his_o people_n it_o be_v that_o that_o you_o shall_v account_v a_o great_a good_a than_o the_o life_n of_o your_o child_n what_o ever_o they_o be_v this_o be_v the_o scope_n of_o moses_n speech_n to_o further_o proceed_v in_o and_o trouble_v of_o spirit_n a_o silence_n in_o the_o very_a heart_n and_o stay_v of_o it_o a_o stay_n of_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o heart_n i_o find_v the_o same_o word_n profession_n of_o his_o name_n labour_v you_o to_o hold_v forth_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o holiness_n above_o all_o thing_n in_o your_o holy_a life_n and_o conversation_n for_o god_n stand_v upon_o this_o to_o have_v his_o name_n to_o be_v sanctify_v i_o will_v be_v sanctify_v say_v god_n and_o i_o will_v be_v glorify_v so_o he_o do_v interpret_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o name_n by_o be_v sanctify_v as_o if_o god_n shall_v say_v that_o be_v the_o glory_n that_o i_o look_v for_o that_o my_o name_n may_v be_v extol_v as_o holy_a and_o therefore_o the_o very_a first_o petition_n that_o word_n of_o the_o prophecy_n of_o ezek._n 48._o 35._o the_o name_n of_o the_o city_n be_v jehovah_n shamma_n that_o be_v the_o lord_n be_v there_o the_o lord_n jehovah_n he_o be_v there_o he_o be_v they_o have_v not_o be_v strike_v with_o fire_n from_o heaven_n by_o god_n and_o they_o have_v not_o be_v of_o such_o public_a use_n these_o here_o be_v renown_a man_n and_o take_v away_o in_o their_o very_a sin_n too_o your_o child_n which_o have_v go_v upon_o their_o lawful_a employment_n and_o god_n have_v take_v away_o their_o life_n there_o be_v no_o such_o cause_n of_o murmur_v here_o but_o to_o satisfy_v his_o conscience_n or_o to_o get_v credit_n and_o esteem_v to_o be_v account_v eminent_a in_o such_o a_o way_n so_o much_o he_o do_v do_v but_o his_o duty_n be_v always_o limit_v almighty_a god_n be_v able_a to_o help_v i_o let_v i_o make_v he_o the_o object_n of_o my_o faith_n as_o he_o be_v so_o infinite_o almighty_a what_o a_o full_a object_n of_o faith_n be_v this_o god_n that_o have_v all_o power_n in_o he_o let_v i_o therefore_o come_v to_o he_o as_o a_o strong_a tower_n run_v to_o the_o name_n of_o god_n as_o a_o strong_a tower_n that_o can_v help_v in_o all_o straits_n whatsoever_o there_o will_v be_v much_o draw_v forth_o of_o our_o faith_n if_o we_o can_v present_v the_o lord_n before_o we_o as_o a_o infinite_a almighty_a god_n when_o we_o see_v outward_a help_n and_o mean_v near_o at_o hand_n than_o we_o can_v believe_v that_o we_o may_v have_v some_o succour_n from_o he_o but_o when_o all_o outward_a help_n and_o mean_n fail_v then_o we_o be_v discourage_v we_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n but_o we_o rather_o take_v this_o name_n of_o god_n in_o vain_a when_o as_o our_o heart_n be_v discourage_v with_o any_o difficulty_n now_o the_o lord_n expect_v that_o all_o his_o child_n that_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o shall_v worship_v he_o as_o the_o almighty_a god_n and_o so_o have_v their_o heart_n work_v towards_o he_o there_o will_v be_v mighty_a work_n of_o spirit_n towards_o god_n if_o we_o see_v he_o by_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n as_o well_o as_o reason_n 7._o look_v upon_o god_n as_o a_o omniscient_a god_n as_o a_o god_n infinite_o understand_v all_o thing_n now_o what_o do_v this_o call_n for_o first_o if_o god_n be_v a_o god_n of_o infinite_a understanding_n then_o let_v not_o i_o bring_v a_o blind_a sacrifice_n to_o god_n then_o let_v not_o i_o bring_v a_o ignorant_a heart_n to_o god_n this_o be_v the_o excellency_n of_o a_o understand_a creature_n to_o know_v the_o rule_n and_o end_n of_o its_o from_o the_o