endurance_n of_o those_o thing_n and_o be_v yet_o no_o true_a partaker_n of_o that_o baptism_n with_o which_o the_o captain_n of_o my_o salvation_n be_v make_v perfect_a if_o i_o find_v not_o myself_o still_o ready_a for_o fresh_a encounter_n and_o that_o out_o of_o sense_n of_o duty_n and_o public_a regard_n as_o one_o that_o be_v strengthen_v with_o all_o might_n according_a to_o his_o glorious_a power_n unto_o all_o patience_n and_o long-suffering_a with_o joyfulness_n but_o do_v now_o hide_v or_o cloister_n up_o myself_o from_o be_v any_o more_o public_o beneficial_a to_o other_o 1.11_o examine_v the_o ground_n of_o this_o too_o it_o will_v be_v find_v ground_v on_o nature_n also_o even_o although_o it_o shall_v be_v so_o strong_a as_o to_o submit_v to_o martyrdom_n for_o since_o i_o in_o another_o religion_n or_o another_o in_o i_o may_v have_v so_o die_v have_v we_o be_v so_o bring_v up_o it_o can_v in_o itself_o evidence_n little_a of_o the_o truth_n of_o that_o duty_n we_o profess_v but_o oftentimes_o may_v have_v issue_n from_o peevishness_n or_o stubbornness_n without_o respect_n to_o love_n or_o obedience_n and_o certain_o to_o suffer_v for_o disobedience_n to_o regeneration_n for_o this_o also_o may_v proceed_v from_o natural_a propension_n and_o respect_v to_o honour_n and_o thanks_o may_v make_v we_o charitable_a as_o well_o as_o martyr_n whereas_o he_o that_o be_v the_o true_a christian_a and_o fit_v with_o grace_n of_o regeneration_n be_v never_o slothful_a but_o stand_v always_o diligent_a in_o work_n and_o labour_n of_o love_n 6.12.11.10_o because_o god_n who_o be_v not_o unrighteous_a will_v not_o forget_v to_o be_v continual_o assist_v he_o with_o his_o grace_n of_o perseverance_n here_o or_o reward_v hereafter_o therefore_o

we_o before_o touch_v how_o the_o different_a perfection_n of_o creature_n arise_v from_o the_o different_a nearness_n to_o divine_a resemblance_n and_o that_o the_o whole_a creation_n take_v effect_v out_o of_o god_n intention_n to_o express_v his_o goodness_n and_o reap_v thereby_o due_a praise_n and_o glory_n and_o that_o this_o difference_n of_o participation_n and_o resemblance_n appear_v pleasant_a and_o that_o goodness_n may_v be_v have_v where_o pleasure_n be_v not_o their_o mistake_n arise_v from_o the_o observation_n that_o since_o many_o man_n and_o creature_n take_v often_o positive_a or_o perfect_a degree_n of_o goodness_n but_o it_o be_v in_o they_o comparative_a only_o even_o according_a to_o that_o serviceableness_n they_o yield_v to_o other_o thing_n as_o for_o food_n clothing_n or_o other_o use_n therefore_o the_o measure_n of_o good_a receive_v from_o any_o thing_n must_v be_v rate_v according_a to_o the_o relish_n entertainment_n and_o serviceableness_n it_o find_v in_o the_o receiver_n which_o must_v make_v it_o good_a or_o not_o for_o if_o by_o good_a we_o understand_v what_o be_v commodious_a and_o necessary_a for_o the_o preserve_n and_o perfect_v our_o nature_n without_o regard_n whether_o it_o be_v pleasant_a or_o not_o see_v we_o not_o how_o they_o take_v away_o the_o use_n of_o sense_n and_o reason_n and_o make_v the_o felicity_n of_o live_a creature_n not_o to_o exceed_v that_o of_o stone_n and_o other_o inanimate_v for_o these_o have_v this_o felicity_n confer_v on_o they_o with_o great_a constancy_n and_o assurance_n than_o sensitive_n and_o if_o such_o kind_n of_o passive_a or_o negative_a happiness_n can_v dignify_v will_v be_v more_o excellent_a of_o the_o two_o whereas_o they_o have_v no_o apprehension_n relish_n or_o delight_n in_o what_o they_o do_v we_o may_v just_o account_v they_o excel_v by_o creature_n of_o sense_n as_o they_o be_v again_o by_o man_n surpass_v they_o all_o in_o the_o variety_n and_o vigour_n of_o his_o enjoyment_n as_o for_o