VII 1 Moses is encouraged to go to Pharaoh 7 His aâ—e 8 His rod is turned into a serpent 11 The sorcerers do the like 13 Pharaohs heart is hardned 14 Gods massage to Pharaoh 19 the river is turned into bloud ANd the LORD said unto Moses See I have made thee a god to Pharaoh and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet 2 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh that he send the children of Israel out of his land 3 And I will harden Pharaohs heart and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt 4 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you that I may lay my hand upon Egypt and bring forth mine armies and my people the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by great judgements 5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD when I stretch forth mine hand upâ—â— Egypt and bring out the children of Israel from among them 6 And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them so did they 7 And Moses was fourscore years old and Aaron fourscore and three years old when they spake unto Pharaoh 8 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron saying 9 When Pharaoh shall speak unto you saying Shew a miracle for you then thou shalt say unto Aaron Take thy rod and caâ—t it before Pharaoh and it shall become a serpent 10 ¶ And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh and they did so as the LORD had commanded and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants and it became a serpent 11 Then Pharaoh also called the wifemen and the sorcerers now the magicians of Egypt they also did in like manner with their inchantments 12 For they cast down every man his rod and they became serpents but Aarons rod twallowed up their rods 13 And he hardned Pharaohs heart that he hearkned not unto them as the LORD had said 14 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Pharaohs heart is hardned he refuseth to let the people go 15 Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning 〈◊〉 he goeth out unto the water and thou shalt stand by the rivers brink against he come and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take into thine hand 16 And thou shalt say unto him The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee saying Let my people go that they may serve me in the wilderness and behold hitherto thou wouldest not hear 17 Thus saith the LORD In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD behold I will smite with the â—od that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river and they shall be turned to bloud 18 And the fish that is in the river shall die and the river shall stink and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river 19 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses Say unto Aaron Take thy rod and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt upon their streams upon their rivers and upon their ponds and upon all their †Heb gathering of their waters pools of water that they may become bloud and that there may be bloud throughout all the land of Egypt both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone 20 And Moses and Aaron did so as the LORD commanded and he * Ch. 17.5 lift up the rod and smote the waters that were in the river in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants and all the * Ps 78.44 waters that were in the river were turned into bloud 21 And the fish that was in the river died and the river stunk and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river and there was bloud throughout all the land of Egypt 22 * Wisd 17.7 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their inchantments and Pharaohs heart was hardned
a very grievous murrain 4 And the LORD shall sever between the cattel of Israel and the cattel of Egypt and there shall nothing die of all that is the childrens of Israel 5 And the LORD appointed a set time saying To morrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land 6 And the LORD did that thing on the morrow and all the cattel of Egypt died but of the cattel of the children of Israel died not one 7 And Pharaoh sent and behold there was not one of the cattel of the Israelites dead And the heart of Pharaoh was hardned and he did not let the people go 8 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses and unto Aaron Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace and let Moses sprinkle it towards the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh 9 And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt and shall he a boyl breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast throughout all the land of Egypt 10 And they took ashes of the furnace and stood before Pharaoh and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven and it became a boyl breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast 11 And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boyl for the boyl was upon the magicians and upon all the Egyptians 12 And the LORD hardned the heart of Pharaoh and he hearkned not unto them * Chap. 4.21 as the LORD had spoken unto Moses 13 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh and lay unto him Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews Let my people go that they may serve me 14 For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart and upon thy servants and upon thy people that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth 15 For now I will stretch out my hand that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence and thou shalt be cut off from the earth 16 And in very deed for * Rom. 9. â—7 this cause have I †Heb. made thee stand raised thee up for to shew in thee my power and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth 17 As yet exalted thou thyself against my people that thou wilt not let them go 18 Behold to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now 19 Send therefore now and gather thy cattel and all that thou hast in the field for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field and shall not be brought home the hail shall come down upon them and they shall die 20 He that feared the word of the LORD amongst the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattel flee into the houses 21 And he that †Heb. set not his â—eart unto regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattel in the field 22 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt upon man and upon beast upon every herb of the field throughout the land of Egypt 23 And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven and the LORD sent thunder and hail and the fire ran along upon the ground and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt 24 So there was hail and fire mingled with the hail very grievous such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation 25 And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field both man and beast and the hail smote every herb of the field and brake every tree of the field 26 Onely in the land of Goshen where the children of Israel were was there no hail 27 ¶ And Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron and said unto them I have sinned this time the LORD is righteous and I and my people are wicked 28 Intreat the LORD for it is enough that there be no more †Heb. voices of God mighty thundrings and hail and I will let you go and ye shall stay no longer 29 And Moses said unto him Assoon as I am gone out of the city I will spread abroad my hands unto the LORD and the thunder shall cease neither shall there be any more hail that thou mayest know how that the * Psal 24.1 earth is the LORDS 30 But as for thee and thy servants I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God 31 And the flax and the barley was smitten for the barley was in the ear and the â—â—ax was bolled 32 But the wheat and the rie were not smitten for they were †Heb. bidden or dark not grown up 33 And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh and spread abroad his hands unto the LORD and the thunders and hail ceased and the rain was not poured upon the earth 34 And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased he sinned yet more and hardned his heart he and his servants 35 And the heart of Pharaoh was hardned neither would he let the children of Israel go as the LORD had spoken †Heb. by the hand of Moses by Moses CHAP. X. 1 God