christ_n purchase_v grace_n for_o we_o if_o he_o be_v manifest_a to_o take_v away_o sin_n if_o christ_n be_v the_o author_n and_o finisher_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o soul_n if_o the_o life_n of_o grace_n tend_v so_o much_o to_o the_o honour_n of_o christ_n if_o christ_n work_n now_o in_o heaven_n be_v to_o intercede_v for_o the_o continuation_n of_o grace_n in_o we_o that_o it_o may_v never_o fail_v in_o the_o seed_n or_o habit_n of_o it_o then_o no_o true_a believer_n can_v fall_v so_o from_o grace_n as_o eternal_o to_o perish_v but_o all_o this_o be_v true_a therefore_o no_o believer_n can_v so_o fall_v from_o grace_n as_o eternal_o to_o perish_v application_n first_o of_o information_n 1._o first_o from_o the_o whole_a we_o may_v learn_v that_o the_o state_n of_o believer_n through_o the_o redemption_n by_o jesus_n christ_n be_v far_o better_a than_o adam_n be_v by_o creation_n for_o though_o we_o have_v no_o natural_a and_o inherent_a power_n of_o our_o own_o yet_o we_o have_v a_o supernatural_a power_n engage_v to_o help_v and_o uphold_v we_o we_o be_v keep_v by_o the_o power_n of_o god_n he_o stand_v by_o the_o strength_n of_o nature_n and_o power_n of_o freewill_n before_o the_o fall_n we_o by_o the_o strength_n of_o grace_n and_o power_n of_o the_o mediator_n who_o have_v a_o charge_n to_o uphold_v we_o in_o a_o state_n of_o grace_n which_o be_v not_o allow_v to_o adam_n nor_o the_o angel_n we_o have_v not_o only_o the_o word_n of_o grace_n to_o encourage_v we_o but_o also_o the_o power_n of_o grace_n to_o establish_v we_o adam_n stand_v by_o his_o own_o original_a righteousness_n our_o stand_n be_v by_o the_o suretyship_n righteousness_n and_o undertake_n of_o jesus_n christ_n who_o of_o god_n be_v make_v unto_o we_o wisdom_n righteousness_n or_o deprive_v we_o of_o it_o and_o as_o adam_n and_o all_o his_o be_v condemn_v so_o christ_n and_o all_o his_o be_v justify_v 2._o it_o may_v inform_v we_o that_o such_o who_o make_v a_o profession_n of_o religion_n without_o attain_v to_o a_o state_n of_o true_a grace_n and_o real_a union_n with_o christ_n be_v in_o danger_n of_o eternal_a ruin_n notwithstanding_o whatsoever_o their_o knowledge_n gift_n and_o common_a improvement_n may_v be_v and_o their_o hope_n thereupon_o and_o that_o they_o be_v of_o this_o sort_n that_o frequent_o fall_v away_o and_o perish_v in_o their_o sin_n which_o if_o well_o weigh_v may_v put_v every_o professor_n into_o serious_a thought_n and_o upon_o a_o thorough_a work_n of_o self-examination_n about_o their_o present_a condition_n and_o therefore_o in_o this_o respect_n there_o be_v need_n enough_o of_o those_o caution_n and_o take-heed_n in_o the_o scripture_n let_v he_o that_o think_v he_o stand_v take_v heed_n lest_o he_o fall_v how_o many_o be_v there_o who_o do_v but_o think_v they_o stand_v or_o that_o their_o state_n be_v safe_a and_o good_a when_o in_o truth_n they_o be_v in_o no_o better_a condition_n than_o the_o foolish_a virgin_n or_o the_o thorny_a and_o stony-ground_n professor_n 13._o 3._o it_o also_o may_v inform_v we_o that_o all_o those_o that_o shall_v be_v save_v be_v such_o who_o take_v care_n to_o make_v their_o call_v and_o election_n sure_a it_o be_v a_o palpable_a demonstration_n that_o they_o be_v under_o strong_a delusion_n who_o suppose_v election_n only_o