such_o thing_n they_o have_v be_v live_v in_o their_o sin_n so_o long_o and_o never_o find_v that_o thing_n go_v otherwise_o then_o well_o with_o they_o no_o dint_n of_o any_o such_o threaten_n yea_o they_o see_v other_o so_o also_o none_o live_v more_o pleasant_o nor_o more_o prosperous_o than_o those_o who_o take_v very_o great_a liberty_n to_o themselves_o to_o break_v the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o this_o certain_o harden_v the_o heart_n of_o many_o a_o sinner_n as_o the_o scripture_n bear_v witness_v because_o sentence_n be_v not_o execute_v against_o the_o wicked_a speedy_o therefore_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o child_n of_o man_n be_v full_o set_v in_o they_o to_o do_v evil_a because_o man_n be_v not_o present_o punish_v and_o take_v out_o of_o hand_n as_o we_o say_v but_o get_v thou_o be_v not_o deal_v with_o according_a to_o god_n justice_n and_o judgement_n and_o threaten_n be_v not_o from_o thy_o deserve_n but_o from_o the_o riches_n and_o the_o goodness_n long_o suffer_v and_o patience_n of_o the_o lord_n wait_v upon_o thy_o repentance_n which_o if_o thou_o despise_v when_o the_o date_n of_o it_o be_v run_v out_o thou_o shall_v find_v the_o truth_n of_o his_o threaten_n and_o the_o debt_n of_o his_o justice_n so_o much_o the_o great_a the_o other_o thing_n he_o reply_v be_v this_o although_o thou_o shall_v escape_v the_o lord_n justice_n and_o judgement_n all_o thy_o life_n time_n here_o what_o of_o that_o be_v there_o no_o other_o place_n for_o justice_n for_o judgement_n for_o the_o accomplishment_n of_o god_n threaten_n then_o in_o this_o life_n be_v not_o the_o chief_a in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v alas_o thou_o consider_v not_o fare_v it_o with_o thou_o here_o as_o it_o will_v that_o yet_o thou_o be_v treasure_v up_o wrath_n against_o the_o abide_v thou_o and_o when_o the_o lord_n have_v give_v a_o sufficient_a proof_n of_o his_o patience_n towards_o thou_o they_o shall_v come_v upon_o thou_o when_o thou_o least_o expect_v as_o pain_n on_o a_o woman_n in_o travel_n if_o not_o in_o this_o life_n yet_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v and_o therefore_o be_v not_o the_o secure_a for_o this_o that_o they_o be_v not_o yet_o come_v upon_o thou_o but_o if_o thou_o will_v prevent_v this_o humble_v thyself_o under_o the_o mighty_a hand_n of_o god_n the_o other_o main_a impediment_n hinder_v the_o law_n with_o the_o threaten_n of_o it_o to_o have_v the_o due_a operation_n of_o it_o upon_o the_o heart_n of_o people_n as_o any_o may_v see_v be_v their_o presumption_n both_o in_o misapply_v the_o lord_n mercy_n and_o christ_n merit_n to_o themselves_o when_o as_o indeed_o they_o have_v no_o interest_n in_o they_o and_o yet_o this_o be_v it_o that_o make_v they_o secure_a against_o all_o the_o threaten_n and_o also_o mistake_v the_o manner_n of_o obtain_v mercy_n first_o then_o i_o say_v they_o presume_v and_o misapply_v god_n mercy_n and_o christ_n merit_n to_o themselves_o this_o be_v the_o thing_n that_o make_v many_o a_o soul_n to_o perish_v and_o therefore_o i_o beseech_v you_o take_v heed_n unto_o it_o they_o acknowledge_v that_o they_o be_v sinner_n and_o that_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n do_v belong_v to_o break_v off_o the_o course_n of_o thy_o iniquity_n and_o turn_v thy_o back_n upon_o thy_o sin_n and_o be_v endeavour_v to_o repent_v of_o what_o be_v past_a and_o to_o abstain_v for_o time_n to_o come_v