our_o mind_n that_o the_o great_a end_n and_o project_n of_o all_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o mercy_n and_o justice_n upon_o man_n and_o this_o we_o may_v conceive_v be_v first_o in_o order_n neither_o man_n life_n nor_o death_n but_o god_n glory_n to_o be_v manifest_v upon_o man_n now_o to_o attain_v this_o glorious_a end_n with_o one_o inclination_n or_o determination_n of_o his_o will_n not_o to_o be_v distinguish_v or_o sever_v he_o condescend_v upon_o all_o that_o be_v do_v in_o time_n as_o one_o complete_a and_o entire_a mean_n of_o glorify_v himself_o so_o that_o one_o of_o they_o be_v not_o before_o another_o in_o his_o mind_n but_o all_o together_o for_o attain_v this_o he_o purpose_v to_o create_v man_n he_o ordain_v the_o fall_n of_o all_o man_n into_o a_o state_n of_o sin_n and_o misery_n &_o some_o of_o these_o upon_o who_o he_o have_v resolve_v to_o show_v his_o mercy_n he_o give_v they_o to_o christ_n to_o be_v redeem_v &_o restore_v by_o grace_n other_o he_o fore-ordains_a they_o to_o destruction_n &_o all_o this_o at_o once_o without_o any_o such_o order_n as_o we_o imagine_v now_o though_o he_o intend_v all_o this_o at_o once_o and_o together_o yet_o it_o do_v not_o hence_o follow_v that_o all_o these_o must_v be_v execute_v together_o as_o when_o a_o man_n intend_v to_o build_v a_o house_n for_o his_o own_o accommodation_n there_o be_v many_o thing_n in_o the_o house_n upon_o which_o he_o have_v not_o several_a purpose_n but_o yet_o they_o must_v be_v several_o and_o in_o some_o order_n do_v first_o the_o foundation_n lay_v than_o the_o wall_n raise_v than_o the_o roof_n put_v on_o yet_o he_o do_v not_o intend_v the_o foundation_n to_o be_v for_o the_o wall_n or_o the_o wall_n for_o the_o roof_n but_o altogether_o for_o himself_o even_o so_o the_o lord_n purpose_v to_o glorify_v his_o mercy_n and_o justice_n upon_o a_o certain_a number_n of_o person_n and_o for_o this_o end_n to_o give_v they_o a_o be_v to_o govern_v their_o fall_n into_o misery_n to_o raise_v some_o out_o of_o it_o by_o a_o mediator_n and_o to_o live_v some_o into_o it_o to_o destruction_n &_o all_o this_o as_o one_o entire_a mean_n to_o illustrate_v his_o glorious_a mercy_n and_o justice_n but_o these_o thing_n themselves_o must_v be_v do_v not_o all_o at_o once_o but_o one_o before_o another_o either_o as_o their_o own_o nature_n require_v or_o as_o he_o please_v the_o very_a nature_n of_o the_o thing_n require_v that_o man_n be_v create_v before_o he_o sin_n that_o he_o sin_n and_o fall_v before_o a_o mediator_n suffer_v for_o his_o sin_n and_o that_o he_o have_v a_o be_v before_o he_o have_v a_o glorious_a be_v and_o that_o he_o have_v a_o sinful_a and_o miserable_a be_v before_o he_o have_v this_o glorious_a and_o gracious_a be_v which_o may_v manifest_v the_o grace_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n but_o it_o be_v the_o pleasure_n of_o the_o lord_n that_o determine_v in_o what_o time_n and_o order_n christ_n shall_v suffer_v either_o before_o or_o after_o the_o conversion_n of_o sinner_n or_o whether_o sinner_n shall_v present_o be_v instate_v in_o glory_n and_o perfect_o deliver_v from_o all_o sin_n at_o their_o first_o conversion_n or_o only_o in_o part_n during_o this_o life_n see_v then_o this_o be_v his_o majesty_n purpose_n to_o make_v so_o many_o vessel_n of_o honour_n upon_o who_o he_o may_v glorify_v the_o riches_n of_o his_o grace_n end_n mercy_n and_o so_o many_o vessel_n of_o wrath_n upon_o who_o he_o may_v show_v the_o power_n of_o his_o anger_n you_o may_v think_v what_o need_v