threatneth to send locusts 7 Pharaoh moved by his servants inclineth to let the Israelites go 12 The plague of the locusts 16 Pharaoh sueth to Moses 21 The plague of darkness 24 Pharaoh sueth unto Moses 27 but yet is hardned ANd the LORD said unto Moses Go in unto Pharaoh * Chap 4.21 for I have hardned his heart and the heart of his servants that I might shew these my signs before him 2 And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son and of thy sons son what things I have wrought in Egypt and my signs which I have done amongst them that ye may know how that I am the LORD 3 And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh and said unto him Thus saith the LORD God oâ— the Hebrews How long wilt thou refuse to humble thy self before me Let my people go that they may serve me 4 Else if thou refuse to let my people go behold to morrow will I bring the * Wisd 16.9 locusts into thy coast 5 And they shall cover the †Heb. eye face of the earth that one cannot be able to see the earth and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped which remaineth unto you from the hail and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field 6 And they shall fill thy houses and the houses of all thy servants the houses of all the Egyptians which neither thy fathers nor thy fathers fathers have seen since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day And he
turned himself and went out from Pharaoh 7 And Pharaohs servants said unto him How long shall this man be a snare unto us Let the men go that they may serve the LORD their God Knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed 8 And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh and he said unto them Go serve the LORD your God but †Heb. who and who c. who are they that shall go 9 And Moses said We will go with our young and with our old with our sons and with our daughters with our flocks and with our herds will we go for we must hold a feast unto the LORD 10 And he said unto them Let the LORD be so with you as I will let you go and your little ones look to it for evil is before you 11 Not so go now ye that are men and serve the LORD for that you did desire And they were driven out from Pharaohs presence 12 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts that they may come up upon the land of Egypt and eat every herb of the land even all that the hail hath left 13 And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt and the LORD brought an east-wind upon the land all that day and all that night and when it was morning the east-wind brought the locusts 14 And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt and rested in all the coasts of Egypt very grievous were they before them there were no such locusts as they neither after them shall be such 15 For they covered the face of the whole earth so that the land was darkned and they did eat every herb of the land and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left and there remained not any green thing in the trees or in the herbs of the field through all the land of Egypt 16 ¶ Then Pharaoh †Heb. hastned to call called for Moses and Aaron in haste and he he said I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you 17 Now therefore forgive I pray thee my sin onely this once and intreat the LORD your God that he may take away from me this death onely 18 And he went out from Pharaoh and intreated the LORD 19 And the LORD turned a mighty strong west-wind which took away the locusts and †Heb. fastned cast them into the Red sea there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt 20 But the LORD hardned Pharaohs heart so that he would not let the children of Israel go 21 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Stretch out thine hand toward heaven that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt †Heb. that one may feel darkness even darkness which may be felt 22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days 23 They saw not one another neither rose any from his place for three days * Wisd 18.1 but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings 24 ¶ And Pharaoh called unto Moses and said Go ye serve the LORD onely let your flocks and your herds be stayed let your little ones also go with you 25 And Moses said Thou must give †Heb. into our hands us also sacrifices and burnt-offerings that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God 26 Our cattel also shall go with us there shall not an hoof be left behinde for thereof must we take to serve the LORD our God and we know not with what we must serve the LORD until we come thither 27 ¶ But the LORD hardned Pharaohs heart and he would not let them go 28 And Pharaoh said unto him Get thee from me take heed to thy self see my face no more for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die 29 And Moses said Thou hast spoken well I will see thy face again no more CHAP. XI 1 Gods message to the Israelites to borrow jewels of their neighbours 4 Moses threatneth Pharaoh with the death of the first-born ANd the LORD said unto Moses Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaph and upon Egypt afterwards he will let you go hence when he shall let you go he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether 2 Speak now in the ears of the people and let every man borrow of his neighbour and every woman of her neighbour * Chap. â— 22 and 12 35. jewels of silver and jewels of gold 3 And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians Moreover the man * Eccluâ— 45.1 Moses was very great in the land of Egypt in the sight of Pharaohs servants and in the sight of the people 4 And Moses said Thus saith the LORD * Chap. 12.29 About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt 5 And all the first-born in the land of Egypt shall die from the first-born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne even unto the first-born of the maid servant that is behinde the mill and all the first-born of beasts 6 And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt such as there was none like it nor shall be like it any more 7 But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue against man or beast that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel 8 And all these thy servants shall come down unto me and bow down themselves unto me saying Get thee out and all the people †Heb. that is at thy feet that follow thee and after that I will go out and he went out from Pharaoh in †Heb. heat of anger a great anger 9 And the LORD said unto Moses Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt 10 And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh and the LORD hardned Pharaohs heart so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land CHAP. XII 1 The beginning of the year is changed 3 The pass-over is instituted 11 The rice of the pass-over 15Vnleavened bread 29 The first-born are slain 31 The Israelites are driven out of the land 37 They come to Succoth 43 The ordinance of the pass-over ANd the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying 2 This moneth shall be unto you the beginning of moneths it shall be the first moneth of the year to you 3 ¶ Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel saying In the tenth day of this moneth they shall take to them every man a ‖ Or kid lamb according to the house of their fathers a lamb for an house 4 And if the hoâ—â—hold be too little for the lamb let him his neighbour next unto his
