majesty_n their_o honour_n and_o the_o bishop_n may_v be_v assure_v hereof_o or_o will_v they_o promise_v this_o on_o the_o word_n of_o a_o faithful_a minister_n that_o they_o will_v exercise_v their_o ministry_n no_o otherwise_o but_o why_o then_o do_v they_o it_o not_o for_o there_o be_v no_o other_o thing_n require_v of_o they_o and_o it_o be_v their_o duty_n so_o to_o do_v it_o but_o what_o especial_a regard_n of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o church_n &_o public_a order_n if_o they_o have_v liberty_n to_o exercise_v their_o ministry_n according_a to_o their_o conscience_n be_v it_o likely_a that_o our_o brethren_n will_v have_v when_o as_o they_o be_v restrain_v only_o for_o the_o abuse_n hereof_o &_o be_v restrain_v do_v thus_o disturb_v the_o peace_n of_o the_o church_n &_o the_o public_a order_n of_o the_o same_o yea_o all_o their_o especial_a regard_n and_o drift_n be_v against_o the_o public_a order_n and_o if_o now_o they_o shall_v thus_o be_v with_o favour_n allow_v to_o exercise_v their_o ministry_n according_a to_o their_o conscience_n what_o will_v our_o brethren_n then_o spare_v to_o do_v against_o these_o public_a order_n i_o marvel_v therefore_o how_o build_v well_o upon_o they_o house_n be_v very_o good_a principle_n or_o rather_o proposition_n as_o they_o term_v they_o of_o this_o first_o be_v say_v enough_o already_o concern_v david_n compare_v himself_o to_o the_o stone_n in_o the_o corner_n of_o this_o mystical_a house_n build_v and_o most_o glad_o we_o admit_v this_o our_o brethren_n testimony_n for_o the_o same_o as_o the_o very_a word_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n utter_v by_o paul_n and_o that_o this_o house_n of_o god_n which_o be_v the_o church_n of_o the_o live_a god_n be_v the_o pillar_n and_o ground_n of_o truth_n because_o it_o always_o uphold_v and_o maintain_v the_o truth_n both_o in_o this_o matter_n of_o eccl_n government_n and_o in_o all_o other_o so_o far_o as_o be_v necessary_a to_o salvation_n albeit_o christ_n in_o principal_a proper_o and_o absolute_o be_v the_o only_a ground_n and_o foundation_n of_o this_o house_n 3.17_o and_o here_o by_o the_o way_n since_o by_o this_o testimony_n of_o s._n paul_n truth_n the_o church_n which_o be_v the_o house_n of_o god_n be_v thus_o the_o pillar_n and_o ground_n of_o the_o truth_n if_o this_o government_n that_o our_o brethren_n urge_v be_v so_o necessary_a and_o of_o so_o great_a moment_n to_o the_o house_n or_o church_n of_o god_n then_o be_v it_o likely_a the_o the_o church_n of_o god_n though_o it_o have_v not_o always_o and_o in_o all_o place_n yet_o for_o the_o most_o part_n of_o time_n &_o place_n or_o at_o leastwise_o in_o some_o age_n and_o place_n have_v this_o government_n maintain_v &_o keep_v it_o or_o strive_v for_o it_o or_o else_o belike_o it_o be_v not_o think_v so_o necessary_a order_n the_o second_o principle_n they_o say_v follow_v necessary_o of_o the_o first_o and_o so_o it_o do_v which_o second_o be_v this_o and_o therefore_o this_o church_n
