shall_v reason_v thus_o well_o if_o there_o be_v such_o a_o mystery_n in_o pardon_n of_o sin_n and_o that_o god_n when_o he_o pardon_v sin_n at_o first_o lay_v in_o a_o pardon_n for_o all_o sin_n afterward_o this_o will_v make_v way_n for_o more_o sin_n take_v notice_n here_o of_o the_o infinite_a perverseness_n of_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n suppose_v it_o be_v not_o thus_o but_o the_o time_n in_o sin_v against_o god_n but_o when_o they_o be_v lie_v upon_o their_o sick-bed_n and_o deathbed_n lord_n have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o pardon_v i_o forgive_v i_o a_o wicked_a wretch_n that_o i_o have_v be_v these_o kind_n of_o word_n we_o hear_v from_o man_n at_o that_o time_n o_o that_o god_n will_v forgive_v and_o pardon_v such_o and_o such_o sin_n and_o then_o perhaps_o they_o will_v tell_v some_o particular_a sin_n if_o they_o think_v they_o shall_v die_v they_o will_v open_v themselves_o to_o the_o minister_n or_o to_o some_o faithful_a neighbour_n in_o the_o disclose_v of_o their_o particular_a sin_n and_o beseech_v they_o to_o pray_v to_o god_n for_o mercy_n but_o if_o they_o have_v any_o hope_n to_o escape_v they_o will_v keep_v they_o in_o and_o be_v loath_a to_o rip_v open_a the_o sin_n of_o their_o life_n this_o i_o say_v for_o any_o to_o put_v off_o the_o seek_n unto_o god_n for_o his_o pardon_v grace_n till_o that_o time_n it_o be_v to_o put_v a_o great_a dishonour_n upon_o god_n for_o it_o be_v a_o put_n of_o it_o off_o to_o the_o worst_a time_n that_o possible_a can_v be_v and_o that_o make_v much_o to_o the_o dishonour_n of_o god_n for_o first_o those_o man_n seek_v pardon_n of_o sin_n when_o sin_n be_v leave_v they_o or_o they_o must_v leave_v sin_n whether_o they_o will_v or_o no_o when_o you_o have_v serve_v your_o own_o turn_n of_o sin_n after_o you_o have_v have_v as_o much_o suppose_a pleasure_n as_o you_o can_v than_o you_o think_v to_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o guilt_n and_o punishment_n of_o sin_n what_o be_v there_o but_o a_o mere_a selfish_a spirit_n in_o seek_v god_n now_o and_o god_n see_v it_o so_o it_o be_v not_o seek_v after_o pardon_n of_o sin_n that_o you_o may_v honour_n god_n in_o his_o infinite_a grace_n for_o than_o you_o will_v seek_v after_o it_o now_o and_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n will_v be_v dear_a to_o you_o now_o but_o you_o seek_v it_o at_o such_o a_o time_n mere_o out_o of_o respect_n to_o yourselves_o this_o be_v a_o great_a dishonour_n to_o god_n it_o be_v the_o first_o bear_v of_o god_n glory_n to_o pardon_v sin_n and_o for_o god_n to_o see_v man_n and_o woman_n have_v no_o high_a end_n in_o seek_v pardon_v grace_n but_o mere_o to_o save_v their_o own_o skin_n how_o may_v god_n look_v upon_o they_o with_o disdain_n what_o shall_v i_o magnify_v the_o riches_n of_o my_o grace_n so_o wonderful_o in_o this_o work_n of_o
my_o pardon_v mercy_n and_o shall_v my_o creature_n seek_v after_o it_o for_o no_o other_o end_n nor_o high_a aim_n but_o mere_o to_o save_v their_o own_o skin_n you_o bring_v down_o the_o grace_n that_o he_o will_v grant_v mercy_n in_o the_o day_n of_o wrath_n while_o you_o be_v alive_a and_o have_v liberty_n health_n and_o opportunity_n to_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o justification_n of_o a_o sinner_n and_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n open_v you_o be_v to_o know_v it_o be_v the_o day_n of_o god_n grace_n now_o be_v the_o acceptable_a time_n now_o be_v the_o day_n of_o salvation_n and_o of_o grace_n when_o god_n give_v liberty_n and_o opportunity_n thus_o to_o have_v the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n open_v unto_o you_o this_o be_v the_o day_n of_o god_n grace_n now_o if_o god_n deny_v you_o grace_n in_o this_o day_n of_o mercy_n that_o you_o be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o enlighten_v your_o soul_n melt_v and_o your_o heart_n stir_v do_v you_o think_v that_o be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o it_o require_v the_o great_a intenseness_n