promise_n in_o the_o old_a psal_n 2.7_o ask_v of_o i_o and_o i_o will_v give_v thou_o the_o heathen_a for_o thy_o inheritance_n and_o yet_o you_o must_v not_o apprehend_v that_o he_o do_v so_o bestow_v they_o on_o the_o son_n that_o he_o do_v utter_o divest_v himself_o of_o all_o his_o interest_n and_o whole_o pass_v away_o his_o right_n in_o they_o no_o my_o belove_a the_o father_n give_v man_n to_o the_o son_n just_a as_o a_o great_a sheep-master_n give_v his_o sheep_n unto_o his_o shepherd_n to_o keep_v they_o and_o to_o look_v to_o they_o to_o save_v they_o and_o answer_v they_o as_o they_o be_v in_o one_o another_o this_o be_v a_o privilege_n to_o purpose_n and_o carry_v high_a and_o glorious_a thing_n in_o it_o such_o as_o we_o be_v not_o able_a to_o conceive_v and_o much_o son_n 1_o joh._n 1.3_o all_o of_o we_o be_v far_o from_o god_n and_o far_o from_o jesus_n christ_n by_o nature_n we_o dwell_v a_o great_a way_n from_o they_o in_o a_o strange_a country_n and_o so_o in_o they_o import_v yet_o more_o near_o and_o close_a communion_n indeed_o the_o near_a and_o the_o close_a and_o most_o intimate_a that_o can_v be_v it_o be_v much_o to_o be_v with_o god_n with_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n there_o must_v be_v heavenly_a communion_n if_o it_o be_v but_o so_o but_o to_o be_v in_o they_o as_o they_o be_v in_o one_o another_o this_o must_v needs_o be_v much_o more_o this_o be_v in_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n import_v special_a interest_n in_o god_n the_o great_a interest_n that_o can_v be_v when_o we_o express_v the_o interest_n that_o any_o man_n have_v in_o such_o or_o such_o a_o great_a man_n we_o use_v to_o say_v that_o he_o be_v in_o with_o he_o and_o true_o it_o be_v much_o to_o say_v that_o we_o be_v in_o with_o god_n the_o father_n and_o with_o jesus_n christ_n this_o be_v a_o very_a great_a matter_n it_o show_v that_o we_o have_v much_o of_o their_o regard_n and_o love_n that_o god_n and_o jesus_n christ_n and_o we_o be_v great_a friend_n that_o while_o all_o the_o world_n be_v out_o with_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n we_o be_v the_o only_a people_n that_o be_v in_o with_o they_o this_o i_o confess_v be_v very_o much_o but_o what_o be_v it_o then_o to_o say_v that_o we_o in_o they_o that_o god_n and_o jesus_n christ_n and_o we_o be_v in_o a_o sense_n all_o one_o that_o as_o the_o father_n be_v in_o christ_n and_o christ_n in_o he_o so_o we_o be_v one_o in_o both_o of_o they_o here_o be_v interest_n indeed_o such_o as_o be_v impossible_a to_o be_v express_v this_o be_v in_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n import_v great_a acquaintance_n with_o they_o both_o they_o that_o be_v much_o with_o one_o another_o be_v acquaint_v each_o with_o other_o but_o they_o that_o be_v in_o one_o another_o must_v be_v acquaint_v much_o more_o they_o know_v not_o that_o which_o be_v without_o only_o that_o which_o every_o one_o know_v but_o they_o know_v that_o which_o be_v within_o which_o be_v obscure_a and_o hide_v from_o other_o man_n they_o know_v god_n inward_o for_o they_o be_v in_o he_o they_o know_v the_o secret_n of_o his_o heart_n psal_n 25.14_o and_o the_o mystery_n of_o his_o will_n ephes_n 1.9_o and_o even_o as_o christ_n be_v say_v to_o be_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o father_n and_o so_o to_o be_v the_o only_a one_o that_o be_v acquaint_v with_o he_o full_o and_o for_o they_o be_v near_o enough_o to_o he_o they_o be_v in_o he_o so_o that_o they_o can_v distinguish_v god_n and_o christ_n from_o any_o other_o that_o come_v in_o his_o name_n or_o that_o pretend_v that_o he_o be_v a_o son_n for_o there_o be_v son_n who_o father_n will_v deny_v in_o every_o