always_o that_o it_o be_v do_v so_o in_o the_o sear_n of_o god_n and_o wisdom_n of_o his_o spirit_n as_o we_o think_v not_o by_o these_o ordinary_a mean_n to_o smother_v or_o smoke_v out_o our_o trouble_n but_o as_o purpose_v to_o use_v they_o as_o preparative_n whereby_o both_o our_o soul_n and_o body_n may_v be_v make_v more_o capable_a of_o the_o spiritual_a mean_n to_o follow_v after_o as_o we_o require_v these_o thing_n to_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o our_o ministry_n in_o such_o a_o perplexity_n so_o we_o will_v wish_v the_o person_n minister_a to_o be_v man_n learned_a and_o of_o sound_a judgement_n wise_a and_o comforter_n of_o godly_a experience_n meek_a and_o of_o most_o iove_a spirit_n for_o when_o the_o trouble_a patient_n shall_v be_v well_o persuade_v of_o our_o knowledge_n and_o discretion_n and_o there_o withal_o shall_v perceive_v we_o to_o come_v in_o tender_a and_o love_a affection_n i_o think_v a_o entrance_n be_v make_v and_o all_o prejudice_n be_v take_v away_o so_o as_o we_o may_v the_o more_o free_o work_v upon_o the_o conscience_n first_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o sight_n of_o sin_n as_o to_o some_o cause_n of_o their_o trouble_n herein_o we_o must_v labour_v to_o put_v away_o all_o confusion_n and_o blindness_n of_o sorrow_n endeavour_v by_o wisdom_n to_o bring_v the_o party_n wound_v to_o some_o certain_a object_n and_o matter_n of_o when_o any_o such_o one_o sin_n then_o do_v pursue_v thou_o rest_v not_o only_o therein_o but_o say_v thus_o rather_o to_o thyself_o oh_o lord_n be_v this_o one_o sin_n so_o grievous_a and_o do_v my_o to_o any_o peculiar_a condition_n of_o man_n or_o tie_v to_o any_o several_a circumstance_n as_o be_v many_o other_o psalm_n contain_v particular_a matter_n and_o therefore_o be_v it_o to_o be_v use_v as_o a_o notable_a meditation_n which_o may_v be_v show_v by_o this_o word_n mitchtam_n the_o first_o verse_n be_v the_o proposition_n of_o the_o whole_a and_o the_o residue_n of_o the_o psalm_n not_o the_o disease_n of_o the_o mind_n or_o feel_v they_o effectual_o pine_v and_o languish_v away_o under_o the_o burden_n of_o they_o neglect_v prayer_n confess_v of_o his_o sin_n repentance_n and_o such_o like_a mean_n of_o his_o salvation_n true_a it_o be_v that_o man_n live_v not_o by_o bread_n only_o and_o therefore_o the_o wicked_a be_v but_o stall_v up_o and_o make_v fat_a against_o the_o day_n of_o slaughter_n and_o the_o child_n of_o god_n know_v and_o acknowledge_v that_o without_o the_o blessing_n and_o favour_n of_o god_n their_o meat_n may_v bring_v their_o bane_n and_o their_o affliction_n come_v and_o to_o what_o end_n they_o be_v send_v or_o else_o they_o be_v such_o as_o be_v ignorant_a and_o know_v nothing_o hereof_o they_o that_o be_v ignorant_a when_o they_o see_v themselves_o so_o punish_v they_o be_v drive_v into_o great_a straits_n they_o look_v only_o upon_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n they_o never_o consider_v the_o appertinance_n thereof_o and_o that_o blindness_n they_o attribute_v the_o cause_n of_o their_o pain_n either_o to_o witch_n or_o to_o natural_a cause_n or_o fortune_n or_o some_o such_o thing_n and_o hereupon_o to_o be_v release_v of_o their_o grief_n they_o go_v and_o run_v and_o ride_v to_o wise_a man_n as_o they_o call_v they_o to_z witches_z yea_o oftentimes_o to_o the_o devil_n himself_o and_o use_v all_o unlawful_a mean_n that_o they_o can_v devise_v but_o for_o these_o what_o remedy_n be_v there_o sure_o even_o first_o to_o consider_v that_o their_o affliction_n be_v send_v from_o god_n second_o to_o inquire_v at_o his_o