and_o strength_n of_o a_o man_n spirit_n that_o ever_o any_o work_n do_v now_o then_o to_o put_v this_o off_o till_o such_o a_o time_n as_o a_o man_n strength_n be_v go_v and_o he_o through_o disease_n unfit_a for_o any_o thing_n and_o when_o as_o all_o the_o strength_n he_o have_v will_v be_v little_a enough_o to_o help_v he_o to_o bear_v his_o pain_n this_o must_v needs_o be_v the_o worst_a time_n you_o be_v mistake_v if_o you_o think_v the_o apply_v of_o god_n mercy_n in_o christ_n be_v but_o in_o say_v lord_n have_v mercy_n upon_o i_o no_o it_o be_v god_n put_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n to_o do_v the_o most_o glorious_a work_n that_o have_v the_o great_a operation_n in_o it_o that_o ever_o he_o do_v i_o remember_v it_o relate_v of_o one_o that_o live_v wicked_o and_o divers_a seek_v to_o reclaim_v he_o say_v he_o come_v when_o i_o be_o upon_o my_o sick_a bed_n that_o be_v time_n enough_o and_o afterward_o he_o be_v sick_a be_v put_v in_o mind_n of_o it_o you_o say_v you_o will_v do_v it_o then_o but_o then_o he_o swear_v a_o great_a oath_n say_v what_o be_v this_o a_o time_n to_o repent_v in_o because_o he_o then_o feel_v so_o much_o trouble_v and_o anguish_n that_o take_v up_o his_o thought_n that_o he_o be_v stir_v with_o indignation_n to_o be_v put_v upon_o repent_v then_o in_o a_o time_n when_o he_o feel_v so_o much_o dolour_n of_o spirit_n by_o the_o pain_n that_o be_v upon_o he_o be_v this_o a_o time_n to_o repent_v in_o if_o that_o be_v not_o then_o do_v it_o betimes_o 4._o it_o be_v the_o worst_a time_n because_o god_n shall_v lose_v a_o great_a part_n of_o his_o end_n in_o pardon_v sin_n for_o when_o god_n pardon_v sin_n it_o be_v to_o this_o end_n that_o his_o poor_a creature_n may_v honour_v and_o worship_v he_o in_o â—his_fw-la world_n and_o do_v he_o service_n but_o now_o to_o seek_v for_o god_n pardon_v grace_n when_o thou_o can_v do_v he_o no_o more_o service_n in_o this_o world_n how_o can_v thou_o think_v that_o he_o will_v accept_v thou_o then_o he_o come_v to_o redeem_v we_o that_o we_o may_v serve_v he_o in_o holiness_n and_o righteousness_n all_o the_o day_n of_o our_o life_n and_o he_o know_v there_o be_v no_o such_o way_n to_o engage_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n to_o serve_v he_o as_o pardon_v grace_n for_o when_o once_o a_o soul_n see_v itself_o deliver_v from_o those_o enemy_n of_o sin_n and_o of_o the_o law_n that_o will_v destroy_v he_o his_o heart_n will_v be_v mighty_o set_v to_o honour_n god_n and_o serve_v he_o in_o holiness_n and_o righteousness_n all_o his_o day_n and_o therefore_o to_o seek_v for_o pardon_v when_o thou_o can_v do_v god_n no_o more_o service_n in_o this_o world_n must_v needs_o be_v the_o worst_a time_n for_o how_o know_v thou_o that_o he_o will_v accept_v thou_o then_o i_o beseech_v you_o observe_v one_o text_n of_o scripture_n that_o be_v abuse_v by_o many_o people_n for_o i_o suppose_v that_o i_o be_o mistake_v that_o be_v the_o main_a prop_n of_o many_o carnal_a heart_n as_o it_o be_v read_v in_o some_o book_n at_o what_o time_n soever_o a_o sinner_n repent_v etc._n etc._n i_o know_v no_o such_o hypocrite_n joy_n yes_o certain_o a_o hypocrite_n may_v have_v wonderful_a ravishment_n of_o spirit_n and_o flash_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n but_o yet_o there_o be_v somewhat_o want_v in_o other_o grace_n but_o how_o shall_v i_o know_v that_o my_o assurance_n of_o pardon_n of_o sin_n be_v right_a thus_o according_a to_o the_o degree_n you_o have_v of_o assurance_n of_o pardon_n you_o have_v a_o answerable_a degree_n in_o the_o growth_n of_o other_o grace_n as_o humility_n patience_n heavenly-mindedness_a self-denial_n and_o the_o rest_n according_a as_o your_o faith_n grow_v so_o you_o have_v a_o proportionable_a growth_n in_o all_o other_o grace_n faith_n be_v as_o the_o root_n and_o the_o more_o sap_n there_o be_v in_o the_o root_n the_o more_o will_v the_o branch_n grow_v those_o people_n that_o be_v so_o full_a of_o assurance_n and_o never_o doubt_v as_o they_o say_v but_o as_o for_o other_o