refer_v to_o the_o end_n be_v holy_a as_o well_o as_o to_o be_v happy_a the_o whole_a design_n of_o god_n herein_o be_v to_o make_v we_o holy_a and_o also_o to_o preserve_v we_o in_o a_o way_n and_o state_n of_o holiness_n therefore_o if_o thou_o do_v begin_v well_o have_v obtain_v true_a grace_n and_o do_v continue_v in_o a_o way_n of_o well-doing_n or_o do_v bring_v forth_o good_a fruit_n and_o do_v not_o waver_v nor_o faint_v in_o thy_o mind_n it_o may_v be_v a_o evidence_n that_o thy_o state_n be_v good_a and_o that_o thou_o be_v one_o of_o christ_n sheep_n who_o follow_v he_o constant_o and_o will_v so_o follow_v he_o unto_o the_o end_n second_o this_o may_v be_v matter_n of_o great_a comfort_n to_o weak_a believer_n and_o such_o who_o may_v be_v under_o spiritual_a deadness_n and_o feel_v his_o fear_n torment_v he_o but_o here_o by_o virtue_n of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o final_a perseverance_n be_v comfort_n both_o for_o the_o weak_a and_o strong_a both_o have_v equal_a interest_n in_o christ_n in_o god_n love_n in_o the_o covenant_n both_o be_v elect_v both_o be_v in_o christ_n hand_n such_o who_o have_v now_o a_o strong_a faith_n have_v once_o but_o a_o weak_a faith_n it_o be_v well_o as_o ignoble_a rich_a as_o well_o as_o poor_a gentile_n as_o well_o as_o jew_n or_o some_o of_o all_o sort_n the_o gospel_n be_v say_v to_o be_v preach_v in_o paul_n time_n to_o every_o creature_n under_o heaven_n 23._o whereas_o it_o reach_v then_o but_o to_o a_o small_a part_n of_o the_o world_n one_o great_a part_n not_o be_v at_o that_o time_n know_v or_o find_v out_o as_o one_o well_o observe_v 2._o be_v the_o birth_n of_o christ_n matter_n of_o joy_n in_o the_o effect_n of_o it_o to_o judas_n and_o to_o the_o unbelieve_a jew_n and_o to_o many_o more_o 3._o i_o argue_v thus_o if_o the_o birth_n and_o death_n of_o christ_n be_v cause_n of_o great_a joy_n to_o all_o person_n individual_o consider_v it_o must_v be_v thus_o either_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o design_n purpose_n and_o intention_n of_o god_n because_o of_o such_o joy_n unto_o they_o or_o else_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o certain_a effect_n of_o his_o birth_n and_o death_n but_o 1._o who_o will_v say_v that_o god_n according_a to_o his_o eternal_a purpose_n and_o design_n do_v intend_v it_o for_o the_o salvation_n of_o every_o individual_a person_n none_o can_v be_v so_o weak_a sure_o to_o assert_v objection_n we_o have_v large_o answer_v under_o our_o first_o argument_n to_o prove_v the_o saint_n final_a perseverance_n take_v from_o the_o treatise_n election_n of_o grace_n to_o which_o i_o refer_v you_o object_n 3._o this_o doctrine_n of_o election_n and_o final_a perseverance_n tend_v to_o make_v man_n loose_a and_o remiss_a in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n answ_n 1._o what_o can_v be_v a_o great_a mistake_n do_v the_o certain_a sin_n ground_n of_o hope_n of_o obtain_v the_o victory_n tend_v to_o make_v a_o soldier_n remiss_a and_o careless_a when_o engage_v in_o the_o battle_n or_o do_v they_o not_o much_o more_o animate_v he_o to_o fight_v courageous_o 2._o shall_v a_o child_n be_v take_v off_o from_o his_o duty_n or_o be_v remiss_a in_o serve_v his_o father_n because_o his_o father_n tell_v he_o he_o shall_v never_o be_v disinherit_v 3._o do_v not_o christ_n know_v that_o the_o angel_n have_v charge_n over_o he_o yet_o be_v he_o less_o careful_a of_o his_o own_o preservation_n and_o do_v not_o paul_n assure_v all_o that_o be_v in_o the_o ship_n with_o he_o that_o they_o shall_v all_o be_v save_v yet_o do_v that_o take_v he_o
