beholder_n render_v he_o the_o more_o beautiful_a by_o the_o sight_n of_o those_o person_n or_o object_n he_o may_v carry_v away_o a_o idea_n of_o the_o beauty_n and_o comeliness_n of_o those_o person_n or_o object_n that_o he_o have_v behold_v in_o his_o mind_n which_o may_v delight_v his_o fancy_n in_o the_o thought_n of_o they_o but_o there_o be_v no_o alteration_n make_v in_o he_o but_o the_o same_o deformity_n and_o blemish_n remain_v still_o notwithstanding_o but_o it_o be_v otherwise_o in_o heaven_n the_o sight_n of_o the_o glorious_a and_o holy_a god_n make_v the_o saint_n that_o behold_v he_o to_o become_v like_a unto_o he_o in_o holiness_n and_o glory_n for_o so_o be_v the_o word_n of_o the_o belove_a apostle_n who_o lie_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o christ_n 1_o john_n 3.2_o we_o shall_v be_v like_a unto_o he_o that_o be_v unto_o god_n and_o the_o ground_n or_o reason_n of_o it_o follow_v in_o the_o next_o word_n for_o we_o shall_v see_v he_o as_o he_o be_v it_o be_v true_a the_o people_n of_o god_n be_v like_a unto_o he_o while_o they_o be_v in_o this_o world_n but_o their_o likeness_n to_o god_n here_o and_o their_o likeness_n to_o he_o in_o heaven_n great_o in_o his_o patience_n something_o that_o may_v be_v add_v to_o his_o heavenly-mindedness_a to_o his_o meekness_n to_o his_o humility_n and_o to_o all_o his_o other_o grace_n hence_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o the_o people_n of_o god_n be_v so_o often_o command_v to_o add_v to_o their_o spiritual_a stature_n to_o increase_v with_o the_o increase_v of_o god_n to_o grow_v in_o grace_n and_o in_o the_o save_a knowledge_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n and_o to_o explain_v this_o truth_n no_o far_o that_o of_o the_o apostle_n be_v full_a to_o this_o purpose_n 2_o cor._n profit_n and_o advantage_n and_o sometime_o they_o be_v awe_v with_o fear_n and_o threaten_n but_o if_o they_o will_v put_v forth_o their_o grace_n into_o exercise_n and_o by_o prayer_n implore_v divine_a assistance_n they_o will_v be_v enable_v not_o only_o to_o stand_v up_o against_o all_o the_o enemy_n of_o their_o peace_n but_o with_o a_o holy_a joy_n and_o triumph_n to_o vanquish_v and_o over_o come_v they_o this_o be_v that_o life_n a_o godly_a man_n may_v lead_v be_v he_o so_o watchful_a as_o he_o ought_v but_o experience_n tell_v we_o it_o be_v not_o so_o for_o there_o be_v many_o there_o be_v none_o upon_o earth_n that_o i_o desire_v beside_o thou_o thy_o favour_n o_o lord_n be_v life_n and_o thy_o love_a kindness_n be_v better_a than_o life_n and_o with_o how_o much_o great_a joy_n and_o delight_n do_v a_o saint_n say_v so_o of_o god_n and_o of_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o he_o in_o heaven_n it_o be_v true_a saint_n in_o heaven_n enjoy_v the_o blessedness_n of_o peace_n and_o rest_n from_o all_o their_o former_a trouble_n and_o sorrow_n which_o they_o remember_v with_o delight_n and_o praise_n unto_o their_o deliverer_n but_o though_o this_o eternal_a peace_n and_o rest_n be_v a_o great_a blessing_n and_o that_o which_o pass_v all_o understanding_n yet_o be_v it_o the_o least_o part_n of_o the_o saint_n happiness_n in_o heaven_n for_o their_o great_a satisfaction_n family_n and_o particular_a person_n which_o peevish_a man_n be_v wont_v here_o to_o find_v fault_n with_o be_v all_o disclose_v and_o make_v appear_v to_o be_v so_o just_a and_o righteous_a yea_o so_o