at_o length_n the_o great_a abyss_n which_o lie_v under_o the_o earth_n and_o be_v a_o unexhausted_a storehouse_n of_o new_a vapour_n he_o add_v but_o the_o same_o heat_n which_o extract_v these_o vapour_n so_o copious_o will_v also_o hinder_v they_o from_o condense_v into_o cloud_n or_o rain_n in_o the_o warm_a part_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o there_o be_v no_o mountain_n at_o that_o time_n nor_o contrary_a wind_n nor_o any_o such_o cause_n to_o stay_v they_o or_o compress_v they_o we_o must_v consider_v how_o they_o will_v be_v dispose_v off_o to_o this_o he_o say_v as_o the_o heat_n of_o the_o sun_n be_v chief_o towards_o the_o middle_a part_n of_o the_o earth_n so_o the_o copious_a vapour_n raise_v there_o be_v once_o in_o the_o open_a air_n their_o course_n will_v be_v that_o conden_a into_o dew_n or_o rains_n continual_o this_o difficulty_n he_o say_v for_o find_v a_o source_n for_o the_o water_n in_o the_o primaeval_fw-fr earth_n be_v the_o great_a he_o meet_v with_o the_o sun_n and_o partly_o absorb_v in_o the_o sand_n yet_o their_o water_n must_v necessary_o have_v pass_v in_o the_o sand_n under_o ground_n through_o the_o part_n of_o the_o torrid_a zone_n disruption_n of_o the_o earth_n any_o second_o or_o three_o deluge_n have_v be_v impossible_a but_o what_o be_v most_o urge_v be_v that_o the_o generality_n of_o earthquake_n arise_v from_o like_a cause_n and_o often_o end_v in_o a_o like_a effect_n viz._n a_o partial_a deluge_n or_o inundation_n of_o the_o place_n or_o country_n where_o they_o happen_v to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o though_o some_o philosopher_n assign_v the_o cause_n of_o earthquake_n after_o this_o manner_n viz._n that_o the_o struggle_a of_o vapour_n raise_v and_o rarify_v by_o the_o sun_n in_o the_o earth_n sometime_o cause_v a_o disruption_n the_o earth_n thereupon_o subside_v into_o cavern_n whence_o water_n flow_v forth_o etc._n etc._n yet_o it_o will_v be_v hard_a to_o expect_v that_o man_n shall_v general_o earth_n the_o sun_n have_v nothing_o to_o do_v in_o it_o more_o than_o by_o a_o remote_a and_o general_a causality_n other_o will_v have_v they_o produce_v by_o the_o motion_n of_o subterraneous_a water_n other_o again_o by_o certain_a mouldering_n or_o foundering_n in_o certain_a cavern_n of_o the_o earth_n and_o other_o cause_n be_v assign_v for_o they_o last_o when_o the_o author_n come_v to_o the_o main_a difficulty_n as_o he_o call_v it_o viz._n the_o find_n of_o water_n sufficient_a to_o make_v a_o universal_a deluge_n which_o after_o some_o time_n shall_v so_o return_v into_o its_o channel_n that_o the_o earth_n shall_v become_v again_o habitable_a both_o which_o he_o say_v be_v as_o easy_o effect_v according_a to_o his_o explication_n set_v down_o before_o by_o i_o as_o they_o