if_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v make_v any_o work_n in_o thy_o soul_n than_o thou_o may_v be_v bold_a o_o but_o if_o none_o of_o these_o be_v no_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o thou_o have_v sin_v all_o their_o life_n time_n that_o a_o god_n have_v mercy_n upon_o they_o shall_v serve_v their_o turn_n and_o then_o think_v that_o they_o may_v believe_v repent_v and_o get_v mercy_n when_o they_o will_v and_o for_o a_o word_n o_o but_o let_v i_o tell_v such_o these_o thing_n be_v not_o so_o easy_o get_v and_o none_o so_o far_o from_o get_v mercy_n as_o they_o that_o presume_v upon_o it_o yea_o do_v not_o many_o of_o god_n child_n find_v it_o hard_o enough_o all_o their_o whole_a life_n to_o get_v faith_n repentance_n and_o mercy_n and_o will_v thou_o come_v so_o easy_o by_o they_o and_o think_v to_o get_v mercy_n for_o a_o word_n of_o thy_o mouth_n and_o final_o to_o end_v this_o point_n
and_o take_v deep_a root_n in_o the_o same_o than_o any_o care_n of_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v so_o if_o they_o seek_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n at_o all_o yet_o it_o can_v be_v say_v that_o they_o keep_v the_o rule_n seek_v first_o or_o chief_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n 2._o they_o be_v not_o diligent_a but_o slothful_a desire_n wish_v to_o die_v the_o death_n but_o not_o will_v to_o be_v at_o the_o pain_n to_o live_v the_o life_n of_o the_o righteous_a either_o they_o do_v nothing_o at_o all_o for_o it_o or_o at_o least_o not_o all_o that_o they_o shall_v do_v they_o may_v perhaps_o leave_v many_o sin_n as_o be_v to_o be_v see_v in_o herod_n not_o do_v all_o that_o be_v command_v as_o be_v to_o be_v see_v in_o the_o young_a man_n in_o the_o gospel_n notwithstanding_o he_o do_v seem_v to_o have_v a_o very_a forward_a and_o fervent_a desire_n of_o salvation_n still_o they_o stick_v and_o stand_v at_o something_o and_o howsoever_o they_o seek_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n yet_o add_v they_o not_o this_o and_o the_o righteousness_n thereof_o 3._o they_o be_v not_o stable_a nor_o constant_a desire_n but_o fit_v and_o start_n unconstant_a motion_n like_o the_o morning_n dew_n so_o that_o if_o they_o work_v at_o all_o yet_o do_v they_o not_o work_v out_o their_o salvation_n so_o that_o you_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o be_v put_v by_o the_o comfort_n of_o this_o point_n because_o of_o any_o desire_n in_o the_o wicked_a and_o unregenerate_a this_o way_n your_o desire_n be_v 1._o deep_a and_o serious_a such_o as_o can_v not_o be_v wise_a virgin_n will_v slumber_v christ_n own_o spouse_n sleep_v when_o her_o heart_n wake_v but_o herein_o stand_v the_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o instability_n and_o inconstancy_n of_o the_o wicked_n desire_n and_o of_o the_o godlies'_n that_o the_o godly_a although_o they_o remit_v sometime_o somewhat_o of_o the_o degree_n of_o their_o desire_n and_o care_v this_o way_n yet_o do_v they_o spiritual_a idolatry_n and_o whore_v after_o the_o creature_n they_o see_v not_o the_o filthiness_n of_o the_o spirit_n 2_o cor._n 7._o 2._o although_o they_o see_v sin_n in_o the_o branch_n and_o fruit_n yet_o see_v they_o it_o not_o in_o the_o root_n and_o fountain_n they_o see_v not_o into_o that_o original_a corruption_n of_o their_o nature_n the_o blindness_n error_n and_o vanity_n of_o sensible_a although_o it_o be_v secret_a further_o especial_o in_o the_o beginning_n of_o christianity_n