A88697 Lanseter's lance, for Edwards'es gangrene: or, A ripping up, and laying open some rotten, putrified, corrupt, stinking matter in Mr. Thomas Edwards his Gangren, or book intituled, The second part of Gangrena. Wherein, amongst others, he hath abused and belied Mr. John Lanceter, calling him pedler, and saying, that he opened the whole book of Ezra, at a privat meeting in stead of opening his pack, which is proved false, and other things also. So that in consideration of the particulars, judicious men may well conceive the cause of his Gangren to be his blind ignorance of the truth, and his mad malice against the wel-affected conscientious people. Published according to order. Lanseter, John. 1646 (1646) Wing L425B; Thomason E354_17; ESTC R201101 16,213 24

the_o reader_n courteous_a reader_n when_o mr._n thomas_n edward_n his_o book_n against_o independency_n and_o toleration_n come_v forth_o about_o four_o year_n ago_o o_o what_o boast_v there_o be_v then_o among_o the_o prelatical_a party_n and_o temporizer_n as_o if_o the_o day_n have_v be_v their_o own_o but_o when_o the_o woman_n come_v and_o strike_v the_o nail_n of_o independency_n into_o for_o the_o rip_v up_o and_o open_v of_o which_o this_o lance_n be_v make_v whereby_o the_o christian_a reader_n may_v see_v that_o the_o bitter_a effect_n of_o persecution_n or_o want_v of_o public_a gangrene_n which_o endanger_v both_o his_o body_n and_o soul_n and_o other_o also_o for_o he_o himself_o acknowledge_v in_o his_o preface_n that_o this_o his_o second_o part_n be_v of_o the_o same_o not_o than_o he_o will_v be_v that_o which_o he_o be_v not_o as_o may_v appear_v by_o this_o follow_a relation_n for_o this_o second_o part_n of_o his_o gangrene_n come_v to_o the_o hand_n of_o mr._n john_n lanseter_n who_o peruse_v the_o same_o find_v it_o to_o be_v a_o book_n of_o tale_n not_o so_o true_a as_o new_a and_o among_o the_o rest_n he_o find_v a_o letter_n date_v from_o clare_n in_o be_v lie_v relation_n as_o this_o be_v which_o say_v m._n edward_n be_v a_o true_a copy_n of_o a_o letter_n write_v from_o a_o worthy_a and_o godly_a minister_n in_o suffolk_n in_o the_o name_n and_o by_o the_o consent_n and_o agreement_n of_o other_o minister_n of_o the_o county_n at_o a_o meeting_n of_o they_o and_o send_v up_o by_o the_o hand_n of_o a_o godly_a minister_n in_o those_o part_n word_n of_o mouth_n and_o by_o a_o faithful_a relater_n after_o the_o letter_n he_o say_v upon_o conference_n with_o the_o minister_n who_o bring_v up_o this_o letter_n he_o relate_v these_o follow_a of_o other_o lanseter_n that_o be_v all_o one_o see_v you_o be_v the_o divulg_a thereof_o and_o this_o book_n be_v you_o sir_n say_v lanseter_n what_o if_o these_o thing_n be_v prove_v false_a how_o then_o say_v edward_n it_o will_v not_o lie_v upon_o i_o but_o upon_o those_o from_o who_o i_o have_v the_o relation_n sir_n say_v lanseter_n i_o pray_v you_o tell_v i_o their_o name_n i_o will_v