word_n the_o cause_n that_o move_v the_o lord_n to_o lay_v they_o upon_o they_o the_o lord_n no_o doubt_n will_v answer_v they_o out_o of_o his_o word_n that_o it_o be_v sin_n three_o the_o end_n which_o the_o lord_n have_v set_v down_o which_o be_v to_o humble_a us._n now_o if_o we_o consider_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v send_v it_o that_o sin_n be_v the_o cause_n thereof_o and_o we_o be_v true_o humble_v because_o of_o our_o sin_n then_o may_v we_o be_v bold_a to_o seek_v to_o the_o water_n of_o comfort_n and_o drink_v free_o of_o the_o water_n of_o life_n which_o our_o saviour_n have_v promise_v to_o all_o that_o come_v unto_o he_o to_o be_v refresh_v they_o which_o be_v instruct_v both_o whence_o affliction_n come_v and_o wherefore_o and_o to_o what_o end_n they_o common_o for_o they_o be_v but_o put_v in_o fear_n only_o and_o though_o they_o be_v put_v in_o ward_n it_o be_v but_o for_o a_o very_a small_a time_n and_o we_o read_v of_o no_o correction_n that_o be_v lay_v unto_o we_o lo_o these_o twenty_o year_n but_o where_o be_v any_o humble_v any_o confess_v of_o sin_n before_o the_o lord_n nay_o we_o neglect_v the_o word_n and_o have_v it_o in_o contempt_n among_o 12._o restore_v to_o i_o the_o joy_n of_o thy_o salvation_n and_o establish_v i_o with_o thy_o free_a spirit_n where_o he_o have_v lose_v as_o it_o be_v the_o freedom_n of_o the_o spirit_n the_o cleanness_n of_o his_o heart_n and_o the_o joy_n of_o his_o mind_n pray_v to_o have_v they_o all_o restore_v again_o and_o thus_o much_o for_o our_o admonition_n pray_v now_o for_o our_o comfort_n i_o be_o sore_o afflict_v accept_v my_o free_a offering_n how_o can_v he_o before_o afflict_v and_o yet_o free_a when_o he_o desire_v to_o be_v quicken_v he_o feel_v not_o this_o freedom_n nevertheless_o he_o cease_v not_o to_o offer_v his_o sacrifice_n whereby_o we_o be_v teach_v to_o offer_v our_o prayer_n to_o god_n although_o through_o perplexity_n of_o the_o spirit_n we_o know_v not_o how_o to_o pray_v nor_o what_o to_o say_v but_o speak_v sigh_v and_o groan_v for_o this_o be_v a_o sacrifice_n acceptable_a to_o the_o lord_n for_o though_o we_o can_v pray_v with_o comfort_n yet_o we_o must_v crave_v of_o the_o lord_n even_o by_o mourning_n and_o complain_v of_o our_o own_o estate_n and_o bewail_v our_o case_n this_o also_o be_v a_o acceptable_a sacrifice_n for_o a_o sacrifice_n of_o sacrifice_n be_v a_o contrite_a heart_n say_v the_o prophet_n and_o as_o we_o say_v before_o out_o of_o the_o last_o of_o isaiah_n to_o a_o humble_a heart_n will_v i_o look_v say_v the_o lord_n when_o we_o can_v then_o find_v free_a joy_n let_v we_o come_v with_o free_a sorrow_n and_o when_o we_o know_v 27_o not_o how_o to_o pray_v god_n spirit_n will_v teach_v we_o how_o to_o crave_v how_o to_o sigh_v and_o how_o to_o pray_v and_o the_o lord_n will_v know_v the_o meaning_n of_o his_o own_o spirit_n cry_v in_o us._n the_o meaning_n of_o the_o man_n of_o god_n in_o effect_n be_v i_o pour_v out_o my_o prayer_n in_o the_o abundance_n of_o my_o grief_n and_o from_o a_o full_a heart_n we_o see_v when_o a_o man_n want_v a_o thing_n though_o he_o can_v entreat_v his_o friend_n to_o obtain_v it_o of_o he_o yet_o he_o may_v free_o mourn_v and_o lament_v his_o estate_n let_v we_o then_o when_o simile_n we_o can_v pray_v not_o cease_v to_o mourn_v and_o to_o make_v a_o noise_n as_o ezechias_n who_o chatter_v like_o a_o crane_n or_o swallow_n wherein_o he_o show_v that_o he_o be_v so_o press_v with_o sorrow_n that_o he_o can_v do_v nothing_o but_o sigh_n and_o groan_n when_o we_o grow_v therefore_o in_o languish_a grief_n this_o be_v