rich_a man_n to_o enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n so_o no_o more_o can_v a_o wicked_a man_n renounce_v his_o course_n for_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o flesh_n that_o be_v of_o man_n unrenue_v be_v a_o enemy_n to_o god_n because_o it_o neither_o be_v nor_o can_v be_v subject_a unto_o he_o if_o this_o be_v thorough_o settle_v in_o man_n heart_n man_n that_o there_o be_v no_o dram_n of_o goodness_n in_o they_o by_o which_o they_o may_v be_v able_a to_o turn_v from_o their_o former_a wicked_a way_n but_o that_o their_o carnal_a wisdom_n and_o reason_n to_o the_o which_o they_o most_o cleave_v do_v hinder_v and_o hold_v they_o back_o from_o it_o whereby_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o it_o be_v so_o hard_a for_o they_o to_o renounce_v all_o that_o which_o be_v evil_a will_v they_o not_o think_v it_o worth_a all_o labour_n and_o travail_v to_o come_v by_o it_o who_o now_o be_v content_a to_o be_v deceive_v in_o think_v that_o they_o have_v it_o and_o yet_o be_v utter_o without_o it_o neither_o can_v this_o be_v otherwise_o with_o they_o while_o their_o heart_n be_v untamed_a and_o remain_v in_o their_o old_a estate_n but_o when_o they_o be_v endue_v with_o new_a quality_n they_o shall_v find_v this_o both_o possible_a and_o easy_a as_o have_v be_v say_v to_o command_v their_o lust_n and_o desire_n which_o be_v sometime_o unruly_a and_o have_v they_o in_o the_o good_a fruit_n and_o duty_n which_o proceed_v from_o the_o same_o and_o these_o kind_n of_o evil_a be_v of_o two_o sort_n renounce_v either_o inward_a or_o outward_a and_o to_o speak_v distinct_o of_o they_o that_o i_o may_v proceed_v we_o be_v teach_v that_o in_o the_o godly_a life_n lust_n in_o whosoever_o it_o be_v find_v the_o lust_n and_o concupiscence_n which_o reign_n throughout_o the_o world_n and_o make_v they_o who_o they_o rule_v to_o be_v as_o bruit_n beast_n these_o corrupt_a lust_n i_o say_v with_o all_o other_o such_o defilement_n of_o our_o action_n be_v receive_v another_o manner_n of_o spirit_n then_o the_o man_n of_o the_o world_n and_o therefore_o can_v take_v up_o their_o delight_n in_o better_a thing_n and_o who_o know_v the_o hurt_n which_o these_o unruly_a evil_n bring_v with_o they_o whatsoever_o show_v of_o pleasure_n they_o offer_v and_o although_o all_o have_v conflict_n with_o they_o measure_n and_o do_v not_o hold_v they_o under_o in_o a_o like_a measure_n yet_o of_o the_o weak_a of_o god_n child_n they_o be_v hate_v and_o strive_v against_o when_o they_o be_v once_o see_v and_o perceive_v but_o by_o these_o inward_a evil_n i_o mean_v not_o the_o native_a infection_n of_o the_o heart_n for_o of_o this_o i_o have_v speak_v before_o 1.14_o but_o the_o fruit_n hereof_o namely_o the_o wander_a noisome_a &_o blind_a thought_n fleshly_a desire_n and_o worldly_a lust_n which_o arise_v from_o the_o hart_n so_o infect_v which_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n and_o tend_v direct_o to_o the_o destruction_n of_o they_o who_o bring_v they_o forth_o so_o that_o as_o the_o hand_n foot_n and_o eye_n be_v the_o member_n of_o the_o body_n simile_n and_o do_v whatsoever_o the_o body_n have_v need_n of_o 3.5_o impious_a against_o god_n second_o injurious_a to_o man_n and_o the_o three_o sort_n most_o proper_o concern_v themselves_o table_n as_o touch_v the_o majesty_n of_o god_n as_o man_n heart_n be_v he_o shall_v have_v a_o more_o continual_a fear_n of_o they_o watchfulness_n against_o they_o and_o bestow_v more_o time_n in_o seek_v the_o root_n out_o of_o they_o that_o so_o the_o wealth_n and_o our_o heart_n must_v not_o range_v where_o they_o