and_o of_o his_o mischief_n which_o he_o practise_v against_o the_o miserable_a sheep_n to_o dasle_n his_o eye_n that_o he_o may_v not_o know_v any_o more_o his_o own_o shepeheard_n &_o under_o a_o pretence_n of_o christ_n to_o lead_v a_o man_n to_o moses_n dispute_v as_o much_o of_o christ_n as_o he_o have_v accustom_v to_o do_v before_o of_o moses_n wherefore_o we_o have_v need_n of_o a_o strong_a &_o firm_a faith_n that_o we_o may_v believe_v these_o thing_n to_o be_v true_a when_o a_o man_n himself_o must_v dispute_v even_o against_o himself_o for_o the_o sense_n be_v vehement_a of_o itself_o whereunto_o the_o devil_n also_o come_v marvellous_o amplify_a sin_n &_o terror_n the_o greatness_n and_o anguish_n whereof_o be_v able_a to_o consume_v even_o the_o marrow_n in_o the_o a_o christian_n must_v speak_v unto_o his_o own_o heart_n if_o thou_o confess_v thyself_o to_o be_v a_o lose_a sheep_n thou_o say_v right_a but_o that_o thou_o will_v therefore_o run_v from_o christ_n kingdom_n of_o god_n to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o sin_n wherein_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o unquietnes_n anguish_n affliction_n adversity_n and_o all_o kind_n of_o evil_n torment_v the_o conscience_n appear_v by_o the_o gospel_n by_o which_o christ_n reign_v in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n for_o some_o abuse_n it_o unto_o carnal_a liberty_n other_o contrariwise_o be_v persuade_v that_o it_o be_v not_o sufficient_a to_o salvation_n but_o that_o their_o work_n also_o do_v help_v somewhat_o and_o by_o this_o they_o deny_v and_o contemn_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n hereof_o thou_o may_v read_v more_o in_o the_o epistle_n to_o the_o roman_n wherein_o these_o two_o sort_n of_o man_n be_v plain_o set_v forth_o five_o this_o kingdom_n of_o god_n or_o remission_n of_o sin_n have_v no_o bound_n or_o measure_n 18.21.22_o matth._n 18.21.22_o as_o that_o place_n of_o the_o gospel_n do_v very_o well_o show_v where_o peter_n ask_v the_o lord_n lord_n how_o oft_o shall_v my_o brother_n sin_n against_o i_o and_o i_o shall_v forgive_v he_o unto_o seven_o time_n jesus_n say_v unto_o he_o i_o say_v not_o to_o thou_o unto_o seven_o time_n but_o unto_o seventy_o time_n seven_o time_n that_o be_v justify_v by_o no_o work_n but_o righteousness_n must_v come_v unto_o he_o from_o some_o other_o where_o then_o from_o his_o own_o work_n for_o moses_n write_v of_o abel_n after_o this_o sort_n the_o lord_n have_v respect_n unto_o abel_n and_o to_o his_o oblation_n work_n god_n first_o regard_v the_o man_n and_o they_o the_o work_n first_o he_o have_v respect_n to_o abel_n himself_o then_o to_o his_o oblation_n because_o that_o abel_n be_v first_o count_v righteous_a entire_a and_o acceptable_a unto_o god_n and_o then_o for_o his_o sake_n his_o oblation_n also_o be_v allow_v and_o not_o he_o because_o of_o his_o oblation_n again_o god_n have_v no_o respect_n to_o cain_n and_o therefore_o neither_o to_o his_o oblation_n where_o again_o thou_o see_v that_o regard_n be_v have_v first_o of_o the_o worker_n they_o of_o the_o work_n of_o this_o place_n it_o be_v very_o plain_o gather_v that_o no_o work_n can_v be_v allow_v of_o god_n whereas_o he_o which_o work_v that_o work_n be_v not_o first_o acceptable_a to_o he_o and_o again_o that_o no_o work_n be_v disalow_v of_o he_o unless_o the_o author_n thereof_o be_v disallow_v before_o i_o think_v that_o these_o thing_n will_v be_v monastery_n wherein_o no_o other_o saint_n than_o cain_n be_v have_v rule_n and_o authority_n now_o of_o this_o error_n a_o other_o immediate_o spring_v they_z which_o attribute_v so_o much_o to_o work_n &_o do_v not_o accordingly_z esteem_v the_o worker_n and_o sound_a justification_n go_v so_o far_o that_o they_o