body_n and_o a_o member_n of_o some_o society_n now_o the_o question_n that_o concern_v he_o as_o a_o member_n of_o a_o society_n be_v of_o three_o sort_n according_a to_o three_o distinct_a kind_n of_o society_n for_o every_o man_n be_v either_o a_o member_n of_o a_o family_n or_o of_o the_o church_n or_o of_o the_o commonwealth_n and_o answerable_o some_o question_n concern_v man_n as_o a_o member_n of_o a_o family_n some_o as_o he_o be_v a_o member_n of_o the_o church_n some_o as_o he_o be_v a_o member_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n in_o a_o word_n therefore_o all_o question_n touch_v man_n may_v be_v reduce_v to_o three_o general_a head_n the_o first_o whereof_o be_v concern_v man_n simple_o consider_v as_o he_o be_v a_o man_n the_o second_o touch_v man_n as_o he_o stand_v in_o lawful_a excommunication_n and_o so_o have_v no_o participation_n with_o they_o either_o in_o prayer_n hear_v the_o word_n or_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n the_o reason_n be_v for_o that_o the_o action_n of_o the_o church_n stand_v in_o force_n god_fw-we ratifi_n that_o in_o heaven_n which_o the_o church_n do_v upon_o earth_n second_o because_o by_o their_o sin_n they_o have_v as_o much_o as_o in_o they_o lie_v deprive_v themselves_o of_o the_o effectual_a power_n of_o god_n spirit_n which_o may_v rule_v and_o governo_fw-it they_o but_o in_o other_o respect_v they_o be_v member_n as_o will_v appear_v if_o we_o consider_v the_o diverse_a sort_n of_o member_n some_o be_v member_n not_o actual_o and_o in_o present_a but_o in_o the_o eternal_a counsel_n of_o god_n and_o be_v to_o be_v in_o time_n when_o they_o shall_v be_v call_v thus_o be_v paul_n before_o his_o conversion_n and_o therefore_o he_o say_v of_o himself_o that_o god_n have_v separate_v he_o from_o his_o mother_n womb_n and_o call_v he_o by_o his_o grace_n gal._n 1._o 15._o also_o of_o himself_o and_o other_o believer_v he_o say_v when_o we_o be_v enemy_n we_o be_v reconcile_v to_o god_n by_o the_o death_n of_o his_o son_n rom._n 5._o 10._o some_o again_o be_v member_n only_o in_o show_n and_o appearance_n of_o which_o sort_n be_v hypocrite_n which_o seem_v by_o their_o outward_a profession_n to_o be_v that_o they_o be_v not_o indeed_o wherein_o they_o resemble_v the_o wooden_a leg_n that_o be_v cunning_o fasten_v to_o the_o body_n but_o indeed_o be_v no_o leg_n nor_o part_n of_o the_o body_n whereto_o it_o be_v adjoin_v a_o three_o sort_n be_v lively_a member_n which_o be_v unite_v unto_o christ_n by_o faith_n and_o have_v fellowship_n with_o god_n in_o he_o be_v justify_v sanctify_a govern_v and_o preserve_v by_o his_o spirit_n and_o withal_o do_v feel_v and_o show_v forth_o the_o power_n of_o the_o same_o spirit_n dwell_v in_o they_o of_o these_o paul_n speak_v rom._n 8._o 14._o as_o many_o as_o be_v lead_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n they_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n the_o four_o sort_n be_v decay_v member_n which_o though_o they_o belong_v to_o god_n election_n and_o be_v plant_n true_o ingraft_v into_o the_o vine_n christ_n jesus_n yet_o for_o the_o present_a have_v not_o a_o lively_a sense_n of_o the_o power_n and_o virtue_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n in_o they_o these_o may_v fit_o be_v resemble_v to_o the_o leg_n of_o a_o man_n or_o some_o other_o part_n that_o have_v the_o dead_a palsy_n which_o though_o it_o remain_v for_o some_o time_n without_o feel_v and_o uncapable_a of_o nourishment_n yet_o be_v join_v to_o the_o body_n it_o may_v by_o virtue_n of_o some_o strong_a medicine_n be_v recover_v and_o make_v whole_a as_o the_o other_o of_o this_o sort_n be_v excommunicate_a person_n for_o in_o regard_n of_o their_o engraff_n they_o be_v true_a member_n and_o can_v not_o be_v quite_o cut_v off_o from_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n joh._n 10._o 28._o though_o otherwise_o they_o be_v not_o hold_v so_o to_o be_v in_o a_o threefold_a respect_n one_o in_o regard_n of_o man_n because_o they_o be_v exclude_v from_o their_o holy_a communion_n with_o the_o faithful_a by_o the_o church_n censure_n the_o second_o in_o regard_n of_o god_n because_o that_o which_o the_o church_n right_o bind_v on_o earth_n be_v bind_v in_o heaven_n the_o three_o in_o regard_n of_o themselves_o because_o for_o a_o time_n they_o want_v the_o power_n and_o efficacy_n of_o the_o spirit_n until_o they_o be_v thorough_o touch_v with_o repentance_n and_o begin_v as_o it_o be_v to_o live_v again_o now_o though_o in_o these_o respect_n they_o be_v not_o esteem_v member_n of_o the_o
