to_o think_v so_o as_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o prophet_n malachy_n 3.14_o mal._n 3.14_o it_o be_v lose_v labour_n to_o serve_v the_o lord_n and_o what_o good_a come_v there_o by_o serve_v of_o god_n so_o in_o these_o day_n it_o be_v clear_a man_n think_v it_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o be_v religious_a to_o live_v godly_a and_o in_o all_o thing_n to_o labour_n to_o keep_v faith_n and_o a_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o faith_n not_o to_o trust_v unto_o that_o which_o the_o eye_n see_v but_o which_o the_o word_n offer_v and_o promise_v this_o one_o thing_n therefore_o be_v lack_v in_o we_o that_o we_o have_v not_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o we_o judge_v according_a to_o the_o eye_n and_o sense_n of_o the_o flesh_n we_o must_v not_o doubt_v therefore_o but_o if_o we_o sometime_o summer_n this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o all_o god_n child_n as_o david_n joseph_n hezekias_n job_n etc._n etc._n and_o continual_a experience_n proove_v this_o that_o the_o estate_n of_o god_n child_n ebb_n and_o flow_v have_v their_o change_n when_o as_o they_o walk_v direct_o and_o upright_o with_o god_n than_o they_o have_v peace_n and_o comfort_n but_o when_o that_o they_o start_v aside_o and_o commit_v some_o wicked_a sin_n than_o they_o find_v torment_n of_o conscience_n and_o great_a grief_n of_o mind_n this_o show_v we_o what_o be_v the_o state_n and_o condition_n of_o the_o child_n of_o god_n in_o this_o life_n he_o be_v not_o so_o here_o sanctify_v as_o that_o he_o feel_v no_o corruption_n of_o sin_n to_o hang_v about_o he_o but_o rather_o such_o a_o one_o as_o feel_v the_o burden_n of_o his_o corruption_n hinder_v he_o in_o this_o his_o course_n of_o christianity_n under_o which_o he_o grievous_o sigh_n and_o groan_n labour_v by_o all_o good_a mean_n to_o be_v disburden_v indeed_o it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o great_a comfort_n to_o feel_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n as_o faith_n love_n etc._n etc._n but_o no_o child_n of_o god_n can_v always_o feel_v the_o comfort_n of_o grace_n but_o as_o fire_v that_o be_v rake_v up_o in_o the_o ash_n it_o be_v hide_v from_o his_o feel_n for_o a_o time_n but_o at_o the_o length_n it_o will_v break_v out_o again_o to_o his_o great_a joy_n and_o comfort_n well_o see_v this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o god_n child_n here_o they_o find_v great_a peace_n and_o comfort_n sometime_o grief_n and_o sorrow_n let_v we_o not_o be_v to_o much_o discourage_v but_o rather_o when_o as_o by_o our_o fall_n and_o slip_n we_o have_v weaken_v our_o comfort_n let_v we_o entreat_v the_o lord_n to_o renew_v our_o comfort_n again_o let_v we_o do_v as_o a_o poor_a traveller_n who_o if_o he_o miss_v his_o way_n and_o go_v out_o of_o it_o he_o will_v hasten_v into_o it_o again_o and_o trudge_v and_o pluck_v up_o his_o heel_n with_o all_o speed_n to_o recover_v that_o which_o he_o have_v lose_v so_o let_v we_o when_o we_o have_v sin_v and_o go_v out_o of_o the_o way_n make_v haste_n to_o return_v and_o as_o a_o man_n that_o have_v be_v long_o sick_a and_o grow_v feeble_a and_o weak_a will_v use_v all_o mean_n to_o gather_v up_o his_o crumb_n and_o to_o recover_v his_o former_a strength_n again_o so_o let_v we_o when_o we_o have_v lose_v some_o part_n of_o our_o comfort_n and_o heavenly_a strength_n let_v we_o i_o say_v use_v all_o bless_a mean_n to_o recover_v our_o former_a health_n and_o comfort_n again_o let_v we_o pray_v much_o read_v much_o hear_v much_o and_o meditate_v much_o let_v we_o