grace_n they_o be_v empty_a as_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n meekness_n patience_n self-denial_n heavenly-mindedness_a and_o the_o like_a certain_o if_o thy_o faith_n be_v so_o high_a and_o thy_o other_o grace_n so_o low_a thou_o have_v much_o cause_n to_o fear_v thy_o faith_n be_v many_o distemper_n and_o many_o wander_n in_o my_o soul_n give_v i_o leave_v to_o ask_v you_o this_o where_o do_v god_n word_n say_v that_o such_o a_o man_n that_o have_v a_o great_a many_o wander_a thought_n be_v not_o justify_v where_o do_v the_o word_n of_o god_n say_v that_o a_o heart_n that_o be_v under_o the_o remainder_n of_o some_o corruption_n and_o the_o soul_n labour_v under_o they_o as_o much_o as_o under_o any_o burden_n in_o the_o world_n where_o do_v the_o word_n say_v that_o that_o soul_n be_v not_o justify_v many_o people_n in_o the_o case_n of_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n although_o they_o have_v some_o evidence_n and_o good_a ground_n out_o of_o the_o word_n for_o they_o yet_o will_v have_v many_o fear_n and_o doubt_n because_o of_o the_o remainder_n of_o such_o and_o such_o corruption_n in_o they_o but_o now_o the_o ground_n of_o their_o doubt_n be_v their_o own_o fear_n and_o nothing_o out_o of_o the_o word_n and_o so_o when_o any_o speak_v and_o apply_v the_o word_n unto_o they_o they_o can_v say_v but_o it_o be_v suitable_a to_o their_o condition_n and_o that_o god_n have_v show_v mercy_n unto_o they_o but_o so_o soon_o as_o you_o be_v go_v the_o fear_n and_o suggestion_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n prevail_v against_o they_o to_o take_v away_o all_o their_o comfort_n more_o than_o all_o the_o application_n of_o the_o word_n prevail_v to_o uphold_v &_o continue_v their_o comfort_n it_o be_v just_a with_o many_o that_o be_v gracious_a in_o the_o case_n of_o fear_n and_o doubt_n as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o wicked_a in_o regard_n of_o their_o hope_n a_o wicked_a man_n have_v the_o word_n against_o he_o that_o he_o be_v not_o in_o a_o good_a condition_n but_o his_o own_o self-love_n and_o conce_n encourage_v he_o to_o presume_v that_o he_o be_v in_o a_o good_a estate_n now_o he_o regard_v his_o own_o opinion_n and_o conceit_n and_o presume_v upon_o that_o that_o his_o estate_n be_v good_a more_o than_o on_o whatsoever_o be_v say_v unto_o he_o out_o of_o the_o word_n that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o so_o the_o people_n of_o god_n although_o they_o be_v in_o a_o good_a estate_n yet_o their_o own_o fear_n so_o damp_n their_o heart_n that_o make_v they_o question_v that_o it_o be_v not_o so_o but_o the_o ground_n of_o it_o be_v their_o own_o fear_n as_o the_o ground_n of_o the_o wicked_a in_o think_v their_o estate_n be_v good_a be_v from_o their_o own_o opinion_n so_o the_o people_n of_o god_n many_o time_n from_o their_o own_o conceit_n and_o opinion_n rather_o than_o from_o the_o word_n think_v their_o estate_n be_v bad_a take_v this_o rule_n as_o you_o must_v receive_v no_o comfort_n but_o out_o of_o the_o word_n so_o you_o must_v not_o receive_v any_o trouble_n but_o from_o the_o word_n when_o you_o receive_v trouble_v any_o other_o way_n you_o do_v not_o consider_v that_o god_n have_v lay_v your_o estate_n so_o high_a that_o all_o your_o trouble_n depend_v on_o nothing_o but_o the_o word_n and_o therefore_o answer_v all_o with_o scripture_n when_o the_o devil_n cast_v temptation_n before_o thou_o bid_v he_o prove_v that_o thy_o estate_n be_v not_o good_a from_o the_o word_n i_o have_v this_o out_o of_o the_o word_n to_o prove_v it_o be_v so_o and_o thou_o have_v nothing_o to_o the_o contrary_a in_o other_o thing_n you_o will_v not_o be_v baffle_v as_o in_o your_o evidence_n for_o your_o estate_n suppose_v a_o man_n come_v and_o lie_v claim_v unto_o it_o although_o you_o can_v perhaps_o make_v out_o your_o title_n clear_a yet_o you_o will_v bid_v he_o prove_v the_o contrary_a and_o show_v what_o ground_n he_o have_v to_o lay_v claim_n to_o it_o it_o be_v not_o the_o clamour_n and_o talk_v of_o