not_o the_o thing_n which_o please_v the_o lord_n but_o it_o nourish_v still_o in_o we_o mistrust_v we_o may_v see_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n the_o unperfit_a speech_n of_o god_n child_n and_o dear_a saint_n utter_v in_o their_o grief_n their_o pathetical_a affection_n for_o what_o be_v the_o remedy_n in_o this_o confusion_n but_o even_o to_o pour_v out_o free_o before_o the_o lord_n their_o grief_n and_o in_o open_v they_o to_o their_o friend_n yea_o and_o when_o they_o can_v do_v neither_o of_o both_o yet_o will_v they_o reveal_v their_o sorrow_n to_o the_o tree_n of_o the_o field_n his_o offering_n we_o see_v be_v his_o grief_n the_o lord_n be_v god_n and_o not_o a_o idol_n he_o will_v hear_v sin_n thou_o when_o thou_o cry_v unto_o he_o it_o may_v be_v thou_o be_v ashamed_a to_o confess_v thy_o fault_n before_o man_n thou_o need_v not_o be_v ashamed_a to_o confess_v thy_o sin_n before_o god_n man_n may_v cast_v thou_o in_o the_o tooth_n with_o thy_o infirmity_n the_o lord_n will_v never_o upbraid_v thou_o man_n will_v not_o keep_v counsel_n neither_o can_v give_v thou_o counsel_n the_o lord_n will_v both_o keep_v thou_o so_o the_o prophet_n in_o his_o own_o example_n psalm_n 42._o 3._o offer_v his_o grief_n unto_o the_o lord_n in_o tear_n for_o when_o one_o wave_n go_v over_o another_o and_o his_o reason_n and_o his_o soul_n have_v make_v a_o tumult_n within_o himself_o yet_o he_o say_v why_o be_v thou_o cast_v down_o my_o soul_n &_o unquiet_a within_o i_o wait_v on_o god_n etc._n etc._n let_v we_o he_o amplifi_v in_o the_o 109._o and_o 110._o verse_n and_o in_o this_o extremity_n of_o grief_n we_o shall_v see_v that_o he_o have_v good_a cause_n to_o pray_v earnest_o if_o we_o do_v consider_v the_o reason_n which_o flesh_n and_o blood_n will_v put_v in_o to_o his_o mind_n for_o first_o when_o he_o see_v that_o he_o be_v in_o such_o straits_n that_o he_o can_v not_o see_v mean_n or_o way_n to_o be_v deliver_v than_o his_o reason_n will_v persuade_v he_o to_o leave_v the_o light_n of_o the_o word_n as_o a_o thing_n that_o in_o this_o case_n show_v no_o light_n and_o to_o use_v policy_n for_o to_o help_v himself_o this_o be_v a_o great_a temptation_n and_o if_o god_n have_v not_o assist_v he_o he_o may_v have_v fall_v hereby_o for_o we_o see_v that_o saul_n when_o the_o lord_n give_v he_o no_o answer_n by_o urim_n and_o thummim_n nor_o other_o ordinary_a mean_n he_o think_v good_a in_o policy_n to_o ask_v counsel_n of_o a_o witch_n which_o he_o before_o time_n have_v punish_v with_o death_n thus_o will_v corrupt_v judgement_n have_v carry_v he_o to_o use_v policy_n and_o unlawful_a mean_n and_o to_o have_v forsake_v the_o lantern_n of_o the_o word_n if_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o stay_v he_o and_o therefore_o this_o be_v one_o cause_n to_o move_v he_o most_o earnest_o to_o pray_v second_o if_o he_o look_v to_o his_o affection_n he_o shall_v find_v they_o as_o corrupt_v for_o they_o will_v have_v carry_v he_o to_o revenge_v when_o he_o see_v himself_o to_o be_v unreasonable_o and_o unconscionable_o deal_v withal_o and_o therefore_o to_o restrain_v the_o headstrong_a affection_n of_o revenge_n it_o be_v very_o needful_a