it_o be_v not_o sensible_a for_o the_o understanding_n whereof_o consider_v that_o there_o be_v three_o sort_n of_o motive_n of_o obedience_n 1._o one_o altogether_o wrong_a have_v no_o eye_n to_o god_n so_o to_o eschew_v the_o ill_a opinion_n of_o man_n many_o do_v sundry_a good_a duty_n and_o become_v neighbour_n like_o in_o outward_a duty_n of_o outward_a obedience_n other_o to_o win_v the_o praise_n of_o man_n will_v go_v beyond_o their_o neighbour_n yea_o possible_o beyond_o good_a christian_n there_o be_v sundry_a other_o by-respect_n and_o many_o by-road_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o natural_a man_n and_o hypocrite_n the_o second_o sort_n of_o motive_n be_v that_o which_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o begin_v christian_n which_o be_v not_o altogether_o right_a and_o yet_o some_o way_n right_a as_o introductorie_n to_o right_n as_o have_v a_o eye_n to_o god_n and_o as_o join_v with_o some_o weak_a faith_n and_o some_o insensible_a love_n this_o be_v the_o motive_n of_o fear_n flow_v from_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n which_o have_v take_v a_o deep_a impression_n in_o they_o and_o their_o faith_n be_v but_o weak_a and_o stagger_a as_o yet_o prevail_v with_o they_o and_o be_v the_o most_o sensible_a motive_n that_o put_v they_o on_o they_o do_v because_o they_o dare_v not_o do_v otherwise_o because_o they_o fear_v god_n justice_n and_o have_v a_o waken_n in_o their_o own_o conscience_n and_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o altogether_o wrong_a for_o the_o respect_n aforesaid_a for_o why_o do_v the_o lord_n denounce_v so_o many_o threaten_n and_o judgement_n but_o for_o this_o and_o that_o all_o these_o shall_v have_v their_o own_o place_n with_o we_o yea_o why_o be_v our_o obedience_n so_o often_o waken_v up_o by_o rod_n cross_n and_o affliction_n if_o this_o sort_n of_o fear_n be_v altogether_o wrong_a but_o as_o faith_n and_o love_n grow_v strong_a by_o little_a and_o little_o they_o cast_v out_o fear_v and_o so_o come_v the_o three_o motive_n even_o that_o acceptable_a motive_n of_o love_n this_o be_v that_o which_o st._n john_n 1.4_o v._o 18._o have_v pâ—â—fect_a love_n cast_v out_o fear_n and_o again_o he_o that_o fear_v be_v not_o make_v perfect_a in_o love_n so_o that_o to_o work_v out_o of_o fear_n do_v not_o argue_v no_o love_n and_o to_o please_v god_n neither_o fear_v he_o nor_o love_v he_o thou_o have_v no_o faith_n and_o so_o be_v in_o a_o miserable_a condition_n a_o five_o mark_n and_o effect_n of_o faith_n be_v spiritual_a peace_n and_o joy_n for_o peace_n be_v justify_v by_o faith_n we_o have_v peace_n with_o god_n through_o jesus_n christ_n our_o lord_n for_o joy_n in_o who_o believe_v we_o rejoice_v with_o joy_n unspeakable_a and_o glorious_a and_o both_o together_o rom._n 15.13_o now_o the_o god_n of_o hope_n fill_v you_o with_o jâ—y_n and_o peace_n in_o believe_v q._n but_o have_v not_o the_o wicked_a and_o the_o natural_a man_n peace_n a._n true_a but_o it_o be_v far_o unlike_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o believer_n and_o of_o the_o godly_a and_o may_v be_v discern_v by_o sundry_a mark_n but_o clear_o and_o plain_o by_o these_o two_o 1._o the_o peace_n of_o the_o believer_n be_v after_o great_a unquietness_n and_o trouble_n and_o much_o hard_a war_n as_o we_o say_v ere_o he_o get_v unto_o it_o as_o we_o see_v in_o paul_n the_o jailor_n the_o convert_v in_o the_o act_n and_o these_o say_n come_v unto_o i_o all_o you_o that_o