strict_a in_o your_o way_n you_o will_v loose_v all_o your_o comfort_n for_o such_o and_o such_o be_v always_o sad_a and_o pensive_a but_o do_v you_o know_v what_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o their_o sadness_n you_o have_v as_o much_o cause_n to_o be_v sad_a as_o they_o the_o burden_n be_v not_o because_o they_o be_v religious_a but_o because_o they_o be_v no_o more_o religious_a not_o because_o now_o they_o do_v more_o duty_n than_o they_o do_v before_o but_o because_o they_o can_v find_v their_o heart_n come_v up_o to_o their_o duty_n as_o they_o will_v do_v not_o attribute_n their_o grief_n to_o their_o godliness_n but_o rather_o say_v to_o thyself_o thus_o if_o they_o that_o do_v so_o much_o for_o god_n be_v yet_o so_o much_o trouble_v and_o grieve_v because_o they_o do_v no_o more_o for_o god_n how_o much_o cause_n of_o trouble_n and_o grief_n have_v i_o then_o that_o do_v nothing_o at_o all_o for_o god_n the_o second_o burden_n of_o corruption_n second_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n it_o be_v a_o burden_n of_o shame_n grief_n be_v a_o burden_n and_o shame_n be_v a_o burden_n many_o that_o can_v bear_v great_a burden_n that_o can_v bear_v the_o burden_n of_o poverty_n yet_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v the_o burden_n of_o disgrace_n especial_o to_o those_o that_o be_v most_o ingenious_a it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o great_a burden_n in_o the_o world_n now_o the_o saint_n they_o be_v ashamed_a of_o the_o corruption_n that_o remain_v in_o they_o they_o account_v it_o a_o shame_n before_o the_o lord_n and_o before_o his_o bless_a angel_n and_o in_o regard_n of_o themselves_o what_o they_o know_v of_o themselves_o that_o the_o world_n know_v not_o of_o they_o look_v upon_o it_o as_o ashame_n that_o they_o do_v even_o loath_a and_o abhor_v themselves_o as_o the_o scripture_n speak_v it_o may_v be_v their_o life_n be_v such_o as_o other_o do_v honour_n and_o have_v high_a thought_n of_o they_o but_o they_o be_v acquaint_v with_o their_o own_o heart_n and_o look_v into_o the_o secret_a work_n of_o their_o own_o spirit_n they_o see_v so_o much_o evil_n there_o as_o they_o see_v much_o cause_n to_o abhor_v and_o loathe_v themselves_o and_o to_o lie_v down_o in_o their_o shame_n before_o the_o lord_n who_o they_o know_v do_v see_v into_o their_o heart_n a_o great_a deal_n more_o than_o they_o can_v see_v themselves_o i_o will_v appeal_v to_o any_o one_o that_o know_v his_o own_o heart_n if_o god_n shall_v open_v your_o heart_n and_o make_v it_o know_v to_o your_o friend_n and_o acquaintance_n so_o much_o evil_a as_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n in_o the_o perform_n of_o one_o duty_n if_o all_o man_n shall_v know_v so_o much_o evil_a as_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n at_o one_o time_n in_o prayer_n or_o hear_v a_o sermon_n will_v you_o not_o be_v ashamed_a now_o god_n know_v and_o see_v all_o the_o baseness_n and_o vildness_n of_o your_o spirit_n and_o the_o godly_a know_v this_o they_o can_v but_o be_v ashamed_a and_o go_v under_o this_o burden_n of_o shame_n with_o heavy_a heart_n the_o three_o burden_n of_o corruption_n three_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o godly_a it_o carry_v with_o it_o a_o burden_n of_o fear_n fear_v you_o know_v be_v a_o great_a burden_n as_o well_o as_o grief_n and_o shame_n though_o the_o evil_n be_v not_o so_o great_a upon_o they_o yet_o if_o their_o be_v a_o evil_n apprehend_v to_o come_v upon_o they_o it_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n to_o they_o as_o those_o that_o dare_v not_o go_v out_o of_o door_n in_o the_o night_n because_o of_o fear_n or_o dare_v not_o be_v in_o the_o dark_a because_o of_o fear_n when_o they_o be_v deliver_v from_o their_o fear_n do_v they_o not_o account_v that_o it_o be_v a_o great_a but_o yet_o it_o make_v they_o walk_v heavy_o other_o fear_v sometime_o they_o fear_v man_n fear_v those_o that_o will_v come_v and_o take_v away_o their_o estate_n and_o undo_v they_o fear_v their_o enemy_n or_o fear_v the_o devil_n but_o one_o that_o be_v godly_a he_o fear_v more_o his_o own_o heart_n the_o evil_a that_o may_v come_v to_o his_o soul_n by_o that_o than_o all_o the_o hurt_n that_o all_o the_o devil_n in_o hell_n can_v do_v to_o he_o for_o they_o can_v afflict_v more_o than_o the_o body_n i_o but_o this_o bring_v a_o evil_a upon_o the_o soul_n it_o break_v their_o communion_n and_o so_o they_o go_v under_o this_o burden_n of_o fear_n along_o time_n together_o even_o those_o that_o be_v true_o godly_a the_o four_o burden_n of_o corruption_n four_o the_o remain_a part_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v a_o burden_n of_o care_n for_o man_n and_o woman_n to_o be_v always_o careful_a to_o be_v full_a of_o care_n you_o know_v that_o be_v a_o that_o christ_n be_v our_o sanctification_n but_o we_o have_v not_o find_v such_o sanctification_n from_o christ_n to_o increase_v holiness_n but_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n you_o have_v exercise_v your_o faith_n upon_o christ_n main_o that_o you_o may_v have_v peace_n that_o you_o may_v have_v enlargement_n and_o comfort_n as_o other_o have_v and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o your_o holiness_n be_v scant_o if_o you_o have_v exercise_v your_o faith_n in_o christ_n that_o you_o may_v have_v holiness_n than_o you_o may_v have_v have_v more_o peace_n say_v christ_n be_v it_o unto_o thou_o according_a to_o thy_o faith_n so_o in_o this_o case_n christ_n say_v to_o every_o believer_n be_v it_o according_a to_o thy_o faith_n according_a to_o what_o you_o exercise_v your_o faith_n so_o be_v it_o unto_o you_o as_o do_v you_o exercise_v your_o faith_n for_o peace_n and_o comfort_n and_o main_o for_o that_o you_o have_v some_o peace_n and_o comfort_n but_o you_o shall_v not_o have_v so_o much_o holiness_n but_o do_v you_o exercise_v your_o faith_n for_o holiness_n most_o then_o you_o shall_v have_v most_o holiness_n now_o certain_o a_o true_a christian_n prize_v holiness_n rather_o than_o peace_n and_o i_o know_v no_o sure_a argument_n for_o the_o truth_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o difference_n between_o a_o hypocrite_n and_o one_o that_o have_v true_a grace_n than_o this_o the_o hypocrite_n will_v have_v holiness_n that_o he_o may_v have_v peace_n i_o but_o the_o true_a believer_n will_v have_v peace_n that_o his_o peace_n may_v increase_v his_o holiness_n second_o