instance_n in_o that_o intellectual_a pleasure_n of_o honour_n wherein_o man_n seem_v so_o delight_v as_o if_o he_o be_v a_o second_o deity_n they_o have_v either_o none_o or_o small_a apprehension_n their_o ear_n be_v not_o capable_a of_o harmony_n or_o the_o sweetness_n of_o eloquence_n nor_o their_o eye_n delight_v with_o colour_n figure_n method_n etc._n etc._n they_o want_v also_o many_o variety_n of_o taste_n and_o smell_n which_o we_o possess_v and_o in_o a_o word_n as_o man_n have_v brain_n the_o root_n of_o sense_n in_o great_a quaintity_n good_a in_o both_o kind_n be_v but_o in_o respect_n it_o be_v the_o way_n to_o what_o be_v pleasant_a afterward_o for_o the_o appetite_n follow_v pleasure_n as_o her_o general_a end_n and_o prefer_v the_o great_a to_o the_o less_o by_o the_o help_n of_o reason_n find_v that_o in_o these_o and_o like_a case_n this_o end_n be_v not_o otherwise_o attainable_a for_o this_o last_a pleasure_n of_o health_n do_v far_o countervail_v the_o temporary_a suffering_n of_o physic_n and_o the_o reward_n of_o heaven_n any_o momentany_a punishment_n and_o in_o both_o case_n prove_v not_o the_o avoidance_n but_o pursuit_n of_o pleasure_n for_o be_v any_o thing_n pleasant_a to_o the_o taste_n for_o other_o cause_n eschew_v but_o out_o of_o fear_n of_o some_o other_o detriment_n nor_o can_v we_o make_v a_o atheist_n forbear_v his_o pleasure_n when_o the_o terror_n of_o shame_n or_o the_o law_n be_v off_o he_o or_o the_o glutton_n his_o appetite_n in_o any_o thing_n which_o fear_n of_o sickness_n how_o can_v any_o be_v suppose_v to_o be_v so_o equal_o and_o universal_o interest_v as_o the_o prince_n how_o will_v they_o have_v this_o liberty_n stint_v both_o for_o person_n and_o cause_n and_o who_o shall_v be_v superior_a to_o see_v it_o on_o all_o hand_n perform_v will_v they_o allow_v subject_n indefinite_o to_o have_v power_n herein_o as_o they_o themselves_o shall_v see_v cause_n obligation_n above_o those_o of_o ordinary_a condition_n to_o the_o end_n that_o as_o their_o power_n and_o eminence_n do_v increase_v above_o other_o below_o so_o their_o gratitude_n upward_o shall_v increase_v also_o for_o as_o every_o workman_n be_v himself_o express_v in_o his_o work_n and_o have_v his_o goodness_n power_n and_o skill_n make_v apparent_a by_o the_o general_a perfection_n of_o than_o another_o so_o have_v they_o also_o more_o variety_n of_o degree_n in_o the_o individual_n thereof_o one_o above_o another_o in_o inanimate_v that_o have_v not_o will_n their_o different_a virtue_n be_v without_o claim_n or_o use_v in_o the_o exercise_n of_o power_n and_o dominion_n yet_o comparative_o we_o may_v see_v one_o loadstone_n of_o great_a efficacy_n than_o another_o so_o as_o to_o draw_v from_o he_o upon_o even_a term_n the_o same_o mass_n of_o iron_n look_v among_o plant_n their_o different_a perfection_n in_o the_o same_o kind_n be_v to_o all_o apparent_a and_o how_o also_o one_o tree_n or_o fruit_n that_o be_v perfect_a in_o the_o same_o kind_a or_o plant_n over_o power_v that_o which_o be_v less_o in_o such_o sort_n as_o when_o we_o be_v to_o set_v forth_o god_n power_n and_o bounty_n in_o the_o virtue_n and_o endowment_n of_o stone_n or_o plant_n of_o any_o kind_n it_o be_v our_o custom_n and_o duty_n to_o instance_n it_o in_o such_o as_o be_v the_o most_o rare_a and_o perfect_a particular_n of_o the_o same_o kind_n which_o may_v by_o their_o worth_n eminent_o include_v the_o whole_a beast_n have_v their_o degree_n of_o prudence_n and_o courage_n whereby_o they_o come_v to_o resemble_v man_n and_o be_v difference_v above_o other_o of_o the_o same_o kind_n recompense_v with_o the_o dominion_n over_o one_o another_o also_o look_v above_o ourselves_o and_o although_o our_o happiness_n can_v yet_o extend_v to_o know_v