work_n a_o contempt_n of_o the_o world_n and_o of_o all_o worldly_a thing_n last_o a_o long_a desire_n of_o the_o life_n to_o come_v with_o a_o weariness_n of_o this_o present_a he_o that_o by_o such_o sign_n as_o these_o shall_v perceive_v that_o by_o god_n grace_n he_o be_v become_v a_o christian_n must_v also_o know_v that_o in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n not_o to_o go_v forward_o be_v to_o go_v backward_o and_o that_o he_o only_o go_v forward_o who_o find_v himself_o to_o grow_v daily_o strong_a and_o more_o fervent_a in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n and_o in_o all_o virtue_n now_o this_o be_v chiesly_a procure_v by_o continual_a prayer_n as_o we_o have_v say_v elsewhere_o which_o no_o man_n can_v make_v right_o but_o he_o that_o study_v simplicity_n that_o be_v to_o say_v sincerity_n according_a to_o the_o duty_n of_o that_o state_n wherein_o he_o intend_v to_o fix_v and_o settle_v himself_o must_v be_v careful_a as_o we_o say_v to_o live_v simple_o that_o be_v innocent_o pure_o and_o undissemble_o and_o in_o a_o word_n answerable_o in_o all_o thing_n to_o what_o his_o profession_n require_v so_o as_o he_o may_v be_v always_o as_o much_o as_o possible_a intent_n upon_o divine_a and_o good_a thing_n i_o mean_v upon_o the_o service_n of_o god_n by_o prayer_n meditation_n and_o other_o duty_n of_o religion_n or_o upon_o the_o service_n of_o his_o neighbour_n by_o work_n of_o mercy_n spiritual_a corporal_a at_o home_o and_o abroad_o but_o because_o it_o be_v difficult_a yea_o almost_o impossible_a to_o give_v instruction_n here_o proper_a for_o all_o person_n by_o reason_n of_o the_o different_a estate_n and_o condition_n of_o man_n i_o shall_v advise_v every_o one_o who_o have_v desire_n to_o live_v indeed_o this_o life_n of_o a_o christian_a to_o address_v himself_o to_o some_o good_a ghostly-father_n who_o by_o his_o learning_n and_o experience_n may_v be_v able_a to_o direct_v he_o and_o according_a to_o his_o counsel_n to_o govern_v himself_o in_o his_o spiritual_a affair_n but_o let_v he_o take_v heed_n that_o he_o fall_v not_o into_o the_o hand_n of_o these_o lukewarm_a and_o indifferent_a confessor_n who_o have_v indeed_o some_o form_n or_o show_v of_o piety_n but_o renounce_v the_o power_n thereof_o it_o may_v be_v think_v perhaps_o very_o hard_o to_o escape_v such_o person_n who_o have_v outward_o pretence_n of_o sanctity_n and_o god_n only_o be_v the_o discerner_n of_o heart_n nay_o whereas_o it_o be_v say_v by_o their_o fruit_n you_o shall_v know_v they_o though_o they_o be_v indeed_o but_o a_o kind_n of_o hypocrite_n and_o dissembler_n yet_o have_v they_o some_o appearance_n of_o good_a work_n how_o then_o shall_v we_o know_v they_o i_o say_v still_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v difficult_a to_o know_v they_o for_o any_o man_n that_o desire_v to_o walk_v upright_o see_v it_o be_v write_v light_n be_v spring_v up_o even_o in_o darkness_n to_o the_o upright_a in_o heart_n and_o in_o another_o place_n your_o anoint_v shall_v teach_v you_o all_o thing_n and_o even_o in_o natural_a thing_n we_o see_v those_o which_o have_v different_a form_n can_v never_o absolute_o agree_v especial_o if_o those_o form_n be_v contrary_a now_o the_o form_n that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o spirit_n and_o disposition_n of_o a_o true_a christian_a and_o of_o a_o formalist_n be_v as_o contrary_a as_o can_v be_v the_o one_o that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o true_a christian_a look_v only_o at_o the_o service_n of_o god_n the_o other_o ever_o to_o his_o own_o interest_n therefore_o it_o be_v impossible_a they_o shall_v