of_o that_o will_v be_v no_o motive_n not_o to_o judge_n because_o it_o will_v not_o seem_v a_o evil_n to_o the_o person_n judge_v i_o say_v principal_o moreover_o i_o have_v mention_v the_o defect_n of_o be_v too_o prone_a in_o general_a to_o pass_v judgement_n though_o it_o may_v happen_v on_o the_o good_a side_n and_o so_o to_o declare_v one_o judgement_n and_o to_o judge_v rash_o or_o false_o though_o still_o on_o the_o good_a side_n on_o this_o occasion_n as_o belong_v to_o our_o judgement_n to_o suggest_v unto_o you_o that_o they_o may_v be_v occasional_o forbid_v too_o and_o be_v defect_n infirmity_n all_o the_o forementioned_a particular_n if_o they_o can_v be_v suppose_v to_o proceed_v not_o from_o these_o bad_a principle_n but_o from_o good_a viz._n charity_n though_o imprudent_a and_o mistake_v though_o they_o may_v be_v immediate_o hurtful_a and_o do_v mischief_n yet_o they_o be_v not_o vicious_a faulty_a wicked_a but_o more_o of_o this_o when_o we_o come_v to_o the_o cause_n of_o these_o forbid_a judge_n here_o especial_o of_o rash_a and_o false_a one_o chap._n iii_o sect._n i._n but_o what_o judgement_n be_v here_o not_o forbid_v though_o they_o may_v be_v apt_a to_o be_v mistake_v for_o those_o which_o be_v and_o in_o general_a these_o two_o viz._n 1._o not_o a_o observe_v or_o judge_v out_o of_o charity_n a_o sincere_a and_o unmixed_a charity_n for_o sometime_o sure_o we_o may_v exercise_v our_o charity_n both_o in_o good_a and_o bad_a judgement_n the_o principal_a thing_n here_o forbid_v be_v pass_v our_o judgement_n out_o of_o bad_a principle_n such_o as_o be_v ultimate_a selfishness_n malice_n hatred_n pride_n envy_n etc._n etc._n but_o then_o the_o contrary_n can_v be_v forbid_v to_o pass_v judgement_n out_o of_o a_o good_a one_o and_o the_o only_a good_a one_o viz._n charity_n or_o goodwill_n unless_o all_o principle_n of_o a_o man_n action_n be_v forbid_v sect._n ii_o nor_o second_o be_v it_o ever_o forbid_a to_o a_o person_n when_o there_o be_v more_o good_a effect_n of_o his_o do_v this_o than_o of_o his_o omission_n nay_o then_o contrariwise_a he_o be_v command_v to_o do_v it_o the_o first_o respect_v our_o principle_n or_o end_n the_o second_o our_o prudence_n or_o the_o effect_n the_o first_o of_o these_o may_v be_v without_o the_o second_o viz._n a_o man_n may_v give_v his_o judgement_n and_o opinion_n concern_v person_n and_o action_n out_o of_o charity_n and_o very_o good_a intention_n of_o do_v the_o most_o good_a unlimited_o in_o general_n whether_o it_o be_v particular_o apply_v to_o ourselves_o or_o other_o or_o both_o and_o yet_o as_o far_o as_o we_o see_v the_o effect_n of_o it_o may_v be_v bad_a a_o man_n may_v both_o inward_o and_o outward_o commend_v and_o discommend_v person_n unreasonable_o with_o a_o very_a good_a meaning_n through_o want_n of_o information_n and_o so_o the_o second_o may_v be_v without_o the_o first_o too_o that_o be_v there_o may_v be_v very_o good_a effect_n and_o consequence_n of_o a_o man_n pass_v and_o pronounce_v his_o judgement_n when_o the_o principle_n may_v be_v bad_a enough_o a_o man_n may_v approve_v or_o condemn_v what_o be_v true_o good_a or_o bad_a in_o other_o and_o consequent_o dispose_v himself_o and_o other_o to_o a_o imitation_n of_o the_o one_o and_o a_o eschew_v of_o the_o other_o especial_o if_o he_o be_v a_o person_n of_o some_o esteem_n and_o yet_o he_o may_v do_v the_o first_o out_o of_o fear_n or_o flattery_n or_o because_o it_o be_v like_o somewhat_o in_o himself_o not_o because_o it_o be_v a_o quality_n or_o thing_n real_o profitable_a to_o the_o world_n and_o therefore_o will_v have_v it_o more_o propagate_v and_o the_o second_o out_o of_o envy_n hatred_n etc._n etc._n not_o because_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n mischievous_a and_o hurtful_a to_o the_o person_n himself_o to_o other_o or_o displease_v to_o god_n almighty_a in_o sum_n whensoever_o it_o do_v appear_v to_o any_o man_n that_o it_o will_v be_v worse_o if_o he_o do_v not_o pass_v his_o judgement_n that_o there_o will_v be_v worse_a consequence_n thereof_o than_o if_o