shall_v agree_v very_o fit_o to_o wit_n that_o the_o ruin_n of_o all_o both_o great_a and_o small_a which_o shall_v consume_v the_o whole_a people_n draw_v near_o because_o that_o in_o such_o a_o overflow_a of_o ungodliness_n there_o be_v no_o hope_n of_o any_o release_n from_o god_n revenge_a hand_n to_o be_v look_v for_o moreover_o in_o these_o two_o verb_n to_o bow_v and_o to_o humble_a there_o be_v a_o elegant_a allude_v to_o the_o bow_n of_o themselves_o whereof_o he_o speak_v in_o the_o eight_o verse_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v they_o have_v bow_v down_o themselves_o to_o they_o soever_o we_o take_v for_o the_o meaning_n of_o the_o prophet_n be_v to_o teach_v that_o god_n can_v be_v appease_v towards_o so_o obstinate_a a_o people_n if_o we_o read_v it_o in_o the_o time_n to_o come_v thou_o will_v not_o pardon_v they_o the_o sense_n will_v be_v the_o more_o easy_a yet_o notwithstanding_o the_o imprecation_n will_v always_o hold_v to_o wit_n pardon_v they_o not_o for_o we_o know_v that_o as_o oft_o as_o the_o prophet_n who_o be_v inflame_v with_o the_o zeal_n of_o god_n do_v wish_v that_o some_o judgement_n may_v come_v they_o threaten_v the_o just_a punishment_n which_o the_o wicked_a be_v to_o receive_v as_o be_v the_o instrument_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o no_o otherwise_o and_o it_o be_v no_o marvel_n if_o the_o prophet_n be_v offend_v with_o so_o many_o abominable_a crime_n be_v in_o this_o manner_n kindle_v with_o zeal_n that_o he_o appoint_v out_o his_o country_n to_o destruction_n because_o nothing_o be_v more_o precious_a unto_o he_o than_o the_o sacred_a honour_n of_o god_n but_o we_o must_v always_o understand_v that_o the_o remainder_n and_o remnant_n of_o the_o elect_n be_v to_o be_v except_v for_o the_o prophet_n speak_v not_o here_o of_o all_o one_o by_o one_o but_o of_o the_o body_n of_o this_o people_n which_o be_v almost_o rot_v in_o their_o vice_n so_o as_o there_o be_v no_o hope_n of_o health_n to_o be_v truth_n in_o power_n and_o in_o righteousness_n of_o the_o spirit_n for_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n from_o who_o both_o the_o beginning_n and_o end_n of_o the_o work_n of_o our_o salvation_n come_v work_v thus_o in_o us._n from_o these_o epithet_n than_o we_o must_v observe_v what_o the_o principal_a effect_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v the_o lord_n purge_v out_o our_o dross_n by_o his_o spirit_n from_o out_o of_o babylon_n that_o the_o manner_n of_o it_o shall_v be_v no_o less_o admirable_a then_o that_o by_o which_o the_o people_n be_v in_o time_n past_o deliver_v out_o of_o egypt_n not_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v accompany_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o their_o journey_n between_o babylon_n and_o judea_n with_o the_o cloud_n and_o the_o pillar_n of_o fire_n as_o in_o the_o wilderness_n but_o because_o he_o show_v testimony_n of_o his_o favour_n towards_o they_o by_o mean_v no_o way_n less_o excellent_a than_o they_o as_o if_o any_o shall_v say_v at_o this_o day_n the_o lord_n will_v faithful_a may_v learn_v to_o rest_v at_o this_o day_n upon_o the_o same_o power_n of_o god_n in_o the_o restauration_n of_o the_o church_n as_o the_o apostle_n have_v experience_n of_o in_o their_o time_n and_o withal_o that_o by_o this_o manner_n of_o speech_n the_o prophet_n mention_v a_o continual_a succession_n of_o blessing_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v god_n will_v not_o stretch_v forth_o his_o hand_n to_o deliver_v you_o for_o a_o moment_n only_o but_o even_o as_o he_o have_v always_o assist_v our_o father_n in_o the_o desert_n so_o after_o he_o have_v deliver_v you_o he_o will_v defend_v you_o unto_o the_o end_n that_o which_o he_o add_v upon_o all_o glory_n depend_v upon_o that_o which_o he_o say_v before_o to_o wit_n that_o the_o