wherefore_o job_n say_v chap._n 31._o 13._o that_o if_o he_o do_v contemn_v the_o judgement_n of_o his_o servant_n or_o of_o his_o maid_n when_o they_o do_v think_v themselves_o evil_o entreat_v by_o he_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v when_o god_n stand_v up_o and_o when_o he_o shall_v visit_v i_o what_o shall_v i_o answer_v he_o that_o make_v i_o in_o the_o womb_n have_v he_o not_o make_v he_o have_v therefore_o if_o our_o cause_n be_v ill_a be_v rather_o to_o crave_v of_o god_n to_o have_v our_o sin_n pardon_v because_o the_o righteous_a god_n be_v not_o a_o defender_n of_o a_o unrighteous_a cause_n again_o though_o our_o cause_n be_v good_a we_o must_v not_o therefore_o think_v that_o we_o ourselves_o can_v answer_v it_o because_o the_o man_n of_o god_n say_v portion_n 20._o 2._o plead_v the_o saint_n of_o god_n have_v good_a cause_n will_v not_o trust_v in_o they_o what_o be_v then_o the_o cause_n why_o oftentimes_o in_o good_a cause_n we_o prevail_v no_o more_o even_o because_o we_o will_v shoulder_v they_o out_o with_o our_o own_o strength_n &_o say_v not_o lord_n put_z wisdom_n into_o my_o mouth_n lord_n put_v a_o weapon_n into_o my_o hand_n then_o our_o good_a cause_n must_v never_o be_v sever_v from_o our_o god_n for_o otherwise_o we_o shall_v never_o have_v good_a issue_n of_o they_o so_o we_o must_v beware_v that_o we_o make_v not_o god_n a_o revenger_n of_o our_o affection_n but_o pray_v that_o we_o may_v be_v harness_v with_o a_o righteous_a cause_n and_o with_o a_o right_a handle_n of_o it_o from_o god_n true_a it_o be_v then_o that_o in_o trouble_n we_o may_v pray_v not_o to_o be_v overcome_v yet_o we_o see_v the_o man_n of_o god_n confess_v how_o he_o behave_v himself_o well_o in_o affliction_n and_o as_o by_o the_o fire_n the_o gold_n be_v both_o try_v good_a and_o purge_v from_o the_o dross_n so_o the_o lord_n prove_v in_o he_o the_o gold_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o scour_v he_o from_o corrupt_a affection_n he_o scour_v he_o from_o the_o love_n of_o this_o world_n to_o stir_v up_o in_o he_o the_o love_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v he_o scour_v he_o from_o the_o work_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o quicken_v in_o he_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n he_o stir_v up_o his_o gift_n to_o serve_v god_n glory_n and_o scour_v he_o from_o the_o love_n of_o himself_o so_o by_o his_o fatherly_a chastisement_n the_o lord_n quicken_v we_o in_o good_a thing_n and_o deliver_v we_o from_o evil_a so_o we_o have_v hear_v also_o how_o in_o our_o defence_n we_o must_v pray_v for_o god_n grace_n because_o for_o want_v of_o wisdom_n and_o patience_n we_o can_v answer_v our_o own_o cause_n for_o as_o in_o our_o suit_n at_o law_n we_o get_v pleader_n and_o proctor_n to_o speak_v for_o we_o so_o we_o must_v know_v that_o in_o the_o court_n of_o heaven_n we_o can_v plead_v for_o ourselves_o but_o must_v open_v our_o suit_n to_o christ_n which_o must_v plead_v it_o for_o us._n now_o in_o that_o he_o say_v let_v not_o the_o proud_a oppress_v i_o he_o note_v that_o they_o be_v such_o as_o do_v flatter_v themselves_o for_o grace_n receive_v as_o though_o they_o shall_v be_v controller_n unto_o he_o no_o marvel_n then_o though_o we_o from_o judgement_n and_o justice_n we_o must_v not_o think_v then_o to_o deal_v ill_o with_o they_o that_o deal_v ill_a with_o we_o neither_o must_v we_o deal_v well_o but_o for_o a_o time_n because_o we_o must_v persevere_v for_o when_o we_o slip_v too_o much_o we_o never_o show_v that_o we_o do_v true_o execute_v judgement_n and_o justice_n if_o the_o man_n of_o god_n here_o so_o resist_v the_o devil_n and_o wicked_a man_n which_o be_v as_o the_o instrument_n of_o satan_n breathe_v for_o our_o destruction_n we_o must_v also_o fight_v against_o they_o after_o his_o example_n although_o his_o soul_n faint_v his_o eye_n fail_v his_o flesh_n parch_v his_o natural_a power_n melt_v this_o we_o may_v also_o see_v how_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n