resemble_v in_o all_o thing_n and_o consequent_o impossible_a that_o the_o true_a christian_a who_o be_v himself_o zealous_a for_o god_n and_o of_o a_o right_a intention_n shall_v not_o disoern_v he_o who_o be_v but_o lukewarm_a and_o a_o hypocrite_n especial_o after_o some_o conversation_n and_o that_o the_o anoint_v of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n as_o be_v say_v illuminate_v he_o as_o soon_o therefore_o as_o it_o appear_v that_o the_o father_n who_o he_o have_v choose_v be_v one_o of_o those_o who_o be_v not_o as_o they_o shall_v be_v let_v he_o fly_v from_o he_o as_o he_o will_v fly_v efficacious_a both_o to_o cause_v to_o augment_v and_o to_o preserve_v grace_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o every_o good_a christian_a to_o keep_v himself_o diligent_o in_o estate_n to_o frequent_v those_o sacrament_n with_o devotion_n after_o that_o a_o man_n be_v thus_o become_v a_o christian_n and_o labour_n to_o live_v christianly_o the_o three_o precept_n i_o be_o to_o be_v present_o satisfy_v with_o but_o a_o small_a provision_n but_o the_o desire_n of_o man_n be_v without_o end_n his_o heart_n be_v restless_a inscrutable_o perverse_a and_o miserable_a with_o all_o last_o beast_n have_v no_o thought_n of_o any_o future_a life_n nor_o of_o the_o immortality_n of_o soul_n about_o which_o man_n be_v extreme_o perplex_v almost_o in_o continual_a dread_n and_o apprehension_n of_o go_v after_o all_o the_o trouble_n and_o toyling_n of_o this_o life_n unto_o pain_n eternal_a if_o therefore_o our_o soul_n be_v not_o indeed_o immortal_a there_o be_v no_o all_o thing_n come_v to_o pass_v by_o chance_n that_o be_v by_o nothing_o for_o chance_n be_v nothing_o but_o our_o ignorance_n or_o non-praevision_a of_o the_o true_a cause_n a_o paradox_n sufficient_o confute_v by_o the_o very_a order_n of_o the_o universe_n and_o that_o wonderful_a regularity_n which_o be_v observe_v yea_o sensible_a in_o all_o the_o proceed_n of_o nature_n and_o be_v not_o god_n and_o that_o god_n have_v providence_n over_o the_o world_n the_o course_n of_o nature_n as_o we_o say_v even_o now_o sufficient_o show_v and_o the_o philosopher_n themselves_o confess_v say_v that_o the_o work_n of_o nature_n be_v the_o work_n of_o a_o intellect_n which_o err_v not_o and_o although_o it_o have_v come_v in_o dispute_n among_o they_o whither_o god_n have_v providence_n over_o humane_a affair_n perhaps_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o great_a irregularity_n
and_o deviation_n which_o seem_v to_o be_v in_o they_o more_o than_o in_o other_o thing_n yet_o certain_o it_o can_v be_v deny_v by_o any_o wise_a man_n but_o that_o he_o have_v over_o they_o and_o over_o all_o and_o over_o the_o least_o as_o much_o as_o over_o the_o great_a because_o providence_n in_o every_o thing_n be_v so_o much_o the_o more_o perfect_a and_o more_o excellent_a by_o how_o much_o it_o further_o extend_v itself_o and_o take_v care_n of_o more_o thing_n see_v then_o that_o the_o providence_n of_o god_n must_v be_v acknowledge_v the_o most_o perfect_a of_o all_o it_o have_v from_o god_n in_o all_o thing_n study_v and_o endeavour_v to_o please_v he_o the_o evil_a be_v those_o who_o follow_v not_o reason_n nor_o observe_v any_o rectitude_n or_o regularity_n of_o life_n if_o therefore_o the_o divine_a majesty_n have_v providence_n over_o humane_a affair_n and_o be_v just_a as_o he_o be_v he_o must_v certain_o have_v determine_v with_o himself_o both_o to_o reward_v the_o good_a and_o to_o punish_v such_o as_o be_v evil_a but_o this_o we_o see_v not_o do_v at_o least_o not_o exact_o not_o particular_o in_o this_o life_n therefore_o we_o must_v confess_v some_o