necessary_a and_o seasonable_a that_o those_o very_a thing_n which_o here_o be_v a_o temptation_n to_o we_o to_o deny_v god_n shall_v in_o heaven_n prove_v a_o powerful_a engagement_n for_o we_o godly_a man_n can_v attain_v to_o here_o be_v not_o to_o commit_v great_a sin_n nor_o to_o allow_v himself_o in_o little_a sin_n when_o through_o daily_a infirmity_n he_o do_v commit_v they_o now_o have_v be_v true_a for_o all_o of_o they_o put_v together_o be_v not_o worthy_a to_o be_v compare_v to_o nor_o meritorious_a of_o the_o glory_n that_o shall_v be_v reveal_v remarkable_a be_v that_o apostle_n the_o lord_n grant_v unto_o onesiphorus_n that_o he_o may_v find_v mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n at_o that_o day_n mercy_n must_v save_v the_o holy_a man_n to_o all_o eternity_n as_o well_o as_o convert_v the_o great_a sinner_n there_o be_v considerable_a in_o heaven_n not_o only_o the_o glory_n of_o it_o in_o opposition_n to_o our_o misery_n but_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o bestow_v of_o it_o in_o opposition_n to_o our_o unworthiness_n and_o without_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n there_o be_v no_o expectation_n of_o heaven_n and_o evermore_o where_o mercy_n be_v there_o be_v a_o exclusion_n of_o all_o merit_n now_o from_o all_o these_o consideration_n put_v together_o it_o be_v clear_a that_o god_n bestow_v of_o eternal_a life_n and_o glory_n upon_o the_o saint_n in_o heaven_n be_v not_o the_o reward_v of_o their_o good_a work_n by_o way_n of_o merit_n and_o desert_n second_o heaven_n and_o eternal_a life_n be_v call_v a_o reward_n because_o it_o be_v give_v to_o the_o people_n of_o god_n as_o a_o sequel_n or_o consequence_n upon_o or_o rather_o after_o their_o performance_n of_o the_o work_n of_o holy_a obedience_n and_o this_o be_v plain_a and_o evident_a because_o good_a work_n be_v the_o antecedent_n disposition_n and_o preparation_n wrought_v in_o we_o for_o the_o fit_a and_o qualify_a of_o we_o to_o partake_v of_o the_o reward_n of_o eternal_a life_n and_o glory_n for_o it_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o the_o holiness_n and_o justice_n of_o god_n to_o give_v heaven_n unto_o any_o that_o be_v not_o holy_a shall_v god_n take_v a_o unholy_a creature_n and_o reward_v he_o at_o the_o last_o day_n with_o eternal_a life_n this_o will_v pollute_v heaven_n itself_o but_o god_n have_v provide_v another_o place_n for_o such_o a_o hell_n where_o they_o shall_v for_o ever_o receive_v the_o reward_n and_o wage_n of_o their_o work_n in_o eternal_a pain_n and_o misery_n in_o the_o destribution_n of_o reward_n among_o man_n usual_o respect_n be_v have_v either_o to_o some_o past_a merit_n or_o to_o some_o present_a previous_a qualification_n in_o those_o on_o who_o such_o reward_n be_v bestow_v the_o former_a of_o these_o can_v be_v apply_v unto_o god_n because_o there_o can_v be_v no_o such_o thing_n as_o merit_n or_o desert_n in_o the_o creature_n that_o can_v oblige_v the_o great_a god_n to_o bestow_v the_o heavenly_a reward_n upon_o any_o but_o yet_o in_o the_o latter_a sense_n there_o be_v always_o previous_a qualification_n of_o grace_n and_o holiness_n in_o all_o those_o on_o who_o god_n bestow_v the_o reward_n of_o the_o heavenly_a inheritance_n h_o nce_n therefore_o the_o apostle_n tell_v we_o heb._n 12.14_o that_o without_o holiness_n no_o man_n shall_v see_v the_o lord_n grace_n and_o holiness_n in_o a_o saint_n