any_o thing_n of_o the_o true_a nature_n of_o angel_n yet_o suppose_v they_o in_o that_o one_o know_a relation_n of_o degree_n in_o the_o same_o kind_n more_o various_a that_o from_o eminence_n herein_o eminence_n in_o power_n may_v proportionable_o arise_v for_o as_o to_o have_v make_v any_o one_o species_n imperfect_a in_o itself_o can_v not_o be_v imagine_v from_o the_o power_n of_o such_o a_o author_n so_o also_o not_o to_o have_v make_v some_o individual_n thereof_o more_o perfect_a than_o other_o whereby_o as_o it_o be_v to_o confess_v that_o the_o author_n power_n by_o this_o certain_a stint_n be_v come_v to_o its_o high_a pitch_n can_v not_o be_v expect_v from_o omnipotency_n either_o no_o more_o than_o it_o can_v from_o his_o justice_n or_o goodness_n not_o to_o communicate_v more_o of_o his_o power_n and_o particular_a presence_n in_o thing_n thus_o make_v perfect_a not_o that_o any_o the_o low_a thing_n have_v hereupon_o cause_n or_o reason_n to_o complain_v because_o each_o one_o have_v a_o stock_n of_o blessing_n suitable_a to_o its_o capacity_n and_o the_o small_a and_o great_a vessel_n be_v both_o alike_o full_a they_o must_v in_o that_o respect_n be_v alike_o please_v nor_o can_v god_n but_o hereby_o be_v much_o advantage_v in_o general_a acknowledgement_n whilst_o in_o their_o grateful_a sense_n of_o enjoyment_n all_o thing_n rest_v content_v with_o the_o measure_n of_o their_o receipt_n thus_o while_o each_o superior_a order_n of_o angel_n in_o that_o celestial_a be_v man_n and_o for_o that_o proportion_n of_o religion_n liberty_n protection_n etc._n etc._n which_o he_o enjoy_v above_o other_o creature_n have_v cause_n also_o to_o bless_v that_o inexhaustible_a fountain_n of_o goodness_n whereas_o if_o man_n and_o other_o creature_n have_v be_v make_v for_o virtue_n or_o power_n equal_a in_o the_o individual_n of_o the_o same_o kind_n then_o for_o want_v of_o eminent_a obligation_n and_o example_n of_o virtue_n and_o power_n
under_o the_o tie_n of_o religion_n also_o to_o be_v entire_o obey_v by_o all_o that_o acknowledge_v his_o christian_a jurisdiction_n we_o be_v no_o more_o due_o able_a to_o divide_v the_o supremacy_n bring_v as_o a_o bar_n to_o the_o divine_a right_n of_o execution_n of_o the_o one_o more_o than_o another_o nor_o to_o regal_a super-intency_a in_o both_o therefore_o as_o we_o have_v former_o show_v the_o necessity_n of_o our_o submission_n to_o the_o prince_n his_o guidance_n in_o our_o outward_a observation_n of_o that_o law_n of_o the_o second_o table_n thou_o shall_v love_v thy_o neighbour_n as_o thyself_o so_o must_v we_o conclude_v it_o much_o more_o necessary_a that_o that_o form_n and_o manner_n of_o service_n which_o be_v requisite_a to_o express_v our_o devotion_n in_o fulfil_v scandalous_a they_o be_v not_o call_v so_o because_o jew_n or_o heathen_n use_v they_o but_o because_o a_o few_o man_n have_v now_o include_v themselves_o in_o the_o common_a profession_n and_o number_n of_o christianity_n will_v therein_o dissent_v from_o the_o common_a practice_n of_o christian_n which_o run_v otherwise_o and_o then_o again_o since_o god_n himself_o do_v not_o prescribe_v the_o whole_a outward_a form_n of_o express_v our_o love_n and_o praise_n of_o he_o and_o that_o he_o do_v it_o be_v yet_o recommend_v for_o execution_n to_o the_o supreme_a magistrate_n trust_v it_o divers_a sort_n of_o disagreer_n that_o sect_n can_v have_v be_v scandalous_a only_o that_o depart_v most_o whereas_o now_o each_o one_o be_v scandalous_a so_o far_o as_o they_o differ_v from_o their_o stand_a plain_a rule_n even_o by_o so_o far_o depart_v from_o christ_n and_o lean_v to_o themselves_o as_o they_o depart_v from_o his_o minister_n and_o therefore_o he_o say_v they_o that_o be_v such_o that_o be_v which_o