already_o write_v and_o by_o treatise_n late_o and_o now_o publish_v preface_n it_o may_v appear_v we_o seek_v that_o which_o at_o the_o least_o in_o the_o judgement_n of_o all_o true_a christian_n reconcilement_n have_v no_o small_a probability_n as_o we_o judge_v necessity_n of_o truth_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n it_o may_v please_v her_o most_o excellent_a majesty_n and_o their_o honour_n to_o appoint_v on_o both_o side_n the_o best_a learned_a most_o godly_a and_o moderate_a man_n to_o debate_v all_o difference_n of_o weight_n between_o they_o and_o us._n so_o that_o first_o upon_o sufficient_a consideration_n the_o question_n to_o be_v debate_v be_v without_o all_o ambiguity_n set_v down_o the_o reason_n of_o both_o side_n without_o all_o outgoing_n short_o and_o plain_o deliver_v in_o write_v each_o to_o other_o that_o after_o upon_o sufficient_a examination_n the_o reason_n of_o both_o be_v continual_o confirm_v and_o resolve_v till_o either_o by_o the_o evidence_n of_o truth_n one_o party_n yield_v unto_o the_o other_o or_o the_o folly_n and_o madness_n of_o those_o which_o gainsay_v it_o do_v in_o equal_a judgement_n become_v manifest_a in_o regard_n of_o the_o contradiction_n and_o absurdity_n whereto_o they_o shall_v be_v drive_v by_o the_o force_n of_o god_n word_n it_o may_v appear_v we_o grant_v that_o our_o brethren_n have_v both_o already_o writâ—en_a book_n &_o now_o late_o publish_v treatise_n but_o with_o what_o authority_n they_o can_v so_o do_v that_o be_v another_o question_n authority_n if_o it_o be_v lawful_a authority_n to_o do_v it_o both_o against_o law_n and_o authority_n we_o may_v short_o have_v other_o upon_o like_a ensample_n set_v out_o worse_a matter_n yea_o never_o so_o ill_a doctrine_n or_o matter_n never_o so_o much_o against_o the_o state_n for_o although_o they_o pretend_v their_o book_n and_o treatise_n to_o be_v never_o so_o good_a yet_o ought_v they_o not_o to_o be_v publish_v but_o by_o good_a mean_n also_o lest_o if_o the_o good_a mean_n be_v neglect_v ill_a thing_n in_o like_a manner_n may_v be_v publish_v but_o by_o what_o ill_a mean_n soever_o they_o set_v out_o their_o book_n and_o treatise_n yet_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o it_o may_v say_v they_o appear_v we_o seek_v that_o which_o at_o the_o least_o in_o the_o judgement_n of_o all_o true_a christian_n have_v no_o small_a probability_n as_o we_o judge_v necessity_n of_o truth_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n fancy_n may_v make_v a_o man_n bowlt_n bran_n and_o think_v it_o be_v flower_n and_o even_o so_o do_v our_o brethren_n imagine_v in_o this_o necessity_n but_o when_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o the_o examine_n of_o these_o book_n and_o treatise_n scripture_n yea_o even_o of_o this_o their_o learned_a discourse_n compile_v in_o the_o name_n of_o all_o the_o faithful_a minister_n and_o of_o all_o their_o desire_n and_o of_o all_o that_o they_o say_v they_o seek_v for_o we_o shall_v find_v necessity_n of_o truth_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n in_o no_o one_o thing_n of_o all_o their_o position_n in_o controversy_n except_o they_o understande_v it_o so_o out_o of_o the_o scripture_n that_o be_v to_o say_v clean_o without_o all_o scripture_n or_o any_o necessary_a consequence_n of_o scripture_n and_o although_o probability_n ought_v not_o to_o carry_v away_o the_o matter_n yet_o upon_o better_a survey_n thereof_o we_o shall_v find_v not_o so_o much_o as_o any_o good_a probability_n that_o be_v ground_v on_o the_o scripture_n but_o only_o on_o the_o mere_a interpretation_n and_o say_n of_o some_o the_o chief_a person_n in_o estimation_n on_o their_o side_n if_o at_o the_o least_o they_o agree_v with_o they_o and_o be_v not_o carry_v away_o by_o their_o own_o fancy_n as_o in_o