be_v his_o preparation_n or_o qualification_n for_o heaven_n and_o all_o that_o be_v so_o qualify_v need_v not_o fear_v but_o the_o reward_n of_o heaven_n shall_v be_v bestow_v upon_o they_o for_o and_o mean_a part_n of_o the_o happiness_n of_o heaven_n it_o be_v true_a be_v there_o nothing_o more_o nothing_o great_a nor_o better_o to_o be_v enjoy_v than_o what_o these_o thing_n amount_v unto_o a_o eternity_n of_o health_n without_o sickness_n of_o pleasure_n without_o pain_n of_o delight_n without_o sorrow_n be_v a_o very_a great_a happiness_n but_o when_o all_o these_o thing_n be_v compare_v with_o the_o infinite_o great_a and_o bless_a god_n with_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o his_o love_n and_o presence_n the_o see_v of_o his_o face_n perfection_n of_o grace_n and_o holiness_n freedom_n from_o sin_n a_o heart_n mind_n will_n and_o affection_n in_o all_o the_o desire_n and_o inclination_n of_o they_o bend_v towards_o god_n and_o all_o of_o they_o not_o only_o delight_v in_o but_o abundant_o satisfy_v and_o fill_v with_o the_o communication_n of_o the_o divine_a goodness_n they_o be_v then_o but_o a_o small_a and_o inconsiderable_a part_n of_o heaven_n happiness_n and_o not_o worthy_a to_o be_v compare_v with_o what_o a_o gracious_a soul_n both_o desire_n and_o shall_v enjoy_v for_o its_o happiness_n wherefore_o o_o christian_n if_o thou_o will_v know_v whether_o thou_o can_v upon_o good_a ground_n put_v in_o thy_o claim_n unto_o heaven_n call_v thyself_o to_o a_o account_n what_o thy_o thought_n and_o apprehension_n of_o heaven_n be_v if_o thou_o be_v doubtful_a in_o thy_o mind_n whether_o there_o be_v such_o a_o place_n and_o state_n of_o happiness_n or_o no_o or_o at_o best_a the_o high_a notion_n and_o apprehension_n thou_o have_v of_o that_o glorious_a place_n and_o state_n be_v that_o there_o thou_o shall_v live_v at_o thy_o ease_n enjoy_v nothing_o but_o carnal_a and_o sensual_a object_n and_o delight_n but_o find_v no_o spiritual_a joy_n and_o delight_n in_o thy_o soul_n in_o the_o believe_a thought_n and_o apprehension_n of_o thy_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n and_o the_o hope_n and_o expectation_n that_o thy_o soul_n shall_v there_o not_o only_o be_v free_a from_o all_o sin_n and_o pollution_n but_o be_v make_v a_o partaker_n of_o the_o fullness_n and_o perfection_n of_o all_o
and_o glory_n exalt_v in_o our_o nature_n at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o god_n through_o who_o meritorious_a undertake_n we_o come_v to_o be_v present_v unto_o god_n and_o to_o stand_v in_o his_o and_o unmixed_a good_n 3_o a_o suitable_a good_n 4_o a_o all_o sufficient_a good_n 5._o a_o satisfy_v good_n 6._o a_o everlasting_a good_n have_v in_o the_o conclusion_n of_o the_o former_a chapter_n lay_v down_o a_o brief_a description_n of_o heaven_n and_o the_o happiness_n thereof_o i_o now_o come_v to_o a_o more_o particular_a distinct_a handle_n of_o the_o several_a branch_n of_o it_o now_o here_o the_o first_o thing_n that_o i_o shall_v instance_n in_o as_o a_o part_n of_o that_o happiness_n be_v the_o company_n and_o society_n that_o the_o saint_n shall_v eternal_o enjoy_v in_o heaven_n which_o be_v comprehend_v in_o these_o four_o particular_n fellowship_n with_o all_o the_o saint_n communion_n with_o angel_n the_o sight_n of_o jesus_n christ_n as_o our_o bless_a and_o glorious_a redeemer_n and_o the_o eternal_a vision_n