another_o rule_n be_v this_o though_o christ_n do_v give_v in_o grace_n increase_v of_o sanctification_n and_o holiness_n yet_o do_v not_o depend_v upon_o what_o christ_n give_v in_o for_o the_o present_a but_o still_o keep_v thy_o heart_n sensible_a of_o the_o need_n of_o new_a supply_n there_o be_v many_o christian_n when_o they_o have_v be_v at_o duty_n and_o have_v exercise_v faith_n upon_o christ_n for_o this_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n and_o have_v get_v somewhat_o some_o enlargement_n and_o some_o quicken_n of_o spirit_n and_o some_o resolution_n in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n here_o they_o rest_v and_o now_o they_o think_v they_o be_v well_o they_o think_v to_o live_v upon_o this_o stock_n a_o great_a while_n but_o now_o we_o be_v to_o pray_v for_o our_o daily_a bread_n and_o to_o depend_v upon_o christ_n for_o new_a supply_n of_o grace_n and_o holiness_n every_o day_n every_o moment_n according_a to_o every_o work_n that_o we_o be_v set_v about_o to_o go_v to_o christ_n for_o new_a supply_n as_o if_o we_o have_v nothing_o at_o all_o give_v we_o before_o and_o christ_n will_v be_v well_o please_v with_o this_o that_o though_o we_o have_v never_o so_o much_o grace_n yet_o to_o go_v to_o he_o to_o renew_v our_o faith_n as_o if_o we_o have_v none_o at_o all_o that_o iâ—_n as_o strong_o i_o do_v not_o mean_v that_o we_o shall_v apprehend_v that_o we_o have_v none_o at_o all_o but_o as_o strong_o and_o eager_o to_o exercise_v faith_n upon_o christ_n for_o new_a supply_n of_o holiness_n as_o if_o we_o have_v none_o at_o all_o and_o indeed_o those_o that_o seem_v to_o have_v none_o exercise_n faith_n in_o christ_n most_o three_o for_o conclusion_n of_o all_o take_v this_o as_o a_o rule_n those_o christian_n that_o do_v most_o converse_v with_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o bless_a way_n of_o the_o gospel_n those_o will_v increase_v most_o in_o grace_n and_o they_o have_v this_o by_o way_n of_o sanctification_n i_o will_v give_v you_o but_o only_o that_o one_o scripture_n in_o way_n of_o allusion_n to_o apply_v it_o to_o this_o in_o act_n 4_o 13._o now_o when_o they_o see_v the_o boldness_n of_o peter_n and_o john_n and_o perceive_v their_o mean_n perhaps_o be_v not_o more_o their_o outward_a mean_n their_o part_n in_o nature_n be_v not_o more_o whence_o grow_v it_o then_o will_v you_o know_v whence_o they_o have_v be_v with_o jesus_n they_o converse_v much_o with_o christ_n and_o you_o may_v have_v it_o too_o the_o reason_n why_o you_o have_v be_v a_o professor_n perhaps_o twenty_o or_o thirty_o year_n and_o you_o now_o grow_v old_a and_o yet_o perhaps_o weak_a still_o and_o it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o can_v be_v say_v of_o you_o that_o there_o be_v some_o hope_n that_o there_o be_v some_o good_a in_o you_o but_o for_o the_o seed_n and_o spark_n of_o divine_a nature_n that_o be_v in_o other_o spirit_n there_o be_v no_o such_o matter_n at_o all_o what_o be_v the_o reason_n because_o they_o be_v not_o acquaint_v sin_n that_o it_o feel_v &_o apprehend_v itself_o to_o lie_v under_o such_o a_o weight_n as_o no_o creature_n in_o heaven_n or_o earth_n be_v able_a to_o take_v away_o &_o if_o there_o come_v not_o some_o power_n beyond_o the_o power_n of_o any_o creature_n here_o must_v i_o lie_v down_o and_o be_v press_v eternal_o under_o this_o weight_n as_o suppose_v a_o poor_a man_n shall_v lie_v under_o a_o grievous_a burden_n in_o some_o ditch_n or_o the_o like_a and_o there_o come_v it_o may_v be_v a_o child_n to_o he_o or_o there_o fly_v a_o bird_n over_o he_o or_o there_o run_v a_o dog_n by_o he_o but_o alas_o he_o think_v with_o himself_o i_o may_v lie_v long_o enough_o notwithstanding_o all_o these_o there_o must_v come_v some_o other_o strength_n to_o help_v i_o or_o else_o i_o must_v sure_o perish_v so_o the_o soul_n lie_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o sin_n and_o think_v lord_n what_o a_o burden_n have_v i_o bring_v myself_o under_o so_o great_a that_o if_o all_o the_o man_n in_o the_o world_n or_o all_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n shall_v come_v to_o i_o they_o can_v help_v i_o they_o may_v speak_v good_a word_n to_o i_o but_o they_o can_v help_v i_o it_o be_v only_o the_o almighty_a power_n of_o god_n that_o be_v able_a to_o help_v i_o now_o the_o soul_n feel_v sin_n to_o some_o purpose_n when_o once_o it_o feel_v that_o there_o be_v no_o create_a power_n no_o finite_a power_n but_o
yet_o all_o this_o will_v not_o satisfy_v for_o what_o be_v past_a many_o when_o they_o have_v sin_v and_o their_o conscience_n be_v a_o little_a awake_v for_o it_o than_o they_o think_v to_o live_v better_a and_o to_o do_v otherwise_o afterward_o as_o if_o they_o will_v make_v amends_o for_o what_o be_v do_v before_o but_o you_o must_v know_v that_o this_o be_v a_o mere_a deceit_n and_o will_v not_o satisfy_v you_o must_v come_v to_o i_o say_v christ_n you_o must_v come_v to_o christ_n and_o believe_v in_o he_o or_o otherwise_o all_o that_o you_o can_v do_v will_v never_o make_v amends_o you_o will_v say_v if_o we_o can_v make_v amends_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o we_o it_o be_v true_a if_o there_o be_v not_o a_o saviour_n a_o christ_n our_o condition_n be_v sad_a certain_o amends_o must_v be_v make_v but_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o ever_o you_o can_v make_v amends_o and_o this_o you_o must_v think_v of_o you_o must_v not_o only_o think_v of_o what_o you_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v for_o the_o time_n that_o be_v to_o come_v but_o how_o the_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n shall_v be_v make_v up_o for_o that_o which_o be_v past_a &_o when_o the_o sinner_n come_v to_o think_v of_o which_o be_v past_a this_o will_v burden_v the_o soul_n and_o the_o soul_n will_v feel_v upon_o this_o such_o a_o burden_n that_o nothing_o in_o the_o world_n can_v give_v it_o rest_v tell_v it_o come_v to_o christ_n if_o we_o do_v apprehend_v this_o we_o will_v see_v that_o our_o condition_n out_o of_o christ_n be_v a_o restless_a condition_n and_o this_o invitation_n of_o christ_n will_v be_v very_o acceptable_a now_o because_o i_o be_v loath_a to_o tell_v you_o of_o rest_n before_o i_o have_v open_v a_o little_a this_o burden_n for_o otherwise_o you_o may_v say_v as_o those_o jew_n upon_o the_o child_n of_o man_n under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o now_o have_v enter_v into_o a_o second_o