unto_o you_o that_o you_o have_v nothing_o to_o object_v why_o it_o do_v not_o belong_v particular_o to_o you_o and_o whether_o you_o have_v not_o see_v a_o readiness_n and_o willingness_n in_o christ_n to_o receive_v and_o embrace_v you_o as_o his_o belove_a spouse_n and_o whether_o you_o have_v not_o thereupon_o consent_v and_o resolve_v to_o take_v christ_n and_o to_o give_v up_o yourself_o to_o he_o and_o whether_o you_o have_v not_o since_o that_o find_v in_o your_o heart_n a_o love_n to_o christ_n and_o his_o law_n and_o a_o readiness_n and_o willingness_n to_o do_v your_o duty_n to_o god_n as_o a_o child_n to_o his_o father_n free_o without_o fear_n of_o hell_n or_o hope_v of_o heaven_n now_o tell_v i_o i_o pray_v you_o true_o whether_o you_o have_v not_o find_v these_o thing_n in_o you_o neo._n yea_o indeed_o i_o hope_v i_o have_v in_o some_o measure_n evan._n why_o then_o i_o may_v say_v with_o the_o apostle_n john_n you_o be_v of_o the_o truth_n and_o may_v assure_v or_o persuade_v your_o heart_n before_o god_n 3.19_o wherefore_o say_v christ_n to_o you_o i_o say_v unto_o thou_o that_o thy_o many_o sin_n be_v forgive_v thou_o 7.47_o for_o thou_o faith_n and_o therefore_o he_o be_v accept_v of_o god_n and_o justify_v and_o shall_v certain_o be_v save_v and_o so_o make_v they_o a_o evidence_n of_o his_o believe_v or_o the_o ground_n of_o his_o do_v the_o latter_a then_o may_v he_o be_v sure_a that_o they_o be_v wrong_a and_o false_a evidence_n nom._n then_o true_o sir_n i_o have_v not_o as_o yet_o any_o right_a and_o true_a evidence_n of_o faith_n evan._n if_o you_o have_v not_o then_o as_o i_o tell_v you_o it_o be_v time_n to_o believe_v that_o so_o you_o may_v have_v they_o that_o be_v right_a and_o true_a neo._n but_o sir_n i_o union_n and_o communion_n that_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n have_v with_o god_n at_o first_o be_v break_v off_o god_n and_o man_n soul_n be_v part_v and_o it_o be_v in_o a_o restless_a condition_n howbeit_o the_o lord_n have_v seat_v in_o man_n soul_n a_o certain_a character_n of_o himself_o the_o soul_n be_v thereby_o make_v to_o re-aspire_a towards_o that_o summum_fw-la bonum_fw-la that_o content_a with_o what_o be_v most_o repugnant_a to_o its_o desire_n as_o with_o hunger_n cold_a nakedness_n yea_o and_o with_o death_n itself_o such_o be_v the_o wonderful_a work_n of_o the_o heart_n quiet_a and_o rest_n in_o god_n so_o that_o although_o such_o a_o man_n sense_n be_v still_o exercise_v in_o and_o upon_o their_o proper_a object_n yet_o be_v not_o his_o life_n sensual_a for_o his_o heart_n take_v no_o contentment_n from_o any_o such_o exercise_n but_o be_v still_o for_o the_o most_o part_n exercise_v in_o a_o more_o transcendent_a communion_n even_o with_o god_n in_o christ_n so_o that_o he_o use_v the_o world_n and_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n as_o though_o he_o use_v they_o not_o and_o receive_v no_o cordial_a contentment_n from_o any_o sensual_a exercise_n whatsoever_o and_o that_o because_o his_o heart_n be_v withdraw_v from_o they_o which_o withdraw_v of_o the_o heart_n be_v not_o unapt_o point_v at_o in_o the_o speech_n of_o the_o spouse_n cant._n 5.2_o i_o sleep_v say_v she_o but_o my_o heart_n wake_v so_o that_o it_o may_v be_v say_v that_o such_o a_o man_n he_o be_v sleep_v look_a hear_v taste_v eat_a drink_v feast_v etc._n etc._n but_o his_o heart_n be_v withdraw_v and_o be_v rejoice_v in_o god_n his_o saviour_n and_o his_o soul_n be_v magnify_v the_o lord_n so_o that_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o