deceitfulness_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n it_o be_v slight_v out_o of_o a_o opinion_n or_o persuasion_n that_o all_o be_v well_o with_o they_o they_o believe_v in_o christ_n hope_v in_o god_n mercy_n christ_n say_v they_o die_v for_o sinner_n and_o thus_o the_o devil_n and_o their_o own_o deceive_a heart_n cause_v they_o to_o neglect_v seek_v out_o after_o the_o save_a knowledge_n of_o christ_n and_o salvation_n by_o he_o on_o gospel-term_n for_o sin_n predominate_v in_o they_o reign_v in_o they_o notwithstanding_o all_o their_o hope_n and_o confidence_n what_o signify_v such_o faith_n that_o do_v not_o purify_v the_o heart_n and_o life_n or_o such_o hope_n alas_o it_o will_v be_v but_o like_o the_o spider_n web_n vain_a thought_n rest_v in_o those_o and_o destroy_v they_o vain_a in_o their_o rise_n vain_a as_o to_o the_o ground_n they_o build_v their_o hope_n upon_o a_o vain_a bottom_n vain_a as_o to_o the_o motive_n and_o vain_a as_o to_o the_o fruit_n or_o product_n thereof_o they_o think_v they_o have_v hold_v of_o salvation_n yet_o be_v drop_v into_o hell_n 6._o some_o neglect_n the_o salvation_n of_o the_o gospel_n partly_o out_o of_o servile_a and_o slavish_a fear_n and_o partly_o out_o of_o pretend_a modesty_n they_o dare_v not_o be_v so_o bold_a to_o take_v hold_n of_o christ_n or_o venture_v their_o soul_n on_o christ_n because_o they_o be_v so_o vile_a filthy_a and_o abominable_a unless_o they_o have_v something_o to_o bring_v something_o to_o present_v to_o christ_n to_o render_v they_o acceptable_a or_o welcome_a to_o he_o they_o will_v not_o come_v they_o pretend_v they_o dare_v not_o come_v they_o can_v think_v so_o great_a salvation_n shall_v be_v bestow_v free_o on_o such_o as_o they_o be_v if_o they_o can_v be_v rid_v of_o their_o sin_n or_o wash_v themselves_o from_o their_o sin_n than_o they_o will_v come_v or_o can_v they_o get_v themselves_o some_o new_a clothes_n make_v themselves_o a_o new_a heart_n or_o get_v some_o inherent_a righteousness_n of_o their_o own_o than_o they_o will_v come_v sad_a case_n but_o it_o be_v no_o wonder_n some_o be_v carry_v away_o with_o this_o delusion_n consider_v what_o a_o kind_n of_o doctrine_n be_v preach_v in_o these_o perilous_a time_n but_o sinner_n know_v thou_o must_v come_v to_o christ_n to_o be_v wash_v come_v as_o one_o that_o see_v what_o need_n thou_o have_v to_o be_v put_v into_o the_o fountain_n which_o be_v set_v open_a for_o sin_n and_o uncleanness_n and_o come_v as_o one_o naked_a that_o christ_n may_v clothe_v thou_o christ_n call_v sinner_n to_o he_o may_v be_v you_o will_v say_v what_o be_v it_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n why_o to_o believe_v in_o he_o to_o lay_v hold_n by_o faith_n upon_o he_o and_o if_o thou_o do_v thus_o though_o thou_o be_v never_o so_o great_a a_o sinner_n thou_o shall_v be_v save_v 7._o other_o neglect_v gospel-salvation_n out_o of_o idleness_n and_o curse_a sloth_n it_o be_v a_o hard_a thing_n to_o enter_v in_o at_o the_o strait_a gate_n self-denial_n 14._o be_v