list_v nor_o our_o delight_n be_v fasten_v where_o we_o please_v but_o our_o eye_n our_o tongue_n our_o ear_n hand_n foot_n and_o the_o whole_a power_n of_o our_o mind_n 28.14_o and_o member_n of_o our_o body_n must_v behold_v within_o compass_n in_o so_o much_o that_o if_o we_o see_v we_o have_v but_o break_v out_o of_o our_o constant_a of_o purpose_n see_v we_o both_o must_v mind_v such_o thing_n in_o good_a advisednes_n and_o set_v ourselves_o about_o they_o resolute_o when_o we_o take_v they_o in_o hand_n that_o they_o may_v be_v do_v with_o more_o reverence_n and_o profit_n and_o also_o see_v it_o fall_v out_o for_o the_o most_o part_n that_o we_o seldom_o enter_v into_o meditation_n of_o heavenly_a thing_n when_o we_o do_v not_o intend_v they_o but_o be_v lead_v by_o the_o object_n of_o our_o mind_n eye_n or_o ear_n a_o hundred_o way_n amiss_o or_o if_o any_o good_a thought_n arise_v it_o be_v repel_v by_o and_o by_o and_o go_v no_o further_a to_o proceed_v i_o say_v that_o when_o we_o meditate_v we_o ought_v to_o separate_v ourselves_o from_o all_o company_n and_o troublesome_a occasion_n 6._o as_o our_o saviour_n command_v we_o to_o do_v when_o we_o pray_v private_o these_o two_o be_v companion_n as_o in_o our_o chamber_n private_o or_o in_o the_o field_n or_o some_o commodious_a place_n that_o we_o may_v the_o better_o perform_v it_o the_o small_a occasion_n soon_o break_v we_o off_o from_o such_o service_n of_o god_n and_o i_o say_v last_o that_o we_o must_v there_o set_v our_o mind_n on_o work_n about_o the_o cogitation_n of_o thing_n heavenly_a by_o call_v to_o remembrance_n some_o one_o or_o other_o of_o they_o which_o we_o know_v and_o so_o debate_n and_o reason_n about_o the_o same_o that_o our_o affection_n may_v thereby_o be_v move_v to_o love_n and_o delight_n in_o or_o to_o hate_v and_o fear_n according_a to_o that_o which_o we_o meditate_v on_o so_o that_o we_o may_v make_v some_o good_a use_n of_o it_o to_o ourselves_o and_o this_o spiritual_a exercise_n of_o meditation_n be_v even_o that_o which_o put_v life_n and_o strength_n into_o all_o other_o duty_n and_o part_n of_o god_n worship_n and_o this_o the_o holy_a ghost_n report_v of_o isaac_n the_o patriarch_n 24.63_o that_o he_o go_v out_o into_o the_o field_n towards_o the_o evening_n to_o meditate_v multiplicity_n of_o business_n in_o this_o world_n be_v trouble_v and_o distract_v may_v seek_v ease_n to_o our_o mind_n by_o meditation_n for_o otherwise_o we_o may_v muse_v and_o think_v upon_o any_o good_a thing_n and_o ponder_v our_o word_n and_o action_n which_o we_o do_v to_o see_v they_o do_v aright_o which_o yet_o be_v not_o this_o kind_n of_o meditation_n that_o i_o now_o speak_v of_o but_o that_o watchfulness_n mention_v before_o which_o be_v a_o wary_a regard_n and_o take_v heed_n to_o our_o way_n in_o one_o thing_n after_o another_o which_o yet_o the_o prophet_n call_v meditation_n also_o 1.8_o as_o where_o he_o say_v all_o the_o day_n long_o do_v i_o meditate_v on_o thy_o word_n and_o in_o josua_n thou_o shall_v meditate_v day_n and_o night_n on_o the_o book_n of_o the_o law_n which_o we_o know_v can_v not_o be_v understand_v of_o meditation_n by_o intermission_n of_o company_n or_o other_o action_n and_o business_n but_o in_o their_o whole_a course_n a_o circumspect_a care_n and_o regard_n that_o they_o may_v be_v do_v after_o the_o word_n and_o the_o matter_n of_o this_o our_o meditation_n meditation_n may_v be_v of_o any_o part_n of_o god_n word_n on_o god_n himself_o his_o wisdom_n power_n his_o mercy_n or_o of_o the_o infinite_a variety_n of_o good_a thing_n which_o we_o receive_v of_o his_o free_a bounty_n also_o of_o