be_v weary_a and_o lade_v the_o whole_a need_v not_o the_o physician_n but_o they_o that_o be_v sick_a thus_o fare_v it_o with_o many_o yea_o in_o all_o there_o must_v be_v something_o of_o this_o kind_n else_o this_o peace_n and_o christ_n the_o prince_n of_o peace_n and_o purchaser_n of_o this_o peace_n can_v never_o be_v either_o sufficient_o seek_v to_o or_o prize_v but_o the_o natural_a man_n peace_n have_v be_v a_o continual_a peace_n a_o token_n that_o the_o strong_a man_n be_v not_o yet_o cast_v out_o for_o he_o will_v not_o be_v cast_v out_o without_o some_o sensible_a unquietness_n a_o token_n that_o the_o new_a birth_n have_v not_o be_v for_o it_o will_v not_o be_v without_o some_o pain_n q._n but_o may_v not_o even_o a_o natural_a man_n have_v a_o touch_n of_o conscience_n and_o afterward_o fall_v into_o security_n instead_o of_o a_o true_a peace_n a._n he_o may_v and_o therefore_o a_o man_n shall_v look_v how_o his_o peace_n have_v be_v purchase_v how_o he_o carry_v himself_o in_o the_o time_n of_o his_o unquietness_n if_o he_o betake_v he_o to_o wrong_v mean_n and_o by_o they_o do_v strive_v to_o smother_v and_o drive_v away_o his_o unquietness_n and_o not_o to_o the_o right_a mean_n of_o the_o word_n and_o prayer_n to_o cure_v his_o unquietness_n and_o wound_a conscience_n then_o certain_o his_o peace_n be_v not_o a_o right_a peace_n he_o have_v but_o smother_v the_o fire_n which_o will_v afterward_o break_v out_o more_o the_o lord_n mean_n this_o be_v a_o safe_a and_o a_o well_o ground_a peace_n but_o moreover_o for_o the_o further_o clear_v of_o this_o point_n take_v in_o the_o other_o difference_n between_o the_o natural_a man_n peace_n and_o the_o believer_n peace_n the_o natural_a man_n as_o he_o have_v always_o peace_n so_o he_o have_v altogether_o and_o in_o all_o respect_v peace_n but_o the_o believer_n be_v not_o so_o he_o have_v peace_n with_o god_n but_o not_o with_o the_o devil_n peace_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o guiltiness_n of_o sin_n i_o mean_v in_o regard_n of_o the_o main_a battle_n but_o want_v not_o skirmish_n which_o the_o wicked_a have_v not_o for_o he_o have_v a_o tender_a and_o so_o a_o combat_v conscience_n but_o have_v not_o peace_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o corruption_n of_o sin_n for_o the_o
drive_v we_o from_o infidelity_n so_o do_v they_o clear_o testify_v the_o lord_n great_a willingness_n to_o have_v poor_a sinner_n save_v which_o be_v also_o a_o great_a encouragement_n to_o believe_v for_o not_o only_o say_v the_o lord_n i_o will_v not_o the_o death_n of_o a_o sinner_n but_o here_o be_v our_o fault_n about_o this_o point_n of_o the_o lord_n willingness_n to_o save_v we_o we_o will_v not_o rest_v upon_o the_o lord_n reveal_v will_n as_o we_o ought_v to_o do_v but_o run_v to_o his_o secret_a will_n so_o weaken_v our_o confidence_n for_o which_o his_o revealed_z will_n of_o it_o i_o acknowledge_v it_o to_o be_v good_a and_o comfortable_a only_o this_o instead_o of_o all_o i_o will_v say_v unto_o you_o this_o i_o find_v to_o be_v my_o case_n i_o see_v its_o true_a my_o own_o sinfulness_n and_o manifold_a great_a corruption_n as_o also_o my_o gracelessness_n and_o manifold_a want_n and_o be_o humble_v therewith_o but_o as_o for_o to_o be_v humble_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o my_o own_o guiltiness_n though_o i_o see_v it_o to_o be_v very_o great_a i_o must_v confess_v that_o i_o can_v come_v up_o to_o this_o so_o that_o set_v aside_o the_o