cause_n division_n contrary_a to_o the_o doctrine_n learn_v serve_v not_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o be_v do_v not_o right_o obey_v he_o though_o they_o pretend_v it_o by_o not_o obey_v his_o chief_a minister_n but_o their_o own_o belly_n 16.18_o and_o by_o fair_a speech_n deceive_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o simple_a and_o to_o prove_v far_o that_o preservation_n that_o thereby_o god_n may_v have_v the_o great_a number_n of_o praiser_n and_o yet_o never_o practise_v this_o duty_n of_o praise_n and_o worship_n so_o must_v we_o thence_o infer_v that_o in_o and_o towards_o the_o state_v and_o exercise_n of_o this_o duty_n obedience_n be_v most_o especial_o require_v as_o to_o the_o meritorious_a and_o final_a object_n of_o all_o the_o rest_n so_o that_o if_o by_o mean_n of_o our_o obedience_n to_o christ_n in_o the_o church_n his_o kingdom_n here_o upon_o earth_n there_o be_v not_o a_o uniformity_n keep_v up_o in_o our_o public_a exercise_n of_o all_o those_o duty_n that_o serve_v for_o the_o advancement_n of_o god_n kingdom_n in_o our_o heart_n and_o for_o set_v forth_o his_o worship_n and_o praise_n for_o benefit_n receive_v that_o unity_n and_o coition_n of_o the_o christian_a graceâ—_n and_o precept_n among_o themselves_o former_o speak_v of_o will_v come_v to_o be_v make_v void_a and_o useless_a for_o however_o it_o may_v be_v allowable_a to_o each_o single_a man_n as_o best_o sensible_a of_o his_o own_o enjoyment_n and_o want_n to_o thank_v god_n or_o pray_v to_o he_o private_o in_o such_o manner_n and_o
first_o office_n by_o suffer_v here_o and_o the_o other_o not_o till_o he_o enter_v into_o his_o glory_n he_o therefore_o answer_v it_o be_v not_o for_o you_o to_o know_v the_o time_n and_o the_o have_v he_o not_o put_v they_o in_o such_o a_o condition_n as_o they_o can_v not_o do_v otherwise_o to_o which_o purpose_n as_o job_n in_o the_o fortune_n of_o this_o world_n so_o we_o for_o trial_n of_o our_o faith_n be_v suffer_v to_o have_v tare_n and_o false_a light_n sow_v among_o we_o by_o that_o wicked_a one_o that_o we_o from_o thence_o escape_v may_v arise_v more_o glorious_a in_o the_o praise_n of_o the_o goodness_n and_o power_n of_o that_o god_n to_o who_o glory_n and_o service_n we_o direct_v it_o and_o to_o the_o great_a condemnation_n of_o he_o that_o in_o so_o great_a a_o light_n fall_v away_o nor_o yet_o can_v there_o be_v any_o ground_n take_v from_o thence_o for_o any_o such_o impious_a conjecture_n as_o that_o god_n propose_v these_o light_n and_o truth_n to_o his_o church_n as_o in_o mockery_n and_o with_o direct_a intention_n of_o render_v they_o ineffectual_a through_o obscurity_n and_o not_o as_o true_o and_o sincere_o therein_o purpose_v their_o benefit_n and_o salvation_n for_o we_o may_v confident_o affirm_v that_o the_o discovery_n of_o the_o error_n and_o inconvenience_n of_o atheism_n antichristianism_n uncharitableness_n disobedience_n etc._n etc._n be_v in_o nature_n and_o many_o place_n of_o scripture_n so_o plain_o deliver_v and_o the_o contrary_a truth_n and_o duty_n so_o evident_o express_v and_o assert_v that_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a for_o any_o man_n who_o licentiousness_n have_v not_o prejudice_v and_o prepossessed_n with_o the_o spirit_n of_o infidelity_n rebellion_n malice_n stubornness_n or_o the_o like_a to_o be_v ignorant_a thereof_o upon_o any_o reasonable_a inquiry_n but_o if_o the_o corruption_n of_o our_o deprave_a nature_n help_v on_o with_o the_o malice_n of_o that_o wicked_a one_o most_o forward_o to_o sow_v his_o tare_n in_o the_o field_n of_o the_o church_n and_o most_o ready_a to_o enter_v the_o place_n thus_o sweep_v and_o garnish_v do_v so_o common_o keep_v we_o from_o discern_v those_o truth_n