all_o man_n be_v confident_a of_o their_o assurance_n in_o they_o that_o it_o be_v from_o god_n spirit_n because_o indeed_o all_o christian_n be_v in_o these_o agree_v yet_o in_o descend_v to_o particular_n as_o whether_o such_o or_o such_o a_o book_n of_o scripture_n be_v god_n word_n or_o be_v write_v by_o a_o heavenly-inspired_n author_n whether_o such_o a_o particular_a point_n of_o faith_n be_v to_o be_v state_v thus_o or_o so_o whether_o such_o be_v certain_o the_o meaning_n of_o some_o particular_a place_n of_o scripture_n here_o i_o say_v where_o there_o be_v contradiction_n and_o doubt_n between_o party_n few_o there_o be_v who_o will_v offer_v to_o plead_v such_o assurance_n from_o the_o spirit_n as_o that_o they_o can_v be_v mistake_v but_o labour_v to_o inform_v themselves_o as_o well_o as_o other_o the_o best_a they_o can_v from_o other_o reason_n and_o indeed_o do_v the_o spirit_n thus_o always_o bear_v witness_n to_o itself_o have_v we_o any_o such_o internal_a assurance_n ordinary_o for_o extraordinary_a assurance_n of_o it_o happen_v to_o some_o great_a saint_n of_o god_n in_o very_a many_o thing_n i_o deny_v not_o i_o mean_v not_o of_o the_o belief_n of_o the_o thing_n but_o that_o such_o belief_n of_o the_o thing_n come_v from_o the_o spirit_n there_o need_v no_o more_o confirmation_n of_o any_o point_n either_o from_o church_n or_o universal_a tradition_n or_o collation_n of_o other_o scripture_n or_o any_o other_o way_n but_o this_o for_o thus_o though_o some_o man_n may_v profess_v a_o error_n against_o conscience_n yet_o err_v in_o very_a deed_n in_o matter_n of_o divine_a faith_n none_o can_v for_o know_v that_o the_o spirit_n operation_n be_v necessary_a to_o all_o true_a faith_n and_o know_v again_o when_o it_o operate_v he_o may_v be_v sure_a that_o that_o which_o it_o operate_v not_o be_v no_o true_a faith_n but_o this_o sufficient_o argue_v that_o there_o be_v no_o such_o ordinary_a effect_n thereof_o in_o that_o the_o pretender_n of_o the_o spirit_n so_o frequent_o by_o this_o spirit_n contradict_v one_o another_o and_o indeed_o this_o arrogant_a persuasion_n and_o ultimate_a refuge_n of_o singularity_n have_v be_v the_o great_a source_n of_o all_o heresy_n and_o schism_n by_o reason_n of_o man_n depart_v from_o tradition_n and_o from_o the_o church_n upon_o confidence_n of_o this_o therefore_o we_o conclude_v a_o man_n may_v believe_v by_o the_o efficiency_n of_o the_o spirit_n and_o yet_o not_o certain_o know_v its_o efficiency_n and_o may_v know_v that_o by_o it_o he_o believe_v all_o which_o he_o true_o believe_v in_o divine_a matter_n and_o yet_o not_o know_v that_o by_o it_o he_o believe_v such_o or_o such_o a_o particular_a thing_n so_o that_o though_o this_o be_v lay_v for_o a_o ground_n that_o all_o true_a faith_n be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n yet_o we_o must_v by_o scripture_n or_o in_o thing_n doubtful_a by_o the_o church_n traditionary_a exposition_n thereof_o first_o know_v our_o faith_n to_o be_v true_a and_o thence_o by_o consequence_n gather_v that_o it_o be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n not_o è_fw-la contra_fw-la argue_v 31._o in_o which_o former_a sense_n if_o it_o be_v only_o allow_v the_o church_n infallibility_n in_o guide_a christian_n will_v be_v confine_v only_o to_o two_o or_o three_o point_n and_o those_o scarce_o by_o any_o at_o all_o doubted-of_a or_o dispute_v in_o this_o latter_a sense_n therefore_o both_o because_o of_o our_o saviour_n promise_n and_o the_o evidence_n of_o tradition_n it_o must_v be_v say_v that_o the_o church_n can_v be_v mistake_v in_o defect_n but_o only_o if_o at_o all_o in_o the_o excess_n not_o in_o substract_v from_o christian_n any_o part_n of_o such_o necessary_a faith_n or_o duty_n but_o perhaps_o in_o superad_v thereto_o something_o as_o necessary_a which_o be_v not_o 2._o and_o here_o also_o second_o concern_v such_o excess_n i_o think_v you_o 5._o will_v grant_v i_o that_o it_o will_v be_v hard_a for_o a_o private_a man_n to_o judge_v that_o any_o particular_a point_n decide_v by_o the_o church_n be_v not_o some_o way_n or_o other_o necessary_a to_o be_v state_v know_v and_o believe_v by_o reason_n of_o some_o ill_a influence_n which_o the_o contradictory_n thereof_o may_v by_o some_o consequence_n at_o least_o have_v upon_o our_o other_o faith_n or_o manner_n necessary_o require_v and_o former_o establish_v nay_o far_o that_o it_o will_v be_v hard_a to_o say_v that_o any_o point_n decide_v &c_n &c_n be_v not_o necessary_a either_o direct_o and_o immediate_o or_o by_o connexion_n with_o some_o other_o point_n that_o be_v so_o to_o the_o actual_a exercise_n of_o christian_a religion_n and_o the_o practice_n of_o a_o complete_o holy_a those_o fundamental_o we_o can_v without_o hazard_v of_o our_o soul_n leave_v she_o in_o any_o point_n he_o answer_v by_o grant_v the_o consequence_n and_o deny_v the_o supposition_n i_o mean_v the_o to_o be_v fundamental_a that_o be_v not_o because_o this_o latter_a thing_n be_v suppose_v as_o necessary_a as_o the_o former_a i._n e._n god_n will_v never_o permit_v they_o to_o say_v they_o do_v not_o or_o can_v err_v in_o any_o point_n wherein_o they_o may_v err_v 4._o but_o four_a after_o all_o this_o it_o seem_v to_o i_o not_o to_o follow_v necessary_o proposal_n that_o if_o our_o saviour_n by_o his_o spirit_n preserve_v the_o church_n a_o infallible_a guide_n in_o necessary_a point_n of_o faith_n 1._o therefore_o she_o must_v be_v infallible_a in_o distinguish_v they_o from_o all_o other_o point_n which_o perhaps_o be_v not_o the_o same_o if_o we_o speak_v of_o those_o whereof_o man_n be_v to_o have_v a_o explicit_a knowledge_n to_o all_o person_n and_o from_o whence_o
