them that perish 16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death to the other the savour of life unto life and who is sufficient for these things 17 For we are not as many which ‖ Or deal deceitfully with * Chap. 4.2 corrupt the word of God but as of sincerity but as of God in the sight of God speak we in Christ CHAP. III. 1 Lest their false teachers should charge him with vain-glory he sheweth the faith and graces of the Corinthians to be a sufficient commendation of his ministery 6 Whereupon entring a comparison between the ministers of the law and of the gospel 12 he proveth that his ministery is so far the more excellent as the gospel of life and liberty is more glorious then the law of condemnation DO we begin again to commend our selves or need we as some others epistles of commendation to you or letters of commendation from you 2 Ye are our epistle written in our hearts known read of all men 3 For as much as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministred by us written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God not in tables of stone but in fleshly tables of the heart 4 And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward 5 Not that we are sufficient of our selves to think any thing as of our selves but our sufficiency is of God 6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament not of the letter but of the spirit for the letter killeth but the spirit ‖ Or quickneth giveth life 7 But if the ministration of death written and engraven in stones was glorious so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance which glory was to be done away 8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious 9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory 10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect by reason of the glory that excelleth 11 For if that which is done away was glorious much more that which remaineth is glorious 12 Seeing then that we have such hope we use great ‖ Or boldness plainness of speech 13 And not as Moses * Exod. 34.33 which put a vail over his face that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished 14 But their mindes were blinded for until this day remaineth the same vail untâ—ken away in the reading of the old testament which vail is done away in Christ 15 But even unto this day when Moses is read the vail is upon their heart 16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord the vail shall be taken away 17 Now the Lord is that Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty 18 But we all with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord are changed into the same image from glory to glory even as ‖ Or of the Lord the Spirit by the Spirit of the Lord. CHAP. IV. 1 He declareth how he hath used all sincerity and faithful diligence in preaching the â—ospel 7 and how the troubles and persecutions which be daily endureth for the same did redound to the praise of Gods power 12 to the benefit of the church 16 and to the apostle's own eternal glory THerefore seeing we have this ministery as we have received mercy we faint not 2 But have renounced the hidden things of †Or. shâ—me dishonesty not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully but by manifestation of the truth commending our selves to every mans conscience in the sight of God 3 But if our gospel be hid it is hid to them that are lost 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which beleeve not lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ who is the image of God should shine unto them 5 For we preach not our selves but Christ Jesus the Lord and our selves your servants for Jesus sake 6 For God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness hath shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ 7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us 8 We are troubled on every side yet not distressed we are perplexed but ‖ Or not altogether without help or means not in despair 9 Persecuted but not forsaken cast down but not destroyed 10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body 11 For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus sake that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh 12 So then death worketh in us but life in you 13 We having the same spirit of faith according as it is written * Psal 11â— 10 I beleeved and therefore have I spoken we also beleeve and therefore speak 14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus and shall present us with you 15 For all things are for your sakes that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God 16 For which cause we faint not but though our outward man perish yet the inward man is renewed day by day 17 For our light affliction which is but for a moment worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory 18 While we look not at the things which are seen but at the things which are not seen for the things which are seen are temporal but the things which are not seen are eternal CHAP. V. 1 That in his assured hope of immortal glory 9 and in expâ—ctance of it and of the general judgement he laboureth to keep a good conscirence 12 not that he may herein boast of himself 14 but as one that having received life from Christ endeavoureth to live as a new creature to Christ onely 18 and by his ministery of reconciliation to reconcile others also in Christ to God FOr we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved we have a building of God an house not made with hands eternal in the heavens 2 For in this we groan earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven 3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked 4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan being burdened not for that we would be unclothed but clothed upon that mortality might be swallowed up of life 5 Now he that hath wrought us for the self same thing is God who also hath given unto us the earnest of