lord_n eye_n but_o the_o lord_n will_v see_v whether_o thou_o be_v willing_a of_o thyself_o that_o he_o shall_v understand_v all_o god_n do_v not_o require_v we_o to_o come_v and_o confess_v our_o sin_n that_o so_o he_o may_v know_v that_o which_o he_o know_v not_o before_o but_o for_o this_o end_n that_o there_o may_v be_v a_o testimony_n that_o thou_o be_v willing_a that_o he_o shall_v know_v all_o that_o be_v in_o thy_o heart_n therefore_o now_o when_o thou_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o ransack_v every_o corner_n of_o thy_o heart_n and_o confess_v all_o before_o the_o lord_n and_o give_v glory_n to_o his_o name_n as_o that_o god_n that_o be_v a_o all-seeing_a god_n that_o know_v all_o the_o wind_n and_o turn_n of_o thy_o heart_n now_o meditate_v of_o these_o thing_n that_o be_v present_v to_o thou_o and_o it_o will_v be_v a_o mighty_a mean_n to_o help_v thou_o to_o sanctify_v his_o name_n 8._o god_n be_v a_o god_n of_o infinite_a wisdom_n therefore_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_n god_n let_v we_o be_v ashamed_a of_o our_o folly_n when_o thou_o come_v
i_o be_o never_o able_a to_o do_v it_o but_o there_o be_v a_o mediator_n and_o therefore_o i_o will_v fly_v to_o he_o and_o by_o faith_n tender_v up_o to_o the_o father_n all_o the_o merit_n of_o the_o covenant_n that_o thou_o have_v enter_v into_o and_o to_o perform_v all_o the_o vow_n that_o thou_o make_v with_o god_n remember_v thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o a_o faithful_a god_n and_o as_o the_o lord_n delight_v to_o manifest_v his_o righteousness_n to_o poor_a creature_n that_o seek_v his_o face_n so_o this_o god_n do_v expect_v that_o thou_o shall_v be_v faithful_a in_o all_o his_o glory_n the_o infinitness_n of_o his_o glory_n the_o shine_n and_o lustre_n of_o all_o the_o attribute_n together_o be_v god_n glory_n i_o have_v then_o to_o deal_v with_o a_o glorious_a god_n and_o let_v i_o labour_n to_o perform_v such_o service_n as_o may_v have_v a_o spiritual_a glory_n upon_o they_o that_o some_o image_n of_o the_o divine_a lustre_n that_o there_o be_v in_o god_n may_v be_v upon_o my_o service_n and_o let_v i_o look_v for_o glorious_a thing_n see_v i_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o such_o a_o glorious_a god_n you_o will_v say_v here_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o do_v in_o serve_v of_o god_n how_o much_o be_v here_o that_o we_o must_v do_v i_o appeal_v to_o any_o gracious_a heart_n what_o can_v thou_o want_v of_o any_o of_o these_o or_o what_o will_v thou_o want_v do_v thou_o say_v her_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n can_v there_o be_v too_o much_o to_o make_v thou_o happy_a these_o thing_n be_v not_o only_o thy_o duty_n but_o thy_o happiness_n glory_n and_o excellency_n consist_v in_o they_o if_o any_o one_o shall_v bring_v you_o a_o great_a many_o jewel_n and_o pearl_n will_v you_o say_v here_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n ado_n oh_o no_o the_o more_o the_o merry_a so_o say_v i_o this_o one_o meditatiion_n will_v take_v off_o the_o thought_n of_o a_o deal_n for_o in_o all_o these_o my_o happiness_n consist_v and_o the_o more_o i_o have_v of_o these_o the_o more_o shall_v i_o enjoy_v of_o god_n the_o more_o happy_a shall_v i_o be_v both_o here_o and_o for_o ever_o now_o i_o have_v think_v to_o have_v give_v you_o some_o reason_n why_o the_o name_n of_o god_n must_v be_v sanctify_v only_o i_o beseech_v you_o by_o all_o that_o have_v be_v say_v go_v away_o with_o this_o thought_n what_o little_a cause_n be_v there_o that_o any_o of_o we_o shall_v rest_v upon_o any_o of_o our_o duty_n if_o this_o be_v require_v of_o we_o thus_o