covenant_n through_o his_o son_n and_o there_o have_v provide_v a_o way_n for_o their_o salvation_n which_o can_v not_o be_v in_o the_o other_o covenant_n we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o the_o law_n do_v accept_v of_o no_o repentance_n now_o o_o what_o a_o bondage_n be_v this_o that_o when_o i_o be_o sorrowful_a for_o my_o sin_n and_o think_v that_o god_n will_v pardon_v i_o than_o i_o be_o curse_v by_o such_o a_o law_n that_o will_v accept_v of_o no_o repentance_n but_o when_o we_o come_v to_o christ_n there_o godly_a sorrow_n be_v accept_v of_o and_o it_o be_v say_v to_o be_v sorrow_n unto_o life_n but_o that_o be_v the_o privilege_n of_o those_o that_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n in_o christ_n therefore_o consider_v serious_o of_o this_o point_n that_o you_o may_v make_v a_o difference_n between_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o a_o covenant_n christ_n and_o to_o have_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n have_v only_a conviction_n of_o conscience_n and_o be_v put_v upon_o duty_n there_o be_v such_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n and_o such_o evil_a principle_n in_o all_o man_n natural_o that_o be_v as_o wind_n and_o tide_n against_o those_o duty_n and_o yet_o say_v conscience_n you_o must_v do_v they_o though_o you_o find_v your_o inclination_n to_o be_v never_o so_o strong_a another_o way_n yet_o conscience_n tell_v you_o you_o must_v do_v they_o and_o when_o god_n be_v please_v to_o put_v strength_n into_o conscience_n it_o will_v make_v a_o man_n or_o a_o woman_n to_o go_v on_o in_o duty_n though_o it_o be_v never_o so_o cross_a to_o their_o own_o nature_n you_o will_v say_v if_o it_o be_v cross_a to_o their_o own_o nature_n why_o do_v they_o not_o leave_v it_o off_o no_o they_o dare_v not_o notwithstanding_o so_o it_o be_v true_a we_o shall_v show_v you_o afterward_o that_o even_o godly_a man_n and_o beleiver_n be_v burden_v with_o corruption_n they_o have_v contrary_a principle_n to_o the_o duty_n too_o i_o but_o they_o be_v not_o so_o prevail_v as_o with_o unbeliever_n that_o be_v only_o legal_a it_o be_v away_o and_o grow_v more_o weary_a afterward_o then_o at_o first_o but_o the_o more_o they_o have_v experience_n of_o the_o way_n the_o more_o strength_n they_o have_v they_o grow_v warm_a at_o their_o work_n and_o be_v warm_a they_o get_v further_o and_o further_a strength_n and_o it_o grow_v easy_a unto_o they_o but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o one_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o mere_a legal_a way_n some_o have_v be_v seven_o year_n in_o a_o profesion_n of_o religion_n and_o make_v conscience_n of_o their_o duty_n yet_o after_o seven_o year_n spend_v their_o heart_n no_o more_o mortify_v then_o at_o first_o and_o they_o have_v get_v no_o more_o strength_n then_o at_o first_o their_o lust_n be_v less_o mortify_v and_o their_o strength_n be_v less_o than_o at_o first_o and_o therefore_o their_o work_n must_v needs_o be_v grievous_a unto_o they_o the_o 4._o burden_n of_o legal_a performance_n 4._o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n mere_o while_o they_o be_v strive_v to_o do_v their_o duty_n they_o be_v contract_v still_o further_a guilt_n upon_o their_o soul_n they_o strive_v to_o do_v that_o that_o the_o law_n require_v and_o in_o their_o burdensome_a 1._o for_o first_o they_o be_v continual_o fight_v against_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n and_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o heart_n the_o flesh_n lust_v against_o the_o spirit_n now_o to_o have_v a_o continual_a fight_v and_o combat_v in_o the_o soul_n be_v it_o not_o very_o burdensome_a as_o a_o family_n where_o there_o be_v a_o continual_a fall_v out_o never_o a_o day_n servant_n fly_v in_o the_o face_n one_o of_o a_o other_o that_o will_v be_v burdensome_a now_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n there_o be_v the_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n continual_o fight_v one_o against_o another_o be_v not_o war_n in_o a_o kingdom_n a_o burden_n and_o especial_o when_o man_n shall_v fight_v to_o make_v themselves_o slave_n as_o i_o say_v before_o will_v any_o man_n ever_o have_v think_v it_o possible_a that_o there_o shall_v be_v such_o folly_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o any_o in_o england_n to_o fight_v to_o make_v themselves_o and_o their_o posterity_n slave_n that_o that_o no_o body_n can_v understand_v the_o cause_n of_o it_o but_o themselves_o 3._o and_o then_o the_o stir_v of_o corruption_n be_v violent_a the_o stir_v of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v many_o time_n extreme_a violent_a and_o outrageous_a the_o devil_n stir_v up_o their_o corruption_n and_o indeed_o the_o corruption_n themselves_o be_v as_o it_o be_v devil_n in_o they_o that_o do_v as_o the_o devil_n that_o be_v ready_a to_o be_v cast_v out_o of_o he_o that_o be_v possess_v he_o cause_v he_o to_o foam_v at_o the_o mouth_n so_o there_o be_v extreme_a violence_n of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n it_o be_v a_o lamentable_a conditition_n of_o the_o poor_a child_n that_o be_v possess_v in_o the_o gospel_n when_o the_o father_n come_v to_o christ_n for_o help_v because_o when_o the_o evil_a spirit_n come_v it_o cast_v he_o into_o the_o fire_n and_o into_o the_o water_n so_o corruption_n be_v so_o violent_a in_o
the_o heart_n of_o the_o godly_a that_o it_o be_v ready_a to_o cast_v they_o into_o the_o fire_n and_o into_o the_o water_n to_o do_v those_o thing_n that_o be_v against_o their_o own_o inclination_n against_o their_o prayer_n against_o their_o resolution_n against_o their_o vow_n against_o their_o covenant_n though_o they_o see_v such_o a_o thing_n to_o be_v evil_a be_v convince_v of_o it_o though_o they_o find_v a_o strong_a inclination_n against_o the_o evil_a though_o they_o have_v be_v at_o prayer_n to_o god_n to_o help_v they_o against_o it_o though_o they_o resolve_v with_o the_o that_o it_o carry_v and_o hurry_v they_o on_o in_o way_n of_o evil_n notwithstanding_o 4._o again_o the_o motion_n and_o stir_v of_o corruption_n be_v very_o burdensome_a unto_o the_o saint_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o confuse_a disorder_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o motion_n of_o their_o corruption_n there_o be_v much_o disorder_n and_o confusion_n in_o the_o heart_n when_o corruption_n do_v stir_v which_o cause_v much_o disturbance_n