thing_n almost_o because_o they_o have_v deserve_v ill_o of_o they_o and_o so_o they_o bear_v but_o which_o they_o aim_v at_o it_o be_v true_a they_o must_v be_v son_n of_o thunder_n now_o and_o then_o as_o well_o as_o son_n of_o consolation_n they_o must_v preach_v the_o law_n sometime_o as_o not_o the_o glory_n they_o receive_v from_o god_n by_o that_o which_o they_o bring_v to_o god_n as_o christ_n do_v but_o yet_o the_o one_o be_v not_o to_o be_v attain_v without_o the_o other_o they_o that_o bring_v god_n no_o glory_n in_o the_o present_a world_n shall_v have_v no_o glory_n from_o he_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v the_o lord_n indeed_o will_v render_v glory_n to_o every_o man_n if_o they_o be_v not_o so_o at_o all_o it_o be_v apparent_a they_o be_v not_o predestinate_v by_o he_o and_o consequent_o they_o shall_v have_v no_o glory_n from_o he_o now_o be_v it_o so_o my_o brethren_n that_o whoever_o will_v be_v glorify_v with_o god_n use_v 1_o in_o heaven_n must_v glorify_v he_o first_o on_o earth_n this_o than_o may_v serve_v to_o show_v the_o vanity_n of_o their_o in_o any_o of_o their_o way_n nor_o to_o bring_v he_o any_o glory_n why_o my_o belove_a how_o can_v you_o think_v now_o to_o be_v glorify_v with_o he_o jesus_n christ_n his_o own_o son_n the_o darling_n of_o his_o own_o bosom_n can_v not_o have_v glory_n with_o he_o upon_o these_o term_n he_o do_v not_o once_o so_o much_o as_o look_v for_o it_o have_v he_o not_o glorify_v his_o father_n here_o in_o this_o world_n he_o will_v not_o have_v expect_v that_o he_o shall_v have_v glorify_v he_o with_o himself_o in_o heaven_n you_o see_v he_o seek_v it_o and_o desire_v it_o only_o upon_o this_o account_n and_o what_o now_o do_v you_o think_v to_o speed_v better_o with_o the_o father_n than_o jesus_n christ_n his_o own_o son_n do_v you_o imagine_v that_o you_o shall_v have_v glory_n the_o low_a world_n to_o save_v those_o who_o the_o father_n have_v bestow_v upon_o i_o all_o they_o and_o none_o but_o they_o i_o must_v be_v whole_o rule_v by_o he_o in_o this_o business_n by_o far_o for_o our_o sake_n it_o be_v true_a my_o brethren_n as_o he_o be_v a_o man_n he_o be_v whole_o to_o be_v order_v in_o matter_n of_o obedience_n by_o his_o father_n will_n so_o far_o as_o it_o we_o shall_v not_o take_v they_o as_o impose_v on_o we_o but_o we_o shall_v set_v our_o shoulder_n to_o they_o and_o cheerful_o submit_v ourselves_o to_o bear_v they_o but_o oh_o the_o tenderness_n of_o man_n to_o suffer_v any_o thing_n for_o christ_n if_o cross_n and_o affliction_n and_o persecution_n come_v upon_o they_o for_o his_o sake_n how_o do_v they_o murmur_v and_o repine_v ah_o my_o beloved_n remember_v the_o grace_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n who_o when_o he_o be_v equal_a to_o god_n he_o humble_v himself_o and_o become_v obedient_a etc._n etc._n and_o will_v you_o not_o suffer_v with_o he_o one_o hour_n what_o be_v your_o patience_n out_o so_o soon_o will_v it_o not_o hold_v for_o one_o hour_n be_v you_o so_o quick_o weary_a of_o so_o short_a a_o cross_n oh_o go_v about_o to_o frustrate_v christ_n and_o do_v as_o much_o as_o in_o we_o lie_v to_o disappoint_v he_o of_o his_o purpose_n oh_o let_v we_o labour_v that_o our_o knowledge_n of_o the_o name_n of_o god_n may_v be_v in_o some_o sort_n answerable_a to_o the_o revelation_n that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v make_v of_o it_o and_o that_o as_o we_o have_v since_o our_o saviour_n come_v in_o the_o flesh_n a_o full_a and_o a_o more_o complete_a discovery_n of_o it_o then_o they_o in_o former_a age_n have_v we_o may_v according_o exceed_v and_o go_v beyond_o they_o in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o it_o