other_o man_n that_o will_v make_v you_o quit_v your_o hold_n or_o satisfy_v you_o that_o it_o be_v never_o right_o you_o but_o let_v the_o devil_n come_v and_o clamour_v against_o your_o soul_n and_o you_o be_v ready_a to_o join_v with_o he_o and_o say_v it_o be_v so_o indeed_o i_o be_o a_o hypocrite_n and_o i_o have_v no_o true_a grace_n nor_o spiritual_a life_n my_o soul_n be_v under_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n and_o dominion_n of_o sin_n still_o how_o unworthy_a do_v you_o carry_v it_o to_o the_o bless_a spirit_n of_o god_n and_o all_o the_o grace_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n that_o have_v be_v manifest_v and_o make_v know_v unto_o you_o concern_v the_o pardon_n of_o your_o sin_n how_o unbefitting_a be_v it_o that_o on_o every_o clamour_n of_o satan_n and_o stir_v of_o corruption_n in_o your_o own_o heart_n that_o you_o shall_v raze_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o your_o comfort_n by_o call_v all_o the_o work_n of_o god_n present_o into_o question_n many_o a_o poor_a creature_n that_o find_v by_o evidence_n out_o of_o the_o word_n that_o their_o estate_n be_v good_a they_o go_v away_o cheerful_a but_o if_o the_o next_o day_n there_o be_v any_o stir_n of_o corruption_n they_o let_v go_v all_o and_o raze_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o their_o comfort_n walk_v not_o so_o unworthy_a of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n depend_v upon_o the_o word_n as_o for_o your_o trouble_n so_o for_o your_o comfort_n as_o you_o be_v not_o comfort_v with_o any_o thing_n but_o from_o what_o the_o word_n of_o god_n speak_v to_o you_o so_o be_v discourage_v with_o nothing_o but_o where_o you_o find_v the_o word_n of_o god_n against_o you_o the_o five_o rule_n be_v this_o when_o at_o any_o time_n you_o be_v put_v to_o seek_v your_o evidence_n and_o can_v find_v they_o the_o best_a way_n be_v rather_o to_o renew_v than_o to_o spend_v time_n in_o find_v of_o the_o old_a as_o suppose_v any_o man_n or_o woman_n be_v search_v out_o such_o evidence_n for_o salvation_n which_o they_o have_v before_o and_o can_v find_v they_o it_o may_v be_v they_o be_v pore_v upon_o their_o own_o heart_n for_o such_o and_o such_o work_n as_o they_o have_v have_v heretofore_o and_o can_v find_v they_o and_o so_o be_v ready_a to_o conclude_v that_o all_o be_v naught_o and_o lie_v down_o as_o people_n disconsolate_a because_o their_o condition_n be_v not_o good_a they_o can_v find_v such_o evidence_n as_o heretofore_o they_o have_v now_o in_o this_o case_n the_o best_a way_n be_v if_o i_o can_v find_v my_o evidence_n or_o the_o use_n of_o they_o i_o have_v before_o to_o renew_v they_o the_o time_n i_o spend_v in_o seek_v and_o discourage_v of_o my_o heart_n if_o i_o spend_v it_o in_o act_n and_o work_n of_o my_o heart_n after_o god_n for_o the_o renew_n of_o my_o evidence_n perhaps_o i_o may_v have_v renew_v they_o in_o that_o time_n as_o in_o matter_n between_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o this_o world_n they_o have_v evidence_n that_o will_v clear_v the_o matter_n in_o difference_n but_o perhaps_o they_o can_v find_v they_o or_o they_o be_v grow_v so_o old_a that_o they_o can_v read_v they_o and_o they_o spend_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o time_n about_o they_o whereas_o possible_o do_v they_o go_v to_o the_o court_n of_o roles_n they_o may_v have_v they_o renew_v with_o less_o charge_n and_o time_n so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o soul_n when_o it_o can_v find_v such_o and_o such_o evidence_n it_o spend_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o time_n and_o sit_v down_o in_o discouragement_n and_o disquietness_n of_o heart_n when_o as_o perhaps_o in_o less_o time_n thou_o may_v have_v renew_v they_o as_o thus_o suppose_v thou_o be_v look_v after_o this_o evidence_n of_o thy_o call_v for_o god_n call_v who_o he_o justify_v now_o thou_o be_v look_v after_o thy_o call_n and_o thou_o be_v trouble_v that_o thou_o do_v not_o remember_v how_o god_n do_v work_v upon_o
