their_o very_a worst_a condition_n of_o soul_n which_o the_o most_o glorious_a hypocrite_n in_o the_o world_n never_o have_v in_o their_o best_a condition_n and_o great_a inlargement_n in_o their_o heart_n these_o consideration_n be_v premise_v the_o result_n herein_o will_v be_v this_o that_o as_o inward_a quallification_n be_v to_o be_v heed_v i_o mean_v in_o use_v they_o as_o satisfactory_a mark_n of_o a_o undoubted_a condition_n ☞_o ☞_o sound_n and_o good_a in_o jesus_n christ_n so_o on_o the_o other_o hand_n they_o be_v not_o altogether_o to_o be_v neglect_v as_o useless_a for_o such_o a_o purpose_n for_o doubtless_o if_o man_n will_v take_v that_o pain_n with_o their_o spirit_n as_o they_o may_v do_v they_o may_v in_o a_o very_a probable_a if_o not_o certain_a way_n have_v much_o satisfaction_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o state_n of_o for_o that_o suffer_a condition_n and_o the_o sweet_a experiment_n of_o his_o love_n therein_o that_o bowel_n of_o love_n direct_v the_o rod_n and_o infinite_a goodness_n guide_v the_o hand_n three_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n persuade_v that_o god_n as_o a_o father_n will_v but_o discipline_n he_o by_o affliction_n and_o thereby_o make_v he_o meet_v for_o his_o inheritance_n a_o ingenuous_a believer_n be_v not_o satisfy_v that_o glory_n be_v purchase_v for_o he_o by_o the_o suffering_n of_o christ_n but_o be_v willing_a also_o to_o be_v make_v meet_v for_o that_o inheritance_n by_o his_o own_o suffering_n forasmuch_o as_o it_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n that_o through_o many_o affliction_n we_o must_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n the_o lord_n jesus_n himself_o sanctify_v that_o road_n by_o his_o own_o suffering_n for_o this_o cause_n the_o apostle_n paul_n with_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o suffer_a saint_n do_v not_o faint_a because_o though_o the_o outward_a man_n do_v perish_v yet_o the_o inner_a man_n be_v renew_a day_n by_o day_n 2_o corinth_n 4.16_o what_o a_o believer_n be_v in_o estate_n he_o be_v in_o spiritual_n and_o he_o reckon_v himself_o to_o rise_v and_o fall_v as_o be_v the_o condition_n not_o of_o his_o outward_a but_o inner_a man_n and_o herein_o be_v the_o difference_n between_o a_o formal_a and_o real_a christian_a let_v the_o formalist_n abound_v in_o the_o outward_a man_n he_o have_v his_o will_n but_o a_o believer_n rejoice_v in_o his_o increase_n and_o thrive_a in_o the_o inner_a man_n although_o it_o be_v gain_v by_o the_o perish_a of_o the_o outward_a man_n and_o therefore_o they_o will_v rejoice_v even_o in_o affliction_n know_v that_o their_o affliction_n work_v patience_n and_o patience_n experience_n and_o experience_n hope_v and_o hope_n make_v not_o ashamed_a because_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v shed_v abroad_o in_o their_o heart_n this_o kindly_a work_n of_o their_o affliction_n cauf_v they_o to_o thrive_v in_o the_o inner_a man_n and_o thereby_o fit_v they_o for_o glory_n make_v they_o sweet_o submit_v to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n herein_o it_o make_v they_o say_v with_o sweet_a submission_n of_o heart_n shall_v i_o not_o drink_v of_o my_o father_n cup_n and_o aught_o i_o not_o first_o to_o suffer_v and_o then_o to_o enter_v into_o glory_n as_o christ_n do_v the_o soul_n look_v upon_o these_o outward_a affliction_n which_o be_v but_o for_o a_o season_n as_o work_v for_o they_o a_o far_o more_o exceed_o and_o eternal_a weight_n of_o glory_n 2._o cor._n 4.18_o see_v here_o