sensual_a delight_n his_o heart_n and_o secret_o say_v i_o but_o my_o happiness_n be_v not_o here_o nom._n but_o sir_n i_o pray_v you_o why_o do_v you_o call_v rational_a and_o religious_a exercise_n a_o wilderness_n evan._n for_o two_o reason_n first_o because_o that_o as_o the_o child_n of_o israel_n when_o they_o be_v get_v out_o of_o egypt_n do_v yet_o wander_v many_o year_n in_o the_o wilderness_n before_o they_o come_v into_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n even_o so_o do_v many_o man_n wander_v long_o in_o rational_a and_o religious_a exercise_n after_o they_o have_v leave_v a_o sensual_a life_n before_o they_o come_v to_o rest_v in_o god_n whereof_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n be_v a_o type_n second_o because_o as_o in_o a_o wilderness_n man_n often_o lose_v themselves_o and_o can_v find_v no_o way_n out_o but_o suppose_v after_o long_a travel_n that_o they_o be_v near_o the_o place_n whither_o they_o will_v go_v be_v in_o truth_n further_o off_o even_o so_o fare_v it_o with_o many_o yea_o with_o all_o such_o as_o walk_v in_o the_o way_n of_o reason_n they_o lose_v themselves_o in_o the_o wood_n and_o bush_n of_o their_o work_n and_o do_n so_o that_o the_o long_o they_o travel_v the_o further_o they_o be_v from_o god_n and_o true_a rest_n in_o he_o nom._n but_o sir_n you_o know_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v endue_v we_o with_o reasonable_a soul_n will_v you_o not_o then_o have_v we_o to_o make_v use_n of_o our_o reason_n evan._n i_o pray_v you_o do_v not_o mistake_v i_o i_o do_v not_o contemn_v nor_o despise_v the_o use_n of_o reason_n only_o i_o will_v not_o have_v you_o to_o establish_v it_o to_o the_o chief_a good_a but_o i_o will_v have_v you_o to_o keep_v it_o under_o so_o that_o if_o with_o hagar_n it_o attempt_v to_o bear_v rule_n and_o lord_n it_o over_o your_o faith_n then_o will_v i_o divine_a and_o press_v hard_a to_o know_v god_n by_o powerful_a experience_n and_o though_o your_o knowledge_n be_v great_a and_o your_o obedience_n surpass_v many_o yet_o will_v i_o have_v you_o to_o be_v true_o nullify_v annihilate_v and_o make_v nothing_o and_o become_v fool_n in_o all_o fleshly_a wisdom_n and_o glory_n in_o nothing_o but_o only_o in_o the_o lord_n and_o i_o will_v have_v you_o with_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n sweet_o to_o behold_v all_o thing_n extract_v out_o of_o one_o thing_n &_o in_o one_o to_o see_v all_o in_o a_o word_n i_o will_v have_v in_o you_o a_o most_o profound_a silence_n contemn_v all_o curious_a question_n and_o discourse_n and_o to_o ponder_v much_o in_o your_o heart_n but_o prate_v little_a with_o your_o tongue_n 1.10_o be_v swift_a to_o hear_v consider_v absolute_o but_o respective_o it_o do_v not_o consist_v in_o a_o go_n out_o of_o either_o but_o in_o a_o right_a use_n of_o both_o and_o now_o for_o a_o conclusion_n let_v i_o tell_v you_o when_o any_o of_o your_o soul_n shall_v thus_o forget_v she_o own_o people_n 55.10.11_o and_o her_o father_n house_n christ_n her_o king_n shall_v so_o desire_v her_o beauty_n and_o be_v so_o much_o in_o love_n with_o she_o that_o like_o a_o loadstone_n this_o love_n of_o he_o shall_v draw_v the_o soul_n in_o pure_a desire_n to_o he_o again_o and_o then_o as_o the_o hart_n pant_v after_o the_o river_n of_o water_n 25._o so_o will_v your_o soul_n pant_v after_o god_n yea_o then_o will_v your_o soul_n be_v so_o ravish_v with_o desire_n and_o so_o sick_a of_o love_n that_o it_o will_v be_v manifest_a by_o your_o