the_o heart_n without_o humiliation_n and_o again_o there_o may_v be_v humiliation_n and_o no_o true_a grace_n at_o all_o or_o general_a grace_n but_o not_o special_a and_o save_a grace_n but_o the_o way_n to_o make_v we_o fit_a to_o receive_v grace_n be_v to_o be_v humble_a a_o man_n may_v be_v say_v to_o receive_v christ_n by_o a_o common_a light_n of_o knowledge_n and_o hereupon_o do_v many_o the_o three_o question_n be_v this_o whether_o there_o be_v quest._n any_o kind_n of_o humiliation_n more_o than_o one_o to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o there_o be_v a_o twofold_a sorrow_n answ._n the_o first_o be_v a_o preparative_n sorrow_n the_o second_o be_v a_o godly_a sorrow_n the_o preparative_n sorrow_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n as_o it_o cause_v punishment_n or_o a_o sorrow_n for_o some_o judgement_n likely_a to_o ensue_v and_o pronounce_v against_o he_o but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o true_a sorrow_n a_o reprobate_n may_v have_v this_o sorrow_n which_o shall_v never_o be_v save_v this_o be_v the_o sorrow_n of_o judas_n and_o cain_n and_o ahab_n they_o sorrow_v but_o it_o be_v a_o false_a sorrow_n only_o a_o work_n of_o the_o flesh_n it_o have_v he_o run_v and_o hide_v himself_o a_o carnal_a man_n will_v sorrow_n either_o for_o some_o present_a judgement_n upon_o his_o person_n or_o else_o upon_o his_o substance_n but_o yet_o it_o will_v not_o turn_v the_o heart_n that_o will_v not_o work_v a_o pliable_a disposition_n in_o the_o heart_n to_o yield_v obedience_n out_o of_o love_n in_o hatred_n to_o sin_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a right_a fear_n for_o in_o this_o fear_n there_o be_v two_o thing_n first_o there_o be_v the_o fire_n of_o the_o coal_n and_o then_o second_o there_o be_v the_o filth_n of_o the_o coal_n now_o it_o be_v a_o great_a fault_n of_o many_o man_n they_o be_v more_o affright_v with_o the_o fire_n of_o the_o coal_n then_o with_o the_o filth_n of_o the_o coal_n sin_n trouble_v they_o more_o because_o of_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o hell_n and_o damnation_n which_o by_o the_o word_n they_o apprehend_v then_o because_o of_o the_o defilement_n that_o come_v by_o sin_n that_o defile_v the_o profane_v the_o sabbath_n and_o swear_v and_o be_v drink_v again_o if_o it_o be_v thus_o with_o you_o you_o be_v never_o true_o humble_v for_o if_o you_o be_v you_o will_v tremble_v at_o the_o word_n what_o shall_v we_o say_v do_v you_o tremble_v at_o the_o word_n when_o you_o be_v no_o more_o move_v at_o it_o than_o the_o seat_n you_o sit_v on_o we_o may_v preach_v the_o law_n and_o damnation_n and_o spend_v ourselves_o and_o yet_o it_o will_v not_o work_v upon_o you_o this_o effect_n as_o to_o humble_v you_o but_o till_o then_o never_o say_v that_o you_o be_v humble_v and_o by_o this_o therefore_o examine_v yourselves_o the_o three_o sign_n whereby_o a_o man_n may_v know_v sign_n whether_o he_o be_v true_o humble_v or_o no_o be_v this_o examine_v how_o you_o stand_v affect_v to_o the_o word_n when_o it_o come_v in_o the_o evidence_n of_o the_o spirit_n for_o as_o you_o be_v affect_v to_o the_o word_n so_o you_o be_v more_o or_o less_o humble_v if_o you_o feel_v a_o sweetness_n in_o the_o word_n a_o save_a power_n in_o it_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o you_o be_v true_o humble_v and_o on_o the_o contrary_a if_o the_o word_n be_v a_o unsavoury_a thing_n unto_o you_o if_o you_o