all_o this_o business_n of_o man_n redemption_n may_v not_o god_n have_v either_o preserve_v so_o many_o as_o he_o have_v appoint_v to_o glory_n from_o fall_v into_o sin_n and_o misery_n or_o at_o least_o have_v free_o pardon_v their_o sin_n without_o any_o satisfaction_n and_o out_o of_o the_o exceed_a riches_n of_o his_o mercy_n and_o power_n have_v as_o well_o not_o impute_v sin_n to_o they_o at_o all_o as_o impute_v their_o sin_n to_o christ_n who_o be_v not_o guilty_a what_o need_v his_o give_v so_o many_o to_o the_o son_n and_o the_o son_n receive_v they_o what_o need_v these_o mystery_n of_o incarnation_n of_o redemption_n see_v he_o may_v have_v do_v all_o this_o simple_o without_o so_o much_o pain_n and_o expense_n why_o do_v he_o choose_v this_o way_n indeed_o that_o be_v the_o wonder_n and_o if_o there_o be_v no_o more_o end_n for_o it_o but_o to_o confound_v mortality_n that_o dare_v ask_v he_o what_o he_o do_v it_o be_v enough_o shall_v he_o be_v callâ—…_n down_o to_o the_o bar_n of_o humane_a reason_n to_o give_v a_o account_n of_o his_o matter_n who_o have_v know_v the_o mind_n of_o the_o lord_n or_o be_v his_o counsellor_n have_v teach_v he_o that_o be_v in_o the_o depth_n of_o his_o unsearchable_a understanding_n that_o he_o choose_v to_o go_v this_o round_a &_o to_o compass_v his_o end_n by_o such_o a_o strange_a circuit_n of_o mean_n when_o he_o may_v have_v do_v it_o simple_o and_o direct_o without_o so_o much_o pain_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o so_o hide_v but_o he_o have_v reveal_v as_o much_o as_o may_v satisfy_v or_o silence_v all_o flesh_n for_o we_o must_v consider_v that_o his_o great_a project_n be_v not_o simple_o to_o manifest_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o goodness_n but_o of_o his_o gracious_a and_o merciful_a goodness_n the_o most_o tender_a and_o excellent_a of_o all_o &_o therefore_o man_n must_v be_v miserable_a sinful_a and_o vile_a that_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o grace_n may_v appear_v in_o choose_v and_o save_v such_o person_n but_o that_o it_o may_v appear_v also_o how_o excellent_a he_o can_v make_v man_n and_o how_o vain_a all_o create_a perfection_n be_v be_v leave_v to_o themselves_o therefore_o he_o first_o make_v man_n righteous_a and_o be_v fall_v into_o sin_n and_o misery_n he_o may_v straight_o way_n have_v restore_v he_o without_o more_o ado_n but_o his_o purpose_n be_v to_o give_v a_o exact_a demonstration_n of_o mercy_n temper_v and_o mix_v with_o justice_n and_o therefore_o he_o find_v out_o the_o satisfaction_n in_o his_o eternal_a counsel_n i_o have_v find_v a_o ransom_n and_o so_o he_o choose_v jesus_n christ_n to_o be_v the_o head_n of_o these_o choose_a soul_n in_o who_o they_o may_v be_v again_o restore_v unto_o eternal_a life_n and_o these_o soul_n he_o in_o his_o everlasting_a purpose_n give_v over_o to_o the_o son_n to_o be_v redeem_v and_o these_o the_o son_n receive_v and_o thus_o the_o glory_n of_o mercy_n and_o justice_n shine_v most_o bright_o yea_o more_o bright_o than_o he_o have_v at_o first_o pardon_v o_o how_o do_v his_o love_n and_o mercy_n appear_v that_o he_o will_v transfer_v our_o sin_n upon_o his_o holy_a son_n and_o accept_v that_o redemption_n for_o we_o and_o his_o justice_n that_o a_o redemption_n &_o price_n he_o must_v have_v even_o from_o his_o son_n when_o once_o he_o come_v in_o the_o stead_n of_o sinner_n and_o in_o this_o point_n do_v the_o song_n of_o eternity_n concentre_v rom._n 9_o 22._o and_o eph._n 1._o 11._o we_o be_v now_o upon_o a_o high_a subject_n high_a