power_n and_o capacity_n we_o must_v also_o allow_v that_o in_o respect_n of_o this_o principle_n of_o life_n as_o well_o as_o of_o the_o soil_n there_o be_v a_o vast_a difference_n between_o tree_n the_o heat_n of_o the_o sun_n be_v equal_a in_o itself_o do_v equal_o heat_v a_o piece_n of_o ground_n equal_o good_a in_o itself_o and_o equal_o expose_v to_o its_o ray_n as_o it_o do_v also_o all_o the_o tree_n that_o be_v plant_v in_o it_o and_o yet_o though_o they_o seem_v all_o in_o good_a condition_n when_o they_o be_v set_v some_o of_o they_o produce_v root_n in_o abundance_n and_o other_o none_o at_o all_o but_o languish_v and_o die_v which_o failure_n must_v ordinary_o be_v ascribe_v to_o the_o tree_n themselves_o and_o not_o to_o the_o ground_n which_o we_o suppose_v equal_o well_o qualify_v nor_o to_o the_o sun_n which_o also_o act_v equal_o upon_o both_o it_o and_o them_o the_o plant_v tree_n therefore_o do_v chief_o act_n by_o their_o principle_n of_o life_n since_o it_o be_v that_o which_o be_v animate_v by_o the_o heat_n make_v the_o old_a root_n send_v forth_o young_a one_o to_o the_o act_n whereof_o the_o tree_n be_v oblige_v for_o that_o constant_a supply_n of_o that_o food_n in_o the_o stomach_n be_v to_o animal_n it_o may_v be_v requisite_a to_o observe_v that_o as_o the_o earth_n serve_v to_o produce_v and_o nourish_v vegetable_n as_o have_v in_o it_o a_o virtue_n or_o principle_n of_o fertility_n necessary_a for_o such_o performance_n so_o it_o be_v also_o certain_a that_o of_o itself_o and_o unless_o it_o be_v due_o moisten_v it_o can_v perform_v those_o office_n just_o as_o sené_fw-fr which_o be_v of_o a_o purge_v nature_n do_v not_o operate_v of_o itself_o but_o by_o mean_n of_o a_o proportionate_a quantity_n of_o water_n or_o some_o other_o liquid_a wherein_o it_o be_v infuse_v and_o to_o which_o by_o that_o infusion_n it_o communicate_v its_o virtue_n but_o as_o this_o purge_v quality_n become_v altogether_o ineffectual_a if_o the_o proportion_n of_o water_n be_v too_o great_a for_o the_o quantity_n of_o the_o sené_fw-fr so_o also_o the_o earth_n become_v unfruitful_a and_o rot_v fruit-tree_n as_o well_o as_o most_o other_o plant_n if_o it_o happen_v to_o be_v drench_v or_o cover_v with_o water_n it_o require_v some_o but_o not_o too_o much_o moisture_n and_o too_o much_o wet_a be_v altogether_o as_o prejudicial_a as_o too_o much_o drought_n now_o wheresoever_o the_o earth_n be_v too_o dry_a it_o be_v necessary_o barren_a and_o therefore_o all_o the_o ground_n we_o common_o call_v good_a be_v attend_v with_o all_o sort_n of_o moisture_n which_o indeed_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o real_a water_n diffuse_v through_o every_o part_n of_o the_o ground_n and_o this_o water_n come_v for_o the_o most_o part_n either_o from_o rain_n or_o snow_n or_o river_n or_o spring_n and_o sometime_o by_o artificial_a conveyance_n which_o water_n have_v by_o its_o weight_n sink_v into_o and_o diffuse_v itself_o through_o all_o part_n of_o the_o earth_n it_o become_v as_o philosopher_n speak_v impregnate_v with_o the_o nitre_n or_o fertile_a salt_n of_o that_o earth_n or_o to_o use_v the_o gard'ners_n term_n it_o become_v so_o far_o season_v with_o the_o quality_n of_o that_o earth_n as_o to_o assume_v its_o taste_n whatsoever_o it_o be_v which_o it_o communicate_v to_o those_o plant_n it_o nourish_v the_o truth_n of_o which_o observation_n be_v sufficient_o evince_v from_o experience_n in_o wine_n and_o several_a sort_n of_o fruit_n which_o receive_v different_a taste_n from_o the_o different_a soil_n they_o grow_v