PETER CHAP. It is much for you Ye take too much upon you seeing all the congregation are holy everyone of them and the LORD is among them wherefore then lift you up your selves above the congregation of the LORD 4 And when Moses heard it he fell upon his face 5 And he spake unto Korah and unto all his company saying Even to morrow the LORD will shew who are his and who is holy and will cause him to come near unto him even him whom he hath chosen will he cause to come near unto him 6 This do take you censers Korah and all his company 7 And put fire therein and put incense in them before the LORD to morrow and it shall be that the man whom the LORD doth choose he shall be holy ye take too much upon you ye sons of Levi. 8 And Moses said unto Korah Hear I pray you ye sons of Levi 9 Seemeth it but a small thing unto you that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them 10 And he hath brought thee near to him and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee and seek ye the priesthood also 11 For which cause both thou and all thy company are gathered together against the LORD and what is Aaron that ye murmure against him 12 ¶ And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab which said We will not come up 13 Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness except thou make thy self altogether a prince over us 14 Moreover thou hast not brought us into a land that floweth with milk and honey or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards wilt thou †Heb. here out put out the eyes of these men we will not come up 15 And Moses was very wroth and said unto the LORD * Gen. 4 4. Respect not thou their offering I have not taken one ass from them neither have I hurt one of them 16 And Moses said unto Korah Be thou and all thy company before the LORD thou and they and Aaron to morrow 17 And take every man his censer and put incense in them and bring ye before the LORD every man his censer two hundred and fifty censers thou also and Aaron each of you his censer 18 And they took every man his censer and put fire in them and said incense thereon and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron 19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation 20 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron saying 21 Separate your selves from among this congregation that I may consume them in a moment 22 And they fell upon their faces and said O God the God of the spirits of all flesh shall one man sin and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation 23 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 24 Speak unto the congregation saying Get you up from about the taberlacle of Korah Dathan and Abiram 25 And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram and the elders of Israel followed him 26 And he spake unto the congregation saying Depart I pray you from the tents of these wicked men and touch nothing of theirs lest ye be consumed in all their sins 27 So they gat up from the tabernacle of Korah Dathan and Abiram on every side and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood in the door of their tents and their wives and their sons and their little children 28 And Moses said Hereby ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works for I have not done them of mine own minde 29 If these men die †Heb. as every man dieth the common death of all men or if they be visited after the visitation of all men then
the LORD hath not sent me 30 But if the LORD †Heb. create a creature make a new thing and the earth open her mouth and swallow them up with all that appertain unto them and they go down quick into the pit then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD 31 ¶ * Ch. 27.3 Deut. 11.6 Ps 106.17 And it came to pass as he had made an end of speaking all these words that the ground clave asunder that was under them 32 And the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up their houses and all the men that appertained unto Korah and all their goods 33 They and all that appertained to them went down alive into the pit and the earth closed upon them and they perished from among the congregation 34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them for they said Lest the earth swallow us up also 35 And there came out a fire from the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense 36 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 37 Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest that he take up the censers out of the burning and scatter thou the fire yonder for they are hallowed 38 The censers of these sinners against their own souls let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar for they offered them before the LORD therefore they are hallowed and they shall be a signe unto the children of Israel 39 And Eleazar the priest took the brasen censers wherewith they that were burnt had offered and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar 40 To be a memorial unto the children of Israel that no stranger which is not of the seed of Aaron come near to offer incense before the LORD that he be not as Korah and as his company as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses 41 ¶ But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron saying Ye have killed the people of the LORD 42 And it came to pass when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation and behold the cloud covered it and the glory of the LORD appeared 43 And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation 44 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 45 Get you up from among this congregation that I may consume them as in a moment and they fell upon their faces 46 ¶ And Moses said unto Aaron Take a censer and put fire therein from off the altar and put on incense and go quickly unto the congregation and make an atonement for them for there is wrath gone out from the LORD the plague is begun 47 And Aaron took as Moses commanded and ran into the midst of the congregation and behold the plague was begun among the people and he put on incense and made an atonement for the people 48 And he stood between the dead and the living and the plague was stayed 49 Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred beside them that died about the matter of Korah 50 And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and the plague was stayed CHAP. XVII 1 Aarons rod among all the rods of the tribes onely flourisheth 10 It is left for a monument against the rebels ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto the children of Israel