XLIX 1 Christ being sent to the Jews complaineth of them 5 He is sent to the Ge●tiles with gracious promises 13 Gods love is perpetual to his church 18 The ample restauration of the church 24 The powerful deliverance out of captivity LIsten O isles unto me and hearken ye people from far The LORD hath called me from the womb from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name 2 And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword in the shadow of his hand hath he hid me and made me a polished shaft in his quiver hath he hid me 3 And said unto me Thou art my servant O Israel in whom I will be glorified 4 Then I said I have laboured in vain I have spent my strength for nought and in vain yet surely my judgement is with the LORD and ‖ Or my reward my work with my God 5 ¶ And now saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob again to him ‖ Or That Israel may be gathered to him and I may c. Though Israel be not gathered yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD and my God shall be my strength 6 And he said ‖ Or Art thou lighter then that thou shouldest c. LXI 1 The office of Christ 4 The forwardness 7 and blessings of the faithful THE * Luke 4.18 spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek he hath sent me to blinde up the broken-hearted to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them hat are bound 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD and the day of vengeance of our God to comfort all that mourn 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion to give unto them beauty for ashes the oyl of joy for mourning the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness that they might be called trees of righteousness the planting of the LORD that he might be glorified 4 ¶ And they shall * Chap. 58.12 build the old wastes they shall raise up the former desolations and they shall repart the waste cities the desolations of many generations 5 And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks and the sons of the alien shall be your plowman and your vine-dressers 6 But ye shall be named the priests of the LORD men shall call you the ministers of our God * Chap. 60.6 ye

XLVIII 1 The judgement of Moab 7 for their pride 11 for their security 14 for their carnal confidence 26 and for their contempt of God and his people 47 The restauration of Moab AGainst Moab thus saith the LORD of hosts the God of Israel Wo unto Nebo for it is spoiled Kiriathaim is confounded and taken ‖ Or the high place Misgab is confounded and dismayed 2 There shall be no more praise of Moab in Heshbon they have devised evil against it come and let us cut it off from being a nation also thou shalt ‖ Or be brought to silence be cut down O Madmen the sword shall † Heb. go after thee pursue thee 3 A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim spoiling and great destruction 4 Moab is destroyed her little ones have caused a cry to be heard 5 For in the going up of Luhith † Heb. weeping with weeping * Isa 15.5 continual weeping shall go up for in the going down of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction 6 Flee save your lives and be like ‖ Or a naked tree the * Chap. 17.6 heath in the wilderness 7 ¶ For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures thou shalt also be taken and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his * Chap. 49.3 priests and his princes together 8 And the spoiler shall come upon every city and no city shall escape the valley also shall perish and the plain shall be destroyed as the LORD hath spoken 9 Give wings unto Moab that it may flee and get away for the cities thereof shall be desolate without any to dwell therein 10 Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD ‖ Or negligently deceitfully and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from bloud 11 ¶ Moab hath been at ease from his youth and he hath settled on his lees and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel neither hath he gone into captivity therefore his taste † Heb. stood remained in him and his sent is not changed 12 Therefore behold the days come saith the LORD that I will send unto him wanderers that shall cause him to wander and shall empty his vessels and break their bottles 13 And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh as the house of Israel was ashamed of * 1 Kin. 12 29. Beth-el their confidence 14 ¶ How say ye We are mighty and strong men for the war 15 Moab is spoiled and gone up out of her cities and † Heb. the choice of his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter saith the King whose name is the LORD of hosts 16 The calamity of Moab is near to come and his affliction hasteth fast 17 All ye that are about him bemoan him and all ye that know his name