to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance The Gospel S. Matt. 5. 16. may see your good works and glorifie your Father which is in heaven Lay not up for your selves treasures upon S. Matt. 6. 19 20. earth where moth and rust doth corrupt and where thieves break through and steal but lay up for your selves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt and where thieves do not break through nor steal Let us pray for the whole state of Christs Church militant here on earth ALmighty and everliving God who by thy holy Apostle hast taught us to make prayers and supplications and to give thanks for all men We humbly beseech thee most mercifully to accept our alms and oblations and to receive these our prayers which we offer unto If there be no alms or oblations then shall the words of accepting our alms and oblatious be left out unsaid thy divine Majesty beseeching thee to inspire continually the Vniversal Church with the spirit of truth unity and concord and grant that all they that do confess thy holy Name may agree in the truth of thy holy Word and live in unity and godly love We beseech thee also to save and defend all Christian Kings Princes and Governours and especially thy servant CHARLES our King that under him we may be godly and quietly governed And grant unto his whole Council to all that are put in Authority under him that they may truly and indifferently minister justice to the punishment of wickedness and vice and to the maintenance of thy true Religion and vertue Give grace O heavenly Father to all Bishops and Curates that they may both by their life and doctrine set forth thy true and lively Word and rightly and duely administer thy holy Sacraments And to all thy people give thy heavenly grace and especially to this Congregation here present that with meek heart and due reverence they may hear and receive thy holy Word truly serving thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of their life And we most humbly beseech thee of thy goodness O Lord to comfort and succour all them who in this transitory life are in trouble sorrow need sickness or any other adversity And we also bless thy holy Name for all thy servants departed this life in thy faith and fear beseeching thee to give us grace so to follow their good examples that with them we may be partakers of thy heavenly kingdom Grant this O Father for Iesus Christs sake our only Mediatour and Advocate Amen ¶ Then shall be added the prayers following WE humbly acknowledge before thee O merciful Father that all the punishments threatned in thy Law against sinners might justly fall upon us by reason of our manifold transgressions and especially our great unthankfulness for thy unspeakable mercies towards us But though our crying sins call aloud for thy wrath and vengeance to be poured down upon us yet there is mercy with thee O Lord that thou mayest be feared and with thee our God there is plenteous Redemption Oh enter not into Iudgement with thy servants For if thou shouldest be extreme to mark what we have done amiss O Lord who will be able to abide it At the Footstool of the Throne of thy Grace we prastrate our souls and bodies with fasting tears and supplications Look down graciously upon us we humbly beseech thee from the habitation of thy Holiness and of thy Glory and for the all-satisfying Death and Passion of thy blessed Son accept this our unfeigned Submission and Humiliation O deliver us from all our sins and then our enemies cannot hurt us Let us ever remember what thou hast so strictly enjoyn'd That when y Deut. 23.
