ourselves_o wise_a than_o god_n and_o to_o censure_v he_o for_o his_o proceed_n again_o this_o be_v a_o evident_a token_n that_o man_n be_v proud_a when_o they_o be_v ready_a to_o scorn_v at_o a_o admonition_n or_o a_o reproof_n that_o be_v give_v unto_o they_o for_o that_o argue_v that_o they_o have_v a_o very_a good_a opinion_n of_o themselves_o and_o of_o their_o action_n when_o they_o can_v abide_v that_o any_o shall_v find_v fault_n with_o they_o or_o go_v about_o to_o reform_v they_o david_n be_v otherwise_o affect_v 13._o when_o the_o prophet_n nathan_n come_v unto_o he_o with_o a_o sharp_a reprehension_n 51._o and_o when_o abigall_n meet_v he_o with_o a_o wise_a admonition_n and_o job_n bring_v this_o as_o a_o argument_n of_o his_o uprightness_n 32._o that_o he_o dare_v not_o contemn_v the_o judgement_n of_o his_o seruamt_v no_o not_o of_o his_o maid_n servant_n 13._o if_o they_o have_v any_o matter_n to_o object_n against_o he_o and_o therefore_o let_v such_o as_o be_v enrage_v or_o imbitteter_v against_o their_o reproover_n or_o admonisher_n know_v that_o they_o be_v far_o from_o that_o modesty_n and_o meekness_n of_o spirit_n that_o be_v in_o these_o holy_a man_n of_o god_n last_o this_o be_v a_o sure_a note_n of_o pride_n when_o man_n do_v much_o regard_v earthly_a thing_n and_o promise_v unto_o themselves_o a_o kind_n of_o happiness_n in_o the_o enjoyment_n thereof_o 17._o in_o which_o regard_n the_o apostle_n will_v timothy_n to_o charge_v rich_a man_n that_o they_o be_v not_o high_a mind_v and_o that_o they_o do_v not_o trust_v in_o uncertain_a riches_n imply_v thereby_o that_o so_o much_o confidence_n as_o there_o be_v in_o wordly_a substance_n so_o much_o high-mindednes_a there_o be_v in_o the_o party_n so_o addict_v the_o more_o man_n trust_v in_o god_n the_o more_o humble_a they_o will_v be_v but_o the_o more_o they_o trust_v in_o their_o wealth_n the_o more_o high-minded_a they_o will_v be_v if_o man_n will_v try_v themselves_o by_o this_o touchstone_n they_o shall_v easy_o discern_v abundance_n of_o pride_n in_o themselves_o for_o who_o almost_o be_v there_o but_o do_v think_v himself_o the_o better_a and_o safe_a for_o the_o very_o have_v of_o earthly_a thing_n and_o who_o do_v not_o judge_v his_o case_n more_o miserable_a mere_o for_o the_o want_n of_o these_o deceitful_a vanity_n let_v we_o therefore_o sift_v our_o own_o heart_n and_o by_o these_o and_o the_o like_a fruit_n of_o pride_n learn_v to_o judge_v what_o abundance_n of_o this_o poison_a sap_n there_o be_v within_o us._n and_o then_o perceive_v how_o liable_a we_o be_v unto_o many_o fearful_a stroke_n of_o god_n by_o reason_n thereof_o let_v we_o careful_o use_v these_o remedy_n follow_v against_o the_o same_o first_o let_v we_o often_o search_v and_o try_v our_o own_o heart_n and_o work_n by_o the_o right_a rule_n pride_n that_o be_v by_o the_o holy_a law_n of_o god_n for_o none_o be_v lift_v up_o but_o such_o as_o do_v not_o know_v themselves_o for_o if_o we_o right_o consider_v what_o we_o be_v and_o what_o our_o action_n be_v it_o will_v take_v down_o all_o that_o foolish_a conceitednes_n that_o be_v natural_o ingraft_v in_o we_o and_o cause_v we_o to_o say_v with_o the_o publican_n lord_n be_v merciful_a to_o i_o a_o sinner_n and_o with_o paul_n miserable_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o the_o body_n of_o this_o death_n 13._o he_o be_v alive_a 24._o that_o be_v think_v himself_o alive_a and_o in_o very_o good_a case_n before_o the_o law_n come_v &_o convince_v he_o of_o his_o wretched_a corruption_n he_o be_v even_o as_o a_o blind_a man_n that_o fear_v nothing_o though_o a_o man_n come_v run_v upon_o he_o with_o a_o sharp_a sword_n or_o he_o be_v ready_a to_o fall_v down_o violent_o from_o a_o high_a and_o dangerous_a rock_n he_o will_v never_o be_v daunt_v at_o the_o matter_n nor_o one_o whit_n move_v because_o he_o see_v not_o that_o he_o be_v in_o any_o danger_n such_o be_v paul_n case_n and_o such_o be_v the_o state_n of_o every_o unregenerate_a man_n but_o when_o god_n law_n be_v once_o press_v upon_o the_o conscience_n by_o the_o lively_a work_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n it_o enlighten_v the_o mind_n and_o make_v man_n see_v their_o own_o sinfulness_n as_o paul_n do_v which_o be_v a_o excellent_a mean_n to_o kill_v all_o proud_a and_o lofty_a conceit_n if_o therefore_o we_o desire_v to_o be_v rid_v of_o this_o hateful_a and_o hurtful_a companion_n i_o mean_v pride_n let_v we_o often_o and_o earnest_o examine_v ourselves_o by_o this_o straight_a rule_n of_o god_n law_n we_o be_v give_v to_o try_v ourselves_o often_o by_o examine_v whether_o we_o be_v not_o better_o than_o such_o a_o man_n or_o such_o a_o woman_n but_o this_o be_v a_o false_a and_o a_o deceitful_a rule_n for_o a_o man_n may_v be_v better_o than_o such_o and_o such_o and_o yet_o be_v stark_o naught_o but_o the_o proud_a flesh_n will_v be_v ready_a to_o object_n object_n and_o say_v i_o do_v not_o only_o go_v beyond_o these_o and_o these_o wicked_a one_o but_o i_o be_o better_a than_o diverse_a that_o be_v esteem_v godly_a and_o religious_a be_v you_o so_o answer_n you_o may_v easy_o be_v deceive_v and_o the_o better_a conceit_n you_o have_v of_o yourself_o the_o worse_a you_o be_v likely_a to_o be_v but_o grant_v for_o the_o time_n that_o you_o excel_v other_o in_o some_o thing_n do_v not_o they_o go_v before_o you_o in_o some_o other_o you_o have_v a_o better_a government_n of_o your_o tongue_n than_o many_o of_o your_o neighbour_n but_o be_v you_o not_o more_o gross_o taint_v with_o covetousness_n than_o they_o be_v you_o have_v a_o better_a gift_n of_o chastity_n than_o another_o but_o do_v not_o he_o less_o offend_v in_o violent_a distemper_a passion_n than_o you_o do_v and_o