neither did he hearken unto them as the LORD had said 23 And Pharaoh turned and went into his house neither did he set his heart to this also 24 And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink for they could not drink of the water of the river 25 And seven dayes were fulfilled after that the LORD had smitten the river CHAP. VIII 1 Frogs are sent 8 Pharaoh sueth to Moses 12 and Moses by prayer removeth them away 16 The dust is turned into lice which the magicians could not do 20 The swarms of flies 25 Pharaoh inclineth to let the people go 32 but yet is hardened ANd the LORD spake unto Moses Go unto Pharaoh and say unto him Thus saith the LORD Let my people go that they may serve me 2 And if thou refuse to let them go behold I will smite all thy borders with frogs 3 And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly which shall go up and come into thine house and into thy bed-chamber and upon thy bed and into the house of thy servants and upon thy people and into thine ovens and into thy ‖ Or dough kneading-troughâ— 4 And the frogs shall come up both on thee and upon thy people and upon all thy servants 5 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses Say unto Aaron Stretch forth thine haâ—d with thy rod over the streams over the rivers and over the ponds and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt 6 And Aaâ—on stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt 7 * Wiâ—â— 17.7 And the Magicians did so with their inchantments and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt 8 ¶ Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and said Intreat the LORD that he may take away the frogs from me and from my people and I will let the people go that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD 9 And Moses said unto Pharaoh ‖ Or have this bonour over me c. Glory over me ‖ Or arainst when when shall I intreat for thee and for thy servants and for thy people †Heb. to cut off to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses that they may remain in the river onely 10 And he said ‖ Or against to morrow To morrow And he said Be it according to thy word that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God 11 And the frogs shall depart from thee and from thy houses and from thy servants and from thy people they shall remain in the river onely 12 And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh and Moses cried unto the LORD because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh 13 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses and the frogs died out of the houses out of the villages and out of the fields 14 And they gathered them together upon heaps and the land stank 15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite he hardned his heart and hearkned not unto them as the LORD had said 16 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Say unto Aaron Stretch out thy rod and smite the dust of the land that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt 17 And they did so for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod and smote the dust of the earth and it became lice in man and in beaâ—t all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt 18 And the magicians did so with their inchantmentâ— to bring forth lice but they could not so there were lice upon man and upon beast 19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh This is the finger of God and Pharaohâ— heart was hardned and he hearkned not unto them as the LORD had said 20 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh â—o he cometh forth to the water and say unto him Thus saith the LORD Let my people go that they may serve me 21 Else if thou wilt not let my people go behold I will send ‖ Or a mixture of noysome câ—asts c. swarms of flies upon thee and upon thy servants and upon thy people and into thy houses and the houses of the Egyptians shall be â—ull of swarms of flies and also the ground whereon they are 22 And I will sever in that day the laâ—d of Goshen in which my people dwell that no swarms of flies shall be there to the end thou mayest know that I am the LORD in the midâ—t of the earth 23 And I will put †Heb. a redemption a division between my people and thy people ‖ Or by to morrow to morrow shall this signe be 24 And the LORD did soâ—and * Wisd 16. â— there came a grievous swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh and into his servants houses and into all the land of Egypt the land was ‖ Or destroyed corrupted by reason of the swarm of flies 25 ¶ And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron and said Go ye sacriâ—ice to your God in the land 26 And Moses said It is not meet so to do for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God Lo shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes and will they not stone us 27 We will go three dayes journey into the wilderness and sacrifice to the LORD our God as * Ch. 3. â—8 he shall command us 28 And Pharaoh said I will let you go that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness onely you shall not go very far away intreat for me 29 And Moses said Behold I go out from thee and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh from hiâ— servants and from his people to morrow but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD 30 And Moses went out from Pharaoh and intreated the LORD 31 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh from his servants and from his people there remained not one 32 And Pharaoh hardned his heart at this time also neither would he let the people go CHAP. XV. 1 Moses song 22 The people want water 23 The waters at Marah are bitter 25 A tree sweetneth them 27 At Elim are twelve wells and seventy palm-trees THen sang * Wisd 10.20 Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD and spake saying I will sing unto the LORD for he hath triumphed gloriously the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea 2 The LORD is my strength and song and he is become my salvation he is my God and I will prepare him an habitation my fathers God and I will exalt him 3 The LORD is a man of war the LORD is his name 4 Pharaohs chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea 5 The depths have covered them they sank into the bottom as a stone 6 Thy right hand O LORD is become glorious in power thy right hand O LORD hath dashed in pieces the enemy 7 And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee thou sentest forth thy wrath which consumed them as stubble 8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together the flouds stoed upright as an heap and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea 9 The enemy said I will pursue I will overtake I will divide the spoil my lust shall be satisfied upon them I will draw my sword my hand shall ‖ Or repossess destroy them 10 Thou didst blow with thy wind the sea covered them they sank as lead in the mighty waters 11 Who is like unto thee O LORD amongst the ‖ Or mighty ones gods who is like thee glorious in holiness

linen 9 And thou shalt take two onyx-stones and grave on them the names of the children of Israel 10 Six of their names on one stone and the other six names of the rest on the other stone according to above the curious girdle of the ephod 28 And they shall binde the breast-plate by the rings thereof unto the rings of the ephod with a lace of blue that it may be above the curious girdle of the ephod and that the breast-plate be not loosed from the ephod 29 And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breast-plate of judgement upon his heart when he goeth in unto the holy place for a memorial before the LORD continually 30 ¶ And thou shalt put in the breast-plate of judgement the Urim and the Thummim and they shall be upon Aarons heart when he goeth in before the LORD and Aaron shall bear the judgement of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually 31 ¶ And thou shalt make the robe of the ephod all of blue 32 And there shall be an hole in the top of it in the midst thereof it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it as it were the hole of an habergâ—on that it be not rent 33 ¶ And beneath upon the ‖ Or skirts hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue and of purple and of scarlet round about the hem thereof and bells of gold between them round about 34 A golden bell and a pomegranate a golden bell and a XXXVI 1 The offerings are delivered to the workmen 5 The liberality of the people is restrained 8 The curtains of cherubims 14 The curtains of goats hair 19 The covering of skins 20 The boards with their sockets 31 The bars 35 The vail 37 The hanging for the door THen wrought Bezaleel and Aholiab and every wise-hearted man in whom the LORD put wisdom and understanding to know how to work all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary according to all that the LORD had commanded 2 And Moses called Bezaleel and Aholiab and every wise-hearted man in whose heart the LORD had put wisdom even every one whose heart stirred him up to come unto the work to do it 3 And they received of Moses all the offering which the children of Israel had brought for the work of the service of the sanctuary to make it withal And they brought yet unto him free-offerings every morning 