mourn_v in_o their_o prayer_n away_o then_o with_o this_o common_a say_n which_o proceed_v from_o inconstancy_n i_o have_v bear_v injury_n long_o i_o have_v take_v much_o at_o his_o hand_n and_o put_v up_o many_o wrong_n shall_v i_o suffer_v he_o still_o to_o abuse_v i_o and_o let_v myself_o be_v undo_v sure_o even_o to_o the_o fail_v of_o our_o eye_n the_o prophet_n show_v we_o we_o must_v maintain_v a_o good_a cause_n and_o see_v the_o lord_n have_v the_o issue_n of_o all_o thing_n in_o his_o hand_n and_o help_v desperate_a case_n he_o will_v undoubted_o help_v we_o if_o we_o leave_v not_o our_o case_n then_o we_o see_v though_o he_o have_v devour_v many_o evil_n yet_o he_o execute_v judgement_n and_o justice_n so_o we_o must_v swallow_v up_o many_o injury_n and_o yet_o neither_o depart_v from_o the_o lord_n nor_o cease_v from_o our_o cause_n and_o though_o we_o will_v cry_v in_o our_o prayer_n to_o be_v hear_v to_o the_o cloud_n and_o send_v forth_o prayer_n loud_a shriek_n though_o we_o will_v roar_v as_o a_o cannon_n gun_n yet_o what_o be_v it_o that_o season_v our_o prayer_n even_o the_o mourning_n of_o our_o heart_n the_o fail_v of_o our_o eye_n and_o when_o we_o pray_v with_o unspeakable_a sigh_n which_o can_v be_v express_v for_o they_o be_v not_o loud_a eloquent_a and_o well_o set_v prayer_n which_o be_v acceptable_a to_o the_o lord_n but_o our_o stay_a ourselves_o on_o the_o lord_n and_o our_o continue_v in_o well_o do_v and_o our_o maintain_n of_o a_o good_a cause_n to_o the_o utmost_a so_o that_o a_o man_n may_v soon_o pull_v the_o eye_n out_o of_o our_o head_n and_o the_o heart_n out_o of_o our_o cause_n body_n and_o bereave_v we_o of_o our_o life_n than_o make_v we_o leave_v righteousness_n and_o though_o trouble_n shall_v come_v we_o will_v still_o follow_v our_o cause_n to_o the_o fail_v of_o our_o eye_n faint_v of_o our_o heart_n and_o melt_v of_o our_o power_n herein_o then_o appear_v the_o true_a virtue_n of_o the_o faith_n of_o this_o man_n of_o god_n because_o while_o no_o wickedness_n be_v offer_v many_o will_v do_v well_o but_o after_o often_o trial_n with_o injury_n they_o execute_v neither_o judgement_n nor_o justice_n so_o that_o where_o this_o faith_n want_v there_o be_v no_o true_a love_n of_o judgement_n and_o justice_n beside_o here_o we_o be_v to_o mark_v that_o that_o be_v a_o true_a prayer_n which_o come_v from_o the_o true_a feel_n and_o deep_a sense_n of_o his_o heart_n and_o without_o this_o well_o set_v
fearful_a curse_n to_o be_v upon_o it_o when_o we_o use_v it_o not_o the_o four_o rule_n be_v that_o if_o we_o will_v labour_v for_o true_a zeal_n we_o must_v be_v patient_a in_o our_o own_o zeal_n cause_n and_o devour_v many_o private_a injury_n that_o the_o lord_n cause_n may_v be_v the_o better_o provide_v for_o and_o that_o his_o glory_n may_v go_v the_o better_a forward_o for_o we_o see_v how_o soon_o and_o how_o grievous_o we_o be_v move_v for_o our_o own_o cause_n and_o how_o soon_o we_o be_v cold_a in_o defend_v god_n cause_n this_o then_o be_v true_a christian_a zeal_n to_o deny_v our_o own_o reason_n and_o private_a commodity_n and_o especial_o to_o seek_v god_n glory_n though_o it_o be_v with_o our_o danger_n this_o will_v so_o stop_v the_o mouth_n of_o the_o adversary_n that_o howsoever_o for_o a_o while_o he_o think_v we_o to_o be_v choleric_a &_o mad_a man_n and_o esteem_v of_o we_o as_o revenger_n of_o our_o own_o affection_n yet_o one_o day_n he_o will_v confess_v that_o we_o do_v not_o seek_v either_o our_o own_o commodity_n or_o our_o own_o revenge_n but_o that_o whatsoever_o we_o do_v we_o do_v it_o for_o god_n glory_n and_o