enough_o to_o all_o those_o who_o judge_v of_o thing_n by_o clear_a idea_n that_o body_n have_v not_o in_o themselves_o the_o nature_n or_o principle_n of_o their_o motion_n as_o aristotle_n understand_v there_o can_v be_v no_o violent_a motion_n or_o such_o as_o be_v contrary_a to_o nature_n it_o be_v indifferent_a to_o all_o body_n whether_o they_o be_v move_v or_o not_o move_v on_o one_o side_n or_o move_v on_o the_o other_o but_o aristotle_n who_o judge_n of_o thing_n by_o the_o impression_n of_o his_o sense_n imagine_v that_o body_n which_o be_v always_o place_v by_o the_o law_n of_o the_o communication_n of_o motion_n in_o such_o or_o such_o a_o situation_n in_o respect_n to_o other_o be_v place_v there_o of_o themselves_o because_o they_o like_v it_o best_o and_o some_o other_o body_n which_o by_o its_o nature_n do_v not_o move_v circular_o it_o will_v have_v some_o other_o natural_a motion_n which_o can_v be_v for_o if_o natural_o it_o ascend_v it_o must_v by_o our_o sense_n it_o be_v true_a in_o many_o place_n of_o his_o work_n he_o endeavour_v to_o explain_v they_o by_o the_o quality_n of_o heat_n and_o cold_a humidity_n and_o dryness_n weight_n and_o lightness_n but_o this_o manner_n of_o explication_n be_v so_o impertinent_a and_o ridiculous_a that_o i_o can_v conceive_v how_o so_o many_o learned_a man_n shall_v be_v satisfy_v with_o it_o it_o be_v what_o i_o be_o go_v to_o prove_v aristotle_n in_o his_o book_n of_o the_o heaven_n pretend_v that_o the_o earth_n be_v the_o centre_n of_o the_o world_n and_o that_o all_o body_n which_o he_o please_v to_o call_v simple_a because_o he_o suppose_v they_o to_o move_v by_o their_o own_o nature_n must_v be_v move_v by_o simple_a motion_n he_o affirm_v that_o beside_o the_o circular_a motion_n be_v simple_a the_o one_o descend_v or_o from_o the_o circumference_n to_o the_o centre_n the_o other_o ascend_v or_o from_o the_o centre_n to_o the_o circumference_n that_o these_o simple_a motion_n agree_v with_o simple_a body_n consequent_o that_o the_o earth_n and_o fire_n be_v simple_a body_n one_o of_o which_o be_v absolute_o heavy_a and_o the_o other_o absolute_o light_a but_o because_o heaviness_n and_o lightness_n may_v meet_v in_o one_o body_n either_o absolute_o or_o in_o part_n he_o conclude_v that_o there_o be_v also_o two_o element_n or_o simple_a body_n one_o of_o which_o be_v heavy_a in_o part_n and_o the_o other_o light_n in_o part_n viz._n water_n and_o air._n this_o be_v the_o method_n he_o take_v to_o prove_v that_o there_o be_v four_o element_n and_o no_o more_o it_o be_v evident_a to_o such_o as_o examine_v man_n opinion_n by_o their_o own_o reason_n that_o all_o these_o proposition_n be_v false_a or_o at_o least_o they_o can_v never_o pass_v for_o clear_a and_o indisputable_a principle_n of_o which_o we_o have_v very_o clear_a and_o distinct_a idea_n and_o which_o may_v serve_v for_o the_o foundation_n of_o physics_n it_o be_v certain_a that_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o absurd_a than_o a_o essay_n to_o establish_v the_o number_n of_o element_n by_o imaginary_a quality_n of_o weight_n and_o lightness_n in_o say_v without_o any_o proof_n that_o there_o be_v some_o body_n which_o be_v heavy_a other_o light_a through_o a_o principle_n in_o their_o own_o nature_n for_o if_o we_o may_v speak_v without_o prove_v what_o we_o say_v we_o may_v affirm_v that_o all_o body_n be_v natural_o heavy_a and_o that_o all_o endeavour_n to_o approach_v to_o the_o centre_n of_o the_o world_n as_o the_o place_n of_o their_o rest_n and_o we_o may_v on_o the_o contrary_n maintain_v that_o all_o body_n be_v natural_o light_a and_o have_v a_o tendency_n to_o the_o heaven_n as_o the_o place_n of_o their_o great_a perfection_n for_o if_o we_o object_n to_o he_o who_o say_v all_o body_n be_v heavy_a that_o air_n and_o fire_n be_v light_n he_o can_v only_o answer_v that_o fire_n and_o air_n be_v not_o light_a but_o only_o less_o weighty_a than_o earth_n and_o water_n and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n they_o seem_v light_a it_o be_v so_o with_o these_o element_n as_o if_o a_o piece_n of_o wood_n which_o seem_v light_n in_o water_n not_o because_o it_o be_v light_a of_o itself_o since_o it_o fall_v down_o when_o it_o be_v in_o the_o air_n but_o because_o the_o water_n which_o be_v more_o heavy_a make_v it_o ascend_v and_o bear_v it_o up_o if_o on_o the_o contrary_a we_o shall_v object_v to_o one_o who_o will_v maintain_v that_o all_o body_n be_v natural_o light_a that_o earth_n and_o water_n be_v heavy_a he_o will_v likewise_o answer_v that_o these_o body_n seem_v heavy_a because_o they_o be_v not_o so_o light_a as_o other_o which_o surround_v they_o that_o wood_n for_o instance_n seem_v heavy_a in_o the_o air_n not_o because_o it_o be_v heavy_a since_o it_o swim_v when_o it_o be_v in_o the_o water_n but_o because_o it_o be_v not_o so_o light_a as_o air._n it_o be_v therefore_o ridiculous_a to_o suppose_v these_o principle_n indisputable_a that_o body_n be_v heavy_a or_o light_a in_o their_o own_o nature_n on_o the_o contrary_a it_o be_v plain_a that_o all_o body_n have_v not_o the_o power_n of_o motion_n in_o themselves_o and_o that_o it_o be_v indifferent_a to_o they_o whether_o they_o be_v move_v upward_o or_o downward_o east_n or_o west_n north_n or_o south_n or_o any_o other_o way_n we_o can_v conceive_v but_o if_o according_a to_o aristotle_n there_o be_v four_o element_n such_o as_o he_o wish_v they_o to_o be_v two_o natural_o heavy_a and_o two_o naturally_n light_n viz._n fire_n air_n earth_n and_o water_n what_o consequence_n can_v we_o draw_v from_o thence_o to_o discover_v the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o universe_n these_o four_o element_n be_v not_o such_o fire_n air_n water_n and_o earth_n as_o we_o see_v they_o be_v quite_o different_a we_o know_v they_o not_o by_o our_o sense_n and_o still_o less_o by_o reason_n because_o we_o have_v no_o distinct_a idea_n of_o they_o i_o mean_v we_o know_v all_o natural_a body_n be_v compose_v of_o they_o since_o aristotle_n have_v say_v it_o but_o the_o nature_n of_o these_o compound_a body_n be_v unknown_a to_o we_o and_o we_o natural_a law_n which_o be_v whole_o unknown_a to_o we_o it_o may_v be_v also_o that_o animate_v body_n be_v not_o form_v like_o other_o by_o a_o certain_a number_n of_o natural_a law_n for_o it_o