what_o cause_v more_o disturbance_n in_o a_o state_n in_o a_o family_n in_o a_o town_n then_o confusion_n and_o disorder_n nothing_o be_v more_o disorderly_a and_o confuse_a then_o the_o corruption_n in_o our_o heart_n and_o therefore_o burdensome_a it_o cause_v much_o perplexity_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n because_o they_o find_v their_o corruption_n work_v and_o stir_v in_o such_o a_o confuse_a way_n they_o find_v sometime_o when_o they_o be_v in_o duty_n such_o strange_a confuse_a work_v of_o their_o heart_n that_o it_o be_v a_o extreme_a burden_n upon_o they_o 5._o further_o the_o corruption_n of_o the_o heart_n work_v very_o malicious_o and_o therefore_o the_o more_o burdensome_a that_o be_v it_o watch_v especial_o time_n and_o so_o though_o i_o find_v it_o stir_v at_o other_o time_n yet_o if_o it_o will_v let_v i_o alone_o at_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n but_o it_o come_v at_o that_o time_n especial_o you_o will_v have_v evil_a thought_n at_o prayer_n more_o than_o ever_o you_o have_v and_o at_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n light_a work_n of_o spirit_n more_o than_o at_o other_o time_n and_o not_o only_o at_o the_o word_n but_o if_o there_o be_v but_o one_o truth_n that_o do_v more_o near_o concern_v the_o good_a of_o your_o soul_n then_o another_o you_o shall_v find_v your_o corruption_n to_o hinder_v you_o then_o more_o than_o at_o another_o time_n and_o so_o at_o the_o sacrament_n and_o fast_v there_o it_o will_v be_v more_o work_v then_o at_o another_o time_n 6._o yea_o and_o further_o if_o there_o be_v any_o time_n that_o through_o god_n mercy_n in_o a_o day_n of_o prayer_n fast_v and_o the_o like_a if_o you_o can_v get_v your_o heart_n to_o any_o comfortable_a frame_n brokenness_n of_o heart_n renew_v resolution_n to_o walk_v in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n more_o strict_o than_o before_o as_o many_o time_n it_o be_v in_o day_n of_o fast_v and_o prayer_n above_o all_o time_n will_v your_o corruption_n be_v stir_v after_o that_o more_o than_o any_o time_n thus_o malicious_o when_o it_o may_v do_v you_o the_o great_a michief_n than_o it_o will_v be_v most_o work_v now_o what_o a_o burden_n be_v this_o to_o the_o soul_n as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o christ_n in_o matth._n the_o latter_a end_n there_o you_o have_v the_o story_n of_o christ_n baptism_n and_o when_o he_o be_v baptize_v then_o come_v the_o holy_a ghost_n upon_o he_o in_o the_o likeness_n of_o a_o dove_n and_o this_o manfestation_n of_o god_n from_o heaven_n this_o be_v my_o belove_a sonn_n in_o who_o i_o be_o well_o please_v well_o present_o say_v the_o text_n he_o be_v lead_v into_o the_o wilderness_n to_o be_v tempt_v of_o the_o devil_n god_n be_v in_o the_o work_n but_o the_o devil_n be_v malicious_a against_o he_o present_o after_o a_o glorious_a manifestation_n of_o god_n the_o father_n to_o he_o as_o it_o be_v with_o christ_n your_o saviour_n so_o you_o must_v expect_v it_o will_v be_v with_o you_o so_o it_o will_v many_o time_n be_v with_o you_o when_o at_o any_o time_n you_o have_v get_v your_o heart_n up_o to_o god_n in_o a_o day_n of_o fast_v prayer_n or_o the_o like_a and_o have_v get_v some_o sense_n of_o god_n love_n take_v heed_n of_o security_n at_o that_o time_n more_o than_o at_o all_o time_n and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o you_o shall_v find_v if_o you_o observe_v it_o that_o very_o often_o after_o a_o day_n of_o fast_v after_o such_o a_o day_n that_o you_o have_v get_v most_o in_o if_o not_o the_o very_a night_n yet_o the_o next_o day_n you_o will_v find_v strong_a work_n of_o the_o corruption_n of_o your_o heret_n to_o keep_v they_o down_o immediate_o after_o that_o time_n for_o the_o stir_n of_o corruption_n they_o be_v very_o malicious_a and_o watch_v for_o the_o time_n that_o they_o may_v do_v we_o the_o great_a mischief_n of_o al._n 7._o further_o the_o stir_v of_o the_o corruption_n that_o remain_v in_o we_o be_v very_o burdensome_a in_o regard_n of_o their_o unseasonableness_n by_o that_o i_o mean_v this_o to_o speak_v plain_o to_o your_o heart_n the_o stir_n of_o our_o corruption_n if_o we_o shall_v gratify_v they_o many_o time_n yield_v to_o they_o as_o it_o be_v for_o peace_n sake_n as_o sometime_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v so_o trouble_v with_o the_o work_n of_o corruption_n that_o they_o think_v they_o must_v needs_o yield_v that_o they_o may_v be_v quiet_a well_o if_o thou_o shall_v yield_v to_o they_o to_o quiet_v they_o they_o will_v come_v upon_o thou_o more_o and_o more_o with_o great_a strength_n they_o will_v come_v upon_o thou_o then_o before_o as_o now_o if_o any_o one_o that_o be_v troublesome_a to_o we_o in_o seek_v to_o get_v such_o and_o such_o a_o thing_n of_o we_o and_o at_o length_n because_o of_o trouble_n to_o we_o we_o yield_v to_o they_o than_o afterward_o they_o grow_v more_o and_o more_o upon_o we_o encroach_v more_o and_o more_o upon_o we_o and_o be_v very_o troublesome_a and_o burdensome_a to_o we_o it_o be_v so_o in_o the_o stir_n of_o corruption_n if_o you_o yield_v to_o your_o corruption_n for_o one_o thing_n it_o come_v more_o and_o more_o upon_o you_o so_o that_o the_o only_a quiet_a you_o can_v have_v be_v by_o be_v at_o open_a defiance_n with_o they_o now_o this_o be_v another_o thing_n whereby_o the_o corruption_n of_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n people_n be_v very_o burdensome_a to_o they_o 8._o last_o the_o corruption_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n people_n be_v very_o burdensome_a because_o they_o be_v very_o prevail_v this_o be_v a_o high_a degree_n they_o be_v burdensome_a in_o the_o root_n and_o then_o in_o the_o work_n they_o be_v more_o burdensome_a but_o then_o in_o the_o prevail_a they_o be_v yet_o more_o burdensome_a if_o so_o be_v a_o child_n of_o god_n that_o look_v into_o his_o hearâ—_n and_o find_v what_o a_o root_n of_o bitternese_n there_o be_v that_o make_v he_o go_v heavy_o all_o his_o day_n but_o now_o when_o he_o find_v such_o work_n and_o stir_v of_o corruption_n this_o trouble_v he_o more_o he_o think_v though_o i_o have_v such_o a_o curse_a nature_n though_o i_o can_v keep_v down_o the_o motion_n and_o stir_n of_o my_o corruption_n yet_o if_o i_o can_v keep_v they_o from_o work_v yea_o though_o i_o can_v keep_v they_o from_o work_v yet_o if_o i_o can_v but_o keep_v they_o from_o prevail_v but_o alas_o they_o overcome_v i_o many_o time_n and_o this_o be_v the_o great_a burden_n of_o all_o that_o they_o prevail_v in_o our_o heart_n