in_o the_o defence_n of_o a_o good_a cause_n the_o seek_v to_o revenge_v our_o private_a evil_n do_v much_o hurt_v and_o bring_v great_a injury_n to_o this_o godly_a zeal_n for_o if_o we_o can_v speak_v with_o the_o tongue_n of_o angel_n and_o can_v speak_v never_o so_o glorious_o to_o the_o delight_n of_o all_o man_n and_o have_v not_o love_n even_o to_o our_o very_a enemy_n all_o be_v nothing_o all_o be_v abomination_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o the_o lord_n contrariwise_o if_o we_o can_v be_v content_a to_o forsake_v ourselves_o and_o to_o be_v account_v as_o nothing_o we_o shall_v be_v more_o acceptable_a to_o the_o lord_n and_o find_v less_o trouble_n to_o ourselves_o true_a it_o be_v that_o god_n his_o child_n even_o in_o their_o best_a action_n be_v trouble_v while_o they_o survey_v their_o inward_a affection_n and_o gage_v their_o heart_n before_o the_o lord_n whether_o they_o have_v not_o do_v their_o thing_n in_o self-love_n rather_o than_o for_o love_n of_o god_n whether_o in_o vain_a glory_n rather_o obedience_n than_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n without_o which_o exercise_n we_o shall_v never_o see_v whether_o our_o action_n be_v pure_a or_o whether_o they_o be_v unpure_a or_o whether_o they_o be_v mix_v whether_o they_o be_v in_o respect_n of_o god_n or_o in_o respect_n of_o ourselves_o many_o can_v rejoice_v at_o good_a thing_n in_o themselves_o and_o repine_v to_o see_v they_o in_o other_o many_o can_v be_v grieve_v with_o evil_n in_o themselves_o which_o will_v rejoice_v to_o see_v it_o in_o other_o wherefore_o we_o be_v great_o to_o suspect_v ourselves_o and_o our_o zeal_n when_o we_o be_v thus_o affect_v because_o it_o be_v a_o manifest_a token_n that_o we_o be_v not_o please_v with_o that_o which_o be_v good_a for_o god_n glory_n but_o for_o self-love_n neither_o do_v we_o repine_v for_o god_n dishonour_n but_o at_o our_o own_o discredit_n but_o we_o be_v to_o learn_v howsoever_o the_o good_a be_v do_v to_o rejoice_v and_o howsoever_o evil_n be_v commit_v to_o be_v sorrowful_a we_o see_v the_o prophet_n here_o be_v not_o grieve_v so_o much_o because_o they_o be_v his_o enemy_n as_o because_o they_o be_v the_o enemy_n of_o god_n for_o if_o he_o have_v think_v they_o to_o have_v be_v god_n child_n whatsoever_o private_a injury_n he_o have_v receive_v he_o can_v have_v swallow_v it_o up_o and_o more_o have_v as_o with_o the_o presumptuous_a sin_n of_o the_o ungodly_a and_o obstinate_a true_a it_o be_v indeed_o that_o our_o zeal_n must_v cause_v we_o most_o to_o be_v grieve_v for_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o godly_a by_o how_o much_o they_o be_v come_v near_o to_o the_o image_n of_o god_n than_o other_o howbeit_o it_o must_v always_o be_v with_o a_o fellow_n feel_n and_o pitiful_a sympathy_n towards_o they_o as_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v we_o rom._n 15._o that_o the_o same_o mind_n shall_v be_v in_o we_o which_o be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n of_o which_o place_n we_o have_v speak_v often_o before_o wherefore_o we_o must_v make_v god_n friend_n our_o friend_n without_o any_o respect_n of_o person_n howsoever_o they_o be_v otherwise_o far_o distant_a from_o we_o either_o by_o place_n or_o familiarity_n or_o nature_n or_o howsoever_o and_o on_o the_o contrary_a whosoever_o be_v god_n enemy_n must_v also_o be_v we_o howsoever_o we_o be_v join_v together_o yea_o though_o we_o lie_v both_o together_o in_o one_o womb_n this_o will_v seem_v a_o hard_a doctrine_n to_o flesh_n and_o blood_n and_o yet_o our_o saviour_n christ_n have_v manifest_o