intend_v to_o put_v a_o bond_n upon_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o saint_n without_o the_o observation_n whereof_o their_o prayer_n can_v be_v no_o way_n acceptable_a but_o i_o fear_v lest_o our_o prefer_n in_o our_o form_n of_o prayer_n the_o pray_v for_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n and_o god_n grace_n and_o blessing_n to_o be_v pour_v down_o upon_o we_o in_o particular_a before_o the_o seek_n of_o the_o sanctify_a of_o his_o name_n the_o do_v of_o his_o will_n and_o come_v of_o his_o kingdom_n do_v not_o proceed_v out_o of_o a_o self-love_n and_o great_a desire_n we_o have_v of_o our_o own_o salvation_n than_o of_o god_n glory_n simple_o therefore_o in_o simplicity_n if_o we_o take_v these_o word_n to_o be_v the_o apostle_n exhortation_n which_o be_v the_o agreement_n of_o most_o interpreter_n and_o the_o best_a gramaticall_a construction_n of_o the_o word_n exhort_v as_o appear_v by_o the_o use_n thereof_o in_o other_o place_n than_o i_o can_v not_o but_o conceive_v his_o intent_n to_o be_v not_o only_o to_o note_v the_o dignity_n of_o these_o duty_n but_o also_o the_o very_a order_n of_o performance_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v do_v in_o the_o first_o place_n and_o before_o all_o other_o thing_n and_o indeed_o the_o apostle_n who_o have_v as_o little_a need_n to_o pray_v as_o any_o be_v not_o prone_a to_o err_v in_o their_o doctrine_n do_v place_n it_o first_o in_o order_n of_o their_o ministerial_a administration_n viz_o 4._o viz_o act._n 6_o 4._o prayer_n and_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n and_o if_o we_o consider_v well_o the_o worthiness_n and_o difficulty_n of_o this_o duty_n it_o shall_v not_o only_o have_v the_o preferment_n in_o our_o thought_n but_o also_o in_o our_o practice_n wherefore_o i_o conclude_v hence_o that_o it_o be_v a_o approve_a &_o laudable_a practice_n which_o the_o church_n of_o the_o saint_n have_v learned_a and_o do_v use_v and_o good_a it_o be_v that_o they_o shall_v continue_v the_o reverend_a observation_n thereof_o namely_o that_o before_o they_o enter_v into_o the_o administration_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n they_o make_v prayer_n supplication_n inrercession_n and_o give_v of_o thanks_n to_o god_n for_o indeed_o it_o be_v by_o prayer_n that_o we_o procure_v help_v and_o assistance_n to_o administer_v hear_v and_o understand_v the_o word_n prayer_n and_o thanksgiving_n shall_v therefore_o be_v the_o first_o and_o last_o the_o beginning_n and_o end_n the_o opening_z and_o shut_v up_o of_o every_o christian_a assembly_n begin_v there_o with_o that_o we_o may_v have_v help_n to_o perform_v together_o in_o my_o name_n there_o be_o i_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o they_o and_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v say_v whither_o you_o eat_v or_o drink_v or_o whatsoever_o you_o do_v do_v all_o to_o the_o to_o minister_v the_o word_n unto_o they_o that_o they_o be_v such_o as_o be_v endue_v with_o the_o spirit_n of_o supplication_n also_o and_o that_o in_o no_o less_o a_o measure_n than_o with_o the_o spirit_n of_o pprophecy_n and_o that_o because_o these_o be_v the_o chief_a and_o principal_a duty_n and_o indeed_o when_o man_n have_v well_o and_o effectual_o perform_v this_o duty_n a_o good_a half_a of_o the_o work_n be_v do_v and_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n that_o see_v prayer_n and_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n be_v the_o most_o ordinary_a and_o frequent_a administration_n of_o this_o kind_n of_o church-officer_n that_o who_o the_o lord_n have_v fit_v for_o the_o one_o be_v also_o endue_v with_o ability_n to_o perform_v the_o other_o and_o therefore_o hereby_o may_v be_v see_v the_o ignorance_n of_o those_o people_n that_o have_v admit_v those_o to_o be_v thrust_v upon_o they_o as_o curate_n of_o their_o soul_n who_o though_o they_o have_v make_v shift_n now_o and_o then_o to_o tickle_v they_o with_o a_o homily_n or_o it_o may_v be_v to_o pronounce_v a_o long_o study_v for_o sermon_n yet_o have_v be_v no_o way_n able_a to_o pour_v out_o upon_o all_o occasion_n prayer_n and_o thanksgiving_n to_o god_n otherwise_o than_o out_o of_o a_o book_n or_o a_o stint_a form_n which_o they_o have_v with_o much_o a_o do_v collect_v together_o and_o learned_a without_o book_n which_o they_o have_v use_v as_o a_o common_a hackney_n in_o their_o devotion_n if_o we_o take_v these_o word_n as_o speak_v to_o timothy_n that_o he_o shall_v exhort_v etc._n etc._n then_o we_o must_v understand_v that_o these_o word_n first_o of_o all_o do_v commend_v unto_o he_o the_o dignity_n and_o necessity_n of_o these_o duty_n and_o it_o will_v serve_v to_o inform_v we_o that_o the_o doctrine_n concern_v prayer_n and_o thanksgiving_n be_v such_o as_o shall_v be_v upon_o all_o occasion_n teach_v in_o the_o church_n and_o the_o people_n of_o god_n be_v earnest_o exhort_v to_o the_o practice_n of_o they_o and_o that_o as_o principal_n and_o espetiall_a duty_n to_o be_v by_o they_o perform_v yea_o and_o if_o we_o mind_n the_o apostle_n omit_v to_o set_v down_o any_o particular_a person_n who_o he_o do_v exhort_v though_o it_o be_v before_o in_o the_o entrance_n intymate_v that_o he_o intend_v principal_o the_o church_n of_o ephesus_n yet_o name_v none_o he_o show_v that_o neither_o timothy_n the_o evangelist_n to_o who_o he_o write_v this_o epistle_n nor_o the_o church_n in_o general_a nor_o any_o particular_a member_n thereof_o high_a or_o low_o rich_a or_o poor_a for_o the_o obtain_n of_o a_o happy_a issue_n of_o all_o these_o distraction_n for_o say_v the_o psalmist_n
