his_o death_n and_o whether_o they_o be_v in_o charity_n with_o all_o man_n in_o the_o homily_n teach_v the_o worthy_a receive_n of_o the_o sacrament_n say_v the_o church_n we_o must_v certain_o know_v devil_n 12_o still_o in_o use_n ever_o since_o the_o primitive_a age_n of_o the_o church_n what_o repentance_n be_v the_o nature_n of_o this_o repentance_n will_v appear_v in_o the_o name_n and_o in_o the_o act_n thereof_o both_o express_v in_o the_o word_n of_o the_o catechism_n the_o name_n do_v in_o our_o language_n betoken_v sorrow_n to_o repent_v of_o any_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v only_o that_o use_n and_o exercise_v of_o it_o which_o be_v sacramental_a yet_o hence_o we_o may_v discern_v the_o nature_n of_o it_o in_o general_a for_o if_o instead_o of_o this_o word_n the_o promise_n we_o substitute_v this_o word_n the_o truth_n of_o godliness_n whereof_o the_o promise_n be_v one_o branch_n then_o have_v we_o a_o full_a definition_n of_o faith_n general_n viz._n that_o faith_n be_v a_o steadfast_a belief_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o godliness_n by_o the_o truth_n of_o godliness_n we_o understand_v that_o holy_a truth_n which_o in_o the_o word_n of_o scripture_n be_v reveal_v whether_o for_o knowledge_n as_o the_o history_n of_o the_o creation_n redemption_n etc._n etc._n or_o for_o practice_v as_o the_o precept_n threaten_n promise_n all_o which_o by_o faith_n we_o steadfast_o believe_v and_o then_o be_v it_o manifest_a that_o our_o belief_n be_v steadfast_a indeed_o when_o the_o truth_n of_o godliness_n do_v leave_v a_o impression_n upon_o the_o soul_n for_o this_o be_v the_o property_n of_o this_o holy_a truth_n that_o where_o it_o be_v receive_v and_o believe_v as_o it_o ought_v there_o do_v it_o new_a mould_n and_o frame_v the_o soul_n and_o god_n to_o stay_v to_o roll_v upon_o to_o trust_v to_o place_v confidence_n in_o he_o etc._n etc._n the_o reason_n whereof_o be_v because_o in_o scripture_n phrase_n he_o be_v not_o account_v to_o believe_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n who_o do_v not_o thereupon_o put_v confidence_n in_o god_n say_v the_o same_o touch_v the_o precept_n and_o threaten_n not_o he_o that_o subscribe_v to_o the_o truth_n of_o they_o but_o he_o that_o fear_v and_o obey_v be_v the_o believer_n thus_o we_o see_v how_o faith_n be_v a_o mother-grace_n viz._n the_o mother_n and_o nurse_n of_o reverence_n obedience_n and_o confidence_n so_o then_o steadfast_o to_o believe_v the_o promise_n be_v but_o one_o act_n of_o faith_n and_o so_o the_o church_n say_v faith_n by_o which_o we_o steadfast_o believe_v the_o promise_n this_o be_v one_o act_n but_o not_o the_o only_a act_n of_o faith_n note_v further_o that_o the_o church_n add_v the_o promise_v make_v to_o they_o in_o that_o sacrament_n which_o be_v no_o less_o true_a in_o the_o supper_n than_o in_o baptism_n sacramental_a faith_n that_o be_v the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n as_o a_o qualification_n to_o fit_v we_o for_o the_o sacrament_n must_v