and_o plain_o teach_v it_o we_o matth._n 10._o 37._o and_o 16_o 14._o luke_n 14_o 26._o if_o amy_a man_n come_v to_o i_o and_o hate_v not_o his_o father_n and_o mother_n and_o wife_n and_o child_n and_o brethren_n and_o sister_n yea_o and_o his_o own_o life_n he_o can_v be_v my_o disciple_n what_o will_v he_o have_v we_o to_o cast_v off_o all_o natural_a affection_n and_o so_o the_o scripture_n shall_v repugn_v whereas_o it_o be_v set_v as_o a_o note_n of_o they_o that_o shall_v come_v in_o the_o last_o perilous_a time_n 2._o tim._n 3._o 3_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v void_a of_o natural_a love_n and_o affection_n and_o may_v be_v contrary_a to_o that_o exod._n 20._o honour_n thy_o father_n and_o thy_o mother_n etc._n etc._n no_o he_o mean_v nothing_o less_o but_o he_o mean_v that_o we_o shall_v so_o be_v join_v in_o natural_a love_n as_o he_o speak_v of_o himself_o who_o be_v my_o mother_n who_o be_v my_o brother_n even_o he_o that_o hear_v the_o word_n so_o that_o though_o we_o be_v never_o so_o far_o asunder_o we_o must_v love_v they_o that_o love_n god_n and_o though_o that_o we_o be_v never_o so_o near_o we_o must_v hate_v they_o that_o hate_n god_n yea_o and_o so_o far_o as_o our_o friend_n will_v pull_v we_o from_o god_n and_o from_o his_o truth_n we_o must_v shake_v off_o all_o natural_a affection_n not_o because_o they_o be_v join_v to_o we_o in_o the_o flesh_n but_o because_o by_o no_o mean_n they_o will_v be_v join_v with_o we_o in_o the_o spirit_n yet_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n we_o must_v remember_v that_o we_o do_v all_o duty_n of_o love_n and_o obedience_n child_n to_o they_o as_o in_o admonish_v they_o in_o pray_v for_o they_o and_o mourn_v for_o they_o and_o then_o if_o nothing_o will_v serve_v but_o we_o must_v either_o cleave_v to_o they_o and_o forsake_v god_n or_o forsake_v they_o and_o clâ—â—ue_v to_o god_n we_o must_v separate_v ourselves_o from_o their_o corruption_n know_v always_o that_o we_o must_v obey_v the_o first_o table_n before_o the_o second_o and_o piety_n must_v go_v before_o charity_n and_o we_o must_v serve_v god_n before_o we_o serve_v man_n and_o nature_n must_v give_v place_n to_o godliness_n the_o five_o rule_n be_v that_o we_o must_v be_v strict_a to_o ourselves_o than_o to_o any_o other_o in_o some_o thing_n zeal_n and_o we_o must_v offer_v more_o liberty_n to_o other_o than_o to_o ourselves_o if_o we_o complain_v of_o sin_n let_v we_o be_v at_o most_o defiance_n with_o our_o own_o corruption_n so_o when_o we_o fight_v against_o the_o corruption_n of_o other_o we_o shall_v not_o fight_v against_o their_o person_n but_o against_o their_o sin_n this_o be_v the_o doctrine_n which_o our_o saviour_n christ_n also_o teach_v we_o that_o if_o we_o will_v see_v well_o to_o pull_v out_o the_o more_o of_o sin_n in_o another_o man_n we_o shall_v first_o labour_v to_o take_v away_o the_o beam_n of_o sin_n in_o ourselves_o why_o call_v he_o it_o a_o beam_n in_o we_o and_o more_o in_o other_o because_o our_o own_o corruption_n be_v or_o aught_o to_o be_v far_o better_a know_v to_o we_o than_o the_o corruption_n of_o other_o man_n we_o shall_v be_v best_o acquaint_v with_o our_o own_o infirmity_n and_o know_v that_o there_o be_v in_o we_o a_o bottomless_a pit_n of_o corruption_n which_o paul_n see_v when_o he_o say_v that_o of_o all_o sinner_n he_o be_v the_o chief_a that_o be_v he_o have_v the_o great_a light_n of_o his_o own_o want_n and_o be_v most_o familiar_a with_o his_o own_o corruption_n wherefore_o we_o must_v first_o judge_v ourselves_o and_o cast_v the_o first_o stone_n at_o ourselves_o we_o