bewail_v our_o former_a sloth_n and_o make_v our_o step_n more_o upright_o in_o time_n to_o come_v to_o god_n kingdom_n etc._n etc._n heart_n a_o purpose_n not_o to_o sin_n the_o mark_n of_o a_o sanctify_a heart_n note_v here_o that_o it_o be_v the_o special_a fruit_n and_o mark_n of_o a_o sanctify_a heart_n and_o of_o the_o mind_n renew_v to_o have_v a_o purpose_n not_o to_o sin_n but_o in_o all_o thing_n to_o please_v god_n and_o to_o do_v his_o will_n to_o walk_v with_o god_n in_o all_o his_o commandment_n whereas_o on_o the_o contrary_a 50.17_o psal_n 50.17_o when_o a_o man_n have_v a_o purpose_n to_o live_v in_o any_o know_a sin_n it_o be_v a_o fearful_a and_o a_o manifest_a sign_n of_o great_a number_n to_o be_v such_o as_o never_o have_v the_o true_a work_n of_o sanctification_n wrought_v in_o they_o their_o heart_n be_v not_o sanctify_v and_o their_o mind_n be_v not_o renew_v why_o namely_o because_o they_o want_v this_o mark_n and_o fruit_n of_o a_o sanctify_a heart_n for_o though_o they_o hear_v of_o their_o sin_n be_v tell_v of_o they_o and_o the_o fearful_a judgement_n of_o god_n denounce_v against_o they_o yet_o they_o will_v not_o leave_v they_o nor_o forsake_v they_o but_o will_v continue_v in_o they_o yea_o though_o it_o cost_v they_o the_o loss_n of_o god_n
nation_n that_o forget_v god_n for_o see_v they_o have_v a_o heart_n of_o iron_n and_o as_o the_o prophet_n say_v a_o brazen_a forehead_n they_o must_v be_v terrify_v with_o the_o thundering_n of_o the_o law_n that_o be_v they_o must_v be_v bring_v to_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n judgement_n and_o fill_v with_o the_o terror_n of_o death_n as_o it_o happen_v to_o the_o people_n of_o israel_n at_o the_o mount_n sina_n when_o the_o law_n be_v publish_v by_o the_o voice_n of_o the_o lord_n but_o they_o that_o have_v a_o fleshy_a heart_n that_o be_v to_o say_v a_o soft_a and_o tender_a hart_n may_v not_o be_v kill_v with_o the_o law_n but_o reviue_v &_o raise_v up_o with_o another_o kind_n of_o doctrine_n which_o the_o holy_a ghost_n call_v here_o laughter_n and_o joy_n that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o gospel_n this_o be_v the_o right_a divide_n of_o the_o word_n which_o saint_n paul_n speak_v of_o to_o preach_v and_o set_v forth_o to_o the_o impenitent_a and_o hard_a heart_a the_o threaten_n of_o the_o law_n the_o wrath_n of_o god_n against_o sin_n and_o the_o terror_n of_o god_n judgement_n but_o to_o the_o weak_a and_o break_a heart_a the_o sweet_a comfort_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o they_o that_o be_v secure_a and_o without_o fear_n may_v now_o learn_v to_o fear_v the_o lord_n and_o they_o that_o be_v to_o much_o oppress_v with_o fear_n may_v be_v of_o good_a comfort_n and_o now_o begin_v to_o trust_v in_o the_o lord_n this_o difference_n between_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n be_v well_o know_v but_o by_o experience_n and_o practice_v it_o be_v not_o so_o well_o know_v for_o our_o infirmity_n be_v such_o that_o we_o be_v rather_o touch_v with_o the_o sense_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n then_o with_o laughter_n and_o joy_n that_o be_v the_o sweet_a comfort_n and_o joyful_a promise_n of_o gospel_n and_o here_o also_o we_o find_v satan_n to_o be_v our_o deadly_a adversary_n which_o most_o subtle_o dispute_v with_o we_o touch_v the_o law_n and_o use_v such_o argument_n as_o we_o can_v deny_v for_o when_o he_o lay_v unto_o we_o our_o sin_n we_o be_v constrain_v to_o confess_v â—hem_fw-mi which_o albeit_o sometime_o we_o cover_v they_o before_o man_n our_o conscience_n as_o a_o thousand_o witness_n pronounce_v