matter_n to_o understande_v what_o manner_n of_o certainty_n the_o certainty_n of_o hope_n be_v here_o the_o poor_a soul_n sweet_a and_o go_v to_o work_v and_o fain_o and_o imagine_v many_o thing_n first_o faith_n the_o certainty_n of_o hope_n come_v of_o the_o certainty_n of_o faith_n they_o teach_v that_o all_o certainty_n of_o hope_n come_v of_o the_o certainty_n of_o faith_n and_o this_o in_o deed_n be_v not_o amiss_o for_o therefore_o we_o certain_o hope_v because_o by_o say_v we_o embrace_v the_o most_o certain_a promise_n of_o god_n but_o they_o go_v on_o far_o and_o say_v that_o by_o faith_n we_o general_o and_o absolute_o believe_v that_o all_o the_o elect_v and_o predestine_v shall_v be_v save_v but_o hope_n make_v we_o to_o have_v confidence_n that_o we_o be_v of_o the_o number_n of_o the_o elect_v as_o though_o hope_n have_v a_o particular_a knowledge_n under_o faith_n so_o that_o that_o which_o be_v general_o apprehend_v by_o faith_n be_v by_o hope_n apply_v unto_o every_o one_o of_o we_o a_o part_n wherefore_o they_o affirm_v that_o this_o certainty_n of_o hope_n be_v by_o supposition_n if_o we_o be_v of_o the_o number_n of_o the_o elect_a and_o if_o we_o continue_v unto_o the_o end_n and_o this_o kind_n of_o certainty_n they_o will_v have_v to_o consist_v of_o very_o likely_a conjecture_n and_o at_o the_o length_n they_o conclude_v that_o the_o certainty_n of_o hope_n be_v lesser_a than_o the_o certainty_n of_o faith_n but_o we_o contrariwise_o make_v the_o certainty_n of_o either_o of_o they_o alike_o for_o look_v how_o much_o faith_n we_o have_v so_o alike_o the_o certainty_n of_o hope_n and_o of_o faith_n be_v alike_o much_o hope_v also_o have_v we_o for_o faith_n retain_v not_o with_o itself_o any_o part_n of_o certainty_n which_o conclude_v that_o hope_n have_v as_o much_o certainty_n as_o have_v faith_n neither_o can_v that_o any_o thing_n help_v he_o which_o they_o cavil_v at_o the_o length_n namely_o yâ—_z subject_n certainty_n as_o touch_v the_o object_n &_o subject_n hope_v have_v certainty_n as_o touch_v the_o object_n but_o not_o as_o touch_v the_o subject_n for_o when_o say_v they_o it_o have_v a_o respect_n unto_o the_o clemency_n goodness_n grace_n and_o power_n of_o god_n there_o be_v no_o let_v in_o those_o thing_n but_o that_o every_o one_o may_v be_v save_v and_o therefore_o on_o that_o behalf_n they_o put_v a_o perfect_a certainty_n but_o if_o a_o man_n consider_v the_o subject_a the_o mind_n i_o say_v and_o will_v of_o he_o that_o hope_v for_o as_o much_o as_o this_o mind_n and_o will_n be_v flexible_a and_o waver_v and_o may_v be_v change_v it_o can_v never_o be_v certain_a or_o sure_o of_o salvation_n but_o these_o man_n seem_v to_o i_o to_o deal_v even_o as_o they_o do_v which_o in_o a_o siege_n defend_v their_o city_n diligent_o shut_v and_o defend_v all_o other_o gate_n but_o yet_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n leave_v one_o open_a through_o which_o the_o enemy_n enter_v in_o and_o waste_v and_o spoil_v all_o which_o do_v they_o perceive_v that_o they_o lose_v all_o their_o labour_n so_o these_o man_n take_v exceed_o great_a pain_n that_o there_o shall_v seem_v to_o be_v no_o uncertainty_n as_o touch_v the_o goodness_n power_n and_o clemency_n of_o god_n or_o merit_n of_o christ_n howbeit_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n they_o appoint_v our_o will_n to_o be_v so_o
