his_o majesty_n or_o for_o want_n of_o make_v his_o glory_n the_o rule_n and_o end_v of_o our_o prayer_n this_o first_o petition_n therefore_o require_v that_o the_o heart_n be_v due_o affect_v with_o the_o glory_n of_o that_o name_n which_o it_o invoke_v and_o due_o act_v and_o direct_v to_o that_o glory_n and_o that_o this_o petition_n be_v draw_v through_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o our_o request_n these_o ensue_a consideration_n therefore_o arise_v from_o the_o place_n of_o this_o petition_n first_o in_o this_o prayer_n 1._o as_o thou_o pray_v that_o his_o name_n be_v hallow_v so_o in_o all_o heart_n with_o a_o awful_a and_o humble_a carriage_n both_o of_o thy_o inward_a and_o outward_a man_n as_o in_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o great_a and_o glorious_a king_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n sanctify_v he_o in_o his_o authority_n and_o sovereignty_n by_o call_v upon_o he_o in_o obedience_n to_o his_o command_n and_o will_n who_o have_v command_v it_o by_o acknowledgement_n of_o thy_o dependence_n upon_o he_o sanctify_v he_o in_o his_o power_n and_o all-sufficiencie_n by_o cast_v thyself_o upon_o he_o who_o be_v mighty_a to_o save_o and_o to_o fulfil_v thy_o most_o extensive_a and_o large_a request_n sanctify_v he_o in_o his_o goodness_n and_o mercy_n which_o be_v infinite_a more_o large_a to_o pardon_v thy_o sin_n to_o supply_v thy_o want_n and_o to_o fill_v thou_o with_o all_o good_a thing_n than_o thy_o necessity_n or_o the_o wide_a compass_n of_o thy_o soul_n can_v be_v to_o ask_v sanctify_v he_o in_o his_o truth_n and_o faithfulness_n by_o a_o recumbence_n and_o rest_v upon_o his_o promise_n that_o no_o one_o thing_n shall_v fail_v of_o all_o the_o good_a thing_n that_o he_o have_v speak_v that_o no_o man_n shall_v seek_v his_o face_n in_o vain_a that_o he_o that_o have_v say_v whatsoever_o thou_o shall_v ask_v in_o his_o son_n name_n he_o will_v give_v it_o that_o have_v grant_v we_o access_n unto_o he_o upon_o the_o purchase_n of_o his_o son_n blood_n will_v in_o no_o sort_n
reject_v those_o request_n which_o he_o himself_o have_v command_v thou_o to_o make_v 2._o as_o thou_o pray_v in_o the_o first_o place_n that_o his_o name_n may_v be_v sanctify_v so_o let_v that_o be_v the_o end_n of_o all_o thy_o request_n be_v sure_o thou_o ask_v not_o any_o thing_n which_o may_v not_o be_v suitable_a to_o that_o end_n much_o less_o contrary_a to_o it_o and_o in_o what_o thou_o ask_v agreeable_a to_o that_o end_n let_v it_o be_v likewise_o for_o that_o end_n ask_v not_o thy_o daily_a bread_n for_o thy_o lust_n but_o that_o thou_o may_v glorify_v he_o by_o it_o and_o this_o that_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v thy_o chief_a end_n 3._o as_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v the_o chief_a of_o thy_o desire_n so_o consequent_o must_v it_o be_v the_o measure_n of_o they_o that_o which_o be_v the_o chief_a end_n must_v control_v and_o over-rule_v all_o other_o subordinate_a end_n if_o they_o come_v in_o competition_n with_o it_o for_o as_o it_o be_v of_o great_a value_n so_o it_o be_v of_o great_a force_n whatsoever_o therefore_o thou_o ask_v let_v it_o be_v still_o with_o subordination_n to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o be_v rather_o content_v to_o be_v disappoint_v in_o thy_o other_o inferior_a end_n than_o that_o this_o shall_v in_o the_o least_o degree_n be_v disappoint_v only_o know_v and_o rest_v assure_v of_o this_o truth_n that_o such_o be_v the_o great_a goodness_n and_o wisdom_n of_o god_n that_o he_o have_v place_v all_o those_o request_n which_o be_v of_o absolute_a necessity_n to_o be_v grant_v thou_o in_o such_o a_o order_n and_o path_n that_o the_o grant_n of_o they_o always_o consist_v with_o his_o glory_n and_o while_o thou_o seek_v they_o thou_o can_v not_o miss_v of_o glorify_v he_o and_o therefore_o thou_o may_v be_v sure_a the_o make_n of_o his_o glory_n the_o measure_n of_o thy_o request_n shall_v never_o disappoint_v thou_o in_o they_o such_o as_o be_v the_o pardon_v thy_o sin_n the_o deliver_v thou_o from_o be_v final_o overcome_v with_o spiritual_a evil_n but_o thy_o other_o request_n for_o temporal_a benefit_n or_o deliverance_n or_o the_o particular_a circumstance_n of_o those_o other_o as_o the_o recompense_v thy_o love_n of_o his_o glory_n above_o thy_o own_o particular_a advantage_n and_o thou_o serve_v a_o wise_a master_n that_o will_v recompense_v thou_o in_o such_o a_o kind_n or_o at_o such_o a_o season_n as_o shall_v be_v more_o suitable_a and_o more_o comfortable_a than_o if_o thou_o have_v be_v thy_o own_o carver_n and_o this_o thou_o shall_v clear_o and_o sensible_o find_v that_o which_o thou_o do_v in_o the_o first_o place_n ask_v be_v grant_v in_o kind_n viz._n the_o honour_n of_o god_n and_o that_o which_o thou_o do_v ask_v for_o thyself_o though_o deny_v in_o kind_n be_v the_o more_o grant_v in_o value_n thy_o own_o particular_a benefit_n our_o saviour_n pray_v that_o that_o bitter_a cup_n of_o death_n may_v pass_v from_o he_o yet_o with_o submission_n to_o the_o sometime_o remove_v the_o snare_n out_o of_o our_o way_n sometime_o lead_v we_o another_o way_n that_o we_o miss_v the_o snare_n he_o overrule_v and_o restrain_v this_o rage_a sea_n of_o our_o own_o corruption_n and_o as_o our_o saviour_n do_v to_o the_o wind_n and_o sea_n command_v they_o peace_n and_o be_v still_o he_o do_v by_o the_o same_o spirit_n strengthen_v and_o enable_v our_o heart_n to_o resist_v and_o oppose_v and_o subdue_v those_o temptation_n that_o rise_v from_o within_o and_o come_v from_o without_o and_o this_o grace_n of_o his_o he_o owe_v not_o to_o we_o it_o be_v mere_o