4 And all the wise men that wrought all the work of the sanctuary came every man from his work which they made 5 ¶ And they spake unto Moses saying The people bring much more then enough for the service of the work which the LORD commanded to make 6 And Moses gave commandment and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp saying Let neither man nor woman make any more work for the offering of the sanctuary so the people were restrained from bringing 7 For the stuff they had was sufficient for all the work to make it and too much 8 ¶ * Chap. 26.3 4. brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us to slay us and our people 11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines and said Send away the ark of the God of Israel and let it go again to his own place that it slay us not and our people for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city the hand of God was very heavy there 12 And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods and the cry of the city went up to heaven CHAP. VI. 1 After seven moneths the Philistines take counsel how to send back the ark 10 They bring it on a new cart withâ—n offering unto Beth-shemesh 19 The people are smitten for looking into the ark 21 They send to them of Kâ—rjath-jearim to fetch it ANd the ark of the LORD was in the countrey of the Philistines seven moneths 2 And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners saying What shall we do to the ark of the LORD tell us wherewith we shall sent it to his place 3 And they said If ye send away the ark of the God of Israel send it not empty but in any wife return him a trespass-offering then ye shall be healed and it shall be known to you why his hand is not removed from you 4 Then said they What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him They answered Five golden emerods and five golden mice according to the number of the lords of the Philistines for one plague was on †Heb. them you all and on your lords 5 Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods and images of your mice that mar the land and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you and from off your gods and from off your land 6 Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardned their hearts when he had wrought ‖ Or â—â—â—roach-sâ—â—lly wonderfully among them * Ex. 12.31 did they not let †Heb. them the people go and they departed 7 Now therefore make a new cart and take two milch-kine on which there hath come no yoke and tie the kine to the cart and bring their calves home from them 8 And take the ark of the LORD and lay it upon the cart and put the jewels of gold which ye return him for a trespass-offering in a coffer by the side thereof and send it away that it may go 9 And see if it goeth up by the way of his own coast to Beth-shemesh then ‖ Or it he hath done us this great evil but if not then we shall know that it is not his hand that smote us it was a chance that hapned to us 10 ¶ And the men did so and took two milch-kine and tied them to the cart and shut up their calves at home 11 And they laid the ark of the LORD upon the cart and the coffer with the mice of gold and the images of their emerods 12 And the kine took the straight way to the way of Beth-shemesh and went along the high-way lowing as they went and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left and the lords of the Philistines went after them unto the boder of Beth-shemesh 13 And they of beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat-harvest in the valley and they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark and rejoyced to see it 14 And the cart came into the field of Joshua a Beth-shemite and stood there where there was a great stone and they clave the wood of the cart and offered the kine a burnt-offering unto the LORD 15 And the Levites took down the ark of the LORD and the coffer that was with it wherein the jewels of gold were and put them on the great stone and the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt-offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day unto the LORD 16 And when the five lords of the Philistines had seen it they returned to Ekron the same day 17 And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines returned for a trespass-offering unto the LORD for Ashdod one for Gaza one for Askelon one for Gath one for Ekron one 18 And the golden mice according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords both of fenced cities and of countrey-villages even unto the ‖ Or great stone great stone of Abel whereon they set down the ark of the LORD which stone remaineth unto this day in the field of Joshua the Beth shemite 19 ¶ And he smote the men of Beth-shemesh because they had looked into the ark of the LORD even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men and the people lamented because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter 20 And the men of Beth-shemesh said Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God and to whom shall he go up from us 21 ¶ And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjath-jearim saving The Philistines have brought again the ark of the LORD come ye down and fetch it up to you CHAP. VII 1 They of Kirjath jearim bring the ark into the house of Abinadab and sanctifie Eleazar his son to keep it 2 After twenty years 3 the Israelites by Samuels means solemnly repent at Mâ—â—peh 9 While Samuel prayeth and sacrificeth the Lord discomfiteth the Philistines by thunder at Eben-ezer 13 The Philistines are subdued 15 Samuel peaceably and religiously judgeth Israel ANd the men of Kirjath-jearim came and fetcht up the ark of the LORD and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD 2 And it came to pass while the ark abode in Kirjath-jearim that the time was long for it was twenty years and all the house of Israel lamented alter the LORD 3 ¶ And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel saying If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts then * Josh 24.14 23. put away the strange gods and * Judg. 2.13 Ashtaroth from among you and prepare your hearts unto the LORD and * Deu. 6.13 Mat. 4.10 Luk. 4.8 serve him onely and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines 4 Then the children of Israel did put away * Judg. 2.11 Baalim and Ashtaroth and served the LORD onely 5 And Samuel said Gather all Israel to Mizpeh and I will pray for you unto the LORD 6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh and drew water and poured it out before the LORD and fasted on that day and said there We have sinned against the LORD And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh 7 And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel and when the children of Israel heard
and his judgements which he commanded our fathers 59 And let these my words wherewith I have made supplication before the LORD be nigh unto the LORD our God day and night that he maintain the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel †Heb. the thing of a day in his day at all times as the matter shall require 60 That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD is God and that there is none else 61 Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God to walk in his statutes and to keep his commandments as at this day 62 ¶ And * 2 Chr. 7.4 the king and all Israel with him offered sacrifice before the LORD 63 And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace-offerings which he offered unto the LORD two and twenty thousand oxen and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep so the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD 64 * 2 Chr. 7.7 The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD for there he offered burnt-offerings and meat-offerings and the fat of the peace-offerings because the brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt-offerings and meat-offerings and the fat of the peace-offerings 65 And at that time Solomon held a feast and all Israel with him a great congregation from the entring in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt before the LORD our God seven days and seven days even fourteen days 66 On the eighth day he sent the people away and they ‖ Or thanked blessed the king and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done for David his servant and for Israel his people CHAP. IX 1 Gods covenant in a vision with Solomon 10 The mutual presents of Solomon and Hiram 15 In Solomons works the Gentiles were his bond-men the Israelites honourable servants 24 Pharaohs daughter removeth to her house 25 Solomons yearly solemn sacrifices 26 His navy fetcheth gold from Ophir ANd * 2 Chr. ◠11 it came to pass when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the LORD and the kings house and all Solomons desire which he was pleased to do 2 That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time * Chap. 3.5 as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon 3 And the LORD said unto him I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication that thou hast made before me I have hallowed this house which thou hast built * Chap. 8.29 to put my name there for ever and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually 4 And if thou wilt walk before me as David thy father walked in integrity of heart and in uprightness to do according to all that I have commanded thee and wilt keep my statutes and my judgements 5 Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever * 2 Sam. 7.12 1 Chron. 