he_o do_v any_o where_o to_o other_o as_o well_o as_o himself_o consider_v himself_o but_o as_o any_o other_o person_n just_a in_o the_o same_o circumstance_n and_o to_o do_v it_o for_o this_o very_a reason_n and_o cause_n this_o common_a good_a this_o i_o say_v be_v not_o here_o prohibit_v sect._n iii_o three_o but_o more_o particular_o therefore_o in_o the_o first_o place_n it_o be_v not_o universal_o prohibit_v here_o to_o pass_v judgement_n in_o the_o case_n and_o circumstance_n i_o have_v former_o mention_v and_o innumerable_a more_o if_o we_o descend_v to_o particular_n it_o be_v not_o it_o be_v much_o permit_v nay_o enjoin_v to_o governor_n somewhat_o less_o to_o private_a person_n laudable_a it_o be_v in_o man_n to_o have_v regard_n to_o and_o observe_v the_o quality_n and_o action_n general_o of_o those_o that_o be_v their_o superior_n to_o compare_v their_o own_o with_o and_o see_v their_o defect_n and_o to_o be_v excite_v to_o amendment_n and_o imitation_n to_o look_v at_o and_o to_o judge_v their_o own_o fault_n in_o other_o if_o thereby_o they_o find_v themselves_o dispose_v to_o see_v they_o more_o clear_o in_o themselves_o and_o to_o be_v put_v in_o mind_n of_o they_o laudable_a it_o be_v to_o observe_v good_a quality_n in_o other_o that_o we_o may_v rejoice_v in_o they_o and_o be_v glad_a to_o see_v any_o thing_n good_a in_o the_o world_n and_o be_v able_a to_o encourage_v it_o by_o a_o discreet_a observation_n iu._n four_o nor_o in_o the_o next_o place_n be_v it_o prohibit_v universal_o to_o pass_v judgement_n on_o the_o worst_a side_n to_o accuse_v or_o condemn_v for_o it_o be_v permit_v to_o the_o overseer_n of_o other_o manner_n and_o instructor_n and_o teacher_n of_o good_a manner_n and_o to_o friend_n who_o care_n and_o industry_n for_o the_o good_a of_o those_o who_o they_o thus_o judge_v it_o will_v excite_v to_o those_o that_o will_v free_v themselves_o from_o too_o partial_a a_o admiration_n of_o person_n to_o those_o who_o have_v a_o mind_n and_o design_n to_o be_v more_o accurate_o good_a in_o thing_n of_o more_o great_a and_o public_a concernment_n
usual_o in_o our_o judgement_n of_o ourselves_o or_o our_o friend_n or_o those_o we_o love_v and_o favour_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a those_o in_o who_o we_o attend_v to_o or_o observe_v what_o be_v bad_a or_o imperfect_a only_a their_o bad_a quality_n or_o action_n the_o bad_a effect_n and_o consequence_n of_o these_o and_o not_o at_o all_o or_o but_o little_a of_o what_o be_v good_a we_o judge_v they_o much_o worse_a than_o they_o be_v judge_v they_o to_o have_v do_v a_o great_a many_o and_o very_o bad_a action_n to_o have_v a_o great_a many_o and_o very_o bad_a quality_n but_o none_o or_o very_o few_o good_a this_o as_o it_o be_v the_o most_o mischievous_a so_o it_o be_v the_o more_o frequent_a extreme_a man_n be_v now_o so_o far_o from_o that_o humane_a and_o christian_a temper_n of_o universal_a kindness_n and_o goodwill_n that_o they_o be_v but_o very_o few_o they_o care_v for_o or_o to_o who_o they_o be_v dispose_v friendly_a in_o comparison_n of_o those_o they_o do_v not_o this_o again_o may_v sometime_o proceed_v from_o mere_a necessary_a ignorance_n and_o want_n of_o information_n for_o sometime_o a_o man_n may_v have_v see_v or_o otherwise_o know_v much_o good_a by_o a_o man_n and_o none_o or_o little_a bad_a either_o because_o the_o man_n want_v his_o proper_a temptation_n or_o through_o dissimulation_n of_o his_o temper_n and_o inclination_n or_o for_o other_o reason_n and_o on_o the_o contrary_a a_o man_n by_o himself_o or_o other_o may_v know_v many_o bad_a thing_n by_o a_o person_n and_o little_a good_a when_o he_o may_v have_v much_o in_o he_o which_o he_o have_v never_o the_o opportunity_n to_o observe_v or_o the_o mean_v otherwise_o to_o know_v but_o it_o mostwhat_a proceed_v from_o some_o undue_a disposition_n of_o will_n and_o when_o a_o man_n be_v partial_o not_o just_o affect_v to_o person_n and_o as_o he_o ought_v he_o be_v either_o please_v or_o displease_v with_o person_n more_o than_o in_o general_n he_o may_v observe_v