kind_n or_o degree_n of_o my_o humiliation_n i_o fear_v that_o i_o have_v never_o be_v humble_v at_o all_o a._n this_o be_v a_o case_n that_o many_o of_o god_n child_n have_v be_v exercise_v with_o but_o let_v we_o see_v what_o be_v to_o be_v say_v to_o it_o 1._o thou_o accknowledge_v a_o sight_n and_o some_o sense_n a_o take_n to_o heart_n thy_o own_o corruption_n well_o then_o thou_o have_v some_o interest_n in_o that_o the_o while_o need_v not_o the_o physician_n but_o they_o that_o be_v sick_a thou_o confess_v the_o like_a of_o want_n so_o that_o thou_o have_v interest_n in_o that_o bless_v be_v the_o poor_a in_o spirit_n thou_o be_v in_o some_o better_a case_n than_o those_o of_o landâ—â—a_n well_o then_o that_o thou_o be_v not_o altogether_o behind_o with_o it_o bless_v the_o lord_n for_o what_o thou_o of_o sin_n and_o what_o then_o shall_v thou_o expect_v for_o so_o many_o several_a kind_n of_o sin_n and_o so_o may_v act_n of_o these_o kind_n 1._o for_o so_o often_o profane_v his_o worship_n 2._o so_o often_o profane_v his_o name_n 3._o so_o often_o profane_v his_o sabbath_n 4._o so_o many_o act_n of_o uncleanness_n 5._o and_o which_o be_v worse_o than_o all_o this_o for_o so_o many_o time_n and_o occasion_n neglect_v that_o great_a salvation_n and_o further_o by_o thy_o bypass_a great_a sin_n what_o innumerable_a certain_o innumerable_a sin_n have_v escape_v thou_o yea_o and_o daily_o do_v escape_v thou_o in_o these_o three_o respect_n to_o wit_n of_o thought_n word_n and_o manner_n of_o do_v 1._o the_o heart_n be_v desperate_o wicked_a and_o the_o imagination_n thereof_o be_v be_v in_o regard_n of_o this_o corruption_n as_o one_o make_v the_o comparison_n very_o like_o the_o snail_n that_o defile_v all_o the_o way_n it_o pass_v through_o and_o leave_v a_o slime_n behind_o it_o even_o so_o do_v we_o in_o regard_n of_o this_o pollution_n of_o our_o nature_n defile_v all_o the_o footstep_n we_o walk_v in_o there_o be_v the_o slime_n of_o sin_n to_o be_v see_v in_o our_o best_a action_n so_o that_o in_o respect_n of_o these_o three_o our_o thought_n our_o word_n and_o the_o manner_n of_o our_o do_v we_o sin_v most_o frequent_o which_o be_v most_o pitiful_a now_o since_o any_o of_o these_o deserve_v eternal_a torment_n what_o then_o do_v they_o be_v all_o join_v together_o 3._o consider_v the_o manner_n of_o thy_o sin_n for_o this_o add_v exceed_o to_o the_o greatness_n of_o
sin_n and_o serve_v much_o for_o aggravation_n see_v if_o thou_o have_v not_o sin_v against_o thy_o knowledge_n and_o if_o thou_o have_v do_v so_o thou_o be_v worthy_a of_o and_o shall_v receive_v spirit_n of_o grace_n see_v then_o if_o ever_o thou_o have_v sin_v this_o way_n against_o the_o motion_n of_o god_n spirit_n and_o warning_n of_o thy_o own_o conscience_n that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o thy_o own_o conscience_n have_v suggest_v unto_o thou_o that_o such_o a_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v do_v and_o yet_o thou_o do_v it_o not_o or_o such_o a_o thing_n not_o to_o be_v do_v and_o of_o presumption_n that_o be_v to_o say_v presume_v upon_o the_o lord_n mercy_n many_o sin_n this_o way_n and_o conclude_v with_o themselves_o the_o lord_n be_v merciful_a and_o easy_a to_o be_v upon_o the_o condition_n of_o seek_v and_o of_o fervent_a seek_n that_o therefore_o you_o shall_v want_v they_o consider_v that_o the_o grace_n of_o seek_v he_o promise_v it_o also_o zach._n 12.10_o use_v the_o mean_n even_o so_o be_v it_o in_o thing_n concern_v