22.10 as I promised to David thy father saying There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel 6 But if you shall at all turn from following me you or your children and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you but go and serve other gods and worship them 7 Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them and this house which I have hallowed * Jer. 7.14 for my name will I cast out of my sight and Israel shall be a proverb and a by word among all people 8 And at this house which is high every one that passeth by it shall be astonished and shall hiss and they shall say * Deut. 29.24 Jer. 22.8 Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land and to this house 9 And they shall answer Because they forsook the LORD their God who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt and have taken hold upon other gods and have worshipped them and served them therefore hath the LORD brought upon them all this evil 10 ¶ And * 2 Chr. 8.1 it came to pass at the end of twenty years when Solomon had built the two houses the house of the LORD and the kings house 11 Now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir-trees and with gold according to all his desire that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee 12 And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him and they †Heb. were not right in his eyes pleased him not 13 And he said What cities are these which thou hast given me my brother And he called them the land of ‖ That is Displeasing or Dirty Cabul unto this day 14 And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold 15 ¶ And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised for to build the house of the LORD and his own house and Millo and the wall of Jerusalem and Hazor and Megiddo and Gezer 16 For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and taken Gezer and burnt it with fire and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city and given it for a present unto his daughter Solomons wife 17 And Solomon built Gezer and Beth-horon the nether 18 And Baalath and Tadmor in the wilderness in the land 19 And all the cities of store that Solomon had and cities for his chariots and cities for his hors-men and †Heb. the desire of Solomon which he desired that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem and in Lebanon and in all the land of his dominion 20 And all the people that were left of the Amorites Hittites Perizzites Hivites and Jebusites which were not of the children of Israel 21 Their children that were left after them in the land whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy upon those did Solomon levy a tribute of bond-service unto this day 22 But of the children of Israel did Solomon * Levit. 25.39 make no bond-men but they were men of war and his servants and his princes and his captains and rulers of his chariots and his hors-men 23 These were the chief of the officers that were over Solomons work five hundred and fifty which bare rule over the people that wrought in the work 24 ¶ But * 2 Chr. 8.11 Pharaohs daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which Solomon had built for her then did he build Millo 25 ¶ And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt-offerings and peace-offerings upon the altar which he built unto the LORD and he burnt incense †Heb. upon it upon the altar that was before the LORD so he finished the house 26 ¶ And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Ezion-geber which is

Rom. 2.11 Gal. 2.5 Ephes 6.9 Coloss 3.25 1 Pet. 1.17 no respect of persons 13 He will not accept any person against a poor man but will hear the prayer of the oppressed 14 He will not despise the supplication of the fatherless nor the widow when she poureth out her complaint 15 Do not the tears run down the widows cheeks and is not her cry against him that causeth them to fall 16 He that serveth the Lord shall be accepted with favour and his prayer shall reach unto the clouds 17 The prayer of the humble pierceth the clouds and till it come nigh he will not be comforted and will not depart till the most High shall behold to judge righteously and execute judgement 18 For the Lord will not be slack neither will the Mighty be patient towards them till he have smitten in sunder the loyns of the unmerciful and repayed vengeance to the heathen till he have taken away the multitude of the ‖ Or crued oppressours proud and broken the sceptre of the unrighteous 19 Till he have rendred to every man according to his deeds and to the works of men according to their devices till he have judged the cause of his people and made them to rejoyce in his mercy 20 Mercy is †Gr. fâ—r seasonable in the time of affliction as clouds of rain in the time of drought CHAP. XXXVI 1 A prayer for the church against the enemies thereof 18 A good heart and a froward 21 Of a good wife HAve mercy upon us O Lord God of all and behold us 2 And send thy fear upon all the nations that seek not after thee 3 * Jer. 10.25 Lift up thy hand ‖ Or upon against the strange nations and let them see thy power 4 As thou wast sanctified in us before them so be thou magnified among them before us 5 And let them know thee as we have known thee that there is no God but onely thou O God 6 Shew new signs and make other strange wonders glorify thy hand and thy right arm that they may set forth thy wondrous works 7 Raise up indignation and pour out wrath take away the adversary and destroy the enemy 8 Make the time short remember the †Gr. oath covenant and let them declare thy wonderful works 9 Let him that escapeth be consumed by the rage of the fire and let them perish that oppress the people 10 Smite in sunder the heads of the rulers of the heathen that say There is none other but we 11 Gather all the tribes of Jacob together and inherit thou them as from the beginning 12 O Lord have mercy upon the people that is called by thy name and upon Israel * Exod. 4.22 whom thou hast named thy first-born 13 O be merciful unto Jerusalem thy holy city the place of thy rest 14 Fill Sion ‖ Or. that it may magnify thine oracles with thine unspeakable oracles and thy people with thy glory 15 Give testimony unto those that thou hast possessed from the beginning and raise up ‖ Or. prophesies prophets that have been in thy name 16 Reward them that wait for thee and let thy prophets be found faithful 17 O Lord hear the prayer of thy ‖ Or supplients servants according to the * Num. 6.23 blessing of Aaron over thy people that all they which dwell upon the earth may know that thou art the Lord the eternal God 18 The belly devoureth all meats yet is one meat better then another 19 * Job 34.3 As the palate tasteth divers kinds of venison so doth an heart of understanding false speeches 20 A froward heart causeth heaviness but a man of experience will recompense him 21 A woman will receive every man yet is one daughter better then another 22 The beauty of a woman cheereth the countenance and a man loveth nothing better 23 If there be kindness meekness and comfort in her tongue then is not her husband like ‖ Or common other men 24 He that getteth a wife beginneth ‖ Or to thrive a possession a help like unto himself and a pillar of rest 25 Where no hedge is