his_o work_n and_o judgement_n or_o on_o our_o estate_n as_o our_o sin_n and_o the_o vileness_n of_o our_o corruption_n that_o we_o yet_o carry_v about_o we_o our_o mortality_n of_o the_o change_n in_o this_o world_n or_o of_o our_o deliverance_n from_o sin_n and_o death_n of_o the_o manifold_a affliction_n of_o this_o life_n and_o how_o we_o may_v in_o best_a manner_n bear_v and_o go_v through_o they_o and_o we_o ought_v not_o at_o any_o time_n to_o be_v unwilling_a to_o such_o duty_n if_o it_o be_v always_o expedient_a to_o be_v with_o the_o lord_n in_o this_o manner_n unless_o we_o can_v prove_v to_o our_o conscience_n that_o we_o be_v take_v up_o in_o thing_n more_o necessary_a neither_o can_v this_o desire_n be_v quench_v in_o we_o which_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v kindle_v but_o by_o well_o and_o contrary_o therefore_o this_o grace_n and_o heavenly_a affection_n can_v neither_o may_v well_o be_v want_v in_o the_o servant_n of_o god_n insomuch_o that_o they_o which_o be_v not_o necessary_o let_v as_o by_o poverty_n or_o otherwise_o as_o want_v of_o leisure_n be_v not_o to_o make_v this_o to_o stand_v in_o stead_n of_o their_o family_n exercise_v in_o the_o morning_n as_o especial_o preacher_n and_o student_n and_o those_o which_o do_v enjoy_v many_o &_o great_a mean_n and_o who_o be_v not_o hold_v down_o with_o poverty_n and_o such_o multitude_n of_o outward_a calamity_n and_o hindrance_n and_o who_o discouragement_n be_v but_o small_a in_o respect_n of_o other_o man_n such_o i_o say_v shall_v not_o offer_v to_o god_n so_o niggardly_a sacrifice_n as_o they_o who_o can_v do_v no_o otherwise_o but_o as_o they_o have_v receive_v more_o many_o way_n then_o their_o brethren_n so_o they_o shall_v render_v more_o than_o they_o both_o in_o this_o and_o other_o duty_n for_o otherwise_o who_o shall_v be_v example_n and_o pattern_n to_o the_o weak_a sort_n if_o such_o shall_v not_o and_o yet_o that_o i_o may_v discourage_v none_o he_o that_o shall_v offer_v but_o his_o mite_n with_o the_o poor_a widow_n willing_o have_v no_o more_o have_v do_v as_o much_o as_o any_o other_o who_o have_v great_a gift_n have_v make_v long_a prayer_n now_o if_o after_o the_o declaration_n of_o this_o duty_n in_o this_o manner_n ought_v remain_v doubtful_a let_v they_o seek_v resolution_n at_o their_o faithful_a teacher_n hand_n that_o so_o they_o may_v the_o work_n of_o our_o calling_n and_o a_o chief_a part_n of_o a_o godly_a life_n to_o do_v they_o aright_o therefore_o to_o direct_v a_o christian_a how_o to_o please_v god_n in_o the_o same_o contrary_a to_o the_o opinion_n of_o many_o and_o those_o not_o of_o the_o worst_a who_o imagine_v but_o most_o unjust_o that_o their_o call_n be_v such_o a_o let_v to_o they_o from_o the_o practice_n in_o their_o religion_n shall_v fall_v away_o from_o the_o truth_n and_o grow_v senseless_a and_o freeze_v in_o their_o dregs_n and_o filthiness_n as_o not_o only_o we_o may_v read_v in_o the_o scripture_n that_o some_o have_v do_v which_o also_o be_v member_n of_o the_o church_n but_o have_v see_v many_o carry_v good_a show_n of_o zeal_n and_o have_v many_o good_a part_n in_o they_o whereof_o some_o become_v profane_a and_o vain_a in_o their_o life_n other_o hold_v strange_a opinion_n and_o separate_v themselves_o from_o the_o church_n of_o god_n among_o who_o they_o have_v live_v familiar_o before_o neither_o be_v they_o to_o be_v blame_v by_o man_n with_o any_o reproachful_a crime_n which_o may_v be_v like_a to_o bring_v they_o thereunto_o save_v only_o this_o that_o they_o exercise_v no_o call_n but_o go_v about_o from_o place_n to_o place_n and_o settle_a