the_o peruse_n of_o this_o learned_a discourse_n shall_v god_n will_v appear_v in_o the_o mean_a season_n see_v here_o how_o peremptory_a our_o brethren_n be_v in_o their_o own_o judgement_n that_o which_o they_o seek_v for_o be_v of_o no_o probability_n but_o as_o we_o judge_v necessity_n say_v they_o &_o yet_o they_o confess_v that_o in_o the_o judgement_n of_o all_o true_a christian_n it_o be_v but_o of_o probability_n though_o say_v they_o it_o have_v no_o small_a probability_n so_o that_o they_o grant_v at_o the_o least_o hereby_o that_o many_o if_o not_o all_o true_a christian_n judge_v that_o that_o which_o they_o seek_v for_o have_v no_o necessity_n of_o truth_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n but_o hold_v themselves_o content_v only_o with_o probability_n for_o be_v it_o small_a or_o not_o small_a it_o be_v but_o probability_n of_o truth_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n that_o they_o ground_n themselves_o upon_o &_o yet_o think_v this_o hinder_v not_o but_o that_o they_o still_o be_v all_o true_a christian_n so_o that_o â—hey_n count_v they_o no_o true_a christian_n scripture_n in_o who_o judgement_n the_o thing_n that_o our_o brethren_n seek_v for_o have_v not_o at_o the_o least_o great_a probability_n of_o truth_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n but_o if_o they_o can_v allow_v they_o to_o be_v all_o true_a christian_n in_o who_o judgement_n these_o thing_n stand_v but_o on_o the_o uncertainty_n of_o probability_n i_o trust_v we_o shall_v not_o lose_v our_o christendom_n ever_o a_o whit_n the_o more_o â—or_a this_o but_o be_v true_a christian_n yea_o themselves_o have_v grant_v we_o even_o in_o â—his_n preface_n that_o we_o be_v their_o brethren_n and_o that_o we_o agree_v in_o the_o substance_n of_o religion_n with_o they_o and_o therefore_o of_o necessity_n if_o they_o be_v true_a christian_n we_o be_v true_a christian_n also_o and_o yet_o we_o open_o and_o constant_o enough_o that_o the_o most_o and_o great_a of_o the_o thing_n that_o they_o seek_v for_o have_v not_o at_o the_o least_o any_o probability_n of_o truth_n out_o of_o the_o scripture_n in_o our_o judgement_n yea_o in_o my_o judgement_n not_o one_o of_o they_o all_o any_o good_a probability_n but_o we_o all_o confess_v they_o have_v no_o necessity_n this_o therefore_o be_v too_o unaduised_o and_o too_o peremptory_o speak_v and_o upon_o too_o great_a a_o confidence_n in_o their_o cause_n as_o to_o hazard_v the_o truth_n of_o our_o christianity_n for_o not_o judge_v these_o thing_n to_o be_v at_o least_o probable_a but_o let_v the_o necessity_n or_o probability_n be_v try_v in_o the_o debate_n and_o weigh_v of_o they_o let_v we_o now_o see_v how_o they_o will_v have_v they_o debate_v and_o weigh_v it_o may_v please_v say_v they_o her_o most_o excellent_a majesty_n and_o their_o honour_n to_o appoint_v on_o both_o side_n the_o best_a learned_a preface_n most_o godly_a and_o moderate_a man_n to_o debate_v all_o difference_n of_o weight_n between_o they_o and_o us._n this_o be_v a_o good_a beginning_n that_o they_o will_v yield_v to_o her_o most_o excellent_a majesty_n and_o their_o honour_n bridges_n yet_o at_o the_o least_o thus_o much_o if_o they_o will_v stand_v to_o this_o majesty_n but_o when_o it_o shall_v come_v to_o the_o debate_n weigh_v or_o determine_v they_o give_v her_o majesty_n and_o their_o honour_n no_o authority_n at_o al._n yea_o they_o have_v