the_o spiritual_a life_n the_o lord_n will_v no_o more_o work_n without_o mean_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o one_o then_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o other_o to_o pray_v and_o to_o neglect_v to_o use_v the_o mean_n in_o either_o of_o these_o be_v to_o tempt_v god_n and_o to_o put_v he_o to_o the_o work_n of_o wonder_n and_o miracle_n it_o be_v true_a that_o prayer_n be_v the_o main_a thing_n and_o bring_v a_o blessing_n upon_o our_o use_v the_o mean_n use_v we_o the_o mean_n never_o so_o diligent_o unless_o by_o prayer_n we_o get_v the_o lord_n to_o bless_v they_o he_o that_o build_v build_v in_o vain_a but_o on_o the_o other_o side_n as_o our_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n can_v serve_v the_o turn_n without_o the_o lord_n blessing_n and_o work_v of_o his_o spirit_n obtain_v by_o prayer_n so_o the_o lord_n although_o he_o can_v yet_o will_v he_o not_o give_v any_o grace_n without_o we_o use_v the_o mean_n for_o ordinary_o he_o work_v by_o mean_n hence_o be_v it_o work_v out_o your_o salvation_n plough_v up_o the_o fallow_a ground_n of_o your_o heart_n edify_v one_o another_o in_o your_o most_o holy_a faith_n which_o be_v the_o point_n in_o hand_n q._n if_o i_o do_v not_o with_o prayer_n use_v also_o other_o mean_n i_o be_v great_o to_o be_v blame_v but_o i_o use_v they_o according_a to_o my_o power_n i_o frequent_a the_o word_n sacrament_n etc._n etc._n a._n this_o be_v good_a and_o commendable_a to_o use_v the_o mean_n in_o general_a but_o if_o thou_o think_v to_o speed_v in_o that_o great_a work_n thou_o must_v not_o only_o do_v so_o but_o shall_v in_o special_a take_v heed_n to_o this_o point_n to_o wit_n not_o only_o to_o use_v the_o mean_n in_o general_a but_o to_o observe_v what_o be_v the_o proper_a peculiar_a particular_a most_o fit_v and_o convenient_a mean_n of_o that_o grace_n that_o thou_o do_v want_v to_o beget_v and_o entertain_v it_o and_o careful_o to_o be_v meditate_v about_o they_o and_o feed_v upon_o they_o especial_o so_o feed_v yourself_o with_o food_n convenient_a for_o every_o grace_n both_o the_o own_o proper_a &_o peculiar_a mean_n this_o be_v to_o be_v as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v a_o wise_a masterbuilder_n as_o we_o have_v need_n of_o wise_a master_n bvilder_n so_o we_o have_v need_v ourselves_o to_o be_v wise_a bvilder_n one_o that_o be_v build_v a_o house_n or_o wall_n he_o will_v not_o take_v any_o stone_n that_o be_v near_a by_o he_o but_o he_o will_v look_v what_o stone_n will_v fit_v such_o a_o place_n and_o this_o he_o take_v even_o so_o we_o shall_v not_o think_v it_o enough_o in_o the_o work_n of_o the_o work_n of_o our_o own_o salvation_n we_o shall_v not_o think_v it_o enough_o i_o say_v to_o use_v the_o mean_n in_o general_a for_o thus_o want_v of_o wit_n may_v make_v much_o work_n and_o we_o may_v be_v long_o enough_o ere_o we_o come_v to_o the_o point_n but_o we_o shall_v use_v the_o near_a most_o commodious_a and_o most_o convenient_a mean_n for_o the_o beget_n of_o that_o grace_n we_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o for_o example_n feel_v we_o want_v or_o weakness_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n then_o shall_v we_o meditate_v upon_o his_o goodness_n kindness_n bounty_n patience_n pity_n truth_n mercy_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o his_o amiable_a property_n his_o favour_n deliverance_n benefit_n in_o a_o word_n how_o good_a he_o be_v in_o himself_o and_o