too_o we_o may_v know_v more_o of_o god_n especial_o of_o his_o love_n and_o of_o his_o mercy_n to_o his_o people_n in_o his_o son_n than_o they_o do_v or_o if_o it_o be_v not_o so_o to_o what_o end_n be_v the_o pain_n that_o christ_n have_v take_v to_o manifest_v his_o father_n name_n to_o we_o oh_o let_v we_o be_v ashamed_a to_o come_v behind_o the_o saint_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o this_o name_n who_o come_v behind_o we_o in_o the_o mean_n of_o this_o knowledge_n be_v it_o so_o that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v make_v a_o absolute_a etc._n etc._n then_o let_v we_o satisfy_v use_v 4_o ourselves_o with_o the_o discovery_n he_o have_v make_v and_o let_v we_o not_o attempt_v or_o undertake_v to_o know_v more_o of_o the_o father_n than_o he_o have_v make_v know_v to_o we_o indeed_o if_o jesus_n christ_n have_v fall_v short_a in_o this_o discovery_n it_o be_v but_o reason_n that_o we_o shall_v exceed_v and_o go_v beyond_o it_o if_o he_o have_v not_o tell_v we_o all_o that_o be_v fit_a for_o we_o to_o know_v it_o be_v a_o congruous_a thing_n that_o we_o shall_v strive_v to_o know_v more_o but_o see_v the_o discovery_n he_o have_v make_v be_v so_o complete_a and_o absolute_a in_o all_o respect_n so_o that_o there_o can_v be_v nothing_o add_v to_o it_o we_o have_v cause_n to_o rest_v in_o it_o and_o to_o content_v ourselves_o with_o so_o much_o knowledge_n of_o the_o father_n as_o he_o have_v reveal_v to_o we_o indeed_o there_o be_v a_o itch_n in_o nature_n to_o search_v into_o those_o thing_n especial_o concern_v god_n which_o be_v conceal_v and_o hide_v from_o we_o fain_o we_o will_v see_v his_o face_n when_o christ_n have_v manifest_v but_o his_o backpart_n to_o we_o we_o will_v know_v more_o of_o his_o nature_n of_o his_o counsel_n and_o decree_n the_o order_n of_o they_o the_o measure_n of_o they_o the_o object_n of_o they_o than_o he_o have_v think_v expedient_a to_o reveal_v to_o we_o we_o will_v approach_v too_o nigh_o to_o gaze_v we_o will_v intrude_v on_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o have_v not_o see_v for_o which_o we_o have_v no_o revelation_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v col._n 2.18_o and_o this_o my_o brethren_n be_v the_o evil_a genius_n of_o these_o very_a time_n man_n go_v beyond_o themselves_o in_o sift_v into_o thing_n concern_v god_n and_o beyond_o christ_n too_o i_o mean_v beyond_o any_o thing_n that_o he_o have_v manifest_v of_o his_o father_n to_o they_o indeed_o they_o tell_v we_o that_o christ_n reveal_v it_o to_o they_o by_o his_o spirit_n but_o that_o be_v not_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n which_o he_o will_v be_v easy_o entreat_v for_o those_o that_o have_v such_o near_a relation_n to_o he_o if_o they_o be_v only_a christ_n and_o not_o he_o this_o be_v enough_o to_o make_v he_o facile_a to_o the_o intercession_n that_o his_o own_o son_n make_v for_o they_o because_o they_o appertain_v to_o one_o that_o be_v so_o infinite_o dear_a to_o he_o but_o see_v they_o be_v christ_n and_o he_o too_o this_o carry_v all_o before_o it_o and_o this_o be_v that_o our_o saviour_n urge_v in_o my_o text_n that_o those_o for_o who_o he_o pray_v and_o intercede_v do_v aswell_o belong_v to_o his_o father_n they_o make_v they_o strong_a as_o oak_n to_o bear_v the_o burden_n that_o be_v lay_v upon_o they_o for_o if_o you_o mark_v it_o the_o apostle_n say_v not_o the_o power_n of_o god_n bear_v our_o affliction_n resist_v and_o overcome_v our_o temptation_n for_o we_o but_o we_o be_v strengthen_v by_o his_o glorious_a power_n to_o both_o these_o and_o god_n be_v able_a say_v the_o same_o apostle_n perish_v too_o 2_o cor._n 2_o 15._o though_o they_o spend_v