and_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n himself_o first_o the_o happiness_n of_o believer_n in_o heaven_n consist_v in_o their_o fellowship_n and_o society_n with_o the_o saint_n and_o people_n of_o god_n that_o have_v live_v in_o all_o age_n of_o the_o world_n the_o communion_n of_o saint_n and_o the_o great_a delight_n the_o people_n of_o god_n have_v take_v therein_o be_v that_o we_o often_o read_v of_o in_o scripture_n holy_a david_n speak_v of_o it_o with_o great_a pleasure_n psal_n 42.4_o i_o go_v say_v he_o to_o the_o house_n of_o god_n with_o the_o voice_n of_o joy_n and_o praise_n but_o why_o so_o it_o be_v say_v he_o with_o a_o multitude_n that_o keep_v holiday_n such_o society_n be_v the_o delight_n of_o his_o soul_n psal_n 16.3_o but_o to_o the_o saint_n the_o excellent_a one_o of_o the_o earth_n in_o who_o be_v all_o my_o delight_n o_o how_o rejoice_o do_v his_o soul_n speak_v when_o such_o company_n come_v unto_o he_o i_o be_v glad_a when_o they_o say_v unto_o i_o come_v let_v we_o go_v up_o unto_o the_o house_n of_o the_o lord_n psal_n 122.1_o it_o be_v true_a david_n great_a delight_n be_v in_o god_n and_o in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o he_o and_o therefore_o say_v he_o i_o will_v go_v unto_o god_n my_o exceed_a joy_n and_o cheer_v psal_n 42.4_o but_o next_o unto_o god_n the_o people_n of_o god_n and_o communion_n with_o they_o be_v those_o he_o most_o esteem_v and_o therefore_o though_o his_o go_v to_o the_o house_n of_o god_n be_v chief_o to_o meet_v with_o god_n who_o his_o soul_n do_v most_o pant_v and_o breathe_v after_o yet_o be_v it_o no_o small_a matter_n of_o joy_n to_o he_o that_o he_o go_v to_o the_o house_n of_o god_n in_o such_o company_n and_o if_o the_o people_n of_o god_n now_o be_v account_v by_o a_o godly_a man_n to_o be_v such_o delightful_a company_n here_o on_o earth_n whilst_o sin_n as_o well_o as_o grace_n be_v in_o they_o in_o conjunction_n o_o how_o delightful_a will_v their_o company_n be_v in_o heaven_n when_o they_o shall_v be_v free_a from_o all_o sin_n and_o corruption_n have_v nothing_o but_o grace_n in_o they_o in_o perfection_n here_o on_o earth_n the_o communion_n of_o saint_n be_v sweet_a and_o desirable_a though_o mix_v with_o communion_n with_o the_o world_n so_o that_o while_o we_o have_v fellowship_n with_o they_o we_o be_v to_o have_v fellowship_n with_o sinner_n at_o the_o same_o time_n and_o indeed_o there_o be_v no_o society_n so_o pure_a and_o holy_a but_o there_o be_v and_o will_v be_v a_o number_n of_o unholy_a one_o among_o they_o to_o be_v full_a of_o holiness_n ourselves_o and_o to_o have_v none_o but_o holy_a one_o in_o our_o company_n be_v a_o desirable_a thing_n on_o earth_n but_o enjoy_v only_o in_o heaven_n here_o the_o chaff_n and_o the_o wheat_n must_v grow_v together_o all_o that_o be_v now_o call_v by_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v not_o all_o holy_a but_o saint_n and_o sinner_n dwell_v together_o in_o the_o same_o house_n sit_v together_o at_o the_o same_o table_n lie_v together_o in_o the_o same_o bed_n yea_o eat_v both_o of_o the_o same_o spiritual_a meat_n and_o drink_v the_o same_o spiritual_a drink_n enjoy_v the_o same_o ordinance_n partake_v of_o the_o same_o sacrament_n even_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o our_o bless_a lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n so_o that_o the_o people_n of_o god_n though_o they_o have_v communion_n one_o with_o another_o yet_o have_v they_o fellowship_n with_o sinner_n also_o and_o this_o will_v always_o be_v the_o state_n of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n while_o they_o be_v here_o but_o now_o in_o heaven_n believer_n shall_v have_v communion_n with_o the_o saint_n and_o servant_n of_o god_n and_o with_o none_o but_o they_o for_o all_o sinner_n shall_v be_v eternal_o exclude_v out_o