say How is the strong staff broken and the beautiful rod 18 Thou daughter that dost inhabit Dibon come down from thy glory and sit in thirst for the spoiler of Moab shall come upon thee and he shall destroy thy strong holds 19 O † Heb. inhabitress inhabitant of Aroer stand by the way and espy ask him that fleeth and her that escapeth and say What is done 20 Moab is confounded for it is broken down * Isa 16.7 howl and cry tell ye it in Amon that Moab is spoiled 21 And judgement is come upon the plain countrey upon Holon and upon Jahazah and upon Mephaath 22 And upon Dibon and upon Nebo and upon Beth-diblathaim 23 And upon Kiriathaim and upon Beth-gamul and upon Beth-meon 24 And upon Kerioth and upon Bozrah and upon all the cities of the land of Moab far or near 25 The horn of Moab is cut off and his arm is broken saith the LORD 26 ¶ Make ye him drunken for he magnified himself against the LORD Moab also shall wallow in his vomit and he also shall be in derision 27 For was not Israel a derision unto thee was he found among theeves for since thou spakest of him thou ‖ Or moveast thy self skippedst for joy 28 O ye that dwell in Moab leave the cities and dwell in the rock and be like the dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the holes mouth 29 We have heard the * Isa 16.6 c. pride of Moab he is exceeding proud his loftiness and his arrogancy and his pride and the haughtiness of his heart 30 I know his wrath saith the LORD but it shall not be so ‖ Or those on whom he stayeth Heb. his bars do not right his lies shall not so effect it 31 Therefore will I howl for Moab and I will cry out for all Moab mine heart shall mourn for the men of Kir-heres 32 O vine of Sibmah I will weep for thee with the weeping of Jazer thy plants are gone over the sea they reach even to the sea of Jazer the spoiler is faln upon thy summer-fruits and upon thy vintage 33 And * Isa 16.10 joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field and from the land of Moab and I have caused wine to fail from the wine-presses none shall tread with shouting their shouting shall be no shouting 34 From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh and even unto Jahaz have they uttered their voice * Isa 15.5 6. from Zoar even unto Horonaim as an heifer of three years old for the waters also of Nimrim shall be † Heb. desolations desolate 35 Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab saith the LORD him that offereth in the high places and him that burneth incense to his gods 36 Therefore mine heart shall sound for Moab like pipes and mine heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres because the riches that he hath gotten is perished 37 For * Isa 15.2 3. every head shall be bald and every beard † Heb. diminished clipt upon all the hands shall be cuttings and upon the loyns sackcloth 38 There shall be lamentation generally upon all the hous-●ops of Moab and in the streets thereof for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein is no pleasure saith the LORD 39 They shall howl saying How is it broken down how hath Moab turned the † Heb. neck back with shame so shall Moab be a derision and a dismaying to all them about him 40 For thus saith the LORD Behold he shall
Agarenes that seek wisdom upon earth the merchants of Meran and of Theman the ‖ Or expounders authours of sables and searchers out of understanding none of these have known the way of wisdom or remember her paths 24 O Israel how great is the house of God and how large is the place of his possession 25 Great and hath none end high and unmeasurable 26 There were the giants famous from the beginning that were of so great stature and so expert in war 27 Those did not the Lord choose neither gave he the way of knowledge unto them 28 But they were destroyed because they had no wisdom and perished through their own foolishness 29 Who hath gone up into heaven and taken her and brought her down from the clouds 30 Who hath gone over the sea and found her and will bring her for pure gold 31 No man knoweth her way nor thinketh of her path 32 But he that knoweth all things knoweth her and hath found her out with his understanding he that prepared the earth for evermore hath filled it with fourfooted beasts 33 He that sendeth forth light and it goeth calleth it again and it obeyeth him with fear 34 The stars shined in their watches and rejoyced when he called them they say Here we be and so with cheerfulness they shewed light unto him that made them 35 This is our God and there shall none other be accounted of in comparision of him 36 He hath found out all the way of knowledge and hath given it unto Jacob his servant and to Israel his beloved 37 * Prov. 8.31 Joh. 1.14 Afterward did he shew himself upon earth and conversed with men CHAP. IV. 