seek_v he_o who_o your_o soul_n love_v 3.1_o and_o so_o shall_v your_o soul_n come_v to_o have_v a_o real_a rest_n in_o god_n and_o according_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o your_o faith_n be_v fill_v with_o joy_n unspeakable_a and_o glorious_a and_o how_o can_v it_o be_v otherwise_o when_o your_o soul_n shall_v real_o communicate_v with_o god_n and_o by_o faith_n have_v a_o true_a taste_n and_o by_o the_o spirit_n have_v a_o sure_a earnest_n of_o all_o heavenly_a preferment_n have_v as_o it_o be_v one_o foot_n in_o heaven_n whilst_o you_o live_v upon_o earth_n o_o than_o they_o will_v be_v guide_v by_o the_o word_n of_o truth_n and_o all_o seem_v to_o bring_v scripture_n which_o indeed_o be_v but_o one_o as_o god_n be_v but_o one_o yet_o by_o reason_n of_o their_o several_a construction_n and_o interpretation_n of_o scripture_n and_o conceit_n of_o their_o own_o humane_a wisdom_n they_o be_v many_o and_o be_v there_o not_o other_o of_o this_o sort_n of_o man_n that_o be_v ready_a to_o embrace_v any_o new_a way_n of_o worship_n especial_o if_o it_o come_v under_o the_o cloak_n of_o scripture_n learning_n and_o have_v a_o show_n of_o truth_n found_v upon_o the_o letter_n of_o the_o bible_n and_o seem_v to_o be_v more_o zealous_a and_o devout_a than_o their_o former_a way_n special_o if_o the_o teacher_n of_o that_o new_a way_n can_v but_o frame_v a_o sad_a and_o demure_a countenance_n and_o with_o a_o grace_n lift_v up_o his_o head_n and_o his_o eye_n towards_o heaven_n with_o some_o strong_a groan_n in_o declare_v of_o his_o new_o conceive_a opinion_n and_o that_o he_o frequent_o use_v this_o phrase_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n o_o than_o these_o man_n be_v by_o and_o by_o of_o another_o opinion_n suppose_v to_o themselves_o that_o god_n have_v make_v know_v some_o far_a truth_n to_o they_o for_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o blindness_n of_o their_o understanding_n they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o reach_v any_o supernatural_a truth_n although_o they_o do_v by_o literal_a learning_n and_o clerk-like_a cunning_n dive_v never_o so_o deep_a into_o the_o scripture_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o entertain_v any_o form_n of_o religious_a exercise_n as_o shall_v be_v suggest_v unto_o they_o and_o be_v there_o not_o a_o three_o sort_n much_o like_o to_o these_o man_n that_o be_v excessive_a and_o mutable_a in_o the_o performance_n of_o religious_a exercise_n sure_o saint_n paul_n do_v perceive_v that_o this_o be_v the_o very_a god_n of_o some_o man_n in_o his_o time_n and_o therefore_o he_o will_v timothy_n to_o instruct_v other_o that_o bodily_a exercise_n profit_v little_a 4.8_o or_o as_o some_o read_v it_o nothing_o at_o all_o and_o do_v oppose_v thereunto_o godliness_n as_o be_v another_o thing_n then_o establish_v a_o rest_n to_o their_o soul_n because_o they_o want_v rest_n in_o god_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o their_o peace_n and_o rest_n be_v up_o and_o down_o according_a to_o their_o work_n better_a or_o worse_o so_o many_o chapter_n must_v be_v read_v and_o so_o many_o sermon_n must_v be_v hear_v and_o so_o many_o time_n must_v pray_v in_o one_o day_n and_o so_o many_o day_n in_o the_o week_n or_o in_o the_o year_n they_o must_v fast_o etc._n etc._n or_o else_o their_o soul_n can_v have_v no_o rest_n but_o mistake_v i_o not_o i_o pray_v in_o imagine_v that_o i_o speak_v against_o the_o do_n of_o these_o thing_n for_o i_o do_v they_o all_o myself_o