of_o that_o holy_a plaee_n no_o thing_n or_o person_n that_o be_v defile_v or_o pollute_v shall_v ever_o enter_v there_o and_o certain_o this_o must_v needs_o be_v sweet_a and_o delightful_a be_v it_o a_o thing_n that_o we_o may_v suppose_v possible_a as_o indeed_o it_o be_v not_o that_o here_o we_o can_v have_v communion_n with_o the_o people_n of_o god_n and_o with_o they_o only_o yet_o the_o best_a of_o they_o have_v now_o so_o many_o weakness_n and_o imperfection_n as_o will_v render_v the_o pure_a society_n of_o they_o sometime_o uncomfortable_a for_o here_o be_v in_o their_o imperfect_a state_n they_o must_v be_v bear_v withal_o in_o many_o thing_n for_o they_o be_v still_o man_n subject_a to_o like_a passion_n and_o infirmtiy_n with_o other_o moses_n a_o man_n eminent_a for_o meekness_n so_o that_o there_o be_v none_o like_o he_o on_o earth_n yet_o sometime_o speak_v unadvised_o with_o his_o lip_n job_n a_o patient_a man_n even_o to_o a_o proverb_n yet_o have_v sometime_o his_o fit_n of_o impatience_n and_o discontent_n jonah_n a_o prophet_n of_o the_o lord_n yet_o very_o froward_a and_o peevish_a and_o justify_v his_o passion_n and_o anger_n not_o only_o before_o man_n but_o even_o unto_o the_o face_n of_o god_n himself_o say_v i_o do_v well_o to_o be_v angry_a even_o unto_o the_o death_n yea_o most_o if_o not_o all_o the_o saint_n and_o people_n of_o corruption_n in_o they_o as_o well_o as_o grace_n and_o holiness_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o all_o their_o frailty_n and_o infirmity_n they_o be_v still_o the_o best_a company_n and_o fellowship_n and_o society_n with_o they_o most_o desirable_a and_o if_o while_o they_o have_v their_o spot_n their_o stain_n upon_o they_o their_o company_n be_v so_o excellent_a and_o desirable_a what_o shall_v when_o jesus_n christ_n the_o saviour_n of_o mankind_n come_v into_o the_o world_n for_o this_o very_a end_n and_o purpose_n that_o he_o may_v be_v a_o redeemer_n unto_o man_n it_o be_v say_v that_o speak_v to_o in_o matt._n 18.10_o take_v heed_n that_o they_o offend_v not_o any_o of_o those_o little_a one_o that_o believe_v in_o he_o for_o say_v he_o in_o heaven_n their_o angel_n do_v always_o behold_v the_o face_n of_o my_o father_n which_o be_v in_o heaven_n and_o that_o the_o angel_n do_v protect_v and_o defend_v the_o people_n of_o god_n here_o be_v very_o clear_a in_o psal_n 34.7_o the_o angel_n of_o the_o lord_n encamp_v round_o about_o they_o that_o fear_v he_o and_o deliver_v they_o and_o that_o be_v a_o great_a scripture_n and_o add_v much_o to_o the_o confirmation_n of_o the_o happiness_n of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n both_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o fellowship_n with_o the_o saint_n and_o their_o communion_n with_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n in_o heb._n 12.22_o 23._o you_o be_v come_v unto_o mount_n zion_n the_o city_n of_o the_o live_a god_n the_o heavenly_a jerusalem_n and_o to_o a_o innumerable_a company_n of_o angel_n and_o