their_o strength_n in_o vain_a with_o reference_n to_o the_o conversion_n of_o the_o people_n yet_o their_o judgement_n be_v with_o the_o lord_n and_o their_o work_n be_v with_o their_o god_n that_o be_v the_o recompense_n and_o reward_n of_o it_o isa_n 49.4_o and_o they_o have_v their_o recompense_n secundum_fw-la laborem_fw-la hence_o to_o hear_v it_o &_o attend_v upon_o it_o if_o you_o be_v yet_o without_o the_o covenant_n and_o have_v not_o any_o save_a grace_n in_o you_o this_o be_v the_o ready_a way_n to_o have_v it_o wrought_v in_o your_o soul_n it_o be_v the_o word_n by_o which_o god_n sanctifi_v in_o a_o way_n of_o inchoation_n and_o if_o the_o lord_n be_v please_v to_o concur_v with_o it_o you_o may_v be_v sanctify_v by_o this_o mean_n you_o be_v not_o able_a to_o convert_v yourselves_o my_o brethren_n you_o be_v not_o able_a to_o renew_v and_o sanctify_v yourselves_o but_o the_o bless_a word_n of_o god_n if_o he_o be_v please_v to_o add_v virtue_n to_o it_o may_v operate_v and_o bring_v about_o these_o great_a effect_n the_o law_n that_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n convert_v the_o soul_n the_o truth_n that_o be_v the_o word_n of_o truth_n so_o be_v the_o gospel_n call_v in_o opposition_n to_o the_o type_n and_o shadow_n of_o the_o law_n renew_v and_o sanctify_v the_o heart_n according_a to_o our_o saviour_n christ_n petition_n to_o his_o father_n here_o in_o the_o behalf_n of_o his_o disciple_n sanctify_v they_o with_o thy_o truth_n thy_o word_n be_v truth_n and_o therefore_o you_o that_o be_v stranger_n to_o the_o life_n of_o grace_n be_v you_o entreat_v and_o prevail_v withal_o to_o put_v yourselves_o under_o the_o powerful_a preach_n of_o the_o word_n and_o gospel_n of_o fruitful_a and_o have_v more_o increase_n of_o child_n than_o she_o that_o sometime_o have_v a_o husband_n oh_o let_v we_o magnify_v the_o grace_n of_o jesus_n christ_n let_v we_o adore_v the_o infiniteness_n of_o his_o mercy_n that_o he_o have_v cast_v we_o on_o these_o happy_a time_n wherein_o he_o take_v such_o care_n of_o poor_a gentile_n wherein_o he_o send_v to_o they_o and_o wherein_o he_o look_v after_o they_o as_o if_o they_o be_v some_o rich_a purchase_n ah_o my_o belove_a do_v we_o follow_v this_o mercy_n as_o far_o as_o we_o can_v reach_v it_o in_o our_o thought_n we_o shall_v in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n but_o faith_n as_o it_o justifi_v lay_v hold_v on_o christ_n and_o he_o only_o not_o know_v any_o other_o thing_n here_o but_o jesus_n christ_n and_o he_o crucify_v 2._o as_o for_o the_o second_o thing_n propound_v in_o the_o querie_n true_a it_o be_v that_o god_n the_o father_n be_v the_o object_n of_o our_o faith_n i_o mean_v the_o faith_n which_o justify_v but_o not_o the_o next_o and_o the_o immediate_a object_n of_o it_o christ_n must_v be_v first_o lay_v hold_v upon_o and_o god_n in_o christ_n such_o trust_n have_v we_o through_o christ_n in_o god_n say_v he_o be_v like_o a_o man_n go_v about_o to_o grasp_v a_o thing_n that_o be_v too_o big_a for_o he_o a_o large_a and_o smooth_a round-bodyed_n cup_n it_o slip_v away_o out_o of_o his_o finger_n whereas_o he_o may_v have_v hold_v it_o by_o the_o handle_n the_o faith_n which_o justify_v we_o my_o belove_a apprehend_v christ_n receive_v and_o lay_v hold_v on_o he_o and_o then_o as_o it_o be_v add_v in_o the_o fore-alledged_n scripture_n he_o that_o have_v the_o son_n have_v the_o father_n also_o 3._o as_o for_o the_o three_o particular_a propound_v whether_o salvation_n and_o eternal_a life_n be_v the_o object_n of_o our_o faith_n to_o say_v the_o truth_n salvation_n and_o eternal_a life_n be_v not_o so_o proper_o believe_v as_o hope_v for_o nor_o can_v it_o be_v so_o fit_o call_v