themselves_o in_o none_o neither_o can_v be_v persuade_v by_o the_o dear_a of_o their_o friend_n so_o to_o do_v but_o although_o a_o man_n can_v assure_v himself_o calling_n that_o he_o shall_v never_o fall_v to_o such_o a_o depth_n of_o sin_n through_o the_o neglect_n of_o a_o vocation_n and_o follow_v of_o a_o lawful_a trade_n of_o life_n as_o there_o seldom_o come_v any_o better_a fruit_n thereof_o yet_o what_o man_n will_v but_o so_o much_o as_o live_v unprofitable_o if_o he_o may_v be_v well_o employ_v when_o god_n have_v make_v he_o for_o a_o far_o more_o excellent_a end_n and_o bring_v discredit_n and_o ill_a report_n and_o that_o just_o upon_o himself_o have_v be_v have_v in_o good_a account_n before_o of_o his_o godly_a neighbour_n and_o brethren_n or_o live_v inordinate_o and_o so_o void_a of_o comfort_n and_o that_o for_o neglect_v the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n therein_o but_o and_o again_o 34.10_o the_o lion_n shall_v be_v hunger-bitten_a but_o they_o that_o fear_v he_o shall_v not_o want_v and_o again_o the_o lord_n have_v many_o way_n to_o deliver_v he_o and_o know_v they_o thereby_o that_o soon_o shall_v the_o stone_n be_v turn_v into_o loaf_n of_o bread_n than_o they_o shall_v be_v forget_v and_o starve_v for_o hunger_n or_o else_o he_o will_v provide_v better_o for_o they_o but_o to_o leave_v this_o i_o may_v not_o omit_v one_o other_o objection_n objection_n which_o be_v much_o among_o man_n that_o whereas_o i_o have_v teach_v that_o if_o a_o man_n be_v never_o so_o good_a a_o labourer_n and_o diligent_a husband_n and_o so_o walk_v painful_o in_o his_o call_n yet_o none_o of_o all_o this_o commend_v he_o to_o god_n if_o he_o be_v not_o religious_a also_o man_n reply_n and_o say_v that_o such_o of_o all_o other_o be_v most_o negligent_a in_o their_o business_n as_o servant_n by_o name_n who_o they_o say_v when_o their_o mind_n shall_v be_v upon_o their_o work_n work_n be_v find_v oftentimes_o at_o their_o book_n and_o at_o prayer_n other_o of_o they_o sit_v idle_o and_o little_a regard_v their_o master_n advantage_n whereas_o they_o who_o occupy_v not_o themselves_o about_o religion_n but_o be_v hold_v in_o by_o fear_n or_o draw_v on_o by_o hope_n of_o reward_n be_v for_o their_o master_n profit_n and_o go_v to_o their_o work_n lusty_o whereupon_o some_o have_v go_v so_o far_o that_o they_o have_v usual_o utter_v this_o speech_n that_o when_o soever_o they_o make_v choice_n of_o servant_n they_o will_v never_o choose_v any_o which_o be_v religious_a which_o latter_a speech_n i_o answer_v if_o it_o be_v not_o add_v answer_n the_o former_a part_n may_v more_o charitable_o be_v interpret_v for_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v deny_v but_o that_o as_o in_o other_o state_n 5._o so_o there_o be_v many_o hypocrite_n among_o servant_n who_o make_v profession_n of_o religion_n as_o gehazai_n and_o many_o do_v who_o we_o read_v of_o against_o who_o i_o denounce_v by_o the_o word_n of_o the_o lord_n that_o they_o shall_v bear_v the_o punishment_n of_o their_o iniquity_n but_o to_o grow_v to_o this_o absurdity_n from_o thence_o that_o all_o religious_a servant_n be_v such_o and_o that_o they_o will_v not_o choose_v such_o to_o be_v servant_n to_o they_o the_o least_o sin_n that_o it_o can_v be_v make_v be_v that_o it_o be_v a_o rash_a and_o a_o carnal_a speech_n and_o so_o much_o the_o more_o faulty_a by_o how_o much_o he_o that_o utter_v it_o go_v for_o the_o better_a protestant_n for_o such_o declare_v that_o so_o their_o business_n be_v do_v they_o can_v bear_v any_o rudeness_n brutishness_n and_o disorder_n in_o their_o servant_n and_o so_o the_o