ascribe_v all_o merit_n and_o sovereign_a righteousness_n to_o work_n do_v before_o justification_n make_v almost_o no_o account_n of_o faith_n allege_v that_o which_o james_n say_v that_o without_o work_n it_o be_v dead_a which_o sentence_n of_o the_o apostle_n when_o they_o little_o understand_v they_o attribute_v almost_o nothing_o to_o faith_n they_o always_o stick_v to_o work_n whereby_o they_o think_v they_o do_v merit_v exceed_o of_o god_n and_o be_v in_o any_o respect_n they_o will_v not_o have_v their_o good_a work_n contemn_v reason_n to_o be_v nothing_o esteem_v free_a will_n to_o be_v count_v uneffectual_a or_o sure_o if_o thou_o do_v here_o strive_v against_o they_o they_o begin_v to_o be_v angry_a with_o god_n and_o count_v it_o a_o small_a matter_n to_o kill_v their_o brother_n abel_n but_o here_o perhaps_o thou_o will_v say_v what_o be_v needful_a to_o be_v do_v by_o what_o mean_n shall_v i_o first_o of_o all_o become_v righteous_a and_o acceptable_a to_o god_n how_o shall_v i_o attain_v to_o this_o perfect_a justification_n the_o gospel_n answer_v preach_v that_o it_o be_v necessary_a that_o thou_o hear_v christ_n and_o repose_v thyself_o whole_o in_o he_o deny_v thyself_o &_o distrust_v all_o thy_o own_o strength_n by_o this_o mean_n thou_o shall_v be_v change_v from_o cain_n
we_o from_o the_o law_n for_o this_o that_o we_o may_v receive_v the_o adoption_n of_o the_o son_n both_o which_o come_v unto_o we_o by_o faith_n thus_o therefore_o we_o have_v those_o five_o thing_n whereof_o paul_n admonish_v we_o in_o this_o so_o plentiful_a and_o fruitful_a a_o place_n question_n a_o question_n but_o here_o rise_v a_o question_n forasmuch_o as_o to_o be_v under_o the_o law_n be_v to_o be_v subject_a to_o the_o law_n by_o compulsion_n and_o to_o obey_v the_o law_n no_o otherwise_o then_o unwilling_o so_o that_o none_o of_o they_o which_o be_v under_o the_o law_n be_v able_a to_o satisfy_v the_o law_n why_o paul_n say_v that_o christ_n be_v make_v under_o the_o law_n answer_n the_o answer_n i_o answer_v that_o the_o apostle_n make_v a_o very_a great_a difference_n by_o nature_n and_o bear_v the_o dominion_n thereof_o unwilling_o as_o christ_n be_v willing_o not_o by_o nature_n and_o against_o his_o will_n wherefore_o there_o be_v as_o great_a difference_n between_o nature_n it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o be_v make_v under_o the_o law_n &_o a_o other_o to_o be_v under_o the_o law_n by_o nature_n to_o be_v make_v under_o the_o law_n and_o to_o be_v under_o the_o law_n by_o nature_n as_o between_o these_o to_o be_v subject_a to_o the_o law_n of_o free_a will_n and_o to_o be_v subject_a to_o the_o law_n by_o servile_a constraint_n it_o be_v free_a unto_o christ_n to_o be_v under_o the_o law_n or_o not_o to_o be_v under_o it_o and_o he_o make_v himself_o subject_a to_o it_o of_o his_o own_o accord_n that_o he_o may_v most_o diligent_o do_v all_o thing_n that_o the_o law_n require_v but_o we_o be_v under_o the_o law_n even_o against_o our_o will_n thou_o may_v see_v a_o resemblance_n hereof_o in_o peter_n resemble_v we_o and_o christ_n be_v under_o the_o law_n and_o our_o deliveraunce_n from_o the_o same_o most_o excellent_o resemble_v and_o the_o angel_n which_o come_v into_o the_o prison_n to_o peter_n to_o deliver_v he_o both_o of_o they_o be_v then_o in_o the_o prison_n but_o peter_n be_v there_o be_v cast_v into_o it_o of_o herode_fw-la not_o of_o his_o own_o accord_n wherein_o he_o be_v also_o to_o abide_v for_o he_o can_v own_o accord_n which_o we_o do_v bend_v ourselves_o to_o do_v against_o our_o will_n yea_o and_o do_v they_o for_o our_o sake_n that_o he_o may_v join_v we_o unto_o he_o and_o also_o bring_v we_o out_o together_o with_o himself_o for_o he_o may_v easy_o go_v forth_o who_o be_v