to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o duty_n i_o say_v we_o have_v little_a cause_n any_o of_o we_o to_o rest_v on_o any_o duty_n that_o we_o perform_v there_o be_v many_o poor_a creature_n that_o have_v no_o other_o savior_n to_o rest_n upon_o but_o their_o prayer_n and_o come_v to_o church_n and_o take_v the_o communion_n now_o if_o in_o all_o these_o the_o lord_n expect_v that_o thou_o shall_v thus_o sanctify_v his_o name_n thou_o have_v little_a cause_n to_o rest_v upon_o any_o thing_n that_o thou_o have_v do_v thou_o have_v cause_v rather_o to_o go_v alone_o and_o mourn_v for_o take_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o vain_a in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n rest_v not_o in_o any_o of_o your_o performance_n labour_v to_o perform_v duty_n as_o well_o as_o you_o can_v but_o when_o you_o have_v do_v know_v that_o you_o be_v unprofitable_a servant_n after_o all_o and_o renounce_v all_o as_o in_o all_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n 1._o the_o first_o reason_n be_v this_o it_o be_v the_o very_a nature_n of_o god_n to_o will_n himself_o the_o last_o end_n and_o all_o other_o thing_n to_o work_v suitable_a to_o the_o lift_v up_o of_o himself_o as_o the_o last_o end_n i_o say_v it_o be_v as_o essential_a to_o he_o as_o any_o thing_n for_o he_o to_o will_n himself_o as_o the_o high_a end_n and_o that_o all_o thing_n shall_v work_v so_o as_o to_o be_v suitable_a unto_o that_o glory_n of_o his_o for_o the_o furtherance_n of_o it_o god_n shall_v cease_v to_o be_v god_n if_o so_o be_v he_o shall_v not_o will_v himself_o as_o the_o high_a end_n and_o so_o will_v that_o all_o thing_n that_o have_v any_o being_n shall_v some_o way_n or_o other_o work_n for_o himself_o this_o be_v the_o very_a nature_n of_o god_n it_o be_v that_o which_o i_o conceive_v the_o very_a nature_n of_o god_n holiness_n consist_v in_o the_o willing_a himself_o as_o the_o last_o end_n and_o so_o to_o work_v all_o thing_n as_o suitable_a unto_o his_o own_o infinite_a excellency_n now_o as_o this_o be_v god_n holiness_n so_o it_o be_v the_o holiness_n that_o god_n require_v in_o his_o creature_n that_o be_v capable_a of_o holiness_n that_o they_o shall_v will_v he_o as_o the_o last_o end_n and_o all_o thing_n suitable_a to_o that_o infinite_a excellency_n of_o his._n now_o if_o this_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o god_n and_o this_o be_v his_o holiness_n then_o certain_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o necessary_a duty_n in_o all_o those_o that_o will_v have_v communion_n with_o god_n and_o will_v honour_v god_n to_o will_v as_o god_n himself_o do_v will_n that_o be_v that_o all_o thing_n shall_v work_v suitable_a to_o the_o infinite_a excellency_n of_o god_n that_o god_n may_v attain_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o infinite_a excellency_n and_o this_o make_v it_o to_o be_v a_o necessary_a duty_n that_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o we_o shall_v sanctify_v his_o name_n so_o that_o the_o first_o reason_n be_v take_v from_o the_o very_a nature_n of_o god_n it_o be_v the_o very_o be_v of_o god_n that_o all_o thing_n shall_v work_v to_o himself_o and_o in_o such_o a_o suitable_a way_n as_o to_o lift_v up_o his_o excellency_n and_o glory_n 2._o second_o we_o must_v sanctify_v god_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n because_o it_o be_v the_o special_a glory_n that_o god_n have_v in_o the_o world_n to_o be_v active_o honour_v for_o his_o passive_a glory_n that_o be_v to_o be_v glorify_v in_o a_o passive_a way_n that_o he_o have_v in_o hell_n but_o the_o special_a glory_n that_o god_n will_v have_v it_o be_v