bud_n which_o shall_v again_o sprout_v forth_o shall_v be_v glorious_a it_o be_v as_o much_o then_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v upon_o those_o which_o shall_v bear_v the_o sign_n and_o mark_n of_o their_o deliverance_n it_o may_v be_v this_o of_o all_o the_o enemy_n of_o the_o church_n in_o general_n this_o be_v the_o most_o receive_a interpretation_n neither_o do_v i_o reject_v it_o provide_v that_o we_o therewithal_o comprehend_v the_o wile_n ambush_n and_o treason_n wherewith_o the_o church_n be_v assail_v and_o no_o doubt_n but_o that_o be_v here_o express_v which_o be_v contain_v in_o the_o second_o psalm_n to_o wit_n the_o tumult_n and_o conspiracy_n against_o christ_n and_o his_o church_n for_o not_o one_o but_o many_o nation_n rise_v up_o against_o she_o and_o yet_o it_o be_v very_o likely_a that_o the_o prophet_n here_o express_o join_v the_o domestic_a enemy_n and_o those_o from_o without_o who_o creep_v in_o to_o assail_v she_o in_o her_o own_o bosom_n as_o it_o be_v for_o it_o be_v say_v in_o thou_o against_o thou_o that_o be_v to_o say_v they_o shall_v set_v upon_o thou_o from_o within_o yea_o even_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o thou_o to_o be_v short_a his_o meaning_n be_v that_o the_o church_n shall_v never_o enjoy_v such_o abundance_n of_o peace_n but_o she_o must_v look_v for_o many_o adversary_n that_o will_v assail_v she_o object_n but_o how_o agree_v these_o thing_n together_o may_v some_o say_v for_o in_o the_o former_a verse_n he_o say_v she_o shall_v be_v far_o from_o oppression_n and_o from_o fear_n for_o it_o shall_v not_o come_v nigh_o she_o and_o now_o he_o show_v she_o shall_v have_v intestine_a conspiracy_n ans_fw-fr but_o the_o prophet_n have_v add_v this_o in_o very_o fit_a season_n lest_o the_o faithful_a shall_v promise_v unto_o themselves_o a_o secure_a rest_a their_o watch_n and_o never_o to_o promise_v themselves_o any_o truce_n but_o for_o our_o comfort_n the_o prophet_n add_v a_o promise_n namely_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v protect_v she_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o danger_n without_o god_n signify_v as_o much_o as_o in_o vain_a or_o without_o any_o good_a success_n why_o the_o plot_n of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v be_v all_o bring_v to_o nought_o and_o why_o for_o his_o meaning_n be_v that_o the_o plot_v of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v come_v to_o nought_o though_o they_o busy_v all_o their_o wit_n and_o do_v the_o worst_a they_o can_v they_o shall_v cast_v themselves_o headlong_o into_o a_o headless_a rage_n but_o the_o only_a hand_n of_o the_o lord_n shall_v give_v his_o people_n a_o happy_a evasion_n and_o issue_n now_o he_o allude_v to_o that_o which_o be_v say_v before_o namely_o that_o the_o chaldean_n shall_v come_v under_o the_o conduct_n of_o god_n to_o destroy_v the_o land_n of_o judeah_n the_o people_n be_v then_o destroy_v because_o god_n be_v their_o enemy_n but_o now_o the_o enemy_n come_v to_o assail_v the_o church_n without_o god_n that_o be_v to_o say_v without_o his_o favour_n they_o shall_v flee_v and_o be_v confound_v which_o he_o better_o express_v by_o and_o by_o after_o say_v he_o that_o shall_v gather_v himself_o in_o thou_o against_o thou_o shall_v fall_v that_o be_v whatsoever_o he_o have_v imagine_v against_o thou_o shall_v fall_v upon_o his_o own_o head_n yea_o though_o the_o whole_a world_n shall_v rise_v up_o against_o thou_o yet_o shall_v it_o crush_v and_o overwhelm_v itself_o by_o lord_n and_o here_o he_o show_v that_o they_o fight_v as_o it_o be_v under_o his_o colour_n and_o that_o under_o his_o conduct_n and_o authority_n they_o waste_v and_o destroy_v the_o church_n i_o answer_v ans_fw-fr we_o must_v consider_v the_o opposition_n namely_o that_o the_o lord_n have_v raise_v up_o the_o babylonian_n to_o