they_o to_o deserve_v or_o merit_v thus_o you_o shall_v but_o too_o often_o see_v to_o give_v instance_n of_o that_o side_n which_o be_v most_o to_o be_v avoid_v that_o man_n will_v take_v more_o notice_n of_o and_o better_o remember_v one_o bad_a action_n in_o a_o person_n than_o twenty_o good_a one_o and_o consequent_o this_o shall_v procure_v he_o more_o disreputation_n or_o disesteem_v than_o they_o this_o not_o because_o they_o see_v the_o truth_n of_o what_o they_o affirm_v but_o because_o they_o will_v have_v it_o true_a not_o because_o their_o understanding_n and_o perception_n go_v before_o their_o judgement_n and_o their_o natural_a affection_n to_o truth_n make_v they_o so_o judge_v but_o some_o other_o disposition_n of_o will_n such_o as_o i_o have_v so_o often_o name_v activity_n curiosity_n pride_n hatred_n envy_n anger_n contempt_n flattery_n etc._n etc._n whereas_o we_o shall_v be_v very_o careful_a to_o possess_v our_o mind_n with_o such_o a_o serious_a love_n of_o the_o we_o shall_v love_v not_o only_o to_o speak_v truth_n without_o neighbour_n but_o of_o our_o neighbour_n too_o we_o shall_v look_v upon_o truth_n as_o a_o most_o sacred_a thing_n ever_o to_o be_v inviolable_a and_o to_o be_v the_o main_a if_o not_o the_o only_a perfection_n of_o our_o judgement_n without_o which_o we_o have_v better_o have_v none_o at_o all_o we_o have_v better_o be_v utter_o ignorant_a and_o never_o judge_v at_o all_o than_o do_v it_o erroneous_o for_o by_o that_o mean_v our_o action_n and_o resolution_n be_v determine_v and_o direct_v amiss_o and_o be_v mischievous_o make_v use_n of_o for_o be_v it_o not_o much_o better_a that_o we_o be_v ignorant_a and_o pass_v no_o judgement_n at_o all_o of_o person_n either_o of_o the_o quantity_n or_o quality_n of_o their_o perfection_n and_o imperfection_n than_o by_o be_v mistake_v therein_o sometime_o to_o neglect_v or_o punish_v the_o innocent_a and_o well-deserving_a and_o to_o be_v beneficent_a and_o bestow_v good_a thing_n upon_o those_o that_o ill_o deserve_v and_o make_v ill_a use_n of_o they_o in_o few_o word_n man_n judge_v false_o because_o they_o will_v not_o judge_v true_o or_o be_v not_o please_v therewith_o or_o at_o least_o but_o little_a and_o in_o such_o degree_n only_o that_o it_o be_v not_o effectual_a for_o it_o be_v not_o every_o degree_n of_o love_n to_o the_o truth_n that_o will_v secure_v a_o man_n from_o false_a judgement_n of_o thing_n and_o here_o of_o person_n but_o it_o must_v be_v a_o great_a degree_n of_o love_n thereto_o than_o to_o the_o thing_n which_o at_o any_o particular_a time_n may_v be_v a_o temptation_n to_o the_o contrary_n and_o if_o we_o will_v be_v always_o secure_a we_o must_v have_v a_o strong_a
we_o shall_v judge_v one_o or_o other_o way_n we_o be_v to_o suspend_v our_o judgement_n that_o which_o be_v usual_o express_v by_o say_v we_o do_v not_o know_v we_o can_v tell_v it_o may_v or_o it_o may_v not_o be_v so_o indeed_o if_o we_o apprehend_v the_o possibility_n but_o whether_o it_o be_v or_o be_v not_o we_o be_v ignorant_a in_o our_o judgement_n concern_v some_o thing_n we_o may_v sometime_o follow_v our_o inclination_n both_o without_o and_o contrary_a to_o some_o small_a reason_n but_o then_o they_o must_v be_v very_o strong_a such_o as_o be_v natural_a and_o bear_v with_o indeed_o seem_v to_o be_v a_o sign_n of_o great_a reason_n for_o that_o judgement_n viz._n of_o this_o inclination_n be_v impress_v by_o god_n and_o consequent_o he_o be_v good_a that_o it_o be_v true_a and_o useful_a such_o be_v man_n strong_a inclination_n notwithstanding_o all_o appearance_n of_o reason_n though_o but_o such_o and_z and_z real_a deceit_n to_o the_o contrary_a which_o may_v be_v bring_v by_o cavil_v man_n to_o believe_v god_n existence_n his_o justice_n to_o punish_v and_o reward_v immortality_n of_o soul_n distinction_n of_o action_n right_a and_o wrong_n universal_a goodness_n our_o great_a perfection_n and_o ultimate_a self-love_n contrary_a to_o the_o truth_n of_o our_o sense_n etc._n etc._n these_o god_n have_v anticipate_v we_o withal_o but_o in_o our_o