burden_n to_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o heretofore_o have_v assurance_n of_o god_n love_n and_o be_v able_a to_o look_v in_o god_n face_n with_o joy_n to_o have_v this_o assurance_n shake_v yea_o many_o time_n it_o make_v god_n withdraw_v his_o countenance_n which_o make_v david_n cry_v out_o restore_v to_o i_o the_o joy_n of_o thy_o salvation_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v lord_n i_o be_v wont_a to_o have_v joy_n in_o thy_o company_n in_o communion_n with_o thou_o but_o thou_o have_v estrange_v thyself_o from_o my_o soul_n o_o lord_n restore_v unto_o i_o the_o joy_n of_o thy_o salvation_n now_o be_v not_o this_o a_o burden_n for_o thou_o to_o loose_v the_o sweetness_n of_o thy_o soul_n in_o communion_n with_o god_n that_o now_o though_o it_o may_v be_v it_o be_v through_o that_o now_o they_o have_v no_o rest_n in_o their_o soul_n but_o be_v lade_v with_o such_o a_o burden_n and_o cry_v out_o with_o the_o apostle_n oh_o wretched_a man_n and_o woman_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o let_v such_o a_o soul_n know_v that_o this_o text_n belong_v to_o they_o come_v unto_o i_o say_v christ_n and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v from_o this_o burden_n as_o well_o as_o the_o other_o burden_n and_o our_o rest_n be_v only_o in_o christ_n from_o this_o as_o well_o as_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o delicate_a and_o tender_a they_o be_v in_o their_o flesh_n have_v have_v very_o curious_a bring_v up_o or_o it_o may_v be_v their_o natural_a spirit_n be_v very_o delicate_a more_o than_o other_o man_n some_o man_n their_o natural_a spirit_n be_v more_o gross_a and_o can_v bear_v burden_n with_o less_o sense_n but_o now_o those_o that_o be_v more_o fine_a and_o delicate_a if_o you_o lay_v a_o burden_n upon_o they_o oh_o how_o burdensome_a be_v it_o unto_o they_o now_o grace_n make_v the_o constitution_n to_o be_v delicate_a fine_a and_o pure_a a_o pure_a constitution_n it_o put_v the_o heart_n into_o a_o most_o pure_a constitution_n and_o therefore_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n according_a to_o the_o remainer_n of_o it_o second_o where_o grace_n be_v corruption_n must_v needs_o be_v very_o burdensome_a in_o this_o regard_n also_o because_o that_o grace_n keep_v the_o soul_n in_o continual_a action_n and_o stir_v now_o look_v as_o a_o man_n as_o the_o break_n of_o the_o bone_n it_o must_v needs_o be_v very_o burdensome_a that_o which_o most_o hinder_v their_o activity_n of_o grace_n must_v needs_o be_v very_o burdensome_a you_o have_v need_v therefore_o take_v heed_n what_o you_o do_v when_o temptation_n to_o sin_n come_v take_v heed_n you_o do_v not_o break_v your_o bone_n and_o your_o leg_n why_o because_o when_o you_o have_v break_v they_o you_o must_v be_v still_o stir_v and_o act_v for_o god_n a_o poor_a man_n it_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n worse_o for_o he_o if_o he_o break_v his_o leg_n than_o a_o rich_a man_n a_o rich_a man_n may_v sit_v by_o the_o fire_n or_o lie_v in_o his_o bed_n a_o month_n together_o but_o a_o poor_a man_n if_o he_o break_v his_o leg_n he_o do_v not_o know_v what_o to_o do_v he_o must_v to_o work_n perhaps_o he_o can_v have_v that_o harbour_n that_o a_o rich_a man_n may_v have_v so_o i_o say_v those_o that_o be_v of_o sluggish_a spirit_n though_o corruption_n prevail_v it_o be_v not_o so_o grievous_a unto_o they_o but_o those_o that_o be_v of_o active_a spirit_n and_o have_v grace_n and_o the_o more_o grace_n that_o any_o man_n or_o woman_n have_v the_o more_o burdensome_a their_o corruption_n be_v because_o the_o more_o grace_n there_o be_v in_o the_o soul_n the_o more_o active_a it_o will_v be_v for_o god_n quest_n but_o you_o will_v say_v see_v the_o remain_v of_o corruption_n in_o the_o heurt_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v so_o burdensome_a why_o do_v god_n so_o order_v thing_n in_o his_o providence_n as_o his_o own_o dear_a saint_n shall_v be_v so_o trouble_v with_o their_o corruption_n while_o they_o live_v in_o this_o world_n god_n can_v deliver_v they_o from_o their_o corruption_n why_o will_v god_n make_v they_o cry_v out_o o_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n god_n can_v as_o well_o perfect_a our_o sanctification_n as_o our_o justification_n why_o do_v god_n thus_o order_v thing_n in_o his_o providence_n that_o his_o own_o dear_a saint_n shall_v groan_v under_o such_o a_o burden_n of_o corruption_n all_o their_o day_n answ_n for_o that_o brief_o thus_o though_o it_o be_v true_a that_o god_n can_v present_o take_v all_o our_o corruption_n as_o soon_o as_o ever_o we_o come_v to_o jesus_n christ_n god_n can_v deliver_v we_o from_o our_o corruption_n but_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o he_o have_v many_o holy_a end_n why_o he_o do_v suffer_v his_o own_o people_n to_o be_v under_o this_o burden_n while_o they_o live_v here_o in_o the_o flesh_n as._n first_o that_o hereby_o he_o may_v show_v forth_o his_o own_o power_n the_o power_n of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v exceed_v magnify_v in_o this_o that_o it_o can_v uphold_v little_a spark_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o a_o ocean_n of_o corruption_n that_o it_o can_v uphold_v poor_a weak_a creature_n under_o such_o burden_n and_o carry_v they_o on_o notwithstanding_o and_o bring_v they_o to_o eternal_a life_n the_o power_n and_o grace_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o the_o power_n of_o god_n be_v as_o much_o manifest_v in_o this_o thing_n as_o it_o be_v in_o keep_v heaven_n
