thing_n whatsoever_o you_o shall_v ask_v in_o prayer_n believe_v you_o shall_v receive_v the_o necessity_n of_o faith_n in_o prayer_n be_v also_o gather_v from_o other_o text_n of_o scripture_n as_o heb._n 11.6_o but_o without_o faith_n it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v god_n for_o he_o that_o come_v to_o god_n must_v believe_v etc._n etc._n and_o again_o james_n 1.5_o 6._o if_o any_o of_o of_o no_o doubt_v or_o uncertainty_n of_o the_o mind_n in_o the_o thing_n ask_v and_o that_o a_o faith_n of_o reliance_n be_v not_o sufficient_a see_v that_o be_v always_o attend_v with_o some_o doubt_v as_o in_o esther_n if_o i_o perish_v i_o perish_v she_o rely_v upon_o god_n in_o the_o use_n of_o mean_n but_o yet_o be_v doubtful_a as_o to_o the_o success_n and_o event_n thereof_o now_o if_o this_o faith_n be_v not_o accept_v in_o prayer_n than_o the_o prayer_n of_o most_o of_o the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v ineffectual_a see_v most_o of_o they_o have_v not_o the_o faith_n of_o assurance_n that_o say_v of_o the_o holy_a man_n james_n shall_v be_v clear_v in_o its_o proper_a place_n answ_n but_o in_o answer_n to_o the_o question_n it_o be_v affirm_v that_o although_o it_o time_n but_o that_o we_o may_v be_v the_o more_o clear_a and_o distinct_a in_o our_o handle_n this_o point_n to_o the_o satisfaction_n and_o comfort_n of_o weak_a and_o scrupulous_a conscience_n we_o shall_v first_o give_v a_o brief_a description_n of_o these_o two_o kind_n of_o faith_n in_o their_o distinct_a and_o different_a nature_n that_o so_o the_o person_n who_o be_v scrupulous_a may_v the_o better_a judge_n of_o his_o faith_n of_o what_o kind_n it_o be_v and_o then_o we_o shall_v by_o scripture_n and_o experience_n make_v good_a our_o assertion_n viz._n that_o a_o faith_n of_o reliance_n be_v accept_v of_o god_n in_o prayer_n where_o the_o faith_n of_o assurance_n be_v want_v faith_n of_o assurance_n describe_v the_o faith_n of_o assurance_n
address_n to_o god_n by_o prayer_n it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o the_o person_n pray_v be_v a_o believer_n but_o also_o that_o the_o prayer_n make_v be_v a_o prayer_n of_o faith_n or_o a_o believe_a those_o prayer_n therefore_o be_v faithless_a prayer_n in_o which_o there_o be_v not_o a_o present_a exercise_n of_o faith_n though_o the_o person_n or_o person_n pray_v be_v in_o a_o state_n of_o grace_n and_o have_v the_o habit_n of_o faith_n in_o their_o heart_n 3._o quest_n or_o case_n of_o conscience_n if_o the_o exercise_n and_o actuality_n of_o faith_n be_v necessary_o require_v in_o all_o thing_n whatsoever_o we_o ask_v of_o god_n in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n then_o whether_o may_v such_o a_o exercise_n of_o faith_n be_v accept_v as_o be_v accompany_v with_o some_o doubt_v and_o waver_v of_o the_o mind_n or_o be_v such_o a_o exercise_n of_o faith_n only_a current_n with_o god_n in_o prayer_n as_o be_v clear_a and_o steadfast_a without_o the_o least_o doubt_n or_o waver_v the_o reason_n of_o this_o scruple_n or_o question_n be_v that_o say_v of_o the_o holy_a man_n james_n in_o his_o chap._n 1._o v._n 6_o 7._o but_o let_v he_o ask_v in_o faith_n nothing_o waver_v for_o he_o that_o waver_v be_v like_o a_o wave_n of_o the_o sea_n drive_v with_o the_o wind_n and_o toss_v for_o let_v not_o that_o man_n think_v that_o he_o shall_v receive_v any_o thing_n of_o the_o lord_n now_o if_o such_o a_o exercise_n of_o faith_n as_o be_v attend_v with_o some_o doubt_v be_v not_o accept_v of_o god_n and_o the_o prayer_n of_o such_o be_v altogether_o fruitless_a and_o unprofitable_a as_o this_o scripture_n seem_v to_o import_v then_o be_v the_o hope_n comfort_n and_o experience_n of_o the_o most_o of_o god_n child_n thereby_o cut_v off_o and_o deny_v and_o if_o otherwise_o then_o how_o be_v this_o say_n of_o james_n to_o be_v understand_v and_o reconcile_v with_o other_o scripture_n ans_fw-fr doubt_v two_o kind_n of_o doubt_v there_o be_v a_o twofold_a thereof_o at_o the_o same_o time_n in_o some_o degree_n the_o say_n of_o the_o holy_a man_n james_n abovementioned_a be_v to_o be_v understand_v only_o of_o the_o former_a explain_v former_a kind_a explain_v viz._n such_o doubt_v or_o waver_v of_o the_o mind_n as_o do_v oppose_v faith_n and_o be_v exclusive_a to_o it_o as_o be_v clear_a by_o the_o antithesis_fw-la or_o opposition_n of_o faith_n
