not_o believe_v the_o law_n in_o this_o particularâ—_n though_o the_o law_n give_v witness_n to_o the_o way_n of_o believe_v yet_o they_o will_v understand_v the_o law_n as_o give_v testimony_n rather_o to_o its_o own_o way_n of_o justification_n now_o to_o set_v home_o this_o conviction_n and_o reprehension_n consider_v that_o there_o be_v these_o four_o great_a iniquity_n find_v in_o a_o legal_a spirit_n 1._o a_o horrible_a perverseness_n and_o self-willednefs_a when_o god_n will_v have_v they_o go_v one_o way_n they_o will_v go_v another_o 〈◊〉_d right_a cousness_n of_o god_n be_v great_a deal_n more_o which_o be_v not_o fit_a to_o be_v express_v must_v lie_v as_o in_o the_o seed_n and_o in_o the_o root_n in_o a_o legal_a spirit_n though_o perhaps_o it_o may_v never_o come_v in_o second-table-duty_n and_o indeed_o i_o think_v that_o be_v a_o worse_a kind_n of_o legality_n for_o it_o be_v usual_o attend_v with_o more_o wickedness_n than_o when_o man_n take_v up_o with_o who_o be_v not_o high_a devotionists_n nor_o in_o any_o excess_n superstitious_a yet_o use_v no_o great_a endeavour_n to_o get_v to_o heaven_n be_v at_o no_o pain_n with_o their_o heart_n to_o get_v in_o grace_n to_o cast_v out_o lust_n to_o get_v the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n find_v no_o difficulty_n in_o religion_n understand_v it_o not_o at_o all_o to_o be_v a_o warfare_n a_o will_v cry_v god_n mercy_n for_o their_o fin_n in_o a_o general_a way_n and_o with_o a_o lord_n have_v mercy_n upon_o they_o they_o make_v no_o doubt_n to_o get_v to_o heaven_n now_o these_o must_v lay_v the_o stress_n of_o their_o hope_n and_o expectation_n upon_o this_o that_o they_o wrong_v no_o man_n they_o have_v give_v every_o man_n his_o own_o and_o perhaps_o have_v have_v some_o duty_n morning_n and_o evening_n in_o their_o family_n and_o therefore_o that_o he_o that_o make_v they_o may_v well_o afford_v to_o save_v they_o here_o these_o man_n trust_v upon_o a_o conformity_n to_o some_o second_o table_n duty_n and_o a_o slighty_a performance_n of_o some_o duty_n of_o the_o first_o table_n by_o what_o i_o have_v say_v i_o suppose_v man_n may_v examine_v themselves_o whether_o they_o be_v guilty_a of_o predominant_a legality_n by_o rest_v upon_o a_o
will_v not_o like_o this_o neither_o and_o it_o be_v because_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o creature_n to_o serve_v its_o creator_n whether_o he_o promise_v any_o reward_n or_o no._n now_o this_o will_v not_o look_v neither_o like_a a_o gospel-principle_n be_v the_o very_a law_n of_o creation_n well_o then_o what_o principle_n will_v they_o suggest_v for_o gospel-principle_n why_o such_o as_o these_o love_n and_o ingenuity_n and_o gratitude_n and_o apprehend_v a_o excellency_n in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n now_o i_o confess_v these_o be_v good_a principle_n and_o these_o be_v right_a gospel-principle_n the_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v love_n and_o we_o love_v he_o because_o he_o love_v we_o first_o 1_o john_n 4.19_o which_o be_v gratitude_n shall_v we_o continue_v in_o sin_n because_o we_o be_v not_o under_o the_o law_n but_o under_o grace_n and_o that_o so_o grace_n may_v abound_v god_n forbid_v this_o be_v high_o disingenuons_a rom._n 6.1.15_o and_o in_o keep_v thy_o commandment_n there_o be_v great_a reward_n psal_n 19.11_o there_o be_v a_o sight_n of_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o precept_n but_o pray_v observe_v that_o where_o nobleness_n and_o ingenuity_n be_v the_o only_a principle_n of_o action_n there_o be_v no_o necessity_n for_o any_o thing_n to_o be_v do_v at_o all_o for_o action_n of_o nobleness_n and_o ingenuity_n and_o gratitude_n come_v under_o no_o law_n but_o be_v leave_v free_a to_o the_o agent_n to_o do_v or_o not_o to_o do_v only_o that_o hereby_o as_o he_o do_v they_o or_o not_o the_o agent_n will_v discover_v whether_o he_o be_v of_o a_o unworthy_a spirit_n or_o no._n and_o thus_o these_o man_n have_v bring_v thing_n to_o a_o fair_a pass_n that_o god_n be_v to_o be_v serve_v under_o the_o gospel_n only_o upon_o courtesy_n so_o that_o any_o that_o will_v may_v slip_v their_o neck_n out_o of_o christ_n yoke_n and_o their_o back_n from_o under_o his_o burden_n or_o else_o they_o must_v acknowledge_v that_o man_n ought_v to_o serve_v god_n because_o there_o be_v a_o must_v upon_o it_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n as_o creature_n if_o we_o will_v not_o there_o be_v a_o hell_n to_o punish_v but_o to_o think_v he_o have_v no_o other_o and_o that_o he_o may_v have_v all_o these_o in_o a_o degree_n viz._n the_o sense_n of_o his_o obligation_n as_o a_o creature_n the_o fear_n of_o hell_n and_o some_o general_a hope_n of_o heaven_n i_o say_v what_o if_o he_o may_v have_v all_o these_o principle_n be_v they_o evertheless_o good_a or_o unsuitable_a to_o the_o gospel_n because_o he_o use_v they_o if_o he_o use_v they_o to_o good_a end_n or_o use_v they_o aright_o they_o will_v do_v he_o good_a as_o well_o as_o they_o do_v other_o good_a the_o reason_n why_o these_o do_v he_o no_o good_a be_v for_o courtify_v or_o at_o least_o stand_v not_o in_o any_o need_n to_o receive_v courtesy_n will_v yet_o do_v no_o good_a turn_n for_o any_o without_o a_o good_a reward_n in_o his_o hand_n or_o well_o among_o equal_n and_o those_o that_o stand_v not_o in_o need_n of_o one_o another_o as_o for_o those_o that_o be_v far_o inferior_a it_o be_v pride_n with_o they_o to_o be_v unwilling_a to_o receive_v courresy_n or_o reward_n for_o wherefore_o be_v any_o advance_v in_o place_n but_o that_o they_o may_v do_v good_a to_o those_o that_o be_v below_o they_o it_o be_v no_o dishonour_n at_o all_o for_o if_o christ_n be_v sacrifice_v for_o we_o as_o our_o passover_n we_o need_v not_o fear_v if_o we_o have_v the_o gospel-condition_n of_o covenant-relation_n to_o god_n in_o christ_n but_o the_o