to_o the_o spirit_n of_o just_a man_n make_v perfect_a while_o we_o carry_v about_o with_o we_o these_o earthly_a tabernacle_n of_o our_o body_n we_o be_v scarce_o capable_a of_o communication_n with_o such_o spiritual_a shall_v enjoy_v in_o heaven_n and_o a_o truth_n of_o great_a certainty_n yet_o the_o way_n and_o manner_n of_o the_o saint_n converse_v with_o they_o there_o be_v very_o dark_a and_o obscure_a and_o that_o to_o which_o we_o be_v now_o altogether_o stranger_n let_v therefore_o the_o certainty_n thereof_o suppress_v our_o curiosity_n and_o satisfy_v our_o mind_n until_o we_o come_v thither_o when_o we_o shall_v have_v a_o full_a revelation_n and_o enjoyment_n thereof_o together_o be_v make_v not_o only_o like_a unto_o but_o equal_a with_o the_o angel_n three_o the_o happiness_n of_o the_o saint_n in_o heaven_n lie_v in_o this_o that_o there_o they_o shall_v have_v a_o sight_n and_o enjoyment_n of_o jesus_n christ_n as_o their_o bless_a and_o glorious_a redeemet_n now_o this_o be_v a_o happiness_n so_o great_a that_o a_o saint_n can_v but_o account_v himself_o recompense_v with_o infinite_a gain_n and_o advantage_n though_o he_o lose_v his_o life_n in_o the_o attain_n of_o it_o will_v be_v so_o great_a a_o happiness_n to_o the_o saint_n in_o heaven_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v in_o general_a there_o be_v in_o god_n every_o thing_n that_o can_v make_v a_o man_n perfect_o bless_v and_o happy_a it_o be_v beyond_o all_o disputation_n that_o the_o happiness_n of_o man_n must_v be_v that_o which_o be_v good_a for_o that_o which_o be_v evil_a in_o itself_o be_v not_o nor_o can_v be_v desire_v as_o such_o by_o any_o rational_a creature_n much_o less_o propose_v by_o he_o as_o his_o ultimate_a end_n no_o the_o object_n of_o man_n happiness_n must_v be_v something_o that_o be_v good_a nor_o yet_o be_v it_o any_o good_a that_o will_v make_v a_o man_n complete_o happy_a neither_o but_o it_o must_v be_v a_o good_a in_o which_o all_o good_a be_v contain_v now_o such_o a_o more_o desirable_a himself_o it_o be_v god_n prerogative_n alone_o that_o he_o be_v eminent_o good_a and_o altogether_o good_a and_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a be_v in_o he_o and_o sure_o if_o god_n be_v so_o good_a to_o his_o people_n in_o the_o enjoyment_n he_o vouchsafe_v to_o they_o here_o when_o they_o have_v but_o some_o small_a taste_n of_o his_o bounty_n and_o goodness_n o_o how_o good_a will_v he_o be_v to_o they_o immediate_o by_o himself_o in_o heaven_n and_o this_o be_v that_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n which_o manifest_v it_o to_o be_v so_o great_a a_o happiness_n to_o the_o we_o to_o fear_v the_o loss_n of_o all_o earthly_a enjoyment_n and_o possible_o it_o may_v be_v necessary_a that_o god_n shall_v suffer_v such_o fear_n to_o prevail_v upon_o we_o that_o worldly_a of_o happiness_n than_o the_o soul_n be_v able_a to_o receive_v or_o bear_v and_o as_o this_o happiness_n be_v full_a and_o satisfactory_a so_o be_v it_o also_o secure_a it_o be_v a_o happiness_n that_o can_v be_v lose_v the_o gate_n of_o the_o new_a jerusalem_n that_o be_v of_o heaven_n be_v therefore_o say_v to_o stand_v open_a to_o show_v there_o be_v no_o fear_n of_o any_o enemy_n approach_v to_o take_v away_o the_o happiness_n of_o a_o saint_n there_o god_n will_v never_o take_v away_o the_o happiness_n of_o a_o saint_n from_o he_o the_o devil_n nor_o sin_n can_v take_v it_o