and_o duty_n which_o we_o be_v so_o loath_a to_o find_v and_o conceive_v to_o be_v such_o it_o be_v not_o as_o before_o note_v to_o be_v wonder_v at_o and_o to_o come_v near_o our_o own_o present_a business_n by_o instance_n if_o there_o shall_v have_v be_v set_v down_o in_o scripture_n such_o plain_a precept_n for_o settle_v the_o office_n and_o power_n of_o monarchy_n as_o shall_v have_v necessary_o and_o universal_o drive_v man_n to_o implicit_a obedience_n to_o that_o government_n and_o none_o else_o it_o will_v not_o only_o have_v overthrow_v our_o liberty_n and_o render_v all_o man_n equal_o good_a and_o bad_a as_o aforesaid_a but_o also_o have_v endanger_v the_o loss_n of_o god_n honour_n the_o end_n of_o man_n conservation_n whilst_o it_o thus_o for_o peace_n sake_n go_v about_o to_o confer_v it_o too_o close_o and_o absolute_o on_o his_o deputy_n on_o who_o as_o in_o a_o kind_n of_o idolatry_n man_n may_v else_o come_v to_o fix_v those_o express_a return_n of_o thanks_o and_o praise_n which_o to_o god_n himself_o be_v only_o due_a as_o to_o their_o fountain_n and_o original_n these_o lesson_n intend_v as_o well_o to_o enjoin_v obedience_n in_o subject_n to_o who_o all_o place_n of_o obedience_n must_v be_v understand_v as_o to_o take_v off_o arrogance_n in_o prince_n and_o so_o each_o one_o to_o learn_v their_o own_o part_n not_o that_o of_o other_o and_o therefore_o when_o we_o shall_v find_v christ_n so_o obsure_v in_o his_o description_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n or_o heaven_n and_o of_o his_o appear_v as_o to_o give_v occasion_n to_o some_o to_o think_v the_o word_n altogether_o to_o imply_v god_n inward_a kingdom_n or_o christ_n come_v to_o judgement_n at_o the_o last_o day_n and_o not_o his_o glorious_a appearance_n in_o his_o kingdom_n the_o church_n it_o be_v not_o much_o to_o be_v admire_v to_o be_v misconstrue_v and_o that_o construction_n always_o make_v use_n of_o by_o such_o prejudice_v mind_n as_o be_v loath_a to_o examine_v how_o then_o it_o shall_v be_v true_a that_o the_o apostle_n themselves_o shall_v desire_v to_o see_v one_o of_o the_o day_n of_o the_o son_n of_o man_n and_o shall_v not_o see_v it_o 17.22_o it_o be_v unconceivable_a how_o they_o shall_v not_o see_v his_o second_o come_v to_o judgement_n or_o not_o be_v partaker_n of_o his_o glory_n therein_o as_o well_o as_o of_o his_o inward_a comfort_n here_o upon_o which_o ground_n we_o may_v also_o find_v reason_n why_o our_o saviour_n be_v so_o close_a and_o reserve_v in_o all_o those_o place_n where_o he_o have_v occasion_n to_o speak_v of_o that_o power_n he_o be_v to_o delegate_v and_o leave_v to_o his_o apostle_n even_o so_o that_o he_o not_o only_o forbear_v to_o put_v their_o authority_n under_o the_o plain_a notion_n of_o obedience_n and_o do_v it_o under_o the_o more_o familiar_a term_n of_o hear_v or_o receive_v say_v he_o that_o receive_v 10.16_o or_o hear_v you_o hear_v or_o receive_v i_o but_o also_o whilst_o he_o be_v give_v they_o this_o power_n he_o do_v so_o intermix_v it_o with_o such_o other_o discourse_n that_o may_v seem_v or_o be_v common_a to_o other_o also_o that_o the_o apostle_n themselves_o can_v not_o it_o be_v like_o understand_v the_o plenitude_n of_o their_o own_o power_n until_o after_o his_o resurrection_n that_o he_o have_v particular_o speak_v to_o they_o of_o the_o thing_n pertain_v to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n which_o thing_n be_v the_o proper_a duty_n and_o instruction_n of_o the_o apostle_n only_o 1.3_o be_v the_o reason_n we_o find_v he_o not_o mention_v the_o like_a to_o any_o other_o person_n and_o when_o by_o reason_n of_o this_o obscurity_n s._n peter_n be_v ask_v whether_o themselves_o or_o all_o be_v speak_v to_o he_o neither_o give_v answer_v i_o
