punishment_n can_v be_v imagine_v then_o to_o be_v divorce_v from_o god_n to_o be_v exclude_v from_o his_o grace_n protection_n and_o preservation_n all_o which_o idolater_n incur_v through_o their_o spiritual_a whoredom_n the_o consideration_n whereof_o shall_v make_v we_o to_o flee_v this_o sin_n that_o so_o we_o may_v escape_v the_o punishment_n the_o last_o thing_n which_o we_o be_v to_o before_o he_o have_v show_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v divorce_v they_o and_o consequent_o that_o they_o have_v commit_v adultery_n and_o play_v the_o harlot_n for_o in_o other_o case_n divorce_n be_v not_o by_o god_n approve_v and_o now_o he_o intimate_v that_o they_o have_v the_o condition_n and_o quality_n of_o a_o harlot_n for_o as_o harlot_n in_o continuance_n of_o time_n grow_v past_a shame_n so_o that_o they_o do_v not_o only_o in_o secret_a commit_v adultery_n but_o public_o make_v profession_n of_o it_o as_o of_o their_o trade_n deck_v themselves_o with_o such_o gorgeous_a and_o garish_a apparel_n as_o beseem_v not_o honest_a matron_n glance_v with_o wanton_a eye_n at_o their_o lover_n paint_v their_o face_n and_o lay_v out_o their_o naked_a breast_n that_o they_o may_v not_o only_o profess_v themselves_o wanton_a and_o lascivious_a but_o also_o with_o these_o bait_n allure_v other_o to_o commit_v wickedness_n with_o they_o so_o the_o church_n of_o israel_n live_v in_o spiritual_a whoredom_n grow_v to_o that_o impudency_n in_o sin_n that_o she_o be_v not_o content_a to_o commit_v it_o in_o secret_a but_o also_o to_o profess_v it_o yea_o to_o defend_v and_o boast_v in_o every_o corner_n they_o erect_v image_n and_o idol_n they_o adorn_v they_o with_o gold_n and_o precious_a ornament_n they_o in_o most_o impudent_a manner_n prostitute_v themselves_o unto_o they_o to_o commit_v spiritual_a whoredom_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o all_o the_o world_n worship_v and_o serve_v they_o in_o stead_n of_o the_o true_a god_n and_o like_o shameless_a harlot_n they_o do_v not_o only_a themselves_o commit_v this_o wickedness_n but_o also_o allure_v other_o to_o go_v a_o whore_v with_o they_o these_o word_n than_o be_v metaphorical_a borrow_v from_o the_o practice_n of_o harlot_n who_o that_o they_o may_v display_v the_o filthy_a uncleanness_n of_o their_o mind_n and_o allure_v other_o to_o unlawful_a lust_n do_v seek_v to_o entice_v they_o by_o wanton_a look_n paint_v of_o their_o face_n and_o lay_v out_o their_o naked_a breast_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o prophet_n attribute_v fornication_n to_o the_o face_n and_o eye_n and_o adultery_n to_o the_o breast_n because_o unto_o harlot_n these_o part_n be_v the_o instrument_n of_o their_o uncleanness_n whereby_o they_o testify_v and_o as_o it_o be_v proclaim_v that_o they_o be_v ready_a and_o willing_a to_o commit_v whoredom_n and_o also_o allure_v other_o to_o join_v with_o they_o in_o their_o beastliness_n so_o the_o apostle_n peter_n say_v of_o some_o that_o their_o eye_n be_v full_a their_o spiritual_a whoredom_n in_o the_o former_a chapter_n and_o denounce_v his_o fearful_a judgement_n against_o they_o yet_o because_o they_o do_v not_o repent_v but_o obstinate_o and_o impudent_o continue_v in_o their_o idolatry_n the_o lord_n content_v not_o himself_o with_o once_o reprove_v of_o they_o but_o cause_v his_o prophet_n to_o beat_v