themselves_o already_o debate_v weigh_v judge_v determine_v and_o prescribe_v these_o thing_n and_o that_o for_o necessity_n in_o their_o judgement_n before_o they_o come_v to_o this_o conference_n as_o shall_v also_o appear_v by_o these_o their_o learned_a discourse_n and_o be_v it_o likely_a they_o will_v yield_v and_o revoke_v this_o their_o principle_n set_v forth_o in_o print_n and_o diwlge_v to_o all_o the_o world_n by_o our_o reason_n afterward_o with_o they_o howesoever_o by_o reason_v we_o shall_v evict_v they_o have_v it_o not_o be_v better_o not_o to_o have_v vaunt_a thus_o before_o hand_n on_o such_o necessity_n and_o prescription_n but_o they_o say_v the_o best_a learned_a most_o godly_a and_o moderate_a man_n on_o both_o side_n shall_v be_v appoint_v to_o debate_v all_o difference_n of_o weight_n between_o they_o and_o us._n for_o their_o part_n they_o so_o glory_n both_o of_o their_o learning_n and_o godliness_n debater_n that_o they_o give_v this_o book_n two_o title_n in_o the_o one_o for_o godliness_n and_o moderatenesse_n a_o declaration_n of_o the_o desire_n of_o the_o faithful_a minister_n not_o have_v build_v thereon_o as_o good_a and_o skilful_a builder_n shall_v have_v do_v nor_o with_o such_o firm_a stuff_n and_o mettle_n as_o will_v abide_v the_o trial_n of_o the_o fire_n i_o refer_v it_o to_o the_o surueyer_n of_o the_o work_n and_o to_o all_o such_o as_o be_v expert_a in_o this_o kind_n of_o architecture_n to_o give_v their_o judgement_n both_o of_o the_o whole_a modill_n of_o this_o plotforme_n and_o of_o every_o parcel_n thereof_o and_o of_o all_o their_o stuff_n workmanship_n and_o manner_n of_o their_o build_n but_o our_o brother_n put_v we_o in_o better_a comfort_n that_o if_o all_o this_o learned_a discourse_n will_v not_o serve_v they_o be_v not_o mind_v to_o leave_v off_o so_o but_o intend_v out_o they_o more_o at_o large_a if_o occasion_n shall_v serve_v hereafter_o to_o set_v forth_o thing_n the_o practice_n and_o consent_n of_o the_o godly_a father_n in_o their_o act_n counsel_n and_o writing_n follow_v the_o same_o rule_n and_o interpretation_n of_o the_o scripture_n that_o we_o have_v do_v very_o neither_o this_o learned_a discourse_n nor_o any_o other_o of_o our_o brother_n as_o yet_o set_v forth_o no_o nor_o any_o thing_n in_o caluin_n beza_n or_o danaeus_n for_o i_o take_v it_o perform_v that_o our_o brother_n have_v most_o follow_v these_o three_o or_o any_o other_o treatise_n that_o be_v extant_a at_o least_o that_o i_o can_v ever_o see_v or_o read_v do_v nor_o can_v prove_v the_o form_n of_o reformation_n that_o our_o brother_n have_v here_o in_o this_o learned_a discourse_n prescribe_v so_o that_o they_o do_v well_o to_o be_v intend_v of_o some_o other_o piece_n of_o work_n for_o i_o see_v no_o other_o remedy_n to_o persuade_v we_o so_o thorough_o as_o they_o say_v they_o be_v but_o that_o we_o must_v intend_v also_o on_o their_o further_a intend_v when_o and_o whatsoever_o they_o shall_v more_o at_o large_a hereafter_o set_v forth_o as_o occasion_n shall_v serve_v which_o what_o occasion_n they_o intend_v it_o shall_v be_v i_o remit_v to_o god_n and_o if_o they_o shall_v true_o set_v forth_o this_o that_o here_o they_o solemn_o promise_v of_o the_o practice_n and_o consent_n of_o the_o godly_a father_n in_o their_o act_n counsel_n and_o writing_n i_o dare_v by_o prevention_n say_v thus_o much_o before_o hand_n let_v i_o prove_v it_o as_o i_o shall_v