1 The book of commandments is that wisdom which was commanded in the former chapter 25 The Jews are moved to patience and to hope for the deliverance THis is the book of the commandments of God and the law that endureth for ever all they that keep it shall come to life but such as leave it shall die 2 Turn thee O Jacob and take hold of it walk † Gr. to the shining before the light thereof in the presence of the light thereof that thou mayest be illuminated 3 Give not thine honour to another nor the things that are profitable unto thee to a strange nation 4 O Israel happy are we for things that are pleasing to God are made known unto us 5 Be of good cheer my people the memorial of Israel 6 Ye were sold to the nations not for your destruction but because ye moved God to wrath ye were delivered unto the enemies 7 For ye provoked him that made you by * 1 Cor 10.20 sacrificing unto devils and not to God 8 Ye have forgotten the everlasting God that brought you up and ye have grieved Jerusalem that nursed you 9 For when she saw the wrath of God coming upon you she said Hearken O ye that dwell about Sion God hath brought upon me great mourning 10 For I saw the captivity of my sons and daughters which the Everlasting brought upon them 11 With joy did I nourish them but sent them away with weeping and mourning 12 Let no man rejoyce over me a widow and forsaken of many who for the sins of my children am left desolate because they departed from the law of God 13 They knew not his statutes nor walked in the ways of his commandments nor trode in the paths ‖ Or of his discipline in righteousness of discipline in his righteousness 14 Let them that dwell about Sion come and remember ye the captivity of my sons and daughters which the Evelasting hath brought upon them 15 For he hath brought a nation upon them from far a shameless nation and of a strange language who neither reverenced old man nor pitied childe 16 These have carried away the dear-beloved children of the widow and left her that was alone desolate without daughters 17 But what can I help you 18 For he that brought these plagues upon you will deliver you from the hands of your enemies 19 Go your way O my children go your way for I am left desolate 20 I have put off the clothing of ‖ Or prosperity peace and put upon me the sackcloth of my prayer I will cry unto the Everlasting ‖ Or in the time of mine affliction * Ps 116.2 137.7 in my days 21 Be of good cheer O my children cry unto the Lord and he shall deliver you from the power and hand of the enemies 22 For my hope is in the Everlasting that he will save you and joy is come unto me from the holy One because of the mercy which shall soon come unto you from the Everlasting our Saviour 23 For I sent you out with mourning and weeping But God will give you to me again with joy and gladness for ever 24 Like as now the neighbours of Sion have seen your captivity so shall they see shortly your salvation from our God which shall come upon you with great glory and brightness of the Everlasting 25 My children suffer patiently the wrath that is come upon you from God for thine enemy hath persecuted thee but shortly thou shalt see his destruction and shalt tread upon his neck 26 ‖ Or My darlings My delicate ones have gone rough ways and were taken away as a flock caught of the enemies 27 Be of good comfort O my children and cry unto God for you shall be remembred of him that brought these things upon you 28 For as it was your minde to go astray from God so being returned seek him ten times more 29 For he that hath brought these plagues upon you shall bring you everlasting joy again with your salvation 30 Take a good heart O Jerusalem for he that gave thee that name will comfort thee 31 Miserable are they that afflicted thee and rejoyced at thy fall 32 Miserable are the cities which thy children served miserable is she that received thy sons 33 For as she rejoyced at thy ruine and was glad of thy fall so shall she be grieved for her own desolation 34 For I will take away the rejoycing of her great multitude and her pride shall be turned into mourning 35 For fire shall come upon her from the Everlasting long to endure and she shall be inhabited of devils for a great time 36 O Jerusalem look about thee towards the east and behold the joy that cometh unto thee from God 37 Lo thy sons come whom thou sentest away they come gathered together from the east to the west by the word of the holy One rejoycing in the glory of God CHAP. V. 1 Jerusalem is moved to rejoyce 5 and to behold their return out of captivity with glory PUt off O Jerusalem the garment of thy mourning and affliction and put on the comeliness of the glory that cometh from God for ever 2 Cast about thee a double garment of the righteousness which cometh from God
