the_o enmity_n and_o disaffection_n of_o man_n heart_n towards_o god_n be_v the_o more_o deep_o root_v and_o less_o superable_a evil_n the_o belove_a apostle_n give_v we_o a_o plain_a and_o sad_a intimation_n how_o the_o case_n be_v as_o to_o this_o when_o he_o reason_n thus_o he_o that_o love_v not_o his_o brother_n who_o he_o have_v see_v how_o can_v he_o love_v god_n who_o he_o have_v not_o see_v he_o argue_v from_o the_o less_o to_o the_o great_a and_o this_o be_v the_o ground_n upon_o which_o his_o argument_n be_v build_v that_o the_o love_a of_o god_n be_v a_o matter_n of_o great_a be_v now_o consider_v there_o be_v certain_a homilitical_a virtue_n that_o much_o adorn_v and_o polish_v the_o nature_n of_o man_n urbanity_n fidelity_n justice_n patience_n of_o injury_n compassion_n towards_o the_o miserable_a etc._n etc._n and_o indeed_o without_o these_o the_o world_n will_v break_v up_o and_o all_o civil_a society_n disband_v if_o at_o least_o they_o do_v not_o in_o some_o degree_n obtain_v but_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n man_n be_v at_o the_o great_a distance_n imaginable_a from_o any_o disposition_n to_o society_n with_o god_n they_o have_v some_o love_n for_o one_o another_o but_o none_o for_o he_o and_o yet_o it_o must_v be_v remember_v that_o love_n to_o our_o neighbour_n and_o all_o the_o consequent_a exertion_n of_o it_o become_v duty_n by_o the_o divine_a law_n aught_o to_o be_v perform_v as_o act_n of_o obedience_n to_o god_n and_o therefore_o aught_o to_o grow_v from_o the_o stock_n and_o root_n of_o a_o divine_a love_n i_o mean_v love_n to_o god_n they_o be_v otherwise_o but_o spurious_a virtue_n bastard_n fruit_n man_n gather_v not_o grape_n of_o thorn_n etc._n etc._n they_o grow_v from_o a_o tree_n of_o another_o kind_n and_o what_o ever_o semblance_n they_o may_v have_v of_o the_o true_a they_o want_v their_o constituent_a form_n their_o life_n and_o soul._n 14._o though_o love_n to_o the_o brethren_n be_v make_v a_o character_n of_o the_o regenerate_a state_n of_o have_v pass_v from_o death_n to_o life_n it_o be_v yet_o but_o a_o more_o remote_a and_o be_v itself_o bring_v to_o trial_n by_o this_o high_a and_o more_o immediate_a
