take_v secret_a counsel_n either_o to_o surrender_v all_o into_o the_o assyrian_n hand_n or_o otherwise_o to_o comply_v with_o the_o assyrian_n that_o so_o the_o assyrian_n may_v spare_v they_o and_o will_v not_o trust_v in_o the_o lord_n their_o god_n for_o safety_n as_o for_o the_o connexion_n of_o these_o word_n with_o the_o former_a it_o be_v q._n d._n i_o have_v tell_v you_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v preserve_v jerusalem_n and_o destroy_v the_o assyrian_n yet_o will_v not_o the_o sinner_n in_o zion_n believe_v it_o but_o be_v afraid_a of_o the_o assyrian_n and_o say_v who_o among_o we_o shall_v dwell_v with_o the_o devour_a fire_n &c_n &c_n in_o zion_n i._n e._n in_o jerusalem_n a_o synecdoche_n of_o a_o part_n for_o the_o whole_a be_v afraid_a viz._n of_o the_o assyrian_n fearfulness_n have_v surprise_v the_o hypocrite_n by_o the_o hypocrite_n he_o mean_v those_o sinner_n which_o he_o speak_v of_o in_o the_o foregoing_a sentence_n who_o he_o call_v hypocrite_n because_o they_o do_v frequent_v the_o temple_n and_o serve_v god_n with_o their_o mouth_n but_o will_v not_o believe_v his_o word_n which_o he_o speak_v by_o isaiah_n in_o their_o heart_n nor_o trust_v in_o he_o see_v cap._n 29.13_o or_o he_o call_v they_o hypocrite_n because_o they_o dissemble_v by_o their_o countenance_n and_o carriage_n what_o they_o have_v in_o their_o mind_n and_o thought_n who_o among_o we_o supple_a say_v they_o who_o among_o we_o etc._n etc._n q._n d._n who_o even_o among_o we_o say_v they_o which_o dwell_v in_o jerusalem_n though_o a_o fence_a city_n who_o i._n e._n shall_v dwell_v safe_o they_o liken_v the_o assyrian_n to_o devour_a fire_n because_o as_o the_o devour_a fire_n consume_v all_o combustible_a matter_n which_o be_v near_o it_o so_o do_v the_o assyrian_n destroy_v all_o the_o neighbour_a people_n and_o all_o people_n which_o they_o approach_v to_o with_o their_o force_n which_o will_v not_o submit_v to_o they_o and_o make_v their_o peace_n with_o they_o 15._o he_o that_o walk_v righteous_o the_o prophet_n here_o answer_v the_o question_n which_o the_o sinner_n in_o zion_n make_v in_o the_o former_a verse_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v to_o those_o sinner_n you_o ask_v say_v who_o among_o we_o shall_v dwell_v with_o the_o devour_a fire_n who_o among_o we_o shall_v dwell_v with_o the_o eâ—erlasting_a burn_n as_o though_o it_o concern_v the_o preservation_n of_o jerusalem_n from_o the_o assyrian_n by_o sign_n and_o attribute_n contrary_a to_o those_o by_o which_o he_o describe_v those_o which_o will_v not_o believe_v this_o his_o prophecy_n and_o trust_v in_o god_n for_o delivery_n from_o the_o assyrian_n cap._n 29.20_o 21._o for_o they_o which_o will_v not_o believe_v his_o prophecy_n there_o do_v not_o only_o not_o believe_v what_o he_o say_v but_o do_v persecute_v he_o and_o seek_v to_o take_v away_o his_o life_n and_o take_v bribe_n some_o of_o they_o for_o that_o end_n contrary_a to_o what_o they_o do_v see_v the_o heaven_n have_v their_o light_n by_o the_o benefit_n of_o the_o sun_n and_o moon_n and_o star_n which_o be_v therein_o so_o that_o if_o these_o shall_v drop_v down_o or_o fall_v out_o of_o the_o heaven_n the_o heaven_n will_v be_v dark_a hence_o to_o signify_v that_o the_o heaven_n shall_v be_v dark_a at_o the_o time_n which_o he_o here_o speak_v of_o he_o say_v that_o all_o their_o which_o thou_o delight_v in_o among_o the_o smooth_a stone_n of_o the_o stream_n i._n e._n among_o the_o stone_n of_o the_o river_n which_o stone_n the_o water_n of_o the_o river_n