scatter_v the_o church_n for_o we_o be_v to_o note_v the_o similitude_n of_o the_o deluge_n mention_v in_o the_o nine_o verse_n whereby_o he_o signify_v a_o utter_a destruction_n so_o as_o the_o church_n be_v then_o in_o a_o manner_n clean_o waste_v by_o the_o babylonian_n who_o he_o use_v for_o that_o service_n but_o he_o there_o protest_v to_o moderate_v his_o indignation_n so_o as_o he_o will_v never_o suffer_v the_o enemy_n to_o abolish_v his_o church_n again_o though_o for_o a_o time_n he_o give_v the_o same_o over_o to_o be_v chastise_v by_o their_o hand_n indeed_o that_o be_v the_o enemy_n drift_n for_o they_o employ_v the_o utmost_a of_o their_o power_n and_o force_n to_o bring_v the_o church_n to_o confusion_n and_o utter_a ruin_n but_o the_o lord_n repress_v their_o rage_n in_o regard_n they_o do_v it_o without_o he_o vers_n 15._o that_o be_v to_o say_v without_o his_o commandment_n some_o expound_v that_o the_o smith_n be_v create_v for_o his_o work_n that_o be_v to_o say_v to_o practice_v his_o own_o death_n and_o the_o destroyer_n to_o destroy_v himself_o but_o i_o think_v the_o first_o sense_n be_v more_o simple_a where_o the_o lord_n say_v that_o he_o creat_v the_o destroyer_n it_o be_v not_o only_o refer_v to_o their_o nature_n as_o they_o be_v bear_v man_n but_o to_o the_o act_n of_o destroy_v and_o yet_o we_o must_v not_o lay_v the_o blame_n upon_o god_n as_o if_o he_o be_v the_o author_n of_o the_o unjust_a cruelty_n which_o remain_v in_o man_n for_o god_n consent_v not_o with_o their_o wicked_a will_n but_o dispose_v of_o their_o endeavour_n by_o his_o secret_a providence_n and_o use_v they_o as_o the_o instrument_n of_o his_o wrath_n but_o we_o have_v handle_v this_o matter_n in_o another_o place_n verse_n 17._o but_o all_o the_o weapon_n that_o be_v make_v against_o thou_o shall_v not_o prosper_v and_o every_o tongue_n that_o shall_v rise_v against_o thou_o in_o judgement_n thou_o shall_v condemn_v this_o be_v the_o heritage_n of_o the_o lord_n servant_n and_o their_o righteousness_n god_n indeed_o permit_v they_o to_o work_v their_o will_n for_o the_o trial_n of_o the_o faithful_a but_o after_o patience_n have_v have_v her_o perfect_a work_n in_o they_o he_o strip_v the_o wicked_a of_o all_o the_o force_n and_o power_n in_o which_o they_o trust_v now_o have_v speak_v in_o general_a of_o the_o weapon_n and_o instrument_n of_o war_n wherewith_o the_o ungodly_a invade_v the_o church_n enemy_n the_o tongue_n a_o pestilent_a enemy_n he_o name_v the_o tongue_n express_o which_o be_v the_o most_o pestilent_a and_o deadly_a weapon_n of_o all_o james_n 3.8_o for_o the_o wicked_a content_n not_o themselves_o to_o rent_n and_o tear_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n by_o outrage_n and_o slander_n but_o they_o also_o labour_v as_o much_o as_o in_o they_o be_v to_o extinguish_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n and_o to_o alienate_v man_n mind_n from_o the_o love_n of_o it_o and_o this_o aught_o more_o to_o pierce_v and_o wound_v our_o heart_n then_o if_o we_o be_v to_o faith_n though_o they_o only_o be_v the_o upholder_n of_o idolatry_n and_o lie_n and_o yet_o their_o accusation_n be_v paint_v over_o with_o such_o colour_n that_o so_o they_o may_v make_v we_o the_o more_o odious_a among_o they_o who_o be_v ignorant_a of_o our_o just_a cause_n but_o admit_v they_o assail_v we_o with_o open_a violence_n by_o the_o smiting_n of_o the_o tongue_n jer._n 18.18_o or_o with_o any_o other_o weapon_n yet_o let_v we_o not_o doubt_v but_o we_o shall_v be_v more_o than_o conqueror_n as_o this_o prophecy_n witness_v for_o the_o victory_n be_v here_o promise_a us._n see_v therefore_o we_o may_v be_v bold_a to_o rely_v upon_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o let_v we_o buckle_v ourselves_o to_o the_o combat_n with_o a_o stout_a and_o invincible_a courage_n this_o be_v the_o