confidence_n and_o carnal_a affiance_n whereby_o we_o trust_v and_o rest_n upon_o rather_o the_o creature_n then_o upon_o he_o our_o creator_n and_o withal_o do_v beat_v we_o from_o those_o worldly_a people_n affliction_n now_o out_o of_o the_o latter_a part_n wherein_o be_v show_v the_o second_o effect_n namely_o their_o forsake_v their_o idol_n and_o turn_v unto_o the_o lord_n these_o instruction_n be_v further_a to_o be_v observe_v first_o we_o learn_v that_o howsoever_o those_o that_o belong_v to_o god_n election_n may_v for_o a_o time_n leave_v god_n pure_a worship_n and_o follow_v idol_n yea_o and_o be_v so_o blind_v in_o their_o superstition_n that_o when_o they_o be_v afflict_v for_o their_o sin_n they_o do_v with_o more_o earnestness_n embrace_v idolatry_n yet_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o so_o leave_v they_o but_o at_o length_n he_o will_v open_v their_o eye_n that_o they_o shall_v see_v their_o sin_n and_o sensible_o discern_v that_o they_o be_v the_o cause_n follow_v their_o own_o invention_n example_n hereof_o we_o have_v in_o abraham_n in_o the_o israelite_n come_v out_o of_o egypt_n and_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o judge_n and_o in_o many_o at_o this_o day_n who_o have_v forsake_v the_o idolatry_n of_o the_o whore_n of_o babylon_n and_o have_v embrace_v god_n true_a religion_n second_o we_o may_v observe_v that_o as_o soon_o as_o they_o spy_v their_o they_o as_o soon_o as_o the_o faithful_a see_v their_o error_n and_o sin_n they_o reform_v and_o forsake_v they_o error_n they_o do_v not_o go_v on_o further_a in_o they_o but_o they_o return_v into_o the_o way_n of_o truth_n as_o soon_o as_o they_o see_v their_o sin_n they_o forsake_v they_o as_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o their_o misery_n when_o they_o see_v the_o vainness_n of_o this_o valley_n of_o pleasure_n shall_v be_v unto_o we_o also_o anchor_n that_o be_v the_o valley_n of_o trouble_n partly_o in_o regard_n of_o our_o treacherous_a flesh_n which_o be_v allure_v with_o unlawful_a pleasure_n and_o profit_n do_v move_v we_o to_o offend_v god_n whereby_o we_o be_v hinder_v in_o our_o journey_n towards_o our_o heavenly_a country_n and_o want_v the_o feel_n of_o our_o assurance_n of_o attain_v to_o our_o eternal_a rest_n we_o be_v turmoil_v with_o fear_n and_o doubt_v and_o afflict_v with_o much_o sorrow_n and_o heaviness_n of_o spirit_n and_o partly_o in_o but_o yet_o we_o be_v not_o hereby_o to_o be_v discourage_v for_o the_o lord_n will_v give_v a_o good_a issue_n to_o all_o our_o trial_n and_o in_o the_o end_n will_v grant_v unto_o we_o a_o glorious_a victory_n over_o all_o our_o enemy_n and_o change_v this_o valley_n of_o trouble_n into_o a_o valley_n of_o triumph_n will_v so_o bring_v we_o into_o full_a possession_n of_o our_o heavenly_a canaan_n where_o we_o shall_v obtain_v comfort_n without_o mixture_n of_o affliction_n joy_n without_o sorrow_n and_o eternal_a rest_n from_o the_o assault_n of_o all_o our_o enemy_n when_o as_o then_o we_o be_v in_o any_o affliction_n let_v we_o remember_v that_o though_o the_o lord_n for_o a_o time_n seem_v to_o frown_v upon_o we_o yet_o in_o the_o end_n

