A89973 A new found stratagem framed in the old forge of Machivilisme, and put upon the inhabitants of the county of Essex. To destroy the army under his Excellency Sir Thomas Fairfax, and to inslave all the free-born of England on a sudden: manifested and laid down, in certain animadversions, upon a clandestine, illegall petition, contrived, made, and privatly printed, by a destructive party in London: and then by them sent down to the ministers of the county of Essex, to publish as on the last Lords day, 4. April, to the people, with directions to take their subscriptions in two sheets of paper: which being done: so many of the subscribers as can, are to be desired to meet at Stratford Langton, the 18. instant Aprill, and so to come and present the same to both Houses, as the petition and sense of the whole county :whereas it was never propounded to the county, nor ever heard of among them, before it came down ready in print, from London, to be published by their ministers, in there severall parishes. With certain observations and cautions on the same, conducing to the information, and publick good of the whole Kingdome. 1647 (1647) Wing N641; Thomason E384_11; ESTC R201451 8,787 15

have_v have_v not_o they_o subdue_v our_o enemy_n and_o remove_v our_o fear_n and_o cause_v we_o to_o dwell_v in_o safety_n and_o be_v not_o they_o a_o content_v patient_a well_o govern_v people_n have_v as_o great_a need_n of_o this_o army_n as_o we_o have_v ever_o have_v for_o it_o be_v evident_a and_o all_o man_n may_v see_v that_o our_o native_a right_n and_o liberty_n be_v now_o in_o more_o hazard_n than_o they_o be_v at_o the_o first_o and_o that_o we_o be_v more_o in_o jeoperdy_o of_o they_o by_o a_o close_a traitorous_a party_n our_o pretend_a friend_n than_o we_o be_v by_o our_o public_a profess_a foe_n and_o our_o great_a and_o most_o dangerous_a enemy_n be_v now_o they_o of_o our_o own_o house_n sweet_a friend_n i_o be_o a_o mere_a stranger_n to_o you_o but_o one_o that_o be_o a_o true_a lover_n of_o my_o country_n and_o therefore_o think_v good_a as_o a_o member_n of_o the_o same_o body_n politic_a with_o you_o to_o give_v you_o a_o few_o animadversion_n with_o some_o caution_n and_o observation_n concern_v the_o subtle_a and_o deceitful_a dissemble_a practice_n wherewith_o your_o homebred_a adversary_n go_v about_o to_o make_v you_o instrument_n of_o your_o own_o misery_n and_o mischief_n and_o last_o mark_v this_o i_o beseech_v you_o and_o consider_v it_o serious_o why_o can_v the_o parliament_n as_o well_o send_v over_o those_o officer_n and_o therefore_o so_o far_o delude_v you_o as_o to_o draw_v you_o to_o petition_n for_o the_o disband_n of_o this_o army_n no_o both_o for_o your_o honour_n and_o security_n discountenance_n and_o justness_n or_o necessity_n and_o whereas_o in_o the_o close_a of_o the_o petition_n it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o disband_n of_o this_o army_n be_v a_o plenary_a expedient_a against_o the_o worst_a in_o general_n that_o may_v be_v fear_v let_v they_o by_o no_o mean_n under_o pretence_n of_o benefit_n ease_n or_o advantage_n deceive_v you_o for_o it_o be_v apparent_a and_o will_v yet_o be_v make_v more_o manifest_a that_o the_o disband_n or_o otherwise_o dissolve_v of_o this_o army_n be_v the_o only_a plenary_a expedient_a to_o render_v we_o vassal_n and_o slave_n to_o the_o will_n of_o our_o enemy_n and_o to_o bring_v upon_o we_o the_o worst_a of_o misery_n and_o that_o sudden_o and_o insensible_o for_o alas_o we_o be_v at_o the_o pit_n brink_n and_o see_v not_o finis_fw-la