there the possession is spoiled and he that hath no wife will wander up and down mourning 26 Who will trust a thief well-appointed that skippeth from city to city so who will beleeve a man that hath no house and lodgeth wheresoever the night taketh him CHAP. XXXVII 1 How to know friends and counsellours 12 The discretion and wisdom of a godly man blesseth him 27 Learn to refrain thine appetite EVery friend saith I am his friend also but there is a friend which is onely a friend in name 2 Is it not a grief unto death when a companion and friend is turned to an enemy 3 O wicked imagination whence camest thou in to cover the earth with deceit 4 There is a companion which rejoyceth in the prosperity of a friend but in the time of trouble will be against him 5 There is a companion which helpeth his friend for the belly and taketh up the buckler ‖ Or in presence of the enemy against the enemy 6 Forget not thy friend in thy minde and be not unmindful of him in thy riches 7 Every councellour extolleth counsel but there is some that councelleth for himself 8 Beware of a counsellour and know before ‖ Or what use there is of him what need he hath for he will counsel for himself lest he cast the lot upon thee 9 And say unto thee Thy way is good and afterward he stand on the other side to see what shall be fall thee 10 Consult not with one that suspecteth thee and hide thy counsel from such as envy thee 11 Neither consult with a woman touching her of whom she is jealous neither with a coward in matters of war nor with a merchant concerning exchange nor with a buyer of selling nor with an envious man of thankfulness nor with an unmerciful man touching kindness nor with the slothful for any work nor with an hireling for a year of finishing work nor with an idle servant of much business hearken not unto these in any mattter of counsel 12 But be continually with a godly man whom thou knowest to keep the commandments of the Lord whose minde is according to thy minde and will sorrow with thee if thou shalt miscarry 13 And let the counsel of thine own heart stand for there is no man more faithful unto thee then it 14 For a mans minde is sometime wont to tell him more then seven watchmen that sit above in an high tower 15 And above all this pray to the most High that he will direct thy way in truth 16 Let reason go before every enterprise and counsel before every action 17 The countenance is a signe of changing of the heart 18

Gal. 3.8 oath that he would bless the nations in his seed and that he would multiply him as the dust of the earth and exalt his seed as the stars and cause them to inherit from sea to sea and from the river unto the utmost part of the land 22 With Isaac did he establish likewise for Abraham his fathers sake the blessing of all men and the covenant 23 And made it rest upon the head of * Gen. 27.28 28.14 Jacob. He acknowledged him in his blessing and gave him an heritage and divided his portions among the twelve tribes did he part them CHAP. XLV 1 The praise of Moses 6 of Aaron 23 and of Phinees ANd he brought out of him a merciful man which found favour in the sight of all flesh even * Exod. 11.3 Moses beloved of God and men whose memorial is blessed 2 He made him like to the glorious saints and magnified him so that his enemies stood in fear of him 3 By his words he caused the wonders to cease and he made him * Exod. 7.8 9 10. chapters glorious in the sight of kings and gave him a commandment for his people and shewed him part of his glory 4 * Num. 12.3 He sanctified him in his faithfulness and meekness and chose him out of all men 5 He made him to hear his voice and brought him into the dark cloud and * Exod. 19.7 gave him commandments before his face even the law of life and knowledge that he might teach Jacob his covenants and Israel his judgements 6 He * Exod. 4.14 exalted Aaron an holy man like unto him even his brother of the tribe of Levi. 7 An everlasting covenant he made with him and gave him the priesthood among the people †Gr. he blessed he beautified him with comely ornaments and clothed him with a robe of glory 8 He put upon him perfect glory and strengthned him with †Gr. vessels or instruments rich garments with breeches with a long robe and the ephod 9 And he compassed him with pomegranates and with many golden bells round about that as he went there might be a * Exod. 28.35 sound and a noise made that might be heard in the temple for a memorial to the children of his people 10 With an holy garment with gold and blue silk and purple the work of the embroiderer with a breast-plate of judgement and with Urim and Thummim 11 With twisted scarlet the work of the cunning workman with precious stones graven like seals and set in gold the work of the jeweller with a writing engraved for a memorial after the number of the tribes of Israel 12 He set a crown of gold upon the mitre wherein was engraved Holiness an ornament of honour a costly work the desires of the eyes goodly and beautiful 13 Before him there were none such neither did ever any stranger put them on but onely his children and his childrens children perpetually 14 Their sacrifices shall be wholly consumed every day twice continually 15 Moses consecrated him and anointed him with holy oyl this was appointed unto him by an everlasting covenant and to his seed so long as the heavens should remain that they should minister unto him and execute the office of the priest-hood and bless the people in his name 16 He chose him out of all men living to offer sacrifices to the Lord incense and a sweet savour for a memorial to make reconciliation for his people 17 * Deut. 17.10 21.5 He gave unto him his commandments and authority in the statutes of judgements that he should teach Jacob the testimonies and inform Israel in his laws 18 * Numb 16.1 Strangers conspired together against him and maligned him in the wilderness even the men that were of Dathans and Abirons side and the congregation of Core with fury and wrath 19 This the Lord saw and it displeased him and in his wrathful indignation were they consumed he did wonders upon them to consume them with the fiery flame 20 * Numb 17.8 But he made Aaron more honourable and gave him an heritage and divided unto him the first-fruits of the increase especially he prepared bread in abundance 21 For they did eat of the sacrifices of the Lord which he gave unto him and his seed 22 * Deut 12.12 18.1 2. Howbeit in the land of the people he had no inheritance neither had he any portion among the people for the Lord himself is his portion and inheritance 23 * Num. 25.11 12 13. 1 Mac. 2.54 The third in glory is Phinees the son of Eleazar because he had zeal in the fear of the Lord and stood up with good courage of heart when the people were turned back and made reconciliation for Israel 24 Therefore was there a covenant of peace made with him that he should be the chief of the sanctuary and of his people and that he and his posterity should have the dignity of the priesthood for ever 25 According to the covenant made with David son of Jesse of the tribe of Juda that the inheritance of the king should be to his posterity alone so the inheritance of Aaron should also be unto his seed 26 God give you wisdom in your heart to judge his people in righteousness that their good things be not abolished and that their glory may endure for ever CHAP. XLVI 1 The praise of Joshua 9 of Caleb 13 of Samuel JEsus * Numb 27.18 Deut. 34 9 Josh 1.2 12.7 the son of Nave was valiant in the wars and was the successour of Moses in prophesies who according to his name was made great for the saving of the elect of God and taking vengeance of the enemies that rose up against them that he might set Israel in their inheritance 2 How great glory gat he when he