by_o long_a wash_n be_v give_v for_o several_a inheritance_n to_o the_o several_a tribe_n and_o family_n of_o israel_n josh_n 13_o etc._n etc._n and_o god_n be_v call_v the_o portion_n or_o inheritance_n of_o the_o godly_a in_o allusion_n to_o such_o a_o heritage_n because_o the_o godly_a do_v as_o much_o trust_n and_o delight_n in_o god_n as_o rich_a man_n do_v in_o their_o inheritance_n and_o possession_n yea_o as_o a_o inheritance_n or_o possession_n make_v a_o man_n rich_a so_o do_v god_n enrich_v they_o that_o serve_v he_o and_o because_o the_o lord_n be_v thus_o call_v the_o portion_n or_o inheritance_n of_o the_o godly_a therefore_o be_v the_o idol_n here_o call_v the_o portion_n of_o the_o idolater_n because_o the_o idolater_n make_v they_o their_o god_n note_v again_o that_o idolater_n do_v not_o set_v up_o their_o idol_n and_o sacrifice_n to_o they_o in_o one_o only_a kind_n of_o place_n but_o in_o divers_a sometime_o they_o set_v they_o up_o in_o grove_n under_o the_o green_a tree_n thereof_o sometime_o in_o valley_n though_o dry_a sometime_o by_o river_n sometime_o in_o mountain_n sometime_o in_o their_o house_n sometime_o in_o the_o temple_n etc._n etc._n so_o that_o what_o be_v here_o speak_v from_o vers_fw-la 5._o to_o vers_n 9_o be_v not_o to_o be_v understand_v of_o one_o and_o the_o same_o idol_n set_v up_o in_o one_o and_o the_o same_o place_n but_o of_o several_a idol_n set_v up_o and_o worship_v in_o several_a place_n and_o thereby_o be_v signify_v the_o mad_a love_n which_o the_o jew_n have_v to_o idolatry_n see_v st._n jerom_n upon_o this_o place_n note_v here_o again_o that_o whereas_o he_o say_v among_o the_o smooth_a stone_n of_o the_o stream_n be_v thy_o portion_n it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v understand_v by_o these_o word_n that_o idolater_n set_v up_o their_o idol_n in_o the_o stream_n or_o in_o the_o river_n for_o certain_o they_o do_v not_o set_v they_o up_o in_o the_o river_n or_o in_o the_o stream_n but_o only_a that_o prophet_n say_v nigh_o to_o the_o river_n or_o stream_n or_o water_n be_v thy_o portion_n but_o among_o the_o smooth_a stone_n of_o the_o stream_n be_v thy_o portion_n ans_fw-fr he_o do_v it_o to_o show_v oblique_o the_o vanity_n of_o their_o idol_n and_o to_o signify_v that_o when_o their_o idol_n be_v set_v up_o among_o the_o stone_n of_o the_o stream_n like_o be_v set_v up_o among_o their_o like_a for_o their_o idol_n be_v but_o stone_n and_o therefore_o be_v well_o seat_v among_o stone_n if_o they_o shall_v say_v that_o though_o their_o idol_n be_v stone_n yet_o they_o be_v smooth_a polish_a stone_n and_o therefore_o better_a than_o the_o stone_n of_o the_o stream_n the_o prophet_n prevent_v they_o when_o he_o call_v the_o stone_n of_o the_o stream_n smooth_a stone_n for_o he_o say_v the_o stone_n of_o the_o stream_n have_v be_v smooth_v and_o polish_a with_o the_o long_a wash_n of_o the_o water_n and_o therefore_o as_o good_a as_o their_o idol_n in_o this_o also_o note_v once_o again_o that_o here_o he_o speak_v to_o jerusalem_n whereas_o he_o speak_v before_o to_o the_o jew_n for_o he_o change_v both_o the_o number_n and_o the_o gender_n and_o he_o speak_v to_o she_o as_o to_o a_o woman_n by_o a_o prosopopoeia_fw-la yet_o in_o she_o he_o set_v out_o the_o condition_n and_o idolatry_n of_o the_o jew_n themselves_o they_o they_o be_v thy_o lot_n i._o e._n these_o even_o these_o idol_n which_o be_v among_o the_o smooth_a stone_n of_o the_o stream_n be_v thy_o lot_n here_o be_v a_o relative_n put_v without_o a_o formal_a antecedent_n but_o yet_o the_o