that_o he_o may_v be_v glorify_v active_o now_o there_o be_v no_o such_o way_n of_o glorify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n active_o as_o by_o worship_v of_o he_o in_o a_o holy_a manner_n and_o therefore_o god_n stand_v much_o upon_o this_o that_o when_o we_o come_v to_o worship_v he_o we_o sanctify_v his_o name_n for_o say_v god_n if_o i_o be_v not_o sanctify_v in_o my_o worship_n what_o active_a glory_n have_v i_o in_o the_o world_n it_o be_v the_o special_a active_a glory_n that_o god_n have_v in_o the_o world_n the_o sanctify_a of_o his_o name_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o his_o worship_n 3._o three_o that_o which_o we_o have_v intimate_v before_o that_o the_o duty_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v the_o most_o precious_a thing_n the_o special_a conveyance_n of_o the_o choice_a mercy_n that_o he_o intend_v to_o bestow_v on_o his_o saint_n and_o therefore_o though_o he_o lose_v his_o glory_n in_o any_o thing_n else_o he_o will_v not_o lose_v it_o in_o that_o wherein_o he_o do_v especial_o convey_v his_o mercy_n and_o goodness_n to_o his_o
way_n or_o other_o appear_v to_o be_v against_o i_o in_o such_o duty_n that_o i_o tender_v up_o unto_o he_o now_o you_o will_v say_v how_o do_v god_n appear_v that_o he_o do_v not_o accept_v of_o they_o he_o will_v appear_v in_o these_o three_o thing_n 1._o first_o by_o blast_v those_o that_o do_v worship_n he_o thus_o in_o a_o formal_a way_n it_o shall_v at_o first_o be_v secret_a but_o afterward_o it_o will_v appear_v more_o apparent_o and_o we_o see_v it_o by_o experience_n that_o such_o as_o have_v be_v professor_n of_o religion_n and_o worship_n god_n in_o hypocrisy_n and_o in_o formality_n they_o have_v be_v blast_v in_o their_o part_n and_o common_a gift_n the_o judgement_n of_o god_n upon_o nadab_n and_o abihu_n that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n it_o be_v secret_a at_o first_o it_o strike_v they_o dead_a and_o though_o by_o fire_n yet_o if_o you_o read_v the_o story_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o their_o clothes_n be_v not_o burn_v and_o yet_o they_o be_v burn_v in_o their_o body_n so_o the_o lord_n sometime_o do_v blast_v man_n inward_o in_o their_o spirit_n in_o their_o soul_n in_o their_o part_n in_o their_o common_a gift_n he_o blast_v they_o i_o say_v inward_o though_o it_o do_v not_o appear_v outward_o yet_o at_o length_n it_o will_v appear_v before_o man_n that_o they_o be_v blast_v and_o in_o these_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o lord_n do_v come_v with_o spiritual_a judgement_n rather_o than_o with_o outward_a temporal_a judgement_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n those_o that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n the_o lord_n do_v appear_v by_o some_o external_a and_o visible_a way_n upon_o their_o body_n but_o now_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n there_o god_n come_v with_o more_o spiritual_a judgement_n upon_o man_n soul_n and_o those_o be_v the_o most_o terrible_a judgement_n we_o have_v a_o notable_a scripture_n for_o this_o in_o isa_n 29._o 13._o how_o god_n do_v blast_v those_o that_o do_v not_o sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o holy_a duty_n wherefore_o the_o lord_n say_v forasmuch_o as_o this_o people_n draw_v near_o i_o with_o their_o mouth_n and_o with_o their_o lip_n do_v honour_n i_o but_o have_v remove_v their_o heart_n far_o from_o i_o and_o their_o fear_n towards_o i_o be_v teach_v by_o the_o precept_n of_o man_n mark_v what_o follow_v therefore_o behold_v i_o will_v proceed_v to_o do_v a_o marvellous_a work_n among_o this_o people_n even_o a_o marvellous_a work_n