to_o god_n as_o the_o chief_a good_a from_o a_o inward_a change_n of_o nature_n renew_v after_o the_o image_n of_o god_n i_o shall_v now_o show_v you_o 1._o that_o such_o a_o repentance_n can_v sinner_n upon_o his_o repentance_n the_o gospel_n can_v but_o the_o law_n can_v can_v a_o man_n under_o the_o law_n repent_v suppose_v that_o what_o will_v he_o get_v by_o it_o he_o must_v to_o hell_n after_o all_o the_o law_n as_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n do_v not_o seek_v to_o bring_v a_o sinner_n to_o repentance_n but_o to_o punishment_n the_o law_n can_v give_v repentance_n unto_o life_n because_o it_o can_v give_v life_n upon_o our_o repentance_n you_o will_v say_v then_o be_v the_o law_n against_o repentance_n i_o do_v say_v so_o neither_o for_o take_v repentance_n as_o it_o be_v a_o just_a equitable_a thing_n as_o a_o holy_a disposition_n of_o mind_n so_o the_o law_n be_v not_o against_o it_o where_o ever_o it_o may_v be_v find_v as_o it_o be_v not_o against_o any_o other_o act_n of_o moral_a righteousness_n as_o such_o that_o a_o man_n may_v do_v and_o yet_o for_o all_o this_o it_o will_v condemn_v a_o man_n for_o his_o sin_n and_o all_o his_o righteousness_n shall_v not_o be_v remember_v though_o the_o law_n be_v not_o against_o repentance_n yet_o it_o will_v not_o accept_v of_o repentance_n as_o a_o satisfaction_n for_o past_a sin_n but_o the_o gospel_n provide_v full_a satisfaction_n for_o the_o law_n and_o promise_n sufficient_a and_o effectual_a grace_n to_o the_o sinner_n to_o bring_v he_o to_o repentance_n have_v rescue_v he_o from_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n enable_v he_o to_o walk_v worthy_a of_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o gospel_n if_o those_o who_o be_v justify_v be_v not_o sanctify_v they_o will_v live_v to_o the_o scandal_n of_o the_o gospel_n the_o law_n can_v contradict_v itself_o have_v already_o pronounce_v a_o peremptory_a sentence_n of_o death_n upon_o the_o sinner_n it_o be_v impossible_a the_o law_n shall_v ever_o gier_n repentance_n unto_o life_n the_o law_n insist_o upon_o the_o execution_n of_o its_o own_o judgement_n and_o will_v not_o be_v satisfy_v till_o that_o be_v do_v in_o this_o the_o gospel_n upon_o the_o cross_n 3._o this_o evangelical_n repentance_n imply_v real_a sanctification_n but_o the_o law_n sanctify_v no_o man_n because_o it_o can_v convey_v its_o own_o holiness_n to_o another_o can_v alter_v the_o nature_n of_o a_o man_n but_o only_o show_v he_o what_o mischief_n his_o sin_n have_v do_v he_o show_v he_o his_o sin_n in_o this_o or_o that_o instance_n to_o his_o great_a terror_n but_o if_o he_o happen_v to_o outlive_v those_o terror_n and_o not_o die_v in_o the_o fit_a as_o judas_n his_o evil_a heart_n will_v incline_v he_o as_o strong_o to_o sin_n as_o ever_o it_o do_v before_o his_o former_a conviction_n they_o make_v he_o give_v a_o present_a start_n backward_o but_o he_o will_v quick_o recover_v himself_o and_o return_v to_o his_o wretched_a course_n he_o can_v cease_v from_o sin_n though_o he_o
