their_o outward_a gesture_n or_o circumstance_n you_o be_v advise_v rather_o to_o abstain_v all_o your_o life_n from_o the_o lord_n supper_n than_o receive_v it_o kneel_v now_o if_o you_o think_v god_n do_v hate_v they_o so_o much_o upon_o supposition_n that_o he_o have_v not_o require_v they_o and_o account_v they_o a_o pollute_v of_o his_o ordinance_n how_o must_v it_o displease_v he_o to_o providence_n of_o god_n to_o declare_v his_o name_n to_o our_o brethren_n and_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o church_n to_o sing_v praise_n unto_o he_o heb._n two_o 12_o and_o second_o to_o be_v a_o mean_n to_o beget_v stir_v up_o and_o preserve_v this_o sense_n and_o belief_n in_o one_o another_o heb._n x._o 25_o to_o both_o these_o end_n bodily_a and_o external_n worship_n do_v very_o much_o sense_n and_o belief_n of_o god_n in_o the_o public_a assembly_n either_o by_o word_n or_o action_n and_o if_o possible_a by_o such_o as_o be_v peculiar_o appoint_v by_o god_n to_o this_o purpose_n but_o in_o your_o meeting_n there_o be_v no_o obligation_n on_o any_o one_o to_o signify_v his_o concurrence_n with_o the_o congregation_n in_o any_o ordinary_a act_n of_o worship_n either_o by_o word_n or_o gesture_n and_o therefore_o this_o end_n of_o public_a assembly_n be_v utter_o defeat_v by_o you_o your_o directory_n do_v not_o require_v or_o allow_v the_o people_n so_o much_o as_o to_o signify_v their_o assent_n by_o add_v a_o amen_n to_o the_o prayer_n or_o thanksgiving_n there_o offer_v but_o on_o the_o contrary_a you_o ridicule_n those_o that_o practise_v it_o pursuant_n to_o the_o direction_n and_o example_n in_o scripture_n and_o as_o to_o gesture_n such_o as_o kneel_v standing_z or_o bow_v the_o body_n etc._n etc._n you_o condemn_v they_o all_o as_o relic_n of_o idolatry_n or_o superstition_n there_o remain_v therefore_o in_o your_o assembly_n nothing_o whereby_o the_o people_n may_v testify_v their_o belief_n or_o assent_v to_o what_o they_o hear_v which_o be_v one_o design_n of_o the_o meeting_n thus_o by_o turn_v all_o bodily_a worship_n out_o of_o your_o assembly_n you_o have_v make_v void_a this_o great_a end_n of_o they_o and_o leave_v no_o visible_a distinction_n whereby_o any_o one_o may_v signify_v whether_o he_o assent_v to_o the_o worship_n that_o be_v offer_v or_o dissent_v from_o it_o the_o whole_a assembly_n be_v to_o one_o another_o mere_a spectator_n and_o hearer_n not_o joint-worshiper_n as_o to_o the_o other_o end_n of_o public_a worship_n which_o be_v to_o keep_v alive_a and_o stir_v up_o our_o affection_n you_o can_v but_o own_o that_o the_o omission_n of_o this_o outward_a worship_n be_v a_o great_a hindrance_n to_o it_o for_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o great_a check_n to_o devotion_n to_o see_v a_o man_n come_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n in_o a_o christian_a assembly_n with_o less_o reverence_n or_o show_v of_o respect_n then_o into_o the_o presence_n of_o a_o ordinary_a superior_a and_o behave_v himself_o less_o civil_o there_o than_o he_o will_v do_v in_o a_o court_n of_o justice_n and_o let_v people_n pretend_v what_o they_o will_v that_o can_v never_o be_v suitable_a worship_n to_o god_n which_o will_v be_v rudeness_n to_o a_o judge_n and_o therefore_o the_o quaker_n act_v much_o more_o reasonable_o who_o refuse_v to_o take_v off_o their_o hat_n or_o pay_v bodily_a worship_n to_o man_n than_o other_o dissenter_n who_o pay_v it_o to_o man_n and_o refuse_v
