the_o copy_n of_o a_o letter_n write_a by_o a_o friend_n to_o the_o laird_n of_o blaikwood_n and_o his_o answer_n with_o the_o copy_n of_o my_o lord_n angus_n letter_n from_o utrecht_n 21_o 11_o january_a 1692._o to_o my_o lord_n marquess_z of_o dowglas_n his_o father_n edinburgh_n 16_o august_n 1692._o sir_n my_o lord_n angvs_n death_n be_v general_o regret_v by_o all_o which_o occasion_n some_o that_o be_v better_o acquaint_v with_o his_o circumstance_n to_o reflect_v a_o little_a more_o free_o on_o his_o go_v to_o this_o campaign_n to_o serve_v under_o king_n william_n and_o on_o that_o part_n you_o be_v suppose_v to_o have_v have_v in_o it_o for_o they_o say_v that_o my_o lord_n marquis_n and_o his_o family_n be_v particular_o obliedge_v by_o king_n charles_n the_o second_o and_o king_n james_n his_o successor_n for_o such_o be_v king_n charles_n his_o concern_v and_o care_v of_o that_o noble_a and_o ancient_a family_n that_o in_o the_o year_n 1682._o he_o write_v to_o the_o lord_n chancellor_n and_o theasurer_n of_o scotland_n to_o know_v its_o present_a condition_n show_v that_o in_o regard_n of_o many_o signal_n service_n perform_v by_o that_o family_n to_o his_o royal_a predecessor_n he_o will_v not_o only_o see_v to_o its_o stand_n but_o to_o its_o continuance_n in_o a_o splendid_a and_o plentiful_a condition_n and_o that_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n he_o will_v take_v care_n of_o the_o breed_n of_o the_o marques_n son_n for_o which_o effect_n in_o the_o year_n 1684._o there_o be_v realie_a grant_v to_o my_o lord_n angus_n a_o pension_n of_o two_o hundred_o pound_v sterling_n and_o this_o pension_n king_n james_n in_o the_o year_n 1686._o be_v please_v to_o continue_v and_o also_o to_o order_v all_o the_o arrear_n thereof_o to_o be_v pay_v with_o two_o hundred_o pound_n sterling_n more_o by_o way_n of_o advance_v which_o be_v certain_o singular_a mark_n of_o the_o royal_a bounty_n of_o these_o two_o king_n and_o a_o very_a promise_a earnest_n of_o far_o great_a thing_n that_o my_o lord_n marquis_n may_v have_v expect_v from_o they_o to_o this_o it_o be_v also_o add_v that_o my_o lord_n angus_n himself_o be_v not_o so_o forward_o to_o have_v go_v to_o this_o campagne_n but_o do_v rather_o incline_v to_o prosecute_v his_o travel_n and_o that_o he_o write_v to_o you_o to_o obtain_v his_o father_n leave_n which_o as_o the_o event_n have_v happen_v have_v be_v indeed_o his_o wise_a and_o better_a course_n however_o these_o thing_n do_v a_o little_a burden_n both_o the_o marquis_n and_o you_o and_o some_o be_v please_v to_o express_v themselves_o more_o free_o by_o declare_v that_o they_o can_v comprehend_v what_o can_v have_v move_v the_o marquis_n to_o be_v so_o forward_o in_o this_o affair_n see_v that_o notwithstanding_o of_o the_o eminent_a character_n of_o his_o family_n and_o that_o he_o himself_o be_v among_o the_o first_o to_o advance_v king_n william_n interest_n in_o scotland_n and_o do_v both_o venture_v his_o son_n to_o the_o army_n and_o put_v himself_o without_o regard_n to_o the_o low_a condition_n of_o his_o fortune_n to_o a_o considerable_a expense_n for_o his_o equippage_n yet_o it_o be_v visible_a enough_o that_o since_o the_o late_a revolution_n to_o this_o day_n the_o marquis_n have_v be_v acknowledge_v in_o nothing_o and_o neither_o place_n nor_o pension_n confer_v upon_o he_o it_o be_v like_o the_o marquis_n may_v be_v unwilling_a that_o this_o last_o part_n shall_v be_v notice_v as_o know_v that_o king_n william_n a_o stranger_n can_v be_v blame_v for_o this_o omission_n and_o that_o the_o distribution_n of_o favour_n depend_v often_o as_o much_o upon_o the_o minister_n as_o upon_o the_o prince_n but_o see_v these_o thing_n do_v furnish_v discourse_n i_o shall_v be_v content_a to_o hear_v from_o you_o such_o a_o clear_a and_o satisfy_a account_n as_o may_v enable_v i_o to_o do_v my_o lord_n and_o you_o the_o service_n in_o this_o occasion_n that_o you_o may_v very_o just_o expect_v from_o for_o the_o laird_n of_o blaikwood_n sir_n your_o humble_a servant_n m._n t_o s_o edinburgh_n 26_o august_n 1692._o sir_n i_o take_v it_o very_o kind_o that_o you_o do_v so_o far_o concern_v yourself_o in_o this_o affair_n touch_v my_o lord_n angus_n his_o loss_n if_o he_o be_v lose_v which_o you_o may_v be_v sure_a we_o be_v loath_a to_o believe_v be_v indeed_o irreparable_a and_o never_o