and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods write thou every mans name upon his rod. 3 And thou shalt write Aarons name upon the rod of Levi for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers 4 And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony * Exod. 25.22 where I will meet with you 5 And it shall come to pass that the mans rod whom I shall choose shall blossom and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel whereby they murmure against you 6 ¶ And Moses spake unto the children of Israel and every one of their princes gave him †Heb. a rod for one prince a rod for one prince a rod apiece for each prince one according to their fathers houses even twelve rods and the rod of Aaron was among their rods 7 And Moses laid up the rods before the LORD in the tabernacle of witness 8 And it came to pass that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness and behold the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded and brought forth buds and bloomed blossoms and yeelded almonds 9 And Moses brought out all the rods from before the LORD unto all the children of Israel and they looked and took every man his rod. 10 ¶ And the LORD said unto Moses Bring * Hebr. 9.4 Aarons rod again before the testimony to be kept for a token against the †Heb. children of rebellion rebels and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me that they die not 11 And Moses did so as the LORD commanded him so did he 12 And the children of Israel spake unto Moses saying Behold we die we perish we all perish 13 Whosoever cometh any thing near unto the tabernacle of the LORD shall die shall we be consumed with dying CHAP. XVIII 1 The charge of the priests and Levites 9 The priests portion 21 The Levites portion 25 The beave-offering to the priests out of the Levites portion ANd the LORD said unto Aaron Thou and thy sons and thy fathers house with thee shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood 2 And thy brethren also of the tribe of Levi the tribe of thy father bring thou with thee that they may be joyned unto thee and minister unto thee but thou and thy sons with thee shall minister before the tabernacle of witness 3 And they shall keep thy charge and the charge of all the tabernacle onely they shall not come nigh the vessels of the sanctuary and the altar that neither they nor you also die 4 And they shall be joyned unto thee and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation for all the service of the tabernacle and a stranger shall not come nigh unto you 5 And ye shall keep the charge of the sanctuary and the charge of the altar that there be no wrath any more upon the children of Israel 6 And I behold I have * Chap. 3.45 taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel to you they are given as a gift for the LORD to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation
backwardness 20 He powerfully delivereth his out of Babylon HEar ye this O house of Jacob which are called by the name of Israel and are come forth out of the waters of Judah which swear by the name of the LORD and make mention of the God of Israel but not in truth nor in righteousness 2 For they call themselves of the holy city and stay themselves upon the God of Israel the LORD of hosts is his name 3 I have declared the former things from the beginning and they went forth out of my mouth and I shewed them I did them suddenly and they came to pass 4 Because I knew that thou art †Heb. bard obstinate and thy neck is an iron sinew and thy brow brass 5 I have even from the beginning declared it to thee before it came to pass I shewed it thee lest thou shouldest say Mine idol hath done them and my graven imgage and my molten image hath commanded them 6 Thou hast heard see all this and will not ye declare it I have shewed thee new things from this time even hidden things and thou didst not know them 7 They are created now and not from the beginning even before the day when thou heardest them not lest thou shouldest say Behold I knew them 8 Yea thou heardest not yea thou knewest not yea from that time that thine ear was not opened for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously and wast called a transgressour from the womb 9 ¶ For my names sake will I defer mine anger and for my praise will I refrain for thee that I cut thee not off 10 Behold I have refined thee but not ‖ Or for silver with silver I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction 11 For mine own sake even for mine own sake will I do it for how should my name be polluted and * Ch. 42.8 I will not give my glory unto another 12 ¶ Hearken unto me O Jacob and Israel my called I am he I am the * Ch. 41.4 and 44.6 Rev. 1.17 and 22.13 first I also am the last 13 Mine hand also hath said the foundation of the earth and ‖ Or the palm of my right hand hath spread out my right hand hath spanned the heavens when I call unto them they stand up together 14 All ye assemble your selves and hear which among them hath declared these things the LORD hath loved him he will do his pleasure on Babylon and his arm shall be on the Caldeans 15 I even I have spoken yea I have called him I have brought him and he shall make his way prosperous 16 ¶ Come ye near unto me hear ye this I have not spoken in secret from the beginning from the time that it was there am I and now the Lord GOD and his spirit hath sent me 17 Thus saith the LORD thy redeemer the holy One of Israel I am the LORD thy God which reacheth thee to profit which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go 18 O that thou hadst hearkned to my commandments then had thy peace been as a river and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea 19 Thy seed also had been as the sand and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me 20 ¶ Go ye forth of Babylon flee ye from the Caldeans with a voice of singing declare ye tell this utter it even to the end of the earth say ye the LORD hath * Ex. 19.4.5 6. redeemed his servant Jacob. 