indeed_o for_o a_o eminent_a apostle_n much_o more_o above_o our_o reach_n the_o very_a consideration_n of_o god_n infinite_a wisdom_n may_v alone_o suffice_v to_o restrain_v our_o unlimited_a thought_n and_o serve_v to_o sober_a our_o mind_n with_o the_o challenge_n of_o our_o own_o ignorance_n and_o darkness_n yet_o the_o vain_a and_o wicked_a mind_n of_o man_n will_v needs_o quarrel_v with_o god_n &_o enter_v the_o list_n of_o disputation_n with_o he_o about_o his_o righteousness_n and_o wisdom_n in_o the_o counsel_n of_o election_n and_o reprobation_n but_o who_o be_v thou_o o_o man_n that_o reply_v against_o god_n or_o despute_v ver_fw-la 20._o this_o be_v a_o thing_n not_o to_o be_v dispute_v but_o believe_v and_o if_o you_o will_v believe_v no_o more_o than_o you_o can_v comprehend_v by_o sense_n or_o reason_n than_o you_o give_v his_o majesty_n no_o more_o credit_n than_o to_o weak_a mortal_a man_n whatever_o secret_a thought_n do_v rise_v up_o in_o thy_o heart_n when_o thou_o hear_v of_o god_n fore-ordaining_a man_n to_o eternal_a life_n
think_v the_o word_n be_v true_a and_o they_o never_o doubt_v of_o it_o but_o i_o beseech_v you_o consider_v how_o great_o you_o mistake_v a_o main_a matter_n of_o weighty_a concernment_n if_o you_o will_v search_v it_o as_o before_o the_o lord_n you_o will_v find_v you_o have_v no_o other_o belief_n of_o these_o thing_n than_o child_n use_v to_o have_v who_o you_o teach_v to_o think_v or_o say_v any_o thing_n there_o be_v no_o other_o ground_n of_o your_o not_o question_v these_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o because_o you_o never_o consider_v on_o they_o and_o so_o they_o pass_v for_o current_n do_v not_o deceive_v yourselves_o with_o the_o heart_n man_n believe_v it_o be_v a_o heart-businesse_n a_o soul-matter_n no_o light_n and_o useless_a opinion_n or_o empty_a expression_n which_o you_o have_v learn_v from_o a_o child_n you_o say_v you_o believe_v in_o god_n the_o maker_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n and_o so_o say_v child_n who_o doubt_v no_o more_o of_o it_o than_o you_o and_o yet_o in_o sadness_n they_o do_v not_o retire_v within_o their_o own_o heart_n to_o think_v what_o a_o one_o he_o be_v they_o do_v not_o remember_v he_o in_o the_o work_n of_o his_o hand_n there_o be_v no_o more_o remembrance_n of_o that_o true_a god_n than_o if_o no_o such_o thing_n be_v know_v so_o it_o be_v among_o you_o you_o will_v think_v we_o wrong_v you_o if_o we_o say_v you_o believe_v not_o that_o god_n make_v the_o world_n &_o yet_o certain_o all_o man_n have_v not_o this_o faith_n whereby_o they_o understand_v true_o in_o their_o heart_n the_o power_n &_o wisdom_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n appear_v in_o it_o that_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n only_o give_v to_o they_o that_o shall_v be_v save_v if_o i_o shall_v say_v that_o you_o believe_v not_o the_o most_o common_a principle_n of_o religion_n you_o will_v think_v it_o hard_o &_o yet_o there_o be_v no_o doubt_n of_o it_o that_o the_o most_o common_a truth_n be_v least_o believe_v and_o the_o reason_n be_v plain_a because_o man_n have_v learn_v they_o by_o tongue_n and_o there_o be_v none_o that_o question_v they_o &_o therefore_o very_a few_o ever_o in_o sadness_n and_o in_o earnest_n consider_v of_o they_o you_o say_v that_o god_n make_v heaven_n &_o earth_n but_o how_o often_o do_v you_o think_v on_o that_o god_n and_o how_o often_o do_v you_o think_v on_o he_o with_o admiration_n do_v you_o at_o all_o wonder_n at_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n