enough_o to_o be_v regret_v and_o thence_o you_o and_o all_o equitable_a man_n may_v very_o well_o conclude_v that_o my_o lord_n his_o father_n have_v never_o venture_v he_o if_o the_o thing_n can_v possible_o have_v be_v evit_v but_o as_o he_o be_v the_o only_a son_n and_o hope_v of_o the_o family_n and_o have_v from_o his_o father_n extreme_a care_n and_o tenderness_n receive_v a_o suitable_a education_n so_o you_o see_v that_o his_o ripen_a year_n with_o the_o concurrence_n of_o other_o thing_n do_v present_a to_o he_o this_o occasion_n which_o not_o only_o he_o himself_o but_o all_o acquaint_v with_o the_o condition_n of_o his_o family_n judge_v very_o proper_a to_o recommend_v he_o to_o the_o king_n notice_n and_o favour_n and_o to_o introduce_v he_o to_o those_o advantage_n which_o his_o family_n stand_v so_o absolute_o in_o need_n of_o the_o only_o demur_v that_o stand_v in_o his_o father_n way_n be_v the_o hazard_n of_o his_o person_n and_o that_o do_v weigh_v so_o much_o with_o he_o and_o the_o principal_a friend_n of_o the_o family_n that_o though_o my_o lord_n angus_n be_v exceed_o earnest_a to_o have_v make_v the_o last_o summer_n campaigne_n yet_o his_o father_n do_v restrain_v he_o but_o as_o that_o restraint_n can_v not_o be_v make_v effectual_a without_o some_o insinuation_n of_o hope_n for_o the_o ensue_a year_n from_o those_o that_o be_v employ_v to_o deal_v with_o he_o so_o both_o together_o wought_v so_o powerful_o upon_o his_o boil_a spirit_n aspire_a so_o vehement_o to_o show_v himself_o worthy_a of_o his_o noble_a progenitor_n that_o at_o the_o return_n of_o this_o campaign_n it_o be_v utter_o impossible_a to_o make_v he_o defer_v any_o long_o and_o i_o be_o persuade_v that_o have_v the_o severe_a of_o his_o friend_n know_v his_o earnestness_n in_o this_o matter_n as_o well_o as_o his_o father_n and_o i_o do_v they_o will_v this_o day_n have_v be_v very_o far_o from_o add_v to_o his_o father_n affliction_n the_o least_o censure_n of_o his_o proceed_n i_o can_v tell_v you_o all_o particular_n but_o here_o be_v one_o i_o think_v may_v answer_v for_o all_o which_o be_v the_o copy_n of_o the_o letter_n he_o write_v to_o his_o father_n with_o his_o own_o hand_n in_o january_n last_o which_o indeed_o break_v his_o father_n to_o a_o consent_n and_o without_o which_o it_o be_v probable_a he_o have_v never_o be_v break_v this_o letter_n i_o do_v therefore_o transmit_v to_o you_o not_o doubt_v but_o since_o it_o be_v so_o powerful_a upon_o a_o tender_a father_n and_o all_o that_o see_v it_o to_o prevail_v for_o their_o consent_n it_o will_v now_o be_v satisfy_v to_o answer_v all_o the_o murmur_a that_o may_v arise_v on_o so_o sad_a a_o event_n i_o can_v acquaint_v you_o with_o other_o letter_n and_o passage_n whereby_o you_o may_v be_v convince_v that_o his_o desire_n if_o not_o comply_v with_o have_v certain_o break_v out_o into_o some_o more_o desperate_a resolution_n but_o this_o letter_n alone_o be_v too_o persuasive_a to_o need_v any_o other_o support_n it_o have_v please_v god_n in_o his_o high_a sovereignty_n to_o dispose_v otherways_o nor_o be_v hope_v but_o this_o only_o require_v our_o submission_n and_o i_o be_o persuade_v when_o all_o thing_n shall_v be_v consider_v all_o man_n will_v conclude_v that_o my_o lord_n angus_n conduct_n in_o this_o whole_a affair_n be_v so_o rational_a in_o every_o respect_n that_o it_o remain_v only_o to_o be_v lament_v that_o so_o fair_a appearance_n shall_v have_v be_v prevent_v by_o a_o death_n which_o tho'_o most_o honourable_a can_v never_o be_v too_o late_o and_o thus_o i_o leave_v you_o to_o peruse_v his_o letter_n herein_o enclose_v sir_n your_o humble_a servant_n will_n lawrie_n vtrecht_n 21_o 11_o january_a 1692._o my_o lord_n i_o can_v express_v the_o extreme_a trouble_n and_o grief_n it_o be_v to_o i_o to_o be_v so_o long_o without_o hear_v from_o your_o lordship_n since_o it_o be_v now_o near_o four_o month_n that_o neither_o mr._n cranstoun_n nor_o i_o have_v have_v the_o honour_n of_o one_o letter_n though_o we_o have_v write_v several_a time_n both_o of_o we_o so_o i_o be_o assure_v our_o letter_n must_v have_v be_v miscarry_v since_o the_o circumstance_n i_o be_o now_o under_o be_v so_o difficult_a and_o of_o so_o great_a importance_n both_o to_o i_o and_o if_o i_o dare_v say_v to_o your_o lordship_n also_o and_o the_o family_n i_o have_v the_o honour_n to_o