and_o a_o wonder_n for_o the_o wisdom_n of_o their_o wise_a man_n shall_v perish_v and_o the_o understanding_n of_o their_o prudent_a man_n shall_v be_v hide_v what_o do_v they_o come_v and_o draw_v near_o i_o with_o their_o lip_n and_o their_o heart_n be_v far_o from_o i_o and_o do_v they_o worship_v i_o in_o a_o formal_a way_n i_o will_v take_v away_o the_o wisdom_n from_o the_o wise_a and_o the_o understanding_n from_o the_o prudent_a and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o so_o many_o great_a scholar_n be_v blast_v in_o their_o very_a part_n because_o they_o will_v worship_v god_n according_a to_o the_o precept_n of_o man_n in_o a_o formal_a way_n and_o so_o all_o hypocrite_n and_o formal_a worshipper_n the_o lord_n do_v blast_v they_o in_o one_o way_n or_o other_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n upon_o the_o spirit_n of_o man_n be_v sometime_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n but_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o gospel_n there_o we_o find_v general_o the_o judgement_n of_o god_n to_o be_v more_o spiritual_a upon_o the_o heart_n and_o conscience_n of_o man_n we_o find_v it_o by_o experience_n god_n do_v discover_v that_o he_o do_v not_o accept_v of_o such_o as_o those_o be_v and_o therefore_o when_o you_o see_v any_o that_o have_v make_v profession_n of_o religion_n that_o have_v excellent_a part_n at_o first_o many_o common_a gift_n and_o now_o be_v as_o we_o say_v no_o body_n remember_v this_o text_n that_o god_n will_v be_v sanctify_v in_o those_o that_o come_v nigh_o he_o second_o the_o lord_n do_v manifest_a that_o he_o will_v be_v sanctify_v in_o those_o that_o draw_v nigh_o he_o by_o awake_v their_o conscience_n many_o time_n upon_o their_o sick_a bed_n and_o death_n bed_n the_o lord_n do_v force_v they_o to_o give_v glory_n to_o he_o and_o there_o to_o acknowledge_v that_o they_o do_v not_o worship_n god_n in_o uprightness_n but_o in_o formality_n and_o now_o they_o be_v in_o horror_n of_o conscience_n and_o cry_v out_o in_o the_o anguish_n of_o their_o soul_n upon_o the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o dreadful_a wrath_n of_o god_n that_o be_v upon_o they_o take_v heed_n for_o the_o lord_n sake_n of_o this_o thing_n when_o you_o be_v perform_v of_o the_o duty_n of_o worship_n do_v not_o rest_v in_o the_o outward_a duty_n for_o they_o will_v never_o comfort_v you_o upon_o your_o sick_a and_o death_n bed_n you_o may_v perhaps_o put_v off_o your_o conscience_n a_o little_a for_o the_o present_a but_o when_o you_o come_v upon_o your_o sick_a bed_n there_o will_v be_v no_o comfort_n unto_o you_o and_o then_o you_o will_v be_v force_v to_o say_v well_o all_o this_o while_n i_o have_v but_o take_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o vain_a and_o now_o god_n have_v reject_v i_o and_o all_o my_o service_n and_o you_o will_v then_o speak_v to_o those_o that_o come_v about_o your_o bed_n side_n and_o bid_v they_o take_v warning_n by_o you_o take_v heed_n that_o when_o you_o worship_n god_n you_o worship_v he_o to_o purpose_n i_o have_v spend_v time_n in_o prayer_n and_o hear_v but_o for_o want_v of_o this_o i_o find_v i_o have_v no_o comfort_n at_o all_o but_o the_o lord_n appear_v to_o be_v terrible_a to_o my_o soul_n and_o come_v out_o against_o i_o as_o a_o enemy_n i_o say_v now_o god_n name_n be_v sanctify_v whatever_o become_v of_o thou_o he_o will_v force_v glory_n from_o thou_o one_o way_n or_o other_o and_o it_o may_v be_v even_o here_o in_o this_o time_n of_o thy_o life_n but_o however_o at_o the_o great_a day_n when_o the_o secret_n of_o all_o heart_n must_v be_v disclose_v before_o man_n and_o angle_n than_o the_o lord_n