those_o by_o who_o at_o present_a they_o be_v so_o extol_v and_o commend_v unto_o we_o do_v themselves_o discourse_n at_o random_n as_o blind_a man_n talk_v of_o colour_n for_o they_o pretend_v not_o to_o have_v any_o experience_n of_o these_o thing_n themselves_o and_o it_o be_v somewhat_o a_o uncouth_a way_n of_o procedure_v to_o enhance_v the_o value_n of_o the_o communion_n of_o their_o church_n and_o to_o invite_v other_o unto_o it_o by_o declare_v that_o there_o be_v some_o among_o they_o who_o enjoy_v such_o spiritual_a ecstasy_n as_o can_v neither_o by_o themselves_o nor_o any_o other_o be_v understand_v for_o nothing_o can_v be_v so_o wherein_o or_o whereabout_o there_o be_v no_o exercise_n of_o reason_n or_o understanding_n wherefore_o the_o old_a question_n cui_fw-la bono_fw-mi will_v discharge_v this_o pretence_n from_o be_v of_o any_o value_n or_o esteem_v in_o religion_n with_o considerate_a man_n again_o as_o the_o whole_a of_o this_o kind_n of_o prayer_n be_v useless_a as_o to_o the_o benefit_n and_o edification_n of_o the_o church_n or_o any_o member_n of_o it_o so_o it_o be_v impossible_a there_o shall_v ever_o be_v any_o certainty_n about_o the_o rapture_n wherein_o it_o be_v pretend_v to_o consist_v but_o they_o must_v everlasting_o be_v the_o subject_n of_o contention_n and_o dispute_n for_o who_o shall_v assure_v i_o that_o the_o person_n pretend_v unto_o these_o duty_n or_o enjoyment_n be_v not_o mere_a pretender_n any_o man_n that_o live_v if_o he_o have_v a_o mind_n unto_o it_o may_v say_v such_o thing_n or_o use_v such_o of_o no_o more_o than_o all_o acknowledge_v it_o their_o duty_n to_o endeavour_v after_o but_o when_o any_o one_o shall_v pretend_v unto_o spiritual_a act_n or_o enjoyment_n which_o be_v neither_o prescribe_v nor_o promise_v in_o the_o scripture_n nor_o be_v investigable_a in_o the_o light_n of_o reason_n no_o man_n be_v upon_o this_o mere_a profession_n oblige_v to_o give_v credit_n thereunto_o nor_o can_v any_o man_n tell_v what_o evil_a effect_n or_o consequence_n his_o so_o do_v may_v produce_v for_o when_o man_n be_v once_o take_v off_o from_o that_o sure_a ground_n of_o scripture_n and_o their_o own_o understanding_n put_v themselves_o afloat_o on_o the_o uncertain_a water_n of_o fancy_n or_o conjecture_n they_o know_v not_o how_o they_o may_v be_v toss_v nor_o whither_o they_o may_v be_v drive_v if_o it_o shall_v be_v say_v that_o the_o holiness_n and_o honesty_n of_o the_o person_n by_o whem_n these_o especial_a privilege_n be_v enjoy_v be_v sufficient_a reason_n why_o we_o shall_v believe_v they_o in_o what_o they_o profess_v i_o answer_v they_o will_v so_o in_o a_o good_a measure_n if_o they_o do_v not_o pretend_v unto_o thing_n repugnant_a unto_o reason_n and_o unwarrant_v by_o the_o scripture_n which_o be_v sufficient_a to_o crush_v the_o reputation_n of_o any_o man_n integrity_n nor_o can_v their_o holiness_n and_o honesty_n be_v prove_v to_o be_v such_o as_o to_o render_v they_o absolute_o impregnable_a against_o all_o temptation_n which_o be_v the_o preeminence_n of_o christ_n alone_o neither_o be_v there_o any_o more_o strength_n in_o this_o plea_n but_o what_o may_v be_v reduce_v unto_o this_o assertion_n that_o there_o neither_o be_v nor_o ever_o be_v any_o hypocrite_n in_o the_o world_n undiscoverable_a unto_o the_o eye_n of_o man_n for_o if_o such_o there_o may_v be_v some_o of_o these_o pretender_n may_v be_v of_o their_o number_n notwithstanding_o the_o appearance_n of_o their_o holiness_n and_o honesty_n beside_o if_o the_o holiness_n of_o the_o best_a of_o they_o be_v examine_v by_o evangelical_n light_n and_o rule_n perhaps_o it_o will_v be_v so_o far_o from_o be_v a_o sufficient_a countenance_n unto_o other_o thing_n as_o that_o it_o will_v not_o be_v able_a to_o defend_v its_o own_o reputation_n neither_o be_v it_o want_v of_o charity_n which_o make_v man_n doubtful_a and_o unbelieving_a in_o such_o case_n but_o that_o godly_a jealousy_n and_o christian_a prudence_n which_o require_v they_o to_o take_v care_n that_o they_o be_v not_o deceive_v or_o delude_v do_v not_o only_o warrant_v they_o to_o abide_v on_o that_o guard_n but_o make_v it_o their_o necessary_a duty_n also_o for_o it_o be_v no_o new_a thing_n that_o pretence_n of_o rapture_n ecstasy_n revelation_n and_o unaccountable_a extraordinary_a enjoyment_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v make_v use_n of_o unto_o corrupt_a end_n