and_o earth_n upon_o the_o frame_n or_o keep_v it_o in_o be_v the_o lord_n do_v not_o appear_v more_o to_o be_v a_o almighty_a god_n in_o keep_v heaven_n and_o earth_n in_o be_v than_o he_o do_v appear_v to_o be_v a_o almighty_a god_n in_o keep_v grace_n alive_a in_o the_o heart_n notwithstanding_o all_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n so_o that_o in_o this_o god_n have_v glory_n in_o another_o way_n than_o he_o have_v from_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n the_o power_n of_o god_n appear_v in_o uphold_v of_o the_o angel_n for_o if_o he_o do_v not_o uphold_v they_o they_o will_v fall_v into_o evil_n as_o adam_n and_o the_o other_o angel_n do_v but_o therein_o appear_v god_n glorious_a power_n to_o uphold_v the_o angel_n but_o the_o glorious_a power_n in_o uphold_v the_o angel_n do_v not_o so_o much_o appear_v as_o the_o glorious_a power_n of_o god_n in_o uphold_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o their_o corruption_n this_o shall_v be_v a_o special_a argument_n that_o the_o saint_n shall_v praise_v god_n for_o to_o all_o eternity_n when_o they_o shall_v look_v back_o and_o see_v what_o a_o condition_n they_o be_v in_o before_o their_o conversion_n yea_o in_o their_o conversion_n that_o though_o god_n grant_v they_o some_o grace_n yet_o what_o abundance_n of_o corruption_n be_v in_o their_o heart_n all_o that_o time_n and_o what_o a_o deal_n of_o stir_n they_o have_v to_o maintain_v that_o little_a grace_n they_o will_v stand_v and_o admire_v to_o consider_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v keep_v alive_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o sin_n that_o a_o little_a spark_n shall_v be_v keep_v alive_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o sea_n not_o only_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o sea_n but_o when_o the_o sea_n be_v tempestuous_a you_o yil_v say_v it_o be_v no_o great_a wonder_n that_o the_o fire_n be_v keep_v burn_v when_o the_o sea_n be_v calm_a but_o when_o all_o be_v in_o a_o storm_n and_o yet_o a_o spark_n of_o fire_n shall_v be_v keep_v alive_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o the_o toss_n of_o the_o wave_n you_o will_v grant_v here_o be_v a_o mighty_a power_n now_o the_o keep_v alive_a of_o grace_n in_o thy_o heart_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o so_o much_o corruption_n do_v argue_v as_o mighty_a a_o power_n in_o god_n 2._o the_o lord_n do_v so_o order_v it_o that_o still_o his_o own_o people_n shall_v be_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o much_o coruption_n in_o this_o regard_n because_o that_o hereby_o the_o lord_n draw_v forth_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n in_o his_o son_n in_o which_o his_o soul_n take_v infinite_a delight_n the_o soul_n of_o god_n take_v infinite_a delight_n in_o behold_v the_o work_n of_o the_o glorious_a grace_n of_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n but_o you_o will_v say_v wherein_o do_v it_o appear_v to_o be_v so_o glorious_a in_o regard_n of_o our_o corruption_n thus_o for_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n to_o believe_v in_o god_n that_o he_o will_v be_v eternal_o good_a to_o they_o it_o be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o for_o a_o poor_a soul_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o his_o corruption_n yet_o to_o be_v able_a to_o triumph_v in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n notwithstanding_o i_o be_o so_o vild_a filthy_a loathsome_a and_o abominable_a to_o myself_o and_o just_o god_n and_o his_o saint_n may_v count_v i_o a_o burden_n to_o they_o and_o cast_v i_o off_o for_o ever_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o my_o soul_n shall_v cling_v to_o he_o i_o will_v cast_v myself_o upon_o he_o and_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o gracious_a father_n a_o merciful_a god_n a_o god_n that_o love_v i_o a_o god_n that_o rejoice_v in_o do_v good_a to_o i_o for_o the_o soul_n to_o exercise_v faith_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n it_o be_v a_o glorious_a thing_n only_o take_v heed_n you_o do_v not_o mistake_v it_o for_o presumption_n object_n you_o will_v say_v for_o man_n notwithstanding_o all_o their_o sin_n to_o believe_v in_o god_n mercy_n this_o be_v rather_o presumption_n than_o faith_n answ_n true_o it_o be_v presumpion_n in_o many_o they_o mistake_v themselves_o but_o in_o other_o it_o be_v true_a faith_n and_o god_n delight_v in_o it_o and_o you_o shall_v know_v it_o by_o this_o it_o do_v draw_v the_o heart_n to_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n never_o find_v such_o a_o prevalent_a way_n to_o overcome_v those_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o it_o as_o to_o exercise_v their_o faith_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n i_o beseech_v you_o mark_v the_o difference_n between_o presumption_n and_o faith_n in_o christ_n presumption_n will_v trust_v in_o god_n mercy_n notwithstanding_o their_o sin_n but_o that_o do_v indeed_o foment_n their_o sin_n and_o make_v they_o secure_a in_o their_o sin_n make_v they_o the_o more_o secure_a in_o their_o sin_n but_o now_o when_o the_o soul_n shall_v by_o the_o true_a geminine_a act_n of_o faith_n rest_n in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o corruption_n if_o it_o be_v right_a such_o a_o soul_n feel_v no_o mean_n in_o the_o world_n of_o great_a efficacy_n to_o cure_v and_o prevail_v against_o corruption_n then_o this_o to_o trust_v in_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n notwithstanding_o corruption_n and_o if_o thou_o find_v it_o thus_o thou_o have_v no_o cause_n to_o fear_v trust_v in_o god_n grace_n with_o confidence_n for_o it_o be_v that_o which_o be_v well_o please_v unto_o god_n and_o that_o which_o the_o lord_n delight_v in_o and_o that_o which_o give_v as_o much_o content_n to_o god_n heart_n as_o the_o exercise_n of_o any_o grace_n whatsoever_o and_o in_o that_o regard_n because_o the_o saint_n shall_v never_o exercise_v such_o a_o act_n of_o faith_n in_o heaven_n â—s_v this_o god_n will_v have_v this_o in_o this_o world_n 3._o this_o be_v that_o that_o god_n see_v do_v drive_v his_o own_o people_n to_o he_o in_o prayer_n nothing_o drive_v the_o saint_n to_o god_n with_o more_o earnestness_n in_o prayer_n than_o the_o feel_n of_o the_o weight_n of_o corruption_n upon_o they_o than_o they_o go_v to_o god_n above_o all_o god_n never_o hear_v such_o strong_a cry_n come_v up_o to_o heaven_n in_o regard_n of_o any_o affliction_n as_o this_o and_o by_o the_o way_n you_o may_v find_v by_o this_o how_o your_o heart_n be_v when_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n be_v upon_o you_o in_o affliction_n than_o you_o will_v cry_v to_o god_n but_o i_o put_v this_o to_o you_o have_v there_o not_o come_v as_o strong_a cry_n to_o heaven_n upon_o the_o sense_n of_o your_o corruption_n as_o upon_o the_o sense_n of_o any_o affliction_n whatsoever_o 4._o the_o lord_n have_v glory_n in_o this_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o the_o work_n of_o repentance_n and_o humility_n the_o keep_v the_o soul_n of_o his_o people_n in_o humility_n and_o the_o contrition_n of_o their_o spirit_n that_o be_v exceed_o please_a to_o god_n the_o lord_n be_v near_o