how_o good_a he_o be_v towards_o thou_o or_o do_v thou_o find_v the_o want_n of_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n or_o of_o reverence_n towards_o he_o meditate_v serious_o of_o the_o glory_n majesty_n of_o god_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o his_o awful_a property_n especial_o if_o thou_o have_v find_v any_o touch_n of_o his_o justice_n so_o find_v we_o that_o the_o work_n of_o humiliation_n be_v but_o small_a and_o weak_a this_o be_v the_o groundwork_n and_o shall_v be_v well_o look_v to_o you_o feed_v upon_o the_o threaten_n and_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n the_o severity_n of_o they_o and_o their_o universality_n how_o none_o escape_v they_o be_v guilty_a of_o the_o same_o sin_n my_o heart_n tremble_v for_o fear_n of_o thou_o and_o i_o be_o afraid_a because_o of_o thy_o judgement_n upon_o the_o fierceness_n of_o god_n anger_n against_o sin_n who_o know_v the_o power_n of_o his_o wrath_n the_o infiniteness_n and_o strange_a extent_n of_o his_o justice_n his_o judgement_n be_v past_o find_v out_o especial_o haste_v thou_o find_v a_o touch_n of_o these_o by_o experience_n and_o to_o come_v to_o the_o point_n in_o hand_n fear_v thou_o the_o want_n or_o feel_v thou_o the_o weakness_n of_o faith_n then_o betake_v thyself_o to_o the_o particular_a mean_n of_o faith_n as_o namely_o the_o precious_a promise_n of_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n the_o sure_a invitation_n to_o accept_v of_o mercy_n the_o pregnant_a passage_n of_o god_n merciful_a nature_n the_o covenant_n oath_n etc._n etc._n this_o be_v proper_o and_o wise_o to_o work_v out_o the_o work_n of_o your_o salvation_n to_o work_v and_o to_o work_v it_o out_o even_o first_o of_o all_o to_o search_v and_o try_v how_o it_o fare_v with_o thou_o in_o regard_n of_o this_o work_n whether_o this_o work_n be_v at_o all_o begin_v in_o we_o or_o not_o if_o the_o ground_n work_v be_v lay_v or_o not_o the_o groundwork_n of_o humiliation_n and_o if_o that_o be_v lay_v how_o far_o be_v it_o go_v on_o whether_o we_o have_v get_v faith_n love_n etc._n etc._n and_o where_o we_o find_v it_o at_o a_o stand_n or_o stay_v there_o i_o say_v we_o shall_v set_v too_o careful_o and_o advance_v the_o work_n than_o we_o shall_v pray_v most_o earnest_o and_o use_v the_o mean_n most_o diligent_o i_o mean_v the_o proper_a and_o particular_a and_o most_o convenient_a mean_n as_o wise_a bvilder_n and_o as_o in_o building_n so_o in_o repair_v our_o spiritual_a building_n we_o be_v to_o take_v the_o same_o course_n for_o what_o we_o have_v get_v before_o the_o stamp_n of_o they_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o slip_v out_o of_o our_o heart_n and_o memory_n and_o we_o be_v not_o busy_a in_o building_n than_o satan_n be_v in_o breach_a and_o therefore_o as_o we_o be_v bvilder_n so_o we_o must_v be_v repairer_n also_o and_o sure_o whosoever_o will_v keep_v this_o course_n of_o diligence_n use_v feed_v and_o meditate_v upon_o the_o particular_a mean_n not_o lean_v to_o they_o but_o upon_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o lord_n spirit_n procure_v by_o prayer_n no_o doubt_n shall_v find_v a_o happy_a progress_n in_o the_o