when_o you_o gaze_v on_o his_o work_n be_v not_o this_o volume_n always_o observant_a before_o your_o eye_n every_o thing_n show_v and_o declare_v this_o glorious_a maker_n yet_o who_o be_v it_o that_o take_v more_o notice_n of_o he_o than_o if_o he_o be_v not_o at_o all_o such_o be_v the_o general_a stupidity_n of_o man_n that_o they_o never_o ponder_v &_o digest_v these_o thing_n in_o their_o heart_n till_o their_o soul_n receive_v the_o stamp_n of_o the_o glory_n &_o greatness_n of_o the_o invisible_a god_n which_o shine_v most_o bright_o in_o these_o thing_n that_o be_v visible_a and_o be_v in_o some_o measure_n transform_v in_o their_o mind_n and_o conform_v to_o these_o glorious_a appearance_n of_o he_o which_o be_v engrave_v in_o great_a character_n in_o all_o that_o do_v at_o all_o appear_v there_o be_v another_o mistake_v peculiar_a to_o some_o especial_o the_o lord_n people_n that_o they_o think_v faith_n be_v limit_v to_o some_o few_o particular_a and_o more_o unknown_a and_o hide_v truth_n and_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n you_o think_v that_o it_o be_v only_o true_a believe_v to_o embrace_v some_o special_a gospell-truth_n which_o the_o multitude_n of_o people_n know_v nothing_o of_o as_o the_o tenor_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o of_o work_n etc._n etc._n and_o for_o other_o common_a principle_n of_o god_n make_v and_o rule_v the_o world_n you_o think_v that_o a_o common_a thing_n to_o believe_v they_o but_o say_v the_o apostle_n by_o faith_n we_o understand_v that_o the_o world_n be_v make_v it_o be_v that_o same_o faith_n speak_v of_o in_o the_o end_n of_o chap._n 10._o by_o which_o the_o just_a shall_v live_v so_o then_o here_o be_v a_o point_n of_o save_a faith_n to_o believe_v with_o the_o heart_n in_o god_n the_o creator_n and_o father_n almighty_a to_o take_v a_o view_n of_o god_n almighty_a power_n and_o sufficient_a goodness_n and_o infinite_a wisdom_n shine_v in_o the_o fabric_n of_o the_o world_n &_o that_o with_o delight_n and_o admiration_n at_o such_o a_o glorious_a fountain-being_a to_o rise_v up_o to_o his_o majesty_n by_o the_o degree_n of_o his_o creature_n this_o be_v the_o climb_a and_o aspire_a nature_n of_o faith_n you_o see_v how_o much_o those_o saint_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n be_v in_o this_o and_o certain_o they_o have_v more_o excellent_a and_o beseem_a thought_n of_o god_n than_o we_o it_o shall_v make_v christian_n ashamed_a that_o both_o heathen_n who_o have_v no_o other_o book_n open_v to_o they_o but_o that_o of_o nature_n do_v read_v it_o more_o diligent_o than_o we_o and_o that_o the_o saint_n of_o old_a who_o have_v not_o such_o a_o plain_a testimony_n of_o god_n as_o we_o now_o have_v yet_o do_v learn_v more_o out_o of_o the_o book_n of_o the_o creature_n than_o we_o do_v both_o out_o of_o it_o and_o the_o scripture_n we_o look_v on_o all_o thing_n with_o such_o a_o careless_a eye_n and_o do_v not_o observe_v what_o may_v be_v find_v of_o god_n in_o they_o i_o think_v very_o there_o be_v many_o christian_n and_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n who_o do_v not_o ascend_v into_o those_o high_a and_o ravish_a thought_n of_o god_n in_o his_o be_v and_o work_v as_o will_v become_v even_o mere_a naturalist_n how_o little_o can_v they_o speak_v out_o of_o his_o majesty_n to_o show_v forth_o his_o praise_n to_o gather_v and_o take_v up_o from_o the_o creature_n all_o the_o fruit_n of_o his_o praise_n and_o offer_v they_o up_o to_o his_o majesty_n this_o be_v the_o