hold_v in_o the_o prison_n by_o no_o necessity_n if_o now_o we_o cleave_v unto_o he_o and_o follow_v he_o we_o also_o do_v go_v forth_o but_o this_o cleave_v to_o he_o and_o follow_v he_o be_v nothing_o else_o then_o to_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o not_o to_o doubt_v that_o he_o become_v man_n and_o be_v make_v thereof_o for_o our_o sake_n for_o he_o be_v circumcise_v present_v in_o the_o temple_n and_o the_o time_n of_o the_o purification_n be_v finish_v be_v obedient_a to_o his_o parent_n all_o which_o thing_n he_o may_v have_v omit_v be_v lord_n of_o the_o law_n and_o over_o all_o howbeit_o he_o apply_v himself_o to_o these_o thing_n free_o of_o his_o own_o will_n not_o be_v either_o compel_v by_o any_o fear_n or_o allure_v by_o any_o hope_n in_o outward_a work_n he_o be_v in_o the_o mean_a season_n altogether_o like_a unto_o they_o which_o be_v under_o the_o law_n that_o be_v which_o do_v the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n against_o their_o will_n inasmuch_o as_o his_o free_a spirit_n be_v hide_v from_o other_o even_o as_o also_o the_o servile_a and_o constrain_a will_n of_o other_o be_v hide_v and_o so_o he_o both_o be_v under_o the_o law_n and_o not_o under_o the_o law_n he_o behave_v himself_o outward_o in_o work_n as_o they_o which_o be_v unwilling_o hold_v under_o the_o law_n whereas_o notwithstanding_o he_o be_v not_o under_o the_o law_n as_o they_o but_o of_o his_o own_o free_a will_n wherefore_o in_o respect_n of_o his_o work_n he_o be_v under_o the_o law_n but_o in_o respect_n of_o his_o will_n he_o be_v free_a from_o the_o law_n law_n how_o we_o be_v under_o the_o law_n but_o we_o as_o well_o by_o will_n as_o by_o work_n be_v under_o the_o law_n by_o nature_n for_o that_o we_o do_v work_n according_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o the_o law_n of_o necessity_n yea_o and_o we_o do_v they_o with_o that_o will_n which_o the_o law_n constrain_v and_o urge_v in_o asmuch_o as_o we_o do_v not_o endeavour_n to_o do_v they_o of_o our_o own_o accord_n christ_n make_v himself_o subject_a to_o the_o punishment_n of_o the_o law_n also_o for_o our_o sake_n of_o his_o own_o will_n he_o do_v not_o only_o perform_v those_o work_n which_o the_o law_n command_v but_o he_o suffer_v the_o punishment_n also_o which_o be_v due_a to_o we_o be_v transgressor_n thereof_o the_o heart_n in_o the_o scripture_n signify_v a_o vehement_a &_o special_a love_n which_o we_o ought_v to_o bear_v towards_o god_n they_o which_o serve_v god_n with_o mouth_n hands_z and_o knee_n only_o be_v hypocrite_n neither_o have_v god_n any_o care_n of_o they_o for_o god_n will_v not_o have_v part_n but_o the_o whole_a the_o jew_n do_v outward_o abstain_v from_o idolatry_n and_o serve_v god_n alone_o in_o mouth_n but_o their_o heart_n be_v far_o remove_v from_o he_o be_v full_a of_o diffidence_n and_o unbelief_n outward_a they_o seem_v to_o be_v very_o earnest_a in_o serve_v god_n but_o within_o they_o be_v full_a of_o idolatry_n whereupon_o the_o lord_n say_v unto_o they_o matth._n 23_o woe_n be_v to_o you_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n hypocrite_n for_o you_o be_v like_a unto_o paint_a sepulchre_n which_o appear_v beautiful_a outward_a but_o be_v within_o full_a of_o dead_a man_n bone_n and_o of_o all_o filthiness_n so_o be_v you_o also_o for_o outward_a you_o appear_v though_o he_o can_v not_o be_v blame_v or_o rebuke_v of_o the_o lord_n he_o think_v yea_o it_o seem_v unto_o he_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v here_o commend_v and_o praise_v his_o life_n before_o the_o and_o wish_v that_o their_o holiness_n be_v know_v to_o the_o whole_a world_n show_v a_o goodly_a sign_n of_o their_o religion_n by_o the_o bite_a of_o their_o lip_n if_o they_o hear_v