but_o the_o alone_a desire_n of_o anhappy_a and_o well-grounded_a peace_n may_v put_v spirit_n and_o vigour_n into_o the_o sword_n of_o war_n for_o ourselves_o that_o we_o may_v in_o all_o matter_n of_o duty_n and_o service_n deny_v ourselves_o it_o be_v a_o singular_a mercy_n of_o christ_n unto_o we_o so_o to_o order_v the_o business_n of_o his_o church_n as_o that_o the_o reverence_n of_o the_o person_n and_o function_n of_o his_o minister_n shall_v be_v as_o it_o be_v complicate_v and_o link_v up_o together_o with_o his_o own_o honour_n according_a as_o he_o have_v say_v he_o that_o hear_v you_o hear_v i_o and_o he_o that_o despise_v you_o despise_v i_o whosoever_o entertain_v honourable_a thought_n of_o christ_n by_o our_o ministry_n can_v but_o therewithal_o reverence_v we_o and_o esteem_v the_o foot_n of_o those_o beautiful_a who_o discover_v such_o glad_a tiding_n unto_o they_o and_o it_o be_v but_o a_o counterfeit_n and_o hypocritical_a pretence_n of_o zeal_n for_o piety_n which_o be_v accompany_v with_o any_o low_a thought_n or_o contemptuous_a undervalue_n of_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o galathian_n receive_v paul_n as_o a_o angel_n of_o god_n yea_o as_o christ_n himself_o and_o will_v have_v pluck_v out_o their_o own_o eye_n to_o have_v give_v they_o unto_o he_o but_o though_o christ_n have_v join_v these_o thing_n together_o yet_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n in_o all_o our_o aim_n and_o desire_n to_o abstract_n and_o prescinde_a our_o master_n interest_n from_o our_o own_o reward_n to_o seek_v christ_n honour_n alone_o and_o to_o leave_v unto_o he_o the_o care_n of_o we_o i_o dare_v not_o think_v or_o suspect_v that_o in_o any_o of_o our_o humble_a advice_n and_o petition_n to_o the_o honourable_a house_n of_o parliament_n we_o have_v at_o all_o pursue_v any_o private_a interest_n of_o our_o own_o but_o only_o that_o service_n which_o we_o be_v persuade_v christ_n have_v entrust_v his_o minister_n withal_o which_o i_o be_o full_o assure_v have_v be_v the_o only_a scope_n we_o have_v aim_v at_o yet_o because_o some_o be_v jealous_a with_o a_o jealousy_n of_o suspicion_n that_o it_o be_v so_o let_v we_o ourselves_o also_o be_v jealous_a with_o a_o jealousy_n of_o fear_n and_o caution_n that_o it_o may_v not_o be_v so_o and_o let_v we_o pray_v for_o humble_a and_o self-denying_a heart_n that_o god_n will_v enable_v we_o to_o pass_v through_o evil_a report_n and_o through_o good_a report_n and_o will_v furnish_v we_o with_o such_o spiritual_a meekness_n and_o wisdom_n as_o that_o we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o make_v it_o manifest_a to_o the_o conscience_n of_o all_o even_o of_o enemy_n themselves_o that_o as_o we_o preach_v not_o ourselves_o but_o christ_n jesus_n the_o lord_n so_o we_o seek_v not_o ourselves_o or_o our_o own_o thing_n but_o the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n nor_o affect_v dominion_n over_o the_o people_n of_o god_n but_o will_v only_o be_v helper_n of_o their_o joy_n and_o furtherer_n of_o their_o salvation_n and_o servant_n unto_o they_o for_o jesus_n sake_n i_o have_v do_v with_o the_o first_o part_n of_o my_o exhortation_n to_o stir_v we_o up_o in_o behalf_n of_o ourselves_o and_o other_o to_o pray_v unto_o god_n to_o bestow_v this_o excellent_a grace_n upon_o all_o who_o be_v entrust_v in_o public_a service_n unto_o which_o have_v i_o soon_o think_v of_o it_o i_o will_v have_v subjoin_v alike_a exhortation_n unto_o every_o one_o of_o we_o in_o our_o ministry_n to_o press_v and_o urge_v the_o practice_n of_o this_o duty_n upon_o our_o people_n especial_o when_o we_o preach_v before_o those_o who_o be_v call_v unto_o public_a trust_n and_o in_o who_o hand_n the_o manage_n of_o great_a and_o common_a affair_n be_v deposit_v for_o certain_o self-seeker_n can_v never_o serve_v the_o public_a with_o fidelity_n i_o now_o proceed_v unto_o my_o last_o part_n of_o my_o application_n viz._n a_o exhortation_n unto_o we_o ourselves_o to_o practice_v this_o heavenly_a duty_n wherein_o i_o can_v but_o offer_v a_o skeleton_n and_o some_o naked_a lineament_n of_o what_o may_v have_v be_v more_o full_o enlarge_v i_o shall_v branch_v this_o exhortation_n likewise_o into_o two_o part_n one_o concerning_o our_o general_a ministry_n the_o other_o concerning_o our_o particular_a relation_n unto_o the_o service_n of_o this_o assembly_n for_o the_o former_a i_o shall_v need_v say_v nothing_o of_o the_o three_o way_n of_o self-denial_n there_o be_v none_o i_o presume_v either_o here_o or_o in_o our_o ministry_n who_o so_o value_v their_o own_o grace_n as_o to_o seek_v righteousness_n from_o they_o or_o to_o hang_v salvation_n upon_o they_o of_o the_o two_o former_a let_v i_o crave_v leave_n to_o offer_v a_o word_n or_o two_o first_o that_o we_o will_v study_v to_o deny_v ourselves_o in_o those_o more_o peculiar_a and_o special_a fail_n which_o we_o be_v subject_a unto_o as_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n many_o particular_n may_v be_v single_v out_o i_o shall_v name_v but_o two_o at_o this_o time_n namely_o affection_n of_o new_a light_n in_o doctrine_n and_o of_o new_a sense_n and_o exposition_n of_o scripture_n for_o the_o former_a
