feed_v then_o the_o people_n teach_v be_v such_o as_o the_o prophet_n pronounce_v woe_n against_o of_o old_a 3._o who_o feed_v themselves_o and_o eat_v the_o fat_a but_o feed_v not_o the_o flock_n they_o or_o do_v they_o send_v one_o another_o do_v they_o attend_v unto_o the_o word_n in_o their_o heart_n or_o do_v they_o steal_v the_o word_n from_o their_o neighbour_n do_v they_o use_v their_o tongue_n and_o say_v he_o say_v when_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o speak_v to_o they_o if_o so_o how_o then_o can_v any_o benefit_n be_v expect_v from_o they_o the_o lord_n have_v say_v express_o of_o their_o ministry_n with_o the_o divine_a institution_n and_o see_v how_o they_o agree_v what_o he_o mean_v by_o divine_a institution_n he_o have_v not_o express_v but_o that_o which_o be_v general_o to_o man_n and_o to_o ourselves_o be_v the_o tendency_n of_o a_o good_a ministry_n how_o can_v that_o ministry_n be_v good_a which_o deny_v that_o all_o duty_n in_o we_o latitude_n both_o to_o god_n to_o man_n and_o to_o ourselves_o can_v be_v perform_v in_o this_o life_n yet_o that_o the_o english_a ministry_n do_v deny_v this_o be_v not_o only_o notorious_o know_v but_o be_v also_o evident_a from_o this_o very_a conference_n a_o great_a part_n of_o which_o be_v spend_v to_o prove_v the_o impossibility_n of_o be_v free_v from_o the_o act_n of_o sin_n in_o this_o life_n whereas_o the_o least_o sin_n be_v a_o breach_n of_o duty_n in_o some_o degree_n or_o other_o either_o to_o god_n to_o man_n or_o to_o ourselves_o hence_o i_o infer_v that_o if_o the_o proper_a tendency_n of_o a_o true_a ministry_n be_v as_o this_o man_n in_o word_n acknowledge_v to_o bring_v people_n to_o such_o a_o vniform_a through_o conscientious_a obedience_n as_o amount_n to_o the_o performance_n of_o all_o duty_n in_o its_o latitude_n both_o to_o god_n to_o man_n and_o to_o themselves_o then_o can_v this_o man_n ministry_n be_v true_a because_o it_o do_v not_o tend_v to_o the_o performance_n of_o all_o duty_n etc._n etc._n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a by_o plead_v a_o necessity_n of_o continue_v in_o sin_n make_v such_o a_o performance_n of_o all_o duty_n to_o be_v altogether_o impossible_a and_o this_o be_v another_o grand_a reason_n why_o the_o people_n be_v not_o profit_v by_o their_o ministry_n the_o fault_n whereof_o be_v in_o the_o minister_n beside_o they_o do_v not_o minister_v to_o the_o right_a part_n in_o people_n they_o aim_v rather_o at_o the_o head_n then_o the_o heart_n thus_o do_v not_o the_o minister_n of_o christ_n they_o commend_v themselves_o to_o every_o man_n be_v thenceforward_o believer_n but_o have_v not_o that_o faith_n which_o overcome_v the_o world_n and_o quench_v all_o the_o fiery_a dart_n of_o the_o wicked_a 6.16_o now_o that_o this_o be_v the_o mark_v they_o aim_v at_o hear_v what_o this_o minister_n speak_v of_o the_o ministry_n say_v 5._o we_o must_v not_o esteem_v that_o most_o powerful_a and_o profitable_a which_o produce_v only_o be_v one_o and_o the_o same_o thing_n namely_o the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o be_v quick_a and_o powerful_a he_o appear_v to_o be_v a_o stranger_n to_o but_o he_o ask_v whence_o we_o know_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v quick_a and_o lively_a answ._n by_o experience_n for_o though_o he_o be_v with_o the_o jew_n in_o the_o unbelief_n have_v never_o of_o god_n be_v quick_a and_o lively_a whereupon_o as_o apprehend_v some_o advantage_n he_o lay_v about_o he_o with_o all_o his_o may_v what!_o say_v he_o out_o of_o that_o bible_n which_o they_o call_v a_o dead_a letter_n and_o so_o go_v on_o for_o three_o or_o four_o page_n together_o in_o such_o a_o insult_a strain_n as_o if_o he_o have_v get_v some_o petty_a conquest_n and_o be_v now_o ride_v in_o triumph_n but_o a_o wise_a man_n will_v have_v defer_v his_o boast_v until_o he_o have_v put_v his_o armour_n off_o that_o the_o bible_n bare_o as_o it_o be_v a_o book_n be_v a_o dead_a the_o true_a sense_n and_o mean_v of_o the_o scripture_n can_v be_v understand_v and_o though_o the_o scripture_n without_o the_o spirit_n be_v a_o dead_a letter_n yet_o be_v open_v explain_v apply_v and_o the_o true_a sense_n of_o they_o give_v by_o the_o spirit_n they_o be_v then_o true_o serviceable_a and_o profitable_a for_o doctrine_n 3.16_o for_o reproof_n for_o correction_n for_o instruction_n in_o righteousness_n and_o may_v be_v so_o use_v by_o they_o that_o be_v lead_v and_o guide_v by_o the_o spirit_n without_o any_o of_o those_o absurdity_n which_o this_o man_n irreligious_o will_v fasten_v on_o they_o beside_o when_o the_o bible_n be_v call_v a_o dead_a letter_n it_o be_v as_o in_o his_o book_n in_o opposition_n to_o they_o that_o call_v it_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o this_o man_n express_o do_v in_o the_o very_a same_o page_n 107_o though_o to_o his_o own_o contradiction_n he_o have_v say_v but_o a_o few_o leave_v before_o pag._n 96._o it_o be_v letter_n it_o write_v be_v the_o sense_n of_o the_o letter_n thus_o all_o his_o great_a bluster_n and_o vapour_n against_o other_o end_v in_o the_o detection_n of_o his_o own_o confusion_n he_o say_v pag._n 112._o to_o look_v for_o more_o revelation_n or_o a_o repetition_n of_o the_o former_a will_v be_v equal_o a_o act_n of_o impudence_n and_o infidelity_n why_o of_o impudence_n and_o scripture_n themselves_o be_v able_a to_o make_v wise_a unto_o salvation_n through_o faith_n etc._n etc._n there_o be_v then_o no_o need_n of_o the_o help_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o i_o have_v already_o show_v that_o unless_o the_o spirit_n reveal_v and_o open_v they_o the_o scripture_n themselves_o can_v be_v right_o understand_v and_o he_o himself_o in_o say_v the_o spirit_n do_v help_v they_o to_o understand_v they_o and_o that_o they_o pray_v for_o its_o assistance_n therein_o pag._n 103._o do_v implicit_o acknowledge_v as_o much_o but_o if_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n of_o the_o