benefit_n of_o the_o offer_n now_o all_o this_o be_v for_o the_o advantage_n and_o good_a of_o those_o that_o will_v believe_v and_o accept_v of_o the_o offer_n and_o to_o drive_v they_o from_o infidelity_n and_o to_o stir_v they_o up_o to_o believe_v and_o eschew_v the_o let_n thereof_o and_o not_o as_o you_o make_v wrong_a use_n of_o it_o to_o suppress_v your_o faith_n will_v you_o therefore_o be_v so_o foolish_a that_o either_o because_o the_o proclamation_n and_o offer_v of_o mercy_n though_o conceive_v in_o general_a term_n yet_o because_o it_o have_v not_o thy_o name_n express_o set_v down_o in_o it_o to_o think_v that_o therefore_o it_o belong_v not_o to_o thou_o or_o because_o there_o be_v a_o intimation_n make_v that_o many_o through_o their_o own_o default_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o forementioned_a impediment_n shall_v neglect_v the_o opportunity_n and_o loose_v the_o benefit_n of_o the_o offer_n of_o grace_n for_o the_o further_a forewarn_v of_o thou_o and_o those_o who_o will_v believe_v to_o eschew_v these_o impediment_n will_v thou_o therefore_o i_o say_v upon_o groundless_a suspicion_n say_v o_o what_o if_o i_o be_v one_o of_o these_o and_o so_o fly_v back_o and_o fall_v into_o one_o of_o the_o impediment_n or_o shall_v thou_o not_o rather_o shun_v all_o the_o impediment_n and_o this_o of_o keep_v back_o among_o the_o rest_n for_o for_o this_o end_n and_o use_n be_v it_o that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o scripture_n have_v set_v down_o these_o say_n and_o fore-warning_n many_o be_v call_v and_o few_o choose_v etc._n etc._n not_o to_o hinder_v but_o to_o put_v thou_o on_o to_o believe_v and_o indeed_o in_o so_o do_v you_o make_v a_o wrong_n and_o quite_o contrary_a use_n to_o that_o of_o scripture_n the_o promise_n the_o offer_n the_o proclamation_n be_v make_v unto_o all_o who_o god_n do_v call_v for_o the_o benefit_n of_o it_o all_o shall_v not_o enjoy_v through_o their_o own_o default_n and_o they_o be_v of_o two_o sort_n to_o wit_n such_o as_o set_v either_o light_n by_o the_o offer_n and_o promise_n who_o perish_v in_o their_o presumption_n and_o security_n or_o such_o as_o keep_v back_o and_o distrust_v the_o promise_n who_o perish_v through_o desperation_n and_o infidelity_n now_o those_o that_o set_v light_o they_o be_v of_o two_o sort_n some_o lean_v to_o their_o own_o righteovinesse_n and_o will_v not_o quit_v it_o these_o just_o perish_v in_o their_o presumption_n 2._o other_o that_o will_v not_o leave_v their_o sin_n and_o pleasure_n which_o be_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o offer_n matth._n 11._o will_v not_o take_v on_o christ_n yoke_n these_o perish_v in_o their_o security_n as_o for_o those_o that_o keep_v back_o they_o be_v such_o who_o through_o satan_n and_o their_o own_o heart_n be_v hold_v back_o from_o believe_v and_o these_o perish_v through_o despair_n see_v then_o thou_o be_v not_o one_o that_o do_v set_v light_n by_o the_o promise_n and_o offer_v for_o thou_o renounce_v thy_o own_o righteousness_n and_o do_v or_o will_v renounce_v thy_o fin_n and_o pleasure_n regard_v not_o iniquity_n in_o thy_o heart_n desire_v to_o fear_v his_o name_n neh._n 1._o then_o see_v thou_o be_v not_o one_o that_o keep_v back_o yield_v not_o to_o satan_n and_o thy_o own_o bad_a heart_n of_o unbelief_n remember_v the_o say_n of_o the_o apostle_n let_v we_o fear_v lest_o a_o inward_o call_v but_o the_o promise_n itself_o or_o the_o offer_n of_o the_o promise_n belong_v to_o all_o that_o be_v outward_o call_v in_o a_o word_n thou_o fear_v that_o the_o promise_n belong_v not_o to_o thou_o but_o the_o apostle_n bid_v thou_o fear_v lest_o a_o promise_n be_v leave_v unto_o thou_o or_o belong_v to_o thou_o that_o thou_o come_v short_a of_o it_o through_o unbelief_n heb._n