therefore and I will send thee unto Pharaoh that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt 11 ¶ And Moses sad unto God Who am I that I should go unto Pharaoh and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt 12 And he said Certainly I will be with thee and this shall be a token unto thee that I have sent thee When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt ye shall serve God upon this mountain 13 And Moses said unto God Behold when I come unto the children of Israel and shall say unto them The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you and they shall say to me What is his name What shall I say unto them 14 And God said unto Moses I AM THAT I AM And he said Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel I AM hath sent uâ— unto you 15 And God said moreover unto Moses Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel The LORD God of your fathers the God of Abraham the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob hath sent me unto you this is my name for ever and this is my memorial unto all generations 16 Go and gather the elders of Israel together and say unto them The LORD God of your fathers the God of Abraham of Isaac and of Jacob appeared unto me saying I have surely visited you and seen that which is done to you in Egypt 17 And I have said I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzâ—tes and the Hivites and the Jebusites unto a land slowing with milk and honey 18 And they shall hearken to thy voice and thou shalt come thou and the elders of Israel unto the king of Egypt and you shall say unto him The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us and now let us go we beseech thee three days journey into the wilderness that we may sacritice to the LORD our God 19 ¶ And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go ‖ Or but 〈◊〉 strong hand no not by a mighty hand 20 And I will stretch out my hand and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midâ—â— thereof after that he will let you go 21 And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians and it shall come to pass that when ye go ye shall not go empty 22 * Ch. 11.2 12.35 But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour and of her that sojourneth in her house jewels of silver and jewels of gold and raiment and ye shall put them upon your sons and upon your daughters and ye shall spoil ‖ Or Egypt the Egyptians CHAP. IV. 1 Moses rod is turned into a serpent 6 His band is leprous 10 He is lotb to be sent 14 Aaron is appointed to assist him 18 Moses departeth from Jethro 21 Gods message to Pharaob 24 Zipporah circumciseth her son 27 Aaron is sent to next Moses 31 The people beleeveth them ANd Moses answered and said But behold they will not beleeve me nor hearken unto my voice for they will say The LORD hath not appeared unto thee 2 And the LORD said unto him What is that in thine hand And he said A rod. 3 And he said Cast it on the ground and he cast it on the ground and it became a serpent and Moses fled from before it 4 And the LORD said unto Moses Put forth thy hand and take it by the tail And he put forth his hand and caught it and it became a rod in his hand 5 That they may beleeve that the LORD God of their fathers the God of Abraham the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob hath appeared unto thee 6 ¶ And the LORD said furthermore unto him Put now thine hand into thy bosome and he put his hand into his bosome and when he took it out behold his hand was leprous as snow 7 And he said Put thine hand into thy bosome again and he put his hand into his bosome again and plucked it out of his bosome and behold it was turned again as his other flesh 8 And it shall come to pass if they will not beleeve thee neither hearken to the voice of the first signe that they will beleeve the voice of the latter signe 9 And it shall come to pass if they will not beleeve also these two signs neither hearken unto thy voice that thou shalt take of the water of the river and pour it upon the dry-land and the water which thou takest out of the river †Heb. shall be and shall be shall become bloud upon the dry-land 10 ¶ And Moses said unto the LORD O my Lord I am not †Heb. a man of words eloquent neither †Heb. since yestâ—rday nor since the third day her tofore nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant but I am slow of speech and of a slow tongue 11 And the LORD said unto him Who hath made mans mouth or who maketh the dumb or deas or the seeing or the blinde have not I the LORD 12 Now therefore go and I will be * Mat. 10 1â— Mat. 1.11 Luk. 12.11 with thy mouth and teach thee what thou shalt say 13 And he said O my Lord send I pray thee by the hand of him whâ—m thou ‖ Or shouldest wilt send 14 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses and he said Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother I know that he can speak well And also behold he cometh forth to meet thee and when he sâ—â—th 15 And thou shalt speak unto him and put words in his mouth and I will be with thy mouth and with his mouth and will teach you what ye shall do 16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people and he shall be even he shall be to thee in stead of a mouth and * Ch. 7.1 thou shalt be to him in stead of God 17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand wherewith thou shalt do signs 18 ¶ And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law and said unto him Let me go I pray thee and return unto my brethren which art in Egypt and see whâ—ther they be yet alive And Jethro said to Moses Go in peace 19 And the LORD said unto Moses in Midian Go return into Egypt for all the men are dead which fought thy life 20 And Moses took his wife and his sons and set them upon an aâ—s and he returned to the land of Egypt And Moses took the rod of God in his hand 21 And the LORD said unto Moses When thou goâ—st to return into Egypt see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh which I have put in thine hand but I will harden his heart that he shall not let the people go
22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh Thus saith the LORD Israel is my son even my first-born 23 And I say unto thee Let my son go that he may serve me and it thou refuse to let him go behold I will slay thy son even thy first born 24 ¶ And it came to pass by the way in the inn that the LORD met him and sought to kill him 25 Then Zipporah took a sharp ‖ Or knife stone and cut off the sore-skin of her son and †Heb. made it touth cast it at his feet and said Sarely a bloudy husband art thou to me 26 So he let him go then she said A bloudy husband thou art because of the circumcision 27 ¶ And the LORD said to Aaron Go into the wilderness to meet Moses And he went and met him in the mount of God and kisâ—â—â— him 28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had sent him and all the signs which he had commanded him 29 ¶ And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel 30 And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses and did the signs in the sight of the people 31 And the people beseeved and when they heard that the LORD had vinted the children of Israel and that he had looked upon their affliction then they bowed their heads and worshipped CHAP. V. 1 Pharaoh ebideth Moses and Aaron for their message 5 He increaseth the Israelites task 15 He checketh their complaints 19 They cry out upon Moses and Aaron 22 Moses complaineth to God ANd afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh Thus saith the LORD God of Israel Let my people go that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness 2 And Pharaoh said Who is the LORD that I should obey his voice to let Israel go I know not the LORD neither will I let Israel go 3 And they said * Ch. 3. â—8 The God of the Hebrews hath met with us let us go we pray thee three days journey into the desert and sacrifice unto the LORD our God lest he fall upon us with pestilence or with the sword 4 And the king of Egypt said unto them Wherefore do ye Moses and Aaron let the people from their works get you unto your burdens 5 And Pharaoh said Behold the people of the land now are many and you make them rest from their burdens 6 And Pharaoh commanded the same day the task-masters of the people and their officers saying 7 Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick as heretofore let them go and gather straw for themselves 8 And the tale of the bricks which they did make heretofore you shall lay upon them you shall not diminish ought thereof for they be idle therefore they cry saying Let us go and sacrifice to our God 9 †Heb. let the work â—e heavy upon the men Let there more work be laid upon the men that they may labour therein and let them not regard vain words 10 ¶ And the task-masters of the people went out and their officers and they spake to the people saying Thus saith Pharaoh I will not give you straw 11 Go ye get you straw where you can find it yet not ought of your work shall be diminished 