21 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts he * Ex. 17.6 Nu. 20.11 caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them he clave the rock also and the waters gushed out 22 * Ch. 57.21 There is no peace saith the LORD unto the wicked CHAP. Agarenes that seek wisdom upon earth the merchants of Meran and of Theman the ‖ Or expounders authours of sables and searchers out of understanding none of these have known the way of wisdom or remember her paths 24 O Israel how great is the house of God and how large is the place of his possession 25 Great and hath none end high and unmeasurable 26 There were the giants famous from the beginning that were of so great stature and so expert in war 27 Those did not the Lord choose neither gave he the way of knowledge unto them 28 But they were destroyed because they had no wisdom and perished through their own foolishness 29 Who hath gone up into heaven and taken her and brought her down from the clouds 30 Who hath gone over the sea and found her and will bring her for pure gold 31 No man knoweth her way nor thinketh of her path 32 But he that knoweth all things knoweth her and hath found her out with his understanding he that prepared the earth for evermore hath filled it with fourfooted beasts 33 He that sendeth forth light and it goeth calleth it again and it obeyeth him with fear 34 The stars shined in their watches and rejoyced when he called them they say Here we be and so with cheerfulness they shewed light unto him that made them 35 This is our God and there shall none other be accounted of in comparision of him 36 He hath found out all the way of knowledge and hath given it unto Jacob his servant and to Israel his beloved 37 * Prov. 8.31 Joh. 1.14 Afterward did he shew himself upon earth and conversed with men CHAP. IV. 1 The book of commandments is that wisdom which was commanded in the former chapter 25 The Jews are moved to patience and to hope for the deliverance THis is the book of the commandments of God and the law that endureth for ever all they that keep it shall come to life but such as leave it shall die 2 Turn thee O Jacob and take hold of it walk †Gr. to the shining before the light thereof in the presence of the light thereof that thou mayest be illuminated 3 Give not thine honour to another nor the things that are profitable unto thee to a strange nation 4 O Israel happy are we for things that are pleasing to God are made known unto us 5 Be of good cheer my people the memorial of Israel 6 Ye were sold to the nations not for your destruction but because ye moved God to wrath ye were delivered unto the enemies 7 For ye provoked him that made you by * 1 Cor 10.20 sacrificing unto devils and not to God 8 Ye have forgotten the everlasting God that brought you up and ye have grieved Jerusalem that nursed you 9 For when she saw the wrath of God coming upon you she said Hearken O ye that dwell about Sion God hath brought upon me great mourning 10 For I saw the captivity of my sons and daughters which the Everlasting brought upon them 11 With joy did I nourish them but sent them away with weeping and mourning 12 Let no man rejoyce over me a widow and forsaken of many who for the sins of my children am left desolate because they departed from the law of God 13 They knew not his statutes nor walked in the ways of his commandments nor trode in the paths ‖ Or of his discipline in righteousness of discipline in his righteousness 14 Let them that dwell about Sion come and remember ye the captivity of my sons and daughters which the Evelasting hath brought upon them 15 For he hath brought a nation upon them from far a shameless nation and of a strange language who neither reverenced old man nor pitied childe 16 These have carried away the dear-beloved children of the widow and left her that was alone desolate without daughters 17 But what can I help you 18 For he that brought these plagues upon you will deliver you from the hands of your enemies 19 Go your way O my children go your way for I am left desolate 20 I have put off the clothing of ‖ Or prosperity peace and put upon me the sackcloth of my prayer I will cry unto the Everlasting ‖ Or in the time of mine affliction * Ps 116.2 137.7 in my days 21 Be of good cheer O my children cry unto the Lord and he shall deliver you from the power and hand of the enemies 22 For my hope is in the Everlasting that he will save you and joy is come unto me from the holy One because of the mercy which shall soon come unto you from the Everlasting our Saviour 23 For I sent you out with mourning and weeping But God will give you to me again with joy and gladness for ever 24 Like as now the neighbours of Sion have seen your captivity so shall they see shortly your salvation from our God which shall come upon you with great glory and brightness of the Everlasting 25 My children suffer patiently the wrath that is come upon you from God for thine enemy hath persecuted thee but shortly thou shalt see his destruction and shalt tread upon his neck 26 ‖ Or My darlings My delicate ones have gone rough ways and were taken away as a flock caught of the enemies 27 Be of good comfort O my children and cry unto God for you shall be remembred of him that brought these things upon you 28 For as it was your minde to go astray from God so being returned seek him ten times more 29 For he that hath brought these plagues upon you shall bring you everlasting joy again with your salvation 30 Take a good heart O Jerusalem for he that gave thee that name will comfort thee 31 Miserable are they that afflicted thee and rejoyced at thy fall 32 Miserable are the cities which thy children served miserable is she that received thy sons 33 For as she rejoyced at thy ruine and was glad of thy fall so shall she be grieved for her own desolation 34 For I will take away the rejoycing of her great multitude and her pride shall be turned into mourning 35 For fire shall come upon her from the Everlasting long to endure and she shall be inhabited of devils for a great time 36 O Jerusalem look about thee towards the east and behold the joy that cometh unto thee from God 37 Lo thy sons come whom thou sentest away they come gathered together from the east to the west by the word of the holy One rejoycing in the glory of God CHAP. V. 1 Jerusalem is moved to rejoyce 5 and to behold their return out of captivity with glory PUt off O Jerusalem the garment of thy mourning and affliction and put on the comeliness of the glory that cometh from God for ever 2 Cast about thee a double garment of the righteousness which cometh from God