against_o we_o and_o will_v not_o suffer_v we_o to_o forget_v they_o or_o hide_v they_o whereof_o sometime_o arise_v also_o a_o indeed_o practice_v speculation_n be_v a_o naked_a knowledge_n without_o experience_n &_o practice_v we_o shall_v right_o discern_v between_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n also_o between_o the_o disciple_n of_o the_o law_n and_o of_o the_o gospel_n and_o beat_v back_o satan_n with_o this_o answer_n practice_v speculation_n be_v a_o naked_a knowledge_n without_o experience_n &_o practice_v that_o like_o a_o lie_a spirit_n he_o seek_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o blind_v and_o deceive_v the_o heart_n with_o falsehood_n and_o lie_n for_o where_o as_o hard_a and_o stony_a heart_n be_v those_o he_o do_v not_o kill_v or_o terrify_v but_o flatter_v and_o fill_v they_o with_o hope_n and_o fair_a promise_n which_o do_v not_o pertain_v to_o such_o heartâ—_n contrariwise_o whereas_o such_o tendeâ—_n and_o timorous_a heart_n be_v as_o be_v too_o much_o terrify_v already_o and_o therefore_o shall_v be_v confirm_v and_o raise_v up_o with_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n those_o heart_n satan_n most_o of_o all_o not_o only_o go_v about_o to_o afflict_v and_o terrify_v but_o to_o beat_v they_o down_o also_o to_o utter_v discomfort_n wherefore_o the_o christian_a man_n must_v learn_v and_o labour_n by_o feeling_n and_o practice_v to_o make_v this_o distinction_n in_o his_o heart_n and_o say_v unto_o satan_n away_o from_o i_o satan_n with_o thy_o lie_n when_o i_o be_o void_a of_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n secure_a and_o hard_a heart_a then_o come_v and_o plead_v the_o law_n against_o i_o then_o will_v i_o hear_v thou_o for_o then_o that_o be_v the_o time_n to_o teach_v the_o law_n but_o since_o thou_o come_v now_o unto_o i_o with_o the_o law_n satan_n a_o good_a answer_n to_o be_v give_v to_o satan_n whereas_o my_o heart_n be_v terrify_v already_o with_o thing_n before_o never_o so_o often_o the_o cause_n be_v this_o that_o albeit_o heaven_n be_v we_o and_o wide_a open_a for_o we_o yet_o such_o be_v our_o nature_n and_o such_o be_v our_o infirmity_n that_o all_o this_o do_v not_o make_v we_o so_o joyful_a as_o the_o gape_a gulf_n and_o horror_n of_o hell_n do_v terrify_v we_o so_o that_o our_o cogitation_n of_o our_o sin_n do_v more_o afflict_v we_o than_o all_o the_o teach_n and_o preach_v of_o the_o merit_n of_o christ_n can_v comfort_v us._n therefore_o we_o must_v earnest_o endeavour_n to_o learn_v this_o practice_n or_o at_o the_o least_o to_o attain_v to_o some_o knowledge_n thereof_o and_o raise_v up_o ourselves_o with_o these_o word_n that_o the_o gospel_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o laughter_n and_o joy_n which_o proper_o pertain_v to_o the_o captive_n that_o be_v to_o those_o that_o feel_v the_o captivity_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n to_o the_o fleshy_a and_o tender_a heart_a terrify_v with_o the_o feel_n of_o the_o wrath_n and_o judgement_n of_o god_n these_o be_v the_o disciple_n in_o who_o heart_n shall_v be_v plant_v laughter_n and_o joy_n and_o which_o only_o shall_v hear_v the_o voice_n of_o joy_n and_o gladness_n in_o the_o tabernacle_n of_o the_o righteous_a and_o that_o by_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o this_o verse_n set_v forth_o for_o it_o do_v signify_v that_o this_o to_o move_v god_n to_o mercy_n the_o break_a heart_n for_o the_o grief_n of_o sin_n and_o love_n of_o righteousness_n how_o ever_o the_o world_n despise_v it_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o despise_v it_o