will_v appear_v to_o be_v a_o holy_a god_n by_o reject_v all_o such_o if_o thou_o do_v sanctify_v his_o name_n further_o thou_o shall_v it_o may_v be_v not_o always_o have_v such_o glorious_a comfort_n the_o full_a beam_n of_o the_o sun_n rise_v upon_o thou_o but_o at_o and_o prayer_n other_o thing_n come_v under_o worship_n but_o yet_o these_o be_v the_o three_o chief_a duty_n of_o worship_n and_o i_o intend_v to_o speak_v to_o all_o these_o three_o and_o to_o show_v how_o we_o shall_v sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o draw_v nigh_o unto_o he_o in_o the_o word_n sacrament_n and_o prayer_n we_o may_v choose_v several_a text_n for_o all_o these_o but_o they_o fall_v full_a within_o the_o general_n and_o therefore_o it_o shall_v be_v sufficient_a for_o to_o ground_v the_o sanctify_a of_o god_n name_n in_o these_o duty_n of_o worship_n upon_o this_o text._n 1._o of_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n that_o which_o we_o be_v to_o speak_v to_o this_o morning_n it_o be_v the_o sanctify_a of_o the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o his_o word_n if_o you_o will_v have_v the_o ground_n of_o what_o we_o be_v to_o say_v concern_v this_o in_o a_o particular_a scripture_n you_o may_v have_v it_o in_o luke_n 8._o 18._o take_v heed_n therefore_o how_o you_o hear_v it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n that_o be_v good_a and_o no_o question_n but_o god_n be_v please_v with_o the_o willingness_n of_o people_n to_o come_v to_o hear_v his_o word_n but_o you_o must_v not_o rest_v bare_o in_o hear_v but_o take_v heed_n how_o you_o hear_v now_o this_o be_v a_o point_n of_o great_a consequence_n and_o i_o hope_v it_o may_v do_v good_a to_o help_v to_o make_v many_o sermon_n to_o be_v profitable_a to_o you_o and_o the_o point_n i_o hope_v be_v seasonable_a and_o will_v be_v very_o suitable_a unto_o you_o for_o those_o that_o come_v to_o hear_v so_o soon_o in_o a_o morning_n and_o be_v willing_a even_o in_o hard_a weather_n to_o come_v out_o of_o their_o bed_n they_o give_v some_o good_a testimony_n that_o they_o do_v desire_n to_o honour_n god_n in_o their_o hear_n and_o to_o get_v good_a by_o their_o hear_n and_o it_o be_v pity_n that_o labour_n and_o pain_n shall_v be_v bestow_v and_o no_o profit_n but_o hurt_v rather_o get_v by_o it_o which_o god_n forbid_v therefore_o now_o i_o be_o to_o speak_v to_o a_o point_n that_o may_v help_v you_o so_o to_o hear_v as_o may_v recompense_v all_o your_o labour_n and_o pain_n in_o hear_v in_o preach_v to_o those_o that_o come_v to_o hear_v so_o that_o they_o may_v get_v good_a and_o benefit_n by_o it_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n more_o encouragement_n than_o to_o such_o as_o come_v in_o a_o formal_a way_n because_o they_o use_v to_o come_v therefore_o this_o point_n be_v a_o great_a point_n i_o will_v sanctify_v himself_o in_o such_o as_o do_v not_o sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o his_o word_n five_o how_o god_n will_v sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o way_n of_o mercy_n to_o worship_n certain_o the_o hear_n of_o god_n word_n it_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o worship_n of_o god_n for_o in_o the_o hear_n of_o god_n word_n we_o first_o do_v profess_v our_o dependence_n upon_o god_n for_o the_o know_v of_o his_o mind_n and_o the_o way_n to_o eternal_a life_n every_o time_n we_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n if_o we_o know_v what_o we_o do_v we_o do_v thus_o much_o we_o do_v profess_v that_o we_o do_v depend_v upon_o the_o lord_n god_n for_o the_o know_v of_o his_o mind_n and_o the_o way_n and_o rule_n to_o eternal_a life_n we_o do_v as_o