dishonour_v of_o god_n thereby_o for_o all_o such_o behaviour_n must_v be_v look_v for_o more_o or_o less_o in_o such_o as_o be_v not_o religious_a but_o common_o such_o master_n be_v just_o meet_v with_o by_o the_o servant_n who_o they_o so_o prefer_v before_o those_o which_o be_v religious_a again_o whereas_o they_o in_o that_o speech_n condemn_v all_o which_o profess_v it_o be_v well_o know_v that_o there_o be_v many_o servant_n who_o in_o their_o particular_a call_n in_o that_o they_o be_v servant_n as_o well_o as_o in_o their_o general_n that_o they_o be_v christian_n do_v glorify_v god_n high_o and_o shine_v as_o light_n in_o their_o place_n to_o the_o shame_n of_o their_o accuser_n and_o yet_o such_o master_n may_v judge_v of_o their_o servant_n religious_a and_o christian_n practice_n by_o their_o own_o that_o all_o duty_n be_v not_o by_o and_o by_o to_o be_v look_v for_o at_o their_o hand_n which_o have_v some_o love_n and_o like_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v they_o themselves_o so_o unblameable_a in_o their_o whole_a course_n that_o other_o may_v not_o see_v as_o great_a want_n and_o fault_n in_o they_o as_o they_o see_v in_o servant_n it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v that_o such_o who_o will_v so_o speak_v as_o i_o have_v show_v do_v not_o give_v they_o always_o the_o best_a example_n but_o if_o they_o do_v let_v they_o catechise_v they_o also_o beside_o the_o public_a teach_n which_o they_o enjoy_v who_o be_v already_o willing_a to_o live_v christian_o yet_o if_o they_o be_v not_o diligent_o and_o love_o teach_v can_v so_o soon_o be_v bring_v to_o any_o great_a perfection_n and_o this_o be_v do_v let_v they_o prove_v whether_o religious_a or_o profane_a be_v the_o best_a servant_n last_o of_o man_n vocation_n this_o i_o add_v that_o i_o have_v not_o so_o urge_v the_o necessity_n of_o labour_v in_o it_o but_o that_o if_o some_o through_o extreme_a poverty_n &_o want_n of_o stock_n be_v enforce_v to_o give_v over_o occupy_v as_o have_v no_o other_o remedy_n through_o the_o hardness_n of_o their_o heart_n who_o will_v forgo_v nothing_o to_o the_o relief_n &_o set_v up_o of_o such_o &_o the_o multitude_n of_o other_o poor_a folk_n if_o it_o be_v thus_o i_o say_v that_o they_o have_v no_o other_o remedy_n nor_o be_v able_a to_o labour_v in_o any_o lawful_a call_n they_o may_v with_o the_o peace_n of_o their_o conscience_n receive_v alm_n &_o please_v god_n therein_o keep_v their_o confidence_n death_n to_o be_v the_o finisher_n of_o his_o sorrow_n it_o may_v have_v seem_v to_o give_v he_o place_n among_o the_o epicure_n who_o take_v their_o pleasure_n while_o they_o live_v look_v for_o nothing_o after_o death_n but_o that_o he_o declare_v himself_o at_o other_o time_n to_o be_v of_o a_o contrary_a mind_n but_o all_o these_o as_o i_o have_v say_v proceed_v from_o man_n frailty_n as_o we_o may_v afterward_o hear_v job_n himself_o to_o confess_v for_o who_o do_v not_o marvel_n in_o that_o so_o great_a trouble_n and_o anguish_n of_o he_o that_o he_o utter_v not_o one_o word_n such_o outrage_n but_o either_o be_v silent_a in_o he_o not_o consult_v withal_o as_o in_o heady_a and_o boisterous_a affection_n it_o come_v to_o pass_v or_o else_o it_o secret_o rebuke_v the_o tongue_n though_o no_o such_o thing_n appear_v and_o so_o likewise_o the_o faith_n lose_v for_o which_o christ_n pray_v that_o it_o may_v not_o fail_v nor_o be_v overcome_v be_v not_o extinct_a in_o he_o nor_o utter_o lose_v for_o if_o it_o have_v be_v so_o he_o will_v have_v join_v himself_o in_o familiarity_n with_o the_o jew_n and_o have_v complain_v that_o he_o have_v all_o that_o while_n