be_v able_a that_o they_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o prove_v that_o those_o godly_a father_n follow_v the_o same_o rule_n and_o interpretation_n of_o the_o scripture_n that_o our_o brother_n have_v follow_v promise_n in_o the_o form_n of_o this_o their_o learned_a discourse_n of_o ecclesiastical_a government_n or_o that_o herein_o either_o caluin_n or_o beza_n or_o danaeus_n and_o other_o our_o brother_n have_v so_o do_v not_o that_o i_o burden_n they_o as_o falsary_n who_o i_o honour_v as_o godly_a father_n also_o and_o dear_a brother_n with_o all_o due_a reverence_n but_o as_o mistaker_n of_o those_o ancient_a godly_a father_n as_o we_o have_v partly_o see_v already_o and_o shall_v see_v further_o by_o god_n grace_n when_o the_o performance_n of_o this_o promise_n shall_v come_v forth_o to_o examine_v thorough_o doctor_n how_o they_o interpret_v or_o practise_v the_o office_n of_o doctor_n not_o exhort_v nor_o apply_v the_o scripture_n to_o search_v more_o narrow_o how_o they_o interpret_v the_o rule_n and_o practise_v the_o office_n of_o bishop_n and_o pastor_n and_o whether_o one_o among_o the_o pastoral_n elder_n be_v not_o in_o dignity_n and_o jurisdiction_n a_o continue_v superior_a to_o who_o the_o residue_n yield_v a_o propriety_n of_o the_o name_n of_o bishop_n yea_o whether_o it_o be_v practise_v otherwise_o pastor_n among_o those_o godly_a father_n in_o any_o church_n in_o all_o christendom_n from_o the_o apostle_n time_n until_o constantine_n yea_o whether_o other_o of_o our_o brother_n themselves_o both_o caluin_n beza_n danaeus_n and_o diverse_a other_o do_v not_o confess_v as_o much_o in_o plain_a word_n and_o therefore_o if_o they_o shall_v hereafter_o when_o occasion_n shall_v serve_v they_o allege_v those_o godly_a father_n to_o the_o contrary_a that_o be_v to_o wit_n to_o prove_v have_v whether_o they_o be_v of_o such_o presbyter_n priest_n or_o elder_n as_o be_v ecclesiastical_a person_n they_o have_v not_o to_o meddle_v in_o public_a teach_n but_o be_v governor_n only_o and_o not_o how_o many_o of_o those_o godly_a father_n but_o whether_o any_o of_o they_o interpret_v those_o word_n of_o christ_n math._n 18._o 18._o tell_v the_o church_n as_o caluin_n and_o our_o brother_n do_v interpret_v they_o and_o further_o to_o consider_v the_o interpretation_n writing_n act_n and_o counsel_n of_o those_o godly_a father_n deacon_n for_o the_o use_n and_o practice_v of_o the_o deacon_n whether_o beside_o the_o collection_n and_o distribution_n for_o the_o poor_a they_o may_v not_o also_o be_v employ_v to_o the_o public_a teach_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n as_o occasion_v serve_v nor_o to_o the_o minister_a of_o the_o sacrament_n nor_o to_o the_o attendance_n in_o the_o divine_a service_n on_o the_o bishop_n and_o pastor_n who_o proper_a office_n consist_v therein_o if_o our_o brother_n shall_v prove_v all_o these_o thing_n to_o have_v be_v so_o use_v to_o have_v be_v so_o interpret_v and_o so_o practise_v in_o the_o practice_n and_o consent_n of_o the_o godly_a father_n in_o their_o act_n counsel_n and_o writing_n follow_v the_o same_o rule_n and_o interpretation_n of_o the_o scripture_n that_o our_o brother_n in_o the_o form_n of_o reformation_n prescribe_v in_o this_o learned_a discourse_n of_o ecclesiastical_a government_n have_v do_v when_o they_o shall_v have_v perform_v all_o this_o and_o shall_v as_o they_o intend_v more_o