but_o against_o rest_v in_o the_o do_n of_o they_o the_o which_o i_o desire_v not_o to_o do_v and_o thus_o you_o see_v that_o man_n blind_a understanding_n do_v not_o only_o present_a unto_o the_o sensual_a appetite_n sensual_a object_n but_o also_o to_o the_o rational_a appetite_n rational_a object_n so_o that_o man_n poor_a soul_n be_v not_o only_o keep_v from_o rest_n in_o god_n by_o mean_n of_o sensuality_n but_o also_o by_o mean_n of_o formality_n if_o satan_n can_v keep_v we_o from_o seek_v rest_n in_o god_n by_o feede_v our_o sense_n with_o our_o mother_n evahs_n apple_n than_o he_o set_v we_o to_o seek_v he_o in_o away_o where_o we_o shall_v never_o find_v he_o if_o he_o can_v do_v it_o more_o gross_o than_o he_o attempt_v to_o do_v it_o more_o close_o nom._n but_o sir_n i_o be_o persuade_v that_o many_o man_n that_o be_v so_o religious_o exercise_v and_o do_v perform_v such_o duty_n as_o you_o have_v mention_v do_v find_v true_a rest_n for_o their_o soul_n in_o god_n evan._n ineeed_o i_o be_o persuade_v there_o be_v some_o man_n that_o be_v careful_a to_o perform_v such_o duty_n in_o obedience_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n as_o conceive_v they_o to_o be_v the_o way_n wherein_o he_o be_v accustom_v to_o meet_v his_o people_n and_o give_v they_o a_o extraordinary_a visit_n as_o also_o conceive_v they_o to_o be_v the_o mean_n whereby_o he_o do_v ordinary_o beget_v and_o increase_v faith_n whereby_o they_o be_v enable_v to_o draw_v near_o to_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o so_o to_o have_v peace_n and_o rest_n in_o he_o and_o therefore_o if_o they_o do_v omit_v any_o of_o these_o duty_n when_o they_o conceive_v that_o god_n call_v they_o thereunto_o they_o be_v trouble_v in_o their_o mind_n and_o vex_v at_o themselves_o for_o be_v disobedient_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o for_o miss_v his_o kind_a visit_n and_o omit_v the_o mean_n of_o increase_v their_o faith_n now_o such_o man_n as_o these_o may_v and_o doubtless_o do_v find_v true_a rest_n to_o their_o soul_n in_o god_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o religious_a exercise_n but_o alas_o i_o fear_v i_o that_o the_o most_o part_n of_o such_o man_n as_o be_v so_o religious_o exercise_v and_o be_v of_o such_o disposition_n as_o i_o have_v show_v do_v rather_o conceive_v that_o as_o they_o have_v offend_v and_o displease_v god_n by_o their_o former_a disobedience_n so_o they_o must_v pacify_v and_o please_v he_o by_o their_o future_a obedience_n and_o therefore_o they_o be_v careful_a to_o exercise_v themselves_o in_o this_o way_n of_o duty_n and_o that_o way_n of_o worship_n and_o all_o to_o that_o end_n yea_o and_o they_o conceive_v that_o they_o have_v corrupt_v defile_v and_o pollute_a themselves_o by_o their_o fall_n into_o sin_n they_o must_v also_o purge_v cleanse_v and_o purify_v themselves_o by_o rise_v out_o of_o sin_n and_o walk_v in_o new_a obedience_n and_o so_o all_o the_o good_a they_o do_v and_o all_o the_o evil_a they_o eschew_v be_v to_o pacify_v god_n and_o appease_v their_o own_o conscience_n and_o if_o they_o seek_v rest_n to_o their_o soul_n this_o the_o only_a true_a rest_n for_o man_n soul_n evan._n ay_o there_o be_v the_o true_a rest_n indeed_o there_o be_v that_o rest_n which_o david_n invite_v his_o soul_n unto_o when_o he_o say_v 116.7_o return_v unto_o thy_o rest_n o_o my_o soul_n for_o we_o which_o have_v believe_v have_v enter_v into_o his_o rest_n say_v the_o author_n to_o the_o hebrew_n and_o come_v unto_o i_o 4.3_o say_v