much_o as_o if_o we_o shall_v say_v lord_n of_o ourselves_o we_o neither_o know_v thou_o nor_o the_o way_n and_o mean_n how_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o be_v save_v and_o therefore_o that_o we_o may_v testify_v our_o word_n than_o to_o entertain_v christ_n in_o your_o house_n you_o that_o be_v of_o love_a disposition_n that_o if_o a_o good_a minister_n shall_v come_v to_o your_o house_n or_o a_o good_a christian_a that_o you_o see_v but_o the_o image_n of_o christ_n in_o your_o heart_n spring_v within_o you_o and_o you_o will_v do_v any_o thing_n to_o entertain_v they_o well_o but_o what_o if_o jesus_n christ_n shall_v come_v if_o you_o know_v that_o such_o a_o man_n that_o come_v within_o your_o door_n be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n how_o will_v you_o bestir_v yourselves_o to_o entertain_v he_o but_o know_v he_o give_v ear_n to_o we_o when_o we_o speak_v to_o he_o god_n be_v say_v to_o incline_v his_o ear_n sometime_o to_o open_v his_o ear_n sometime_o to_o bow_v his_o ear_n sometime_o to_o cause_v his_o ear_n to_o hear_v and_o divers_a such_o expression_n there_o be_v to_o that_o purpose_n now_o if_o god_n when_o we_o that_o be_v poor_a wretch_n speak_v to_o he_o shall_v bow_v his_o ear_n bend_v his_o ear_n open_v his_o ear_n cause_v his_o ear_n to_o hear_v much_o more_o shall_v we_o when_o we_o come_v to_o attend_v upon_o he_o 2._o second_o as_o there_o must_v be_v attend_v to_o the_o word_n of_o god_n so_o there_o must_v be_v a_o open_n of_o the_o heart_n to_o receive_v what_o god_n speak_v to_o you_o it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v the_o work_n of_o god_n to_o open_v the_o heart_n but_o god_n work_v upon_o man_n as_o upon_o rational_a creature_n and_o he_o make_v you_o to_o be_v active_a in_o open_v your_o heart_n so_o that_o when_o you_o have_v any_o truth_n come_v to_o be_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o the_o sea_n toss_v up_o and_o down_o and_o in_o a_o great_a storm_n now_o why_o do_v not_o you_o pray_v as_o earnest_o for_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n among_o his_o church_n as_o for_o yourselves_o when_o you_o be_v in_o a_o storm_n at_o sea_n yea_o and_o spiritual_a thing_n shall_v be_v the_o chief_a matter_n of_o your_o prayer_n for_o they_o be_v the_o near_a and_o desire_v he_o to_o bring_v such_o and_o such_o evil_n upon_o their_o neighbour_n yea_o sometime_o parent_n upon_o their_o child_n this_o be_v a_o wicked_a practice_n of_o man_n what_o be_v it_o not_o wickedness_n enough_o for_o thou_o to_o have_v any_o desire_n that_o there_o shall_v any_o evil_a befall_v thy_o brother_n but_o will_v thou_o dare_v to_o presume_v to_o call_v god_n to_o be_v a_o instrument_n of_o the_o execution_n of_o thy_o base_a sinful_a wrath_n that_o god_n must_v be_v a_o drudge_n as_o it_o be_v to_o thy_o wrath_n and_o to_o thy_o passion_n this_o be_v abominable_a wickedness_n any_o of_o you_o that_o ever_o have_v be_v guilty_a of_o this_o sin_n of_o curse_v other_o wives_z child_n servant_n or_o friend_n the_o lord_n rebuke_v you_o for_o this_o sin_n how_o man_n they_o will_v think_v you_o speak_v strange_a riddle_n whereas_o they_o bless_v themselves_o they_o bless_v god_n they_o know_v no_o such_o thing_n in_o their_o heart_n no_o yes_o there_o be_v and_o yet_o they_o come_v again_o do_v but_o try_v for_o this_o week_n as_o i_o remember_v i_o say_v in_o the_o point_n of_o passion_n and_o anger_n that_o we_o shall_v resolve_v with_o ourselves_o well_o whatsoever_o fall_v out_o this_o morning_n i_o be_o resolve_v i_o will_v bear_v it_o so_o bethink_v thyself_o how_o many_o prayer_n thou_o have_v lose_v by_o vain_a thought_n and_o now_o