12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw 13 And the task-masters hasted them saying Fulfil your works your †Heb. a matter of a day in biâ— day daily tasks as when there was straw 14 And the officers of the children of Israel which Pharaohs task-masters had set over them were beaten and demanded Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day as heretofore 15 ¶ Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh saying Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants 16 There is no straw given unto thy servant and they say to us Make brick and behold thy servants are beaten but the fault is in thine own people 17 But he said Ye are idle ye are idle therefore ye say Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD 18 Go therefore now and work for there shall no straw be given you yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks 19 And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case after it was said Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task 20 ¶ And they met Moses and Aaron who stood in the way as they came forth from Pharaoh 21 And they said unto them The LORD look upon you and judge because you have made our savour †Heb. to stink to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants to put a sword in their hands to slay us 22 And Moses returned unto the LORD and said Lord wherefore â—aâ—t thou so evil intreated this people why is it that thou hast sent me 23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name he hath done evil to this people †Heb. delivering thou so it delivered neither hast thou delivered thy people at all CHAP. VI. 1 God reneweth his promise by his name JEHOVAH 14 The geneadogy of Reuben 15 of Simeon 16 of Levi of whom came Moses and Aaron THen the LORD said unto Moses Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh for with a strong hand shall he let them go and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land 2 And God spake unto Moses and said unto him I am the LORD 3 And I appeared unto Abraham unto Isaac and unto Jacob by the name of God Almighty but by my name JEHOVAH was I not knowâ— to them 4 And I have also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan the land of their pilgrimage wherein they were strangers 5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel whom the Egyptians keep in bondage and I have remembred my covenant 6 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel I am the LORD and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians and I will rid you out or their bondage and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm and with great judgements 7 And I will take you to me for a people and I will be to you a God and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians 8 And I will bring you in unto the land concerning the which I did †Heb. list up my hand swear to give it to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob and I will give it you for an heritage I am the LORD 9 ¶ And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel but they hearkned not unto Moses for †Heb. shâ—rtness or
came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years even the self-same day it came to pass that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt 42 It is †Heb. a night of observations a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations 43 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron This is the ordinance of the pass-over there shall no stranger eat thereof 44 But every mans servant that is bought for money when thou hast circumcised him then shall he eat thereof 45 A foreiner and an hired servant shall not eat thereof 46 In one house shall it be eaten thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house * Num. 9.12 John 19.36 neither shall ye break a bone thereof 47 All the congregation of Israel shall †Heb. do it keep it 48 And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee and will keep the pass-over to the LORD let all his males be circumcised and then let him come near and keep it and he shall be as one that is born in the land for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof 49 One law shall be to him that is home-born and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you 50 Thus did all the children of Israel as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron so did they 51 â—nd it came to pass the self-same day that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies CHAP. XIII 1 The first-born are sanctified to God 3 The memorial of the pass-over is commanded 11 The firstlings of beasts are set apart 17 The Israelites go out of Egypt and carry Josephs bones with them 20 They come to Etham 21 God guideth them by a pillar of a cloud and a pillar of fire ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 * Chap. 22 29. and 34.19 Lev. 27.26 Num. 3.13 and 8.16 Luk. 2.23 Sanctifie unto me all the first-born whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel both of man of beast it is mine 3 ¶ And Moses said unto the people Remember this day in which ye came out from Egypt out of the house of †Heb. servants bondage for by strength of hand the LORD brought you out from this place there shall no leavened bread be eaten 4 This day came ye out in the moneth Abib 5 ¶ And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee a land flowing with milk and honey that thou shalt keep this service in this moneth 6 Seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread and in the seventh day shall be a feast to the LORD 7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days and there shall no leavened bread be seen with thee neither shall there be leaven seen with thee in all thy quarters 8 ¶ And thou shalt shew thy son in the day saying This is done because of that which the LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt 9 And it shall be for a signe unto thee upon thine hand and for a memorial between thine eyes that the LORDS law may be in thy mouth for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt 10 Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in his season from year to year 11 ¶ And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites as he sware unto thee and to thy fathers and shall give it thee 12 * Chap. 22.29 and 34.19 Ezek. 44.30 That thou shalt †Heb. cause to pass over set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast the males shall be the LORDS 12 And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a ‖ Or kid lamb and if thou wilt not redeem it then thou shalt break his neck and all the first-born of man amongst thy children shalt thou redeem 14 ¶ And it shall be when thy son asketh thee †Heb. to morrow in time to come saying What is this that thou shalt say unto him By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt from the house of bondage 15 And it came to pass when Pharaoh would hardly let us go that the LORD slew all the first-born in the land of Egypt both the first-born of man and the first-born of beasts therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix being males but all the first-born of my children I redeem 16 And it shall be for a token upon thine hand and for frontlets between thine eyes for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt 17 ¶ And it came to pass when Pharaoh had let the people go that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines although that was near for God said Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war and they return to Egypt 18 But God led the people about through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea and the children of Israel went up ‖ Or by five in a rank harnessed out of the land of Egypt 19 And Moses took the hones of Joseph with him for he had straitly sworn the children of Israel saying * Gen. 50.25 Josh 24.32 God will surely visit you and ye shall carry up my bones away hence with you 20 ¶ And * Numb 32.6 they took their journey from Saccoth and encamped in Etham in the edge of the wilderness 21 And * Numb 1â— 14 Deut. 1. â—2 Neh. â— 19 Psal â—8 14 1 Cor. 10 1. the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud to lead them the way and by nigth in a pillar of sire to give them light to go by day and night 22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day nor the pillar of sire by night from before the people ..