of_o absolute_a necessity_n o_o but_o this_o be_v too_o difficult_a for_o this_o sort_n they_o can_v pray_v read_v meditate_v they_o do_v love_v to_o hear_v sermon_n they_o do_v not_o care_v to_o put_v themselves_o upon_o spiritual_a duty_n as_o to_o seek_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n nay_o and_o to_o take_v it_o by_o violence_n they_o can_v take_v pain_n to_o damn_v their_o own_o soul_n but_o can_v will_v not_o take_v that_o pain_n they_o be_v enable_v to_o do_v to_o save_v their_o soul_n sir_n man_n will_v not_o be_v condemn_v for_o not_o do_v that_o which_o they_o have_v not_o power_n to_o do_v but_o for_o neglect_v that_o which_o they_o may_v have_v do_v their_o destruction_n be_v of_o themselves_o though_o their_o salvation_n be_v whole_o of_o god_n and_o of_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n have_v not_o man_n power_n to_o leave_v all_o gross_a act_n of_o wickedness_n and_o to_o attend_v upon_o the_o mean_n of_o salvation_n they_o who_o say_v we_o put_v the_o creature_n to_o do_v nothing_o false_o charge_v we_o we_o press_v man_n to_o leave_v their_o wicked_a practice_n upon_o a_o right_a foot_n lord_n and_o they_o be_v great_a in_o their_o own_o conceit_n though_o their_o cloak_n perhaps_o be_v nothing_o but_o patch_n they_o scorn_v to_o beg_v or_o to_o dig_v no_o they_o will_v soon_o steal_v and_o stand_v on_o the_o highway_n proud_a man_n do_v thus_o in_o a_o spiritual_a sense_n he_o will_v not_o beg_v he_o will_v not_o go_v to_o christ_n door_n for_o bread_n he_o will_v rather_o steal_v and_o rob_v christ_n of_o his_o honour_n in_o their_o salvation_n by_o seek_v it_o some_o other_o way_n even_o in_o a_o unlawful_a way_n this_o be_v no_o better_a than_o a_o spiritual_a rob_v jesus_n christ_n of_o have_v the_o whole_a glory_n and_o honour_n of_o the_o salvation_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o yet_o they_o do_v not_o enrich_v themselves_o hereby_o neither_o it_o be_v but_o only_o in_o conceit_n they_o fancy_v themselves_o rich_a and_o trust_v in_o their_o own_o righteousness_n as_o if_o it_o be_v choice_a treasure_n when_o it_o be_v nothing_o but_o filthy_a rag_n which_o they_o pride_n themselves_o in_o and_o boast_v of_o 11._o it_o be_v through_o unbelief_n this_o salvation_n be_v neglect_v man_n believe_v not_o the_o grand_a neglect_v centre_n here_o this_o be_v thy_o way_n yet_o say_v thou_o not_o there_o be_v no_o hope_n thou_o go_v on_o in_o thy_o unjust_a and_o sinful_a way_n till_o thou_o have_v even_o weary_v thyself_o as_o if_o the_o lord_n shall_v serious_o upon_o be_v our_o salvation_n so_o great_a that_o he_o part_v with_o his_o life_n to_o procure_v it_o and_o be_v it_o not_o worth_a your_o part_n with_o your_o sin_n to_o have_v a_o interest_n in_o it_o what_o be_v the_o voice_n of_o the_o heart_n and_o way_n of_o such_o sinner_n do_v not_o they_o reproach_v the_o son_n of_o god_n after_o this_o manner_n why_o be_v thou_o so_o unwise_a to_o shed_v thy_o blood_n to_o purchase_v salvation_n for_o we_o we_o do_v not_o value_v it_o above_o the_o pleasure_n of_o the_o world_n we_o esteem_v our_o carnal_a delight_n and_o earthly_a profit_n more_o than_o that_o salvation_n which_o thou_o have_v wrought_v 2._o nay_o they_o slight_a the_o person_n of_o christ_n who_o say_v behold_v i_o behold_v i_o look_v unto_o i_o