other_o life_n to_o come_v wherein_o the_o reward_n of_o the_o just_a and_o punishment_n of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v be_v more_o eminent_o see_v which_o if_o it_o be_v so_o how_o much_o do_v it_o concern_v we_o to_o please_v god_n by_o a_o good_a life_n and_o see_v as_o we_o have_v elsewhere_o show_v that_o there_o can_v be_v no_o better_a life_n than_o the_o christian_a life_n be_v it_o be_v to_o no_o purpose_n for_o we_o to_o seek_v any_o where_o else_o how_o to_o live_v or_o how_o to_o please_v god_n for_o a_o life_n so_o lead_v can_v be_v without_o its_o due_a reward_n can_v be_v frustrate_v of_o that_o happiness_n which_o be_v promise_v to_o it_o if_o it_o can_v there_o be_v no_o life_n sure_a of_o happiness_n for_o the_o life_n of_o christian_n in_o many_o respect_n show_v that_o god_n have_v peculiar_a providence_n over_o they_o and_o therefore_o if_o their_o faith_n be_v not_o true_a neither_o can_v their_o life_n so_o much_o be_v govern_v by_o it_o nor_o will_v god_n sufter_o they_o long_o in_o that_o error_n who_o goodness_n it_o be_v to_o illuminate_v those_o which_o be_v good_a and_o right_a of_o heart_n and_o to_o harden_v and_o leave_v in_o blindness_n only_o those_o which_o be_v evil_a if_o therefore_o these_o thing_n be_v so_o let_v we_o believe_v in_o christ_n and_o let_v we_o live_v christianly_o for_o so_o do_v as_o be_v manifest_a by_o what_o have_v be_v say_v we_o can_v perish_v but_o must_v be_v happy_a in_o this_o world_n and_o in_o the_o next_o after_o a_o man_n have_v by_o this_o first_o consideration_n prepare_v himself_o and_o be_v wherein_o christian_a life_n do_v as_o it_o be_v essential_o consist_v which_o be_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n i_o mean_v that_o grace_n which_o as_o we_o touch_v before_o do_v justify_v &_o make_v a_o man_n good_a in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n for_o we_o observe_v some_o man_n as_o soon_o as_o they_o begin_v to_o have_v a_o desire_n of_o live_v christianly_o they_o present_o apply_v themselves_o to_o the_o ceremony_n of_o religion_n and_o perform_v they_o exterior_o they_o imagine_v all_o on_o the_o sudden_a that_o they_o be_v become_v exceed_o good_a christian_n with_o which_o vanity_n many_o deceive_v themselves_o pretend_v to_o be_v christian_n but_o false_o be_v indeed_o a_o foolish_a lukewarm_a yet_o very_o arrogant_a sort_n of_o people_n man_n indeed_o look_v only_o on_o the_o outside_n praise_v what_o they_o see_v but_o god_n behold_v the_o heart_n and_o say_v to_o these_o man_n as_o our_o saviour_n say_v to_o the_o pharisee_n you_o be_v they_o who_o justify_v yourselves_o before_o man_n but_o god_n know_v your_o heart_n for_o many_o time_n that_o which_o be_v of_o high_a esteem_n with_o man_n be_v abomination_n before_o god_n he_o therefore_o that_o desire_v indeed_o worthy_o come_v unto_o they_o let_v he_o prepare_v himself_o in_o the_o second_o place_n to_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n with_o the_o best_a disposition_n and_o diligence_n he_o can_v in_o particular_a if_o he_o be_v a_o believer_n but_o yet_o not_o baptise_a let_v he_o prepare_v himself_o and_o come_v to_o the_o sacrament_n of_o baptism_n with_o atrue_a sincere_a faith_n and_o good_a intention_n if_o he_o be_v already_o a_o christian_a but_o guilty_a of_o sin_n let_v he_o come_v with_o true_a contrition_n pure_a confession_n and_o perfect_a satissaction_n and_o submit_v himself_o to_o the_o sacrament_n of_o penance_n and_o thereby_o also_o devout_o sit_v himself_o for_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o eucharist_n and_o in_o this_o course_n let_v he_o persist_v constant_o until_o