to_o a_o break_a contrite_a heart_n a_o melt_a mourn_a spirit_n the_o lord_n do_v delight_n in_o the_o evangelical_a work_n of_o repentance_n this_o please_v the_o lord_n the_o work_n of_o humiliation_n mourning_n and_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n in_o a_o evangelical_a way_n be_v a_o grace_n that_o be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n god_n shall_v have_v none_o of_o that_o in_o heaven_n and_o he_o have_v it_o therefore_o here_o 5._o god_n hereby_o exercise_v his_o wisdom_n exceed_o in_o bring_v light_n out_o of_o darkeness_n god_n do_v many_o time_n turn_v not_o only_o the_o affliction_n of_o his_o people_n to_o their_o good_a but_o he_o work_v good_a many_o time_n out_o of_o sin_n not_o that_o hereby_o we_o shall_v be_v bold_a shall_v see_v that_o the_o godly_a that_o have_v the_o most_o grace_n they_o have_v much_o corruption_n in_o they_o still_o they_o rejoice_v perhaps_o in_o it_o and_o they_o little_o think_v that_o deserve_v and_o those_o evil_a effect_n that_o shall_v come_v of_o it_o through_o the_o revenge_a justice_n of_o god_n christ_n have_v undertake_v it_o but_o yet_o it_o remain_v thy_o affliction_n though_o thou_o be_v deliver_v from_o guiltiness_n and_o condemnation_n yet_o one_o that_o have_v a_o gracious_a heart_n reason_n thus_o though_o i_o be_v deliver_v from_o my_o sin_n from_o the_o gild_n of_o it_o from_o the_o condemn_a power_n that_o the_o law_n have_v through_o my_o sin_n yet_o it_o be_v my_o affliction_n my_o trouble_n and_o so_o i_o look_v upon_o it_o now_o peace_n and_o rest_n be_v to_o that_o soul_n from_o what_o the_o law_n can_v require_v so_o that_o as_o we_o go_v along_o we_o may_v not_o only_o see_v the_o benefit_n we_o have_v by_o christ_n but_o who_o they_o be_v that_o be_v thus_o deliver_v those_o who_o though_o they_o know_v they_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o burden_n of_o it_o yet_o they_o do_v account_v their_o sin_n the_o affliction_n of_o their_o soul_n whereas_o other_o that_o be_v mere_o legal_a they_o apprehend_v their_o soul_n as_o guilty_a and_o under_o condemnation_n but_o if_o they_o be_v deliver_v from_o it_o they_o will_v look_v upon_o their_o sin_n as_o their_o wound_n and_o affliction_n the_o saint_n they_o see_v that_o they_o be_v now_o make_v the_o object_n of_o god_n pity_n and_o compassion_n towards_o they_o and_o hence_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o christ_n be_v willing_a if_o it_o be_v possible_a to_o find_v many_o excuse_n that_o may_v be_v make_v for_o his_o poor_a servant_n thou_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o find_v out_o any_o excuse_n if_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n that_o may_v alleviate_v and_o lessen_v thy_o sin_n christ_n will_v find_v it_o our_o and_o lessen_v it_o for_o thou_o you_o know_v what_o christ_n say_v to_o his_o disciple_n when_o they_o be_v sleep_v and_o can_v not_o watch_v one_o hour_n though_o he_o rebuke_n they_o yet_o he_o say_v though_o the_o flesh_n be_v weak_a yet_o the_o their_o care_n to_o lessen_v their_o sin_n but_o they_o do_v what_o they_o can_v to_o aggravate_v their_o sin_n and_o lay_v it_o upon_o their_o heart_n for_o the_o humble_v of_o their_o soul_n but_o christ_n undertake_v to_o excuse_v they_o and_o therefore_o you_o that_o have_v so_o many_o excuse_n for_o your_o sin_n just_a as_o your_o grandfather_n adam_n have_v he_o put_v it_o off_o to_o the_o woman_n and_o the_o woman_n unto_o the_o serpent_n and_o one_o to_o another_o so_o you_o it_o be_v true_a my_o nature_n be_v passionate_a and_o i_o be_o froward_a by_o nature_n and_o a_o hundred_o thyself_o as_o when_o a_o child_n or_o servant_n shall_v offend_v and_o one_o that_o be_v a_o near_a friend_n or_o neighbour_n shall_v come_v and_o excuse_v they_o this_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n better_o than_o if_o they_o do_v it_o themselves_o now_o those_o that_o be_v under_o the_o law_n they_o have_v no_o excuse_n to_o be_v make_v for_o they_o but_o those_o that_o be_v come_v to_o christ_n they_o have_v christ_n to_o make_v all_o the_o excuse_n for_o they_o oh_o take_v heed_n of_o abuse_v the_o rich_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n this_o i_o know_v that_o this_o be_v such_o a_o pure_a quality_n that_o it_o have_v not_o such_o a_o malignant_a quality_n in_o it_o that_o it_o will_v be_v abuse_v and_o where_o you_o see_v any_o such_o quality_n know_v that_o they_o have_v it_o not_o aright_o they_o have_v something_o else_o instead_o of_o the_o thing_n as_o sometime_o you_o shall_v see_v two_o thing_n as_o like_v one_o another_o as_o can_v be_v suppose_v drink_v make_v with_o some_o kind_n of_o composition_n they_o shall_v look_v just_a like_o one_o another_o but_o one_o shall_v have_v some_o venom_n in_o it_o enough_o to_o kill_v one_o and_o the_o other_o shall_v be_v wholesome_a and_o able_a to_o recover_v one_o yet_o both_o shall_v have_v the_o same_o â—ur_n and_o the_o same_o taste_n so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o free_a grace_v in_o christ_n you_o may_v have_v the_o same_o word_n speak_v â—e_z thing_n express_v to_o one_o and_o to_o another_o the_o very_a same_o thing_n preach_v for_o the_o outside_n of_o it_o for_o the_o word_n for_o the_o expression_n in_o a_o sermon_n the_o same_o doctrine_n raise_v for_o the_o expression_n and_o yet_o they_o shall_v be_v so_o carry_v that_o one_o shall_v have_v a_o malignancy_n in_o it_o and_o the_o other_o shall_v have_v a_o sovereign_a power_n in_o it_o now_o when_o the_o soul_n have_v the_o true_a rest_n in_o christ_n that_o rest_n have_v not_o such_o a_o malignant_a power_n to_o make_v the_o heart_n worse_o by_o it_o but_o of_o that_o i_o shall_v speak_v more_o afterward_o eight_o when_o thou_o be_v come_v to_o christ_n thy_o soul_n

because_o they_o find_v sweetness_n in_o their_o work_n it_o be_v not_o with_o they_o as_o with_o â—ther_a man_n other_o man_n work_v that_o they_o may_v have_v wage_n afterward_o but_o all_o the_o while_o they_o be_v about_o their_o work_n they_o have_v truth_n come_v in_o and_o heavenly_a notion_n come_v in_o to_o they_o while_o they_o be_v about_o it_o and_o so_o make_v the_o work_n easy_a in_o unto_o he_o and_o herein_o be_v rest_n and_o ease_v in_o the_o performance_n of_o duty_n ten_o and_o last_o when_o the_o soul_n come_v to_o christ_n it_o find_v abundance_n of_o rest_n in_o holy_a duty_n because_o now_o it_o have_v the_o love_n of_o god_n shed_v abroad_o in_o its_o heart_n and_o that_o make_v every_o thing_n delightful_a to_o it_o the_o love_n of_o god_n be_v shed_v abroad_o in_o the_o heart_n you_o know_v jacob_n because_o he_o love_v rachel_n though_o he_o be_v abroad_o in_o frosty_a night_n he_o account_v it_o nothing_o because_o he_o love_v rachel_n oh_o rest_n of_o spirit_n in_o performance_n of_o holy_a duty_n do_v appear_v there_o be_v much_o more_o to_o be_v say_v in_o the_o latter_a end_n of_o the_o chapter_n when_o it_o be_v say_v that_o speak_v of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o perseverance_n &_o you_o be_v ready_a to_o think_v i_o but_o be_v it_o certain_a the_o soul_n that_o once_o come_v to_o have_v true_a grace_n shall_v certain_o persevere_v yes_o certain_o one_o that_o be_v once_o come_v to_o christ_n will_v not_o go_v from_o he_o again_o why_o because_o there_o be_v so_o much_o rest_n in_o holy_a duty_n it_o be_v true_a those_o that_o be_v draw_v to_o holy_a duty_n they_o will_v not_o abide_v as_o it_o be_v say_v the_o son_n abide_v in_o the_o house_n but_o a_o servant_n abide_v not_o always_o in_o the_o house_n so_o such_o as_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n they_o will_v be_v go_v they_o will_v not_o abide_v but_o now_o one_o that_o be_v come_v into_o christ_n and_o have_v a_o sonlike_a disposition_n he_o continue_v as_o we_o say_v in_o philosophy_n no_o violent_a thing_n or_o motion_n be_v perpetual_a and_o indeed_o those_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n a_o hundred_o to_o one_o but_o they_o will_v prove_v apostate_n at_o last_o but_o one_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o evangelical_n way_n will_v continue_v and_o hold_v out_o unto_o the_o end_n iii_o the_o main_a use_n of_o all_o be_v to_o stir_v up_o the_o heart_n of_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a to_o know_v what_o the_o gospel_n mean_v to_o exercise_v much_o faith_n in_o christ_n that_o they_o may_v have_v much_o comfort_n in_o performance_n of_o duty_n do_v not_o content_v thyself_o that_o thou_o do_v duty_n but_o think_v with_o thyself_o oh_o i_o have_v hear_v of_o such_o a_o way_n that_o christian_n in_o performance_n of_o duty_n find_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o rest_n and_o ease_n why_o shall_v not_o i_o get_v that_o way_n thou_o hear_v of_o it_o oh_o that_o thy_o soul_n may_v be_v unquiet_a till_o thou_o come_v to_o understand_v the_o way_n than_o your_o duty_n will_v be_v more_o sound_n more_o spiritual_a more_o supernatural_a more_o acceptable_a than_o they_o be_v the_o lord_n love_v a_o cheerful_a giver_n and_o so_o he_o love_v a_o cheerful_a server_n you_o love_v to_o hear_v your_o servant_n sing_v at_o their_o work_n but_o if_o you_o set_v your_o child_n or_o servant_n about_o a_o work_n and_o he_o go_v heavy_o and_o dull_o about_o be_v grumble_a and_o pine_v and_o think_v you_o to_o be_v a_o hard_a master_n than_o he_o do_v but_o a_o little_a work_n so_o they_o that_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n the_o truth_n be_v they_o perform_v little_a duty_n and_o that_o be_v not_o acceptable_a but_o when_o a_o soul_n come_v to_o find_v rest_n in_o duty_n it_o make_v it_o more_o spiritual_a more_o plentiful_a and_o more_o acceptable_a and_o those_o duty_n be_v very_o please_v unto_o the_o lord_n chap._n xxxvi_o show_v the_o rest_n from_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n to_o be_v sanctification_n and_o that_o to_o be_v a_o great_a rest_n lay_v open_a in_o six_o particular_n 1._o it_o be_v the_o right_a temper_n of_o the_o heart_n 2._o in_o it_o the_o soul_n do_v in_o great_a part_n attain_v its_o end_n 3._o in_o it_o the_o soul_n live_v the_o life_n of_o god_n 4._o it_o raise_v the_o soul_n above_o the_o region_n of_o all_o trouble_n 5._o it_o turn_v every_o thing_n to_o good_a 6._o it_o be_v the_o begin_n of_o glory_n you_o may_v remember_v when_o we_o handle_v the_o point_n of_o the_o load_n that_o be_v upon_o sinner_n we_o show_v that_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n be_v a_o great_a burden_n it_o be_v so_o great_a a_o load_n that_o it_o make_v the_o apostle_n cry_v out_o oh_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n how_o that_o be_v a_o load_n have_v be_v already_o open_v that_o which_o we_o have_v now_o to_o do_v be_v to_o show_v what_o rest_n be_v to_o be_v have_v in_o christ_n against_o this_o four_o burden_n come_v to_o i_o say_v christ_n all_o you_o who_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o corruption_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o find_v the_o remainder_n of_o sin_n that_o be_v in_o your_o heart_n to_o be_v a_o burden_n come_v to_o i_o &_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_n against_o that_o we_o be_v not_o now_o to_o speak_v of_o the_o rest_n in_o deliverance_n from_o the_o trouble_n of_o soul_n in_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n that_o be_v before_o speak_v of_o but_o now_o we_o be_v to_o speak_v of_o the_o rest_n in_o give_v power_n against_o the_o remainder_n of_o corruption_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n this_o rest_n be_v the_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n that_o here_o we_o be_v to_o speak_v of_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_n and_o in_o this_o point_n there_o be_v a_o great_a many_o of_o useful_a and_o sweet_a thing_n that_o may_v require_v very_o large_a handle_n but_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v as_o much_o as_o i_o can_v to_o contract_v all_o within_o a_o few_o thing_n for_o this_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n there_o be_v in_o it_o these_o five_o thing_n to_o be_v follow_v that_o you_o may_v see_v clear_o the_o method_n that_o i_o shall_v proceed_v in_o and_o so_o go_v along_o with_o i_o first_o i_o shall_v show_v you_o that_o sanctification_n be_v a_o great_a rest_n to_o the_o soul_n or_o deliverance_n from_o corruption_n be_v a_o great_a rest_n to_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o believer_n there_o be_v much_o rest_n in_o sanctification_n second_o that_o this_o rest_n it_o be_v in_o christ_n all_o our_o sanctification_n and_o help_v against_o corruption_n be_v in_o christ_n three_o how_o christ_n come_v to_o be_v this_o rest_n unto_o the_o soul_n four_o some_o consequence_n that_o will_v follow_v from_o this_o consideration_n of_o christ_n be_v the_o rest_n of_o sanctification_n unto_o the_o heart_n five_o conclude_v with_o exhortation_n to_o come_v unto_o