any_o speak_v that_o great_a holy_a man_n notwithstanding_o continue_v still_o in_o the_o same_o mind_n and_o suppose_v that_o he_o shall_v receive_v great_a honour_n &_o singular_a praise_n because_o of_o his_o citizen_n to_o utter_v counterfeit_a ware_n merchant_n to_o deceive_v in_o sell_v merchandise_n and_o so_o many_o crafty_a practice_n so_o many_o deceit_n in_o subtle_a deal_n so_o much_o regard_n of_o usury_n and_o private_a profit_n that_o it_o can_v not_o be_v rehearse_v as_o yet_o they_o endeavour_n again_o to_o bring_v in_o the_o mass_n to_o set_v up_o their_o taper_n &c_n &c_n be_v preserve_v they_o wherefore_o every_o christian_a when_o he_o have_v receive_v the_o gospel_n may_v worthy_o rejoice_v that_o he_o be_v now_o under_o the_o tuition_n of_o christ_n and_o be_v not_o any_o thing_n trouble_v because_o of_o his_o sin_n if_o he_o have_v embrace_v the_o gospel_n christ_n under_o who_o he_o fight_v will_v guide_v the_o matter_n excellent_o well_o satan_n in_o deed_n will_v tempt_v he_o with_o this_o and_o that_o vice_n as_o with_o adultery_n whoredom_n theft_n slaughter_n envy_n hatred_n wrath_n and_o other_o like_a sin_n but_o let_v he_o not_o therefore_o be_v discourage_v he_o have_v a_o king_n that_o be_v strong_a &_o mighty_a enough_o of_o who_o he_o shall_v be_v easy_o defend_v notwithstanding_o it_o will_v be_v very_o hard_o to_o stand_v strong_o and_o nothing_o to_o yield_v wherefore_o prayer_n in_o this_o case_n be_v very_o needful_a other_o also_o may_v by_o their_o prayer_n entreat_v for_o thou_o that_o a_o stout_a courage_n and_o manly_a also_o do_v the_o son_n and_o christ_n also_o say_v in_o john_n chap._n 14_o the_o holy_a ghost_n shall_v teach_v you_o all_o thing_n wherefore_o as_o the_o father_n teach_v so_o teach_v the_o son_n by_o faith_n take_v no_o care_n whether_o the_o adversity_n which_o they_o suffer_v shall_v remain_v a_o short_a or_o a_o long_a time_n whether_o they_o shall_v be_v temporal_a or_o continue_a neither_o be_v disquiet_v with_o care_v what_o end_n they_o shall_v have_v they_o commit_v all_o thing_n to_o god_n seek_v not_o to_o know_v when_o how_o where_o or_o by_o who_o he_o will_v give_v they_o quietness_n wherefore_o god_n again_o show_v they_o this_o favour_n that_o he_o make_v the_o end_n of_o their_o trial_n to_o be_v such_o and_o with_o so_o great_a commodity_n as_o no_o man_n can_v either_o suspect_v or_o wish_v for_o loe_o this_o be_v that_o peace_n of_o the_o cross_n the_o peace_n of_o god_n the_o peace_n of_o conscience_n true_a christian_a peace_n which_o make_v that_o hope_n fill_v you_o with_o all_o joy_n &_o peace_n in_o believe_v that_o which_o he_o call_v in_o these_o word_n peace_n in_o believe_v he_o call_v in_o our_o present_a text_n the_o peace_n of_o god_n mind_n heart_n and_o conscience_n be_v preserve_v and_o keep_v in_o peace_n neither_o can_v patience_n endure_v where_o the_o heart_n be_v not_o confirm_v with_o this_o peace_n for_o that_o he_o only_o which_o have_v this_o peace_n do_v thorough_o persuade_v himself_o that_o god_n be_v favourable_a unto_o he_o &_o careful_a for_o he_o and_o make_v no_o account_n what_o chance_v unto_o he_o from_o creature_n moreover_o let_v no_o man_n understand_v here_o the_o heart_n and_o mind_n to_o be_v the_o will_n and_o knowledge_n of_o nature_n but_o as_o paul_n himself_o interprete_v the_o heart_n and_o mind_n in_o christ_n jesu_n that_o be_v such_o as_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n of_o christ_n and_o under_o christ_n these_o be_v the_o heart_n and_o mind_n which_o faith_n and_o love_n cause_n with_o which_o they_o that_o be_v endue_v do_v behave_v themselves_o most_o godly_a towards_o god_n and_o most_o love_o and_o gentle_o towards_o their_o neighbour_n towards_o god_n they_o so_o