lay_v down_o our_o life_n for_o his_o sake_n who_o be_v our_o love_a husband_n see_v he_o have_v lay_v down_o his_o for_o we_o even_o while_o we_o be_v his_o enemy_n let_v we_o yield_v unto_o he_o voluntary_a and_o absolute_a obedience_n and_o submit_v ourselves_o to_o be_v rule_v and_o guide_v by_o his_o word_n and_o spirit_n let_v we_o keep_v our_o conjugal_a fidelity_n reserve_v ourselves_o pure_a and_o undefiled_a as_o from_o all_o other_o sin_n so_o especial_o from_o idolatry_n and_o superstition_n let_v we_o who_o have_v communion_n both_o in_o christ_n and_o all_o his_o benefit_n not_o grudge_n to_o give_v ourselves_o and_o the_o best_a thing_n we_o have_v unto_o he_o for_o the_o advancement_n of_o his_o glory_n and_o the_o further_a of_o his_o worship_n and_o service_n especial_o let_v we_o give_v unto_o he_o our_o heart_n which_o he_o so_o much_o desire_v let_v we_o reverence_v he_o as_o our_o heavenly_a husband_n fear_v his_o displeasure_n as_o the_o great_a grace_n which_o may_v make_v we_o appear_v amiable_a in_o his_o sight_n and_o so_o we_o shall_v confirm_v ourselves_o in_o this_o assurance_n that_o we_o be_v espouse_v unto_o christ_n and_o shall_v be_v make_v partaker_n not_o only_o of_o himself_o but_o also_o of_o all_o his_o benefit_n and_o these_o be_v the_o doctrine_n which_o be_v to_o be_v observe_v out_o us._n nothing_o can_v frustrate_v the_o covenant_n between_o god_n and_o us._n of_o the_o contract_n itself_o now_o follow_v those_o which_o arise_v out_o of_o the_o adjunct_n and_o property_n of_o this_o marriage_n and_o first_o come_v second_o we_o learn_v that_o though_o this_o righteousness_n be_v perpetual_a our_o righteousness_n constant_a and_o perpetual_a weak_a and_o imperfect_a yet_o shall_v it_o be_v perpetual_a even_o as_o our_o marriage_n with_o christ_n be_v perpetual_a and_o eternal_a and_o therefore_o although_o we_o must_v work_v out_o our_o salvation_n with_o fear_n and_o tremble_a and_o labour_v earnest_o to_o have_v this_o our_o righteousness_n more_o and_o more_o strengthen_v and_o increase_v yet_o when_o we_o feel_v our_o slow_a progress_n in_o the_o path_n of_o righteousness_n and_o find_v it_o mingle_v with_o our_o great_a corruption_n and_o imperfection_n like_o a_o few_o grain_n of_o corn_n in_o a_o heap_n of_o chaff_n let_v we_o not_o be_v utter_o discourage_v as_o fear_v lest_o this_o little_a spark_n of_o righteousness_n will_v be_v altogether_o quench_v with_o the_o flood_n of_o our_o corruption_n see_v the_o lord_n have_v promise_v that_o as_o this_o his_o covenant_n of_o marriage_n with_o we_o shall_v be_v perpetual_a so_o also_o that_o it_o shall_v for_o ever_o continue_v in_o righteousness_n etc._n etc._n three_o whereas_o the_o lord_n promise_v that_o he_o will_v marry_v christ_n our_o righteousness_n be_v not_o the_o cause_n of_o our_o union_n with_o christ_n his_o church_n in_o righteousness_n not_o by_o choose_v she_o be_v righteous_a but_o by_o make_v her_o righteous_a be_v choose_v hence_o we_o learn_v that_o our_o own_o righteousness_n be_v not_o the_o cause_n of_o this_o holy_a and_o happy_a union_n but_o that_o this_o union_n profession_n may_v well_o keep_v their_o old_a name_n of_o craft_n and_o mysterye_n see_v almost_o every_o shop_n be_v now_o become_v a_o school_n of_o deceit_n and_o falsehood_n in_o which_o there_o be_v so_o many_o hide_a subtlety_n so_o many_o unknown_a secrecy_n and_o subtle_a turn_n and_o wind_n that_o in